Title: lmof
Format: Cass
Label: Vitrine
Country: USA
Price: $8.00
"Warm swathes of keyboard and guitar. Household electronics. Patch chords yanked from live amps. Room event. Silences. It’s all pulled off with the casual inevitability of a dull joke, that is to say, Vitrine is nothing but proud to announce the label-debut of Japanese sound artist 010001111000. lmof leapfrogs back in time past the ‘00s and ‘90s to a lily pad of cracked sound shared by Dome, Richard H. Kirk’s Disposable Half Truths cs, and the more far-flung reaches of the Ylem canon. Perhaps one can hear Semool entirely separated from its umbilical chord of Black Sabbath and acid rock, left to find its way amidst the burn of cheap box amps and answering machines. There’s no orthodoxy to the sound, as it touches upon the most adventurous of post-punk and abstract Industrial, steering clear of the tropes and traps of genre. EVPs for a secular transcript. Volume variations and interference provide vibrant color to both alienation and unbridled creativity. Pastels on line paper. Computations which don’t add up. 010001111000 closes the circle begun by Safe House on VT03, but then erases it from the page. An exciting new voice in uncommon sound. A mind forever voyaging to the social debris beyond climate.  “More sound from Vitrine.” Limited to 100 copies." - Vitrine.

Title: Separate Ways
Format: 7"
Label: Domestica
Country: Spain
Price: $14.00
"Edition of 240 numbered copies. Includes download code of 2-track album.  "1/2" is the moniker of Sol Ist - who, along with his long-time friend and collaborator Robi, once fronted the experimental duo Narrow. Prior to this, Sol Ist was recording shortly under the name of "Mekanismo Va Morir", which coalesced into a duo that became Narrow. In their early period of 1997-98, Robi and Sol Ist started a tiny DIY imprint they called Aside Thorns, in order to present their, then-still undefined-by-name body of work. At the time, Robi was still experimenting with other friends of his, under the simple name KRD - the latter was largely infatuated by the work of Current 93, Annabelles Garden, Death In June and the like (Sol Ist included some of KRDs rough sketches on Aside Thorns very first compilation cassette - "Unexploded Tickets"). Earlier last year, Jordi Serrano of Domestica contacted 1/2, expressing interest in releasing some of his music. The initial idea was to release 1/2s second mini-album "Analogue Cuts In Digital Ways", but during a period of scheduling this release, the final choice became the EP "Separate Ways", originally released in 2011, now to see the light of day as a 7" single, and also marking the first contemporary artists debut on Domestica Records label." - Domestica.

Title: Piscean Tragedies
Format: Double Lathe Cut 8"
Label: Crawlspace Artist Series
Country: New Zealand
Price: $18.00
"Bill Wood & Jules Desmond follow up their acclaimed single on Fusetron, with their first Crawlspace Artist Series release, a double! Great art, great music, which reminds me of the cold emotive drift of Thela, but what do I know ? Heres other viewpoint on what to expect : " String driven shiver floating in a lake of orchestral sheen. Hyper-kinetic drones fashioned from the slow moving gracefulness of supersonic spacejunk. Aimless grandeur."" - Crawlspace.

Title: Tarakohe/Ritual Of Gravity
Format: 7"
Label: Fusetron
Country: USA
Price: $5.00
"If youve ever heard of New Zealand musician Bill Wood, chances are that it was related to his work with Campbell Kneales Birchville Cat Motel. But Bill has his own line of space rock/guitar drone/massive atmopsherics as well, and he records them as 1/3 Octave Band. Woods music is new to my ears but its highly impressive. He takes a very maxist approach to drones, filling the pulses of his endless frontiers with shifting arrays of instrumental intrigue and ominously pulsing lights. A great thing, and on that thick Czech vinyl that weighs about a pound. What more could you want?" - Byron Coley, WIRE. Edition of 250.

Title: The System Likes You and Wants to be Your Friend
Format: CDR
Label: Pseudoarcana
Country: New Zealand
Price: $13.00
"At long last P.A gets to release an album by one of my very favourite local bands. Bill Wood and friends explore similar territory to Surface of the Earth with results that may be even more sublime. 3 epic tracks that further develop the 1/3 Octave sound." - Pseudoarcana.

