Artist: ALLEN, LORI E
Title: Tears Of The Material Vulture
Format: Cass
Label: The Tapeworm
Country: UK
Price: $8.00
"Lori E Allen is an unemployed prehistoric archaeologist from middle America, b. 1975, now living and working between London and Berlin as an experimental composer and video artist. In the early 90s while studying at New York University she met and began vaguely collaborating and cavorting with DJ Fat Pants, the obscure genome from which Madame Chaos was conceived. "Madame Chaos" was a public access television show, cablecast on Manhattan Neighborhood Network and Brooklyn Community Access Television in New York City from 1995 to 2005. Allen was involved until she was kicked out and describes the show, as it was seen on TV, as being "a re-digested type of media vomit which should comprise one the major vital food groups for growing children." Tears of the Material Vulture is a new composition which builds itself specifically upon three samples from two of Madame Chaos early cassette releases, MC Sampler and Creeping Eskimo Chong, both dating from 1995, and resurrected here in memory of those creepy times. Cover illustration by Deborah Wale." - The Tapeworm.

Artist: ALLEN, TERRY
Title: Bottom of the World
Format: LP
Label: TLA
Country: USA
Price: $28.00
"Bottom of the World is Terry Allens first studio release in over 14 years. There may be no greater maverick than Terry Allen in all of alt-country music. Allen is a standard-bearer of the Lubbock, TX, country scene. Widely heralded as the most progressive movement in all of contemporary country, digging into modern-day concerns with a gutsy, liberal perspective, while maintaining a firm musical grounding in regional country and folk traditions. Allen is perhaps the most ambitious all of the artists coming out of this scene (Joe Ely, Jimmie Dale Gilmore), writing complex song cycles that have been performed with the help of fellow eclectics ranging from Lowell George to David Byrne." -TLA.

Artist: ALLEN, TERRY
Title: Ghost Ship Rodez
Format: CD
Label: Orion Read
Country: USA
Price: $27.00
"In Ghost Ship Rodez Terry Allen pursues a fictional investigation of what may have happened in the mind of French artist, playwright and actor Antonin Artaud during a 17-day journey restrained in the dark hold of the freighter Washington in 1937, and later, in various mental institutions. While living in France, Artaud had obtained a walking stick that he considered was the staff of Jesus Christ handed down to St. George. In 1937, Artaud journeyed to Ireland to return the staff to its country of origin. However, while there, he experienced a series of extreme mental and emotional crises that culminated in a violent altercation with Dublin police. Artaud’s subsequent deportation to France was a grueling journey, which he spent straitjacketed and chained to a metal cot in the bowels of the ship. The live theater piece from which this radio play was adapted, was originally commissioned by and developed at Les Subsistance Artist Atellier Laboratories, Lyon, France and performed there as a work-in- progress, June 2006, at Festival Les Intranquilles. It was further developed and performed at MassMoca, North Adams, MA, Feb. 2008. The completed work premiered at the Lensic Theater of the Performing Arts, Santa Fe, NM, April 2010 in conjunction with Terry Allen’s exhibition Ghost Ship Rodez (The Momo Chronicles) at Site Santa Fe, Feb-May, 2010." - Orion Read

Artist: ALLEN, TERRY
Title: Live at Als Grand Hotel, May 7, 1971
Format: LP
Label: Orion Read
Country: USA
Price: $30.00
"Four years before the release of his celebrated country concept album, Juarez, Terry Allen was invited by his friend Allen Ruppersberg to perform at the opening night of Als Grand Hotel, an installation/exhibition where Ruppersberg converted a two-story craftsman house in Hollywood into a fully functioning hotel with seven themed guest rooms. Terry Allen set up his piano and played all original songs to a familiar and enthusiastic crowd, including early versions of the Juarez series and five songs that remained unreleased until now. Lost for almost 40 years, the original recordings have been restored and released as a new gatefold LP album with photographs documenting the installation and live performance. The record brings together sad songs and mad songs, songs about the past and the uncertain future… live, raw material from the beginning of this great songwriters career." - Orion Read. Edition of 500 copies, from 2011.

Artist: ALLETT, JACK
Title: The Object Isnt There
Format: LP
Label: Audiomer
Country: Belgium
Price: $25.00
"With The Object Isnt There, UK guitar player and producer Jack Allett has made a deeply personal masterpiece based around cyclical guitar parts and electronic percussion. Playing like a half-remembered fever dream with an aesthetic that is ragged, hypnotic, and spacey, its two side-long pieces touch on minimalism, kraut-infused dub, and euphoric dancefloor optimism. As comfortable being played after Manuel Göttschings album E2-E4 (MGART 424CD) as right before a Terekke lo-fi house anthem, it is laced with