Artist: 100 FANZINES/10 YEARS OF BRITISH PUNK 1976-1985
Title: 100 Fanzines/10 Years of British Punk 1976-1985
Format: Book
Label: PPP Editions
Country: USA
Price: $36.00
"4to.; black-and-white and color illustrations on newsprint; printed wrappers; printed ecru dust jacket. First edition; 500 copies, the entire edition. This publication reproduces 100 British punk fanzines culled from the Mott Collection and features two essays “Glue Was All Over My Fingers” by Toby Mott and “We Are the Writing on the Wall” by Victor Brand. The zine is mass-produced grafitti, a love letter to an anonymous public, a black-and-white shout into the wilderness. As a product, it goes hand-in-hand so perfectly with the autochthonous priorities of the punk movement that it seems in retrospect almost inevitable. The youth of the United Kingdom—under- and unemployed, adrift and disillusioned in the aftermath of ‘60s utopianism—were the writing on the wall in the mid-1970s. The kids of punk werent all right: Punk was the return of the repressed. Even if they were only talking to themselves, they could express themselves without censorship through music and grainy, handwritten pamphlets." - PPP Editions.

Artist: 100 FLOWERS
Title: s/t
Format: LP
Label: Superior Viaduct
Country: USA
Price: $16.00
"100 FLOWERS (previously known as THE URINALS) were a power trio whose sole 1983 album is an enduring document of the Southern California underground. Based in crime-ridden 80s Los Angeles against the backdrop of juvenile hardcore and vapid hard rock, 100 Flowers crafted a sound that rests between the inspired bursts of The Minutemen and the pastoral jangle of the Dream Syndicate with similarities to the equally oblique Monitor and The Gun Club (who even included a Urinals cover in their set). The trio wielded a gripping visual aesthetic and hyper-literate lyrical content that reflected their art-school backgrounds, while a ferocity and frustration borne out of their bleak urban environment permeates their songs. Strains of UK post-punk can be heard on "All Sexed Up" and skittish tension on "Presence of Mind." A far cry from the beach punk and surf rock of their contemporaries, album closer "Californias Falling into the Ocean" contains all of their signature qualities: off-kilter delivery, subversive sentiments and an irrefutable pop sensibility that reflects their immersion in LAs burgeoning Paisley Underground scene. The band splintered shortly after the release of this album, but time has only intensified the urgency of 100 Flowers music. First-time reissue of underground Los Angeles classic originally released in 1983. Includes digital download card." - Superior Viaduct.

Artist: 100$ BAND/SPIT
Title: Split
Format: Lathe Cut 10"
Label: 100$ Band/Spit
Country: New Zealand
Price: $25.00
"NEW in the el nuevo dunedin series of split 10" lathe records... the best $100 Band gig I saw was at an art college barbeque, where they performed an utterly intense half-hour drone with violin and cello to the fore, followed by almost an hour of Alastair Galbraith and former Snares singer Maxine Funkes songs in a very pop style. The band at it was possibly doesnt exist now, due to drummer Mike Dooley (ex of the Enemy/Toy Love and the Snares)s preference for the songs, but this disc remains to show what they were like at their best. Alastairs been working on long-form drones for a while now, ala his Cd Radiant, and the $100 Band gave them a rough, energetic going-over, falling into vast holes of wordless, timeless beauty. the artist known as Spit, Ryan Cockburn, doesnt take a whizz-bang approach to turntablism, and the pieces on this record are definately at the quieter end of his scale. Live, however, he develops immense journeys that roil and tear time, with an unpredictable edge that he creates via an unusual method - he cuts his records in half and glues them back together, in odd combinations; and since he now has hundreds of them he has little to no idea how theyll sound or react to the welded needles on his antique record players. The result is always something odd and his side of this record are like complete beginnings of the longer pieces which hopefully will see wider release than his cdr series."

Artist: 1115
Title: Post Europe
Format: LP
Label: Alien Transistor
Country: Germany
Price: $19.00
Printed inner sleeve. Includes download code. "... A listeners first impression may suggest the enchanted soundscape of a fatigued electronic soloist, but 1115 are a duo: Fehler Kuti and Grey provide us with a sonic vision that can only emerge from the synthesis of two radical minds. Think of the meetings of Suicide, Yello, or The KLF: A pop big bang of conceptual art and bodily music. The fusion of Fehlers onomatopoeic vocal tracks and Greys bass/organ/808-drum machine elements create a unique and original work; an Afrofuturistic musique concrete, which could not be heavier in its psychedelic might. Totally hypnotised, we hear old instruments, lost along an ocean passage. . . . The plot of this supposed instrumental music is, in short, a story of invisibility -- and of how this invisibility, experienced as negation and extinction, is given a visually audible expression through the invention of a new language. . . . If we follow 1115 down their Underground Railroad, a mythology that becomes more vivid with each station emerges, and takes on a cartographic form. A spatial sculpture made of music! Fehler Kuti performs the role of the Invisible Stranger -- without any use of language in the semantic sense -- not in a dissimilar way to Caetano Veloso on Araçá Azul or Miles Davis, though different and novel. Once you understand that Miles Davis did nothing else but tell stories of racism and alienation throughout his career, will you then understand Post-Europe. Post-Europe is therefore not only music, just as an opera is not only music. Drawn into the deep, through subtext and shiftwork, 1115 dive through a stream of electronic music alongside colleagues like Arca and Dean Blunt, Drexicya and Dopplereffekt, as well as Juan Atkins and Moritz von Oswald, Rahsaan Roland Kirk and Sun Ra. But the voices of the libretto belong to the non-musicians and non-artists, the erased and forgotten. The invisibles. If we listen to the phonograph patiently while playing this music, unheard sounds surface. In time, voices tear off, and become distinct. They say what they need to say. They let others speak. And suddenly there is a space... that unfolds, that speaks. Deep inside it, an ancient lament emerges, wrapped within the invisible words: What did I do to be so black and blue? ..." -Pico Be.

Artist: 12 MINUTES AT THE HOT CLUB MURPHY
Title: s/t
Format: 7"
Label: Messthetics
Country: USA
Price: $7.00
"a limited edition of 457 reissue of a Rosetta Stone rarity from 1982: adventurous, subtly-hued pop art from an all-star line-up of post-Homosexuals / This Heat / Rock in Opposition squat savants. The full story is more complicated – and exponentially richer (as is the music!), but heres a short version, in the words of Rob Storey, the one constant in 30-plus years of Murphy variations - Federation Murphy, Orchestre Murphy, The Murphy Love Experience, Murphy Patrol, Murphy Working Stiffs, Laboratoires Murphy, etc.: (musicians performing on the EP appear in boldface):

"We had made a start as the Good For Nothings in about 77/78 and played sort of punk rock music with a line-up of Catherine OSullivan, Bing Selfish, Rodrigo Lodwick, Seamus Luttman-Johnson, and Robert Storey. We soon got tired of the straitjacket of the punk sound and started trying other things, fake jazz, more theatrical elements, improvisation and performance deconstruction – which resulted in some extremely antagonistic audience reactions... "After making the first single Fed Up Skank / Slipping Past On The Inside, Bing was a semi-detached member of the Murphies anyway, and went on to make Selfish Works. Chris Gray, Jim Whelton, Ted Barrow (who had all been associated with the Homosexuals), Lepke Buchwalter, David Doyle and Joe Torres (who were Milk from Cheltenham), Janey Haggar (Nancy Sesay), and Mick Hobbs (The Work), amongst others, became part of the pool of people who would do gigs, tours or recording sessions. It was a loose arrangement of players by the time we made 12 minutes at the Hot Club Murphy."

In the meantime, Robs label Noise Method had at least six cassette releases in addition to the Murphy Federation single [NM1], the Hot Club Murphy 12" [NM6, 1982] and Selfish Works [NM8, though officially on El Frenzy, 1982], and thered also been several junkets to Barcelona that resulted in the Domestic Sampler – UMYU compilation [1981] and Bings Selfish Works (of whom and of which much more anon!). In addition to the Hot Club tracks that Chris Gray recorded at Surrey Sound, others were taped at This Heats legendary Cold Storage studio in Brixton with Pete Bullen. Mick Hobbs left The Work (to be replaced by Jim Welton/Amos) and went on to Officer!; Catherine OSullivan went on to Sally Patience (who were named for a Murphies song)… Anyway, Messthetics and Stewart Andersons [Boyracer+++] Milk and Alcohol label have reissued 12 Minutes at the Hot Club Murphy in its entirety as a 7" EP, limited to 457 numbered copies. The silkscreened sleeve reproduces the original front artwork (admitting there were many variations with different inks and cover stocks, and as the original screens and LetraSetting for the 12" wore out and were patched or replaced "on the fly")… There has never been musician credits until now. YouTube videos are online for Hiding in the Forest and The Encampment showing the originals and representative artwork from the 7" EPs."- Messthetics.

Title: Trembling Air
Format: LP
Label: Other People
Country: USA
Price: $23.00
"Trembling Air, an eclectic collection of intricate, improvisatory tone poems. As pure improvisers, Bálint Szabó and Márton Kristóf have constructed a substantial body of work, including film scores, studio recordings, and a significant archive of 12z [sessionz] -- weekly improvised jams with a shifting cast of collaborators. These [sessionz] were compiled into a self-released podcast, released following their 2013 self-titled debut on Hungarian label Farbwechsel. Not to mention their live work, which is the foundation of 12zs craft and artistry. With Szabó on guitar, Kristóf on electronics, and guest member Áron Porteleki often joining on drums, they fluctuate between jagged rhythmic passages, floating moments of harmonic tension, and any other form that emerges, always chiseling structure from the chaos. Trembling Air marks another direction in 12zs work, as their first entirely electronic recording. The album was sparked by György Pálfis 2014 film Free Fall, for which it was recorded as a potential score, but stands strong independently, conjuring its own strange images." - Other People.

Title: Complete Discography
Format: CD
Label: Sacred Bones
Country: USA
Price: $15.00
"Earlier this year Sacred Bones released the singles collection from 13th Chime which collected the scant few recordings released during their brief lifetime as well as a handful of heretofore unheard demos and alternate recordings. With their blend of dark driving aggression and sparse arrangements for a brief moment in time the band seemed poised to breakout of the day to day of slogging it out in clubs and onto the international radar but through a series of mishaps ended up a footnote and dissolving into obscurity. In the liner notes which told of the 13th Chimes formation and brief ascent as deathrock contenders it was noted that there was a number of recordings that were intended for a full length release and were subsequently shelved at the 11th hour due to record company politics. Sacred Bones Records is now proud to bring to light the long lost LP. After languishing in the vaults for several decades the 13th Chime full length finally sees the light of day. The CD version collects both the full length and singles collection plus one bonus song called "Pigs" on one disc and includes detailed liner notes that chart the bands rise and fall." - Sacred Bones.

"Sacred Bones is proud to announce the release of the 13th Chime singles collection. Long sought after by collectors, the UK band only released a scant three singles in their time together before dissolving into obscurity. Their sounda merging of deathrocks dark driving aggression and post-punks sparse arrangementsreflected the realities of life in a small market town in the desolate political landscape of early 80s Britain. In cooperation with the band members Sacred Bones has collected 13th Chimes three singles plus rare never before heard demo recordings of Tinker Man,Radio Man, and 13th Victim. Detailed liner notes by Clive OGrady tell the entire storyfrom schoolmates in the Suffolk town of Haverhill to tours with The Enid, Theater of Hate, support slots with The Adicts and Dead Kennedys, and an inevitable breakup, making friends and fans out of John Peel and The Groundhogs Tony McPhee along the way. Title: Into the Future
Format: LP
Label: Mannequin
Country: Germany
Price: $21.00
“Italian new wave masterpiece from 1984. Extremely rare dark minimal synth LP, released in 1984 through No Name Records in Italy and now reissued by Mannequin Records for the 30th anniversary. One of the crown jewels of the minimal synth scene. On a cold autumn evening in Milan in 1981, Nino La Loggia met Giacomo Spazio for the first time. The two had the same passion for music: Kraftwerk, Joy Division, D.A.F. and the whole new scene of proto-electronic wave. Together they decided to start the musical project called 2 + 2 = 5, a tribute to Orwellian dystopia. Shortly after, Cha Cha Hagiwara joined the band. Already a keyboard player in Jeunesse dIvoire, she enriched the bands raw sound with sonority and resonance which we can now define as analog. After several gigs around Milan, Turin and Switzerland, in 1983, the trio entered the studio to record their first LP titled Into the Future, which is widely considered one of the most important Italian new wave albums. Expect classic cold wave and minimal electronic Italian sounds in the vein of Cocteau Twins, A Certain Ratio, Joy Division. The role of 2+2=5 was crucial in the development of the Italian alternative music scene. Giacomo Spazio in 1983 established with Ermanno Gomma Guarnieri UT distribution, the first Italian company that distributed counter-culture punk material (tapes, records and fanzines). Then, in 1986, he was among the founders of the first Italian no copyright & electronic counter-culture magazine called Decoder. In 1987 he founded the independent music magazine Vinile and the related independent label Vox Pop, that later became one of the most famous and important indie-rock Italian labels. Nino La Loggia on his side contributed to agitating the Italian underground music scene, as DJ and producer and as co-owner of one of the most important record shops in Milan called Ice Age, now sadly closed.” - Mannequin.

It would be years and many cold dishes of revenge before this unique version of socialization would blossom into the music that both are rumored for today. They still dont lie, but the debut 200 Years LP sounds like theyre figuring out a way to build around the smoking holes, instead of the rough old craniometry count down. If destruction is a type of construction, then you can say we here at DCHQ knew they had it in em the whole time! Like magnets, or Voltron, apart these two have wreacked havoc with electricity and enemies, but when joined create a force of absolute cohesion and power. Quiet-like, though! 200 Years is to a listening experience like seeing is through a dirty window-you cant see anything clear out there but the light. And thats more than you got in the room. Sonically, its basically Ben and Elisa with guitars, Elisas voice, Bens guitar alone, the breath of a harmonium, the faintest strains of piano. Theres more playing in the mix than just that, but its like that ol dirty window-the sounds are more not there than they are there." -Drag City.

“In lieu of flowers, please send beer.” The foie gras of Canterbury prog left uneaten and now home to iridescent maggots. 21st Century Band offers new excursions into redundancy and tonal dismay. Pathetic junk metal consumes itself amidst the banal landscape of public parks and fish hatcheries. The fever dream of Changez Les Blockers is reimagined as outtakes from National Healths D.S. Al Coda. Tape collage distracts event from inception. An open air festival is caught from the other side of a canal. All were given is cheap percussion, feedback and bland field recordings. The leftovers of Italian PE are still in the fridge - Public Assault 2 & a little song of Rochester. Tupperware. Deference is paid to the waste basket in the kitchen and the creak of a screen door. We enter the endless backyard & its bad post-punk with an 8.6% ALC. content. Music should be left to the professionals, but wheres the fun in that? Its almost as easy to live as it is to die. Mastered by Sean McCann.”

"Kevin Winter, AKA 2673, is a New Jersey sound artist whos amassed a substantial and very impressive discography in a short amount of time -- culminating in his phenomenal recent splits with experimental music icons Kevin Drumm and Jessica Rylan. His side here is a cold, willowy stream of high-pitched speaker sizzle with ear-piercingly clear oscillator tones cutting through. The combination of icy purity and textural noise, as usual with 2673s music, is perfectly balanced. Not particularly harsh, but too stark to be calming, this track is unsettling in the best possible way. Cyber Blast Records owner Habeeb infuses his own ceremonial music with a different slant. The warm ambient drones and deep throbbing basses of his track explore the same stark Antarctic icescape as 2673, but with a much smoother, less textured sound that is more subliminal. If you listen very carefully, you can hear the monsters lurking beneath the smooth surface. Dark ambient at its minimalist best. LIMITED TO 32 COPIES." - Fargone.

Recorded live to 1/2" tape on a monday evening in early 93 by William a young fan then doing a recording engineers course who offered 3 toed sloth a free session at his TAFE college studio. The intended 7" never happened & the reels laid dormant in the bottom of a wardrobe for the next 17 years until Unwucht heard a rough mix taken from an old cassette tape & enthusiastically proposed releasing it. "First reissue of this ultra-obscure pre-no-wave LP, originally released in Japan, 1975." - FE. "3/3 are Reck (guitar, vocals), Higo Hiroshi (bass) and Chiko Hige (drums). The name was inspired by a Japanese comic (4/4). In February 1975, 3/3 (Sanbun No San) released this album in a tiny pressing of 15 copies only to get a record deal. The cover was homemade and the recording sounds live but without audience. The music is ultra heavy guitar-dominated psychedelic rock like a mixture of Blue Cheer / Randy Holden/MC5 and early punk/new wave bands. The sound quality is mediocre but the music is a blaster. 3/3 has never released another recording. Both Reck and Hige then moved to New York where they stayed for over a year and played with James Chance & the Contortions, Lydia Lunch (Teenage Jesus & The Jerks) and others (No New York movement). They returned to Japan in 1978 to start a new group which became very famous: Friction. In 1979 Friction appeared on a compilation and in 1980 they recorded their first album. Friction released more than 10 albums in Japan. Friction has certainly had a heavy influence on the late 1970s Japanese punk and new wave scene. Reck is again active on the Tokyo scene and has teamed up with Haino Keiji and hardcore drummer Pill, with whom he performs under the name Head Rush. This album of 3/3 is the rarest underground album ever released in Japan." - Shadoks.

Title: Speak to Me
Format: LP
Label: Black Truffle
Country: Australia
Price: $21.00
"Black Truffle present Speak To Me, the sixth full-length release from 3/4HadBeenEliminated, the Italian trio of Stefano Pilia, Claudio Rocchetti and Valerio Tricoli. Based on source material recorded in Bologna and Berlin over the course of several years, the album is made up of two side-long pieces meticulously constructed in post-production by Tricoli in his singularly dense and unpredictable style. Although their live performances have always been entirely improvised, in their recorded work the group focuses on using improvised recordings as source material for compositions built up through layering, editing and analog manipulation, extending the practices of Teo Macero, Faust and This Heat. Melancholic instrumental ruminations sit alongside cracked electronics, concrete sounds and Tricolis whispered vocals, drawn together into dense assemblages animated by gradual transformations and sudden jump cuts. Beginning from the abstractions of their self-titled debut release in 2004, the group embarked on a trajectory that saw them move toward near-song structures, Tricolis voice becoming a dominant element amid an increasingly dense and layered production style. On Speak To Me, however, the listener feels confronted by the ghost of music, sonic memories echoing across a psychedelic expanse. Evacuated of any clear structure, the music becomes a reverb-saturated morass, from which crystalline details momentarily emerge: shimmering echoed guitar, bowed double bass, tactile hand percussion, skittering electronics. Suffused with a darkly pensive atmosphere, Speak To Me is an elegant summation of the distinctive blend of electroacoustic techniques, instrumental improvisation and contemporary psychedelia pioneered by 3/4HadBeenEliminated over the last decade. LP design by Stephen OMalley with striking artwork by Stefano Pilia. Vinyl cut by Rashad Becker at Dubplates & Mastering, Berlin."

Hair by 31 Flavors is the counterpart to Light My Fire by The Firebirds. Along with demented raw garage covers of "Hair" and "Aquarius," it contains some of the heaviest, fuzzed-out exploitation sounds ever committed to vinyl. Title: Pain It Dark
Format: CD
Label: Bureau B
Country: Germany
Price: $18.00
"The Bureau B label reissues the first album by Hannover, Germany duo 39 Clocks, originally released in 1981 by No Fun Records. Many a wild tale has enriched the history of 39 Clocks. For example, the time they went on stage with vacuum cleaners and circular saws instead of guitars, the LSD inside their heads having erased all memory of how to play their songs. Or the time when they were expelled from the Documenta, because Joseph Beuys was aggravated by their music. Then there was the angry member of the audience who attacked one of the band members with a knife on stage. Not forgetting the concert in a cavernous aircraft hangar where the amps were turned up so loud that by the end of the show, not a single spectator was left. Sounds music magazine duly confirmed it the "Concert of the Month." The great thing is that every one of these stories is true. Christian Henjes (aka C.H. 39) and Jürgen Gleue (aka J.G. 39) as 39 Clocks were one of the most provocative bands Germany has ever produced; pop scholar Diedrich Diederichsen described them as the best German band of the 80s. The Clocks took shape in 1979, turning their backs on punk and inventing "Psycho Beat," the self-styled counterpoint to the burgeoning German new wave scene, the NDW. Their music can be seen as a futuristic, definitively urban, German form of U.S. 60s garage punk, with a referential nod to New Yorks Suicide and The Velvet Underground -- sparse and gritty garage chord progressions, hypnotic rhythms (invariably emanating from the beatbox) and deadpan English lyrics delivered with the heaviest of German accents. The 39 Clocks pushed back the borders of experimentation with their barely-tolerable live improvisation and atonal meanderings, lower than lo-fi, with a tinny beatbox that tested the resilience of their listeners to the full. Despite some shaky success, geographical and mental shifts brought about their eventual split in 1983. This CD reissue contains a previously-unreleased bonus track and a 12-page booklet illustrated with a wealth of rare photos featuring liner notes by ZickZack record label founder Alfred Hilsberg." -Bureau B

Format: LP
Label: Luxury Products
Country: USA
Price: $24.00
"Germanys self-crowned "Psycho Beat" combo, 39 CLOCKS were a low-lit shadow unit operating in a sparsely inhabited contrarian counter-culture all their own. Evolving from a confrontational art-punk experiment, known for playing vacuum cleaners and saws and terrifying audiences with brute volume, CHRISTIAN HENJES (C.H. 39) and JURGEN GLEUE (J.G. 39) put 11 tracks to tape in 1981 for what would become their debut album. Oozing out shock waves of bad acid trips, decayed guitar, and the dull stomp of a tiny beatbox, Pain It Dark is American garage and proto-punk filtered through some shadow-filled masterpiece of German expressionism. The pairs most obvious touchstones are Suicides crusted synths and the ragged stumble of Loaded-era Velvets-if fed through a particularly British lens of Swell Maps/basement-DIY whack-job-ism. Amongst the outsourcing, one can nevertheless detect a native Kraut heritage peeking through in the robotic beats and icy demeanor of "Twisted & Shouts"-as Dada and nihilistic an oldies cover as can be imagined. Following De Stijls Zoned retrospective and a Bureau B issue of Pain It Dark on CD, this reissue marks the first availability of 39 Clocks music on vinyl in over 25 years. Limited edition of 1,000 copies packaged with two giant posters with photos and a reproduction of OG promo zine." - Luxury Products.

"The first public appearance pairing Christian Henjes (then Zero Jack) and Juergen Gleue (then Genius Nr.17) was in 1976, at the Dada Nova (a space later occupied by Otto Müehls AAO commune) in midtown Hannover, Germany. Known for pranksterism and the destruction of the clubs in which they would perform, friction would follow the band everywhere. In 1979 they were thrown out of a show in Kassel at the Documenta (their sounds had disturbed Joseph Beuys). They created an outrage (they wrote a tune with the title Art Minus Idiots) at the Filmtage Hannover with their avant garde Super 8 movies under the guise of director Zachius Lipschitz. Rumour claims that at a Hannnover show at the Cafe Glocksee, they played the vacuum cleaner and a circular saw instead of guitars. Inspired, then (clearly), by protest in the broadest and most romantic sense (they wrote a tune with the title Radical Student Mob In Satin Boots) theirs was a sound attuned to classic American punk/Nuggets. This collection was put together with the non-completest in mind (originals of some of these records are as rare as Italian underwear), intending to display the general 39 Clocks vibe, but also some of their more curious wrinkles. And as Diedrich Diedrichsen wrote the first review of the band, we at DeStijl are very pleased with his liner notes." - DeStijl

Heres what we wrote in 2002 about the 49 AMERICANS reissues on the Japanese label, Saidera. "Wonder", issued by Saidera, was the 1st LP, "E Pluribus Unum", plus a handful of bonus tracks:

"Lovingly assembled and beautifully produced career-spanning recordings by this late 70s/early 80s UK DIY super group. The main instigator behind the Americans was Andrew Giblet Brenner who assembled a loose, disparate group of musical/non-musical practitioners as "an experiment in equality and democracy". This "democracy" included Nag, Bendle and Else Watt of Door And The Window, David Toop, Steve Beresford and Max Eastley (coming out of the anything goes improv scene), Viv Albertine of the Slits, Vivien Goldman (who was simultaneously recording the classic dub/funk/punk Dirty Washing 12" on 99 Records which featured Beresford as well as Keith Levine, George Oban, Robert Wyatt, Adrian Sherwood and others) , Igor (Nag & Bendles roommate), parents of the members and many more.. The sound over the course of their career started off as rugged Door And The Window-ish songs/pieces on the first single but by the 1st LP and 12" evolved into an off-kilter songwriting style similar to that of Maher Shalal Hash Baz, Red Krayola, early Beat Happening, Good Missionaries and lesser knowns like Department Store Santas, Mark Tucker, Philip Johnson, etc.. By "We Know Nonsense" many songs have an almost lounge jazz style. This probably doesnt sound too appealing but the record does have its moments, including one of my fave 49 American songs (though some of the tracks are definitely not my bag) ...."

"What might seem to others to be harsh reviews were to us wonderful complimentary fodder; swamped in kettle and saucepan percussion, a hearty shabbiness, amateurism viewed as a material virtue rather than a spiritual one, and the best quote of all, makes Swell Maps sound like Led Zeppelin." - Nag (Wonder liner notes).

"The 49 Americans were an experiment in the pursuit of happiness... Have fun! Play! Participate! Everyone should be allowed to be an American." - Andrew Brenner (aka Giblet).

"Not many of those visiting the London Musicians Collective venue in Camden Town during the late 1970s, and hearing the free improvisers active therein, would have conceived the idea of recording an album of happy-go-lucky pop songs with them. ""To The Firmament” is the third and finest album released from 500mg, Michael Gibbons of Bardo Pond. Unlike his previous and primarily acoustic guitar affairs, Mr. Gibbons latest album showcases a higher level of experimentation and varied sounds and techniques. Samples of viola, cello, trumpets, and other various sound forms are incorporated in the well-established 500mg guitar-based framework. Voices (and not just the ones in your psyche) can also be heard, even prominently on two tracks, one being Mr. Gibbons take on the Stones “Sister Morphine.” Programmed and sequenced as two suites, “To The Firmament” takes the listener on a cinematically dreamlike stated journey. Through the albums use of spoken-word, sub-conscious visions may appear real upon multiple listens. All of this, of course, is quite heavy. Pressed on 180-gram vinyl with an 11/11” foldout poster included, the LP is limited to 350 copies." - Drawing Room.

Price: $24.00
"5599 is a new duo featuring Frances electronic improvisation giant Jean-Marc Foussat on EMS Synthi AKS and current golden boy Augustin Brousseloux on electric guitar and alto saxophone. Heureusement que le sang seche vite features 3 tracks where guitar and saxophone interplay with analog synthesizer to create psychedelic, dense and textured soundscapes of aggressive noise onslaughts and moments of bliss. Born in Oran (Algeria) in 1955, Jean-Marc Foussat played in several experimental rock groups before he started a career as a sound engineer in diverse studios which progressed towards recording live improvised music around 1979. He has collaborated with labels such as Incus, Hat Hut, Po-Torch, Rift, Rec Rec, and Celluloid where he recorded a number of songs for Bill Laswells seminal Massacre on the album Killing Time in 1981. In 1983, he self-released the groundbreaking Abattage which deserves its position on a pedestal amidst the greatest French improvisation records. Since the 1990s he returned to playing in improvisation groups such as Marteau Rouge, alongside Makoto Sato and Jean-Francois Pauvros, and Aliquid with Sylvain Guerineau. Born in 1999, saxophonist and guitarist Augustin Brousseloux is a young prodigy currently storming the French improvisation underground. At the age of 16, he has already collaborated -- live and on albums -- with heavyweights such as Noel Akchote, Costes and Jean-Marc Foussat." - Nashazphone.

"Samo DJ skates back to the fold with a dope three tracker produced in tandem with 5ive. On Drunkenstein they call on the help of fellow Born Free producer Powder for a micro dub house number that sounds like a delicious Rhythm & Sound plate pitched up and played at 45 rpm. On the flip, Ethno Room provides a more inward looking dub mixe before End Game goes down a more disco-fixed tip for the ride home." - Bleep.

2017 repress. 75 Dollar Bill is Che Chen and Rick Brown. "Ches interest in the Arabic modes of Mauritanian music has marked our sound quite a bit but I have brought some things, too. The plywood crate I play is a big factor, defining, by its positive qualities (a nice warm boom sound) as well as by its simplicity, what were likely to do in the percussion realm. Wood/Metal/Plastic/Pattern/Rhythm/Rock, this new record, differs quite a bit from the previous one, notably in the rhythmic tone. Wooden Bag (2015) was all forward momentum, stomping and shaking, but the new record explores a long-standing interest of mine: odd and compound meters. In most of my previous musical activities, Ive convinced my partners to delve into this, but in 75 Dollar Bill it has just felt natural and I believe Ches modal investigations and melodic/harmonic tendencies enhance (and are enhanced by) this combination. The current record differs from the last in another big way: reinforcements! Over our few years together, Che and I have frequently had friends play with us at some of our gigs. There have been all sorts of permutations of instruments and some great friends/players who dont all appear on this record but here we are lucky to have a bunch of them: Cheryl Kingan (of The Scene Is Now) on baritone and alto saxes, Andrew Lafkas (of Todd Capps Mystery Train) on contrabass, Karen Waltuch (of Zeke & Karen) on viola, Rolyn Hu (of True Primes) on trumpet and Carey Balch (of Knoxvilles Give Thanks) on floor tom. Please enjoy Wood/Metal/Plastic/Pattern/Rhythm/Rock. Earth saw is one of our earliest tunes and, I think, the first result of this compound meter approach. Its a slow 9 beat phrase Che came up with for this odd groove. Beni Said has no fixed rhythmic cycle but a roughly unison melodic phrase and a pulsing, loose feeling of 3s and 4s played using a box full of bottle caps. Cummins Falls features Carey Balch on Diddley-beat floor tom and me reprising the maracas. Im Not Trying To Wake Up is another of our compound meter songs, this one using an 18 beat scheme." - Rick Brown.

"CD release of one of 2016s most acclaimed albums, the first release on Glitterbeats tak:til imprint. 75 Dollar Bills second full-length crashed onto many of the years most prestigious best-of lists, including those of The Wire, Uncut, The Village Voice, and more. The NYC-based duo of Rick Brown and Che Chen creates hypnotic, pulsing music that weaves an ecstatic line from raw electric blues, Arabic modes, and entrancing folk minimalism back to the streets of New York. Notes by Rick Brown: "I feel very lucky to have wound up playing in 75 Dollar Bill with Che. Ill take some credit for the early setup, as I pursued the idea of us jamming together for a few years before we actually made some music together. But when it comes to focusing our sound, putting together a good set-list, imagining how to expand the group with guests and designing almost all of the visual/package aspects, Che has taken the lead. Obviously, he is responsible for his own parts and playing and his interest in the Arabic modes of Mauritanian music has marked our sound quite a bit but I have brought some things, too. The plywood crate I play is a big factor, defining, by its positive qualities (a nice warm boom sound) as well as by its simplicity, what were likely to do in the percussion realm. WMPPRR, this new record, differs quite a bit from the previous one, notably in the rhythmic tone. Wooden Bag (released in 2015 on Other Music Recording Co.) was all forward momentum, stomping and shaking, but the new record explores a long-standing interest of mine: odd and compound meters. In most of my previous musical activities, Ive convinced my partners to delve into this, but in 75 Dollar Bill it has just felt natural and I believe Ches modal investigations and melodic/harmonic tendencies enhance (and are enhanced by) this combination. For the present, though, please enjoy Wood/Metal/Plastic/ Pattern/Rhythm/Rock." - Tak:Til/Glitterbeat.

"If collectors are asked about splendid 70s Japanese psych album, they will probably all come up with different comparisons. Flower Travellin Band? Speed, Glue & Shinki? Love? Far Out? Or? Probably some collectors will answer "The 8th Likely Faces".
The 8th Likely Faces was a country rock band based in Hokkaido. Their English sung music however had strong psychedelic leanings. They released 200 copies of the original LP in 74. This CD-reissue comes in a mini-LP sleeve with a lyric insert and OBI." - Branco Label.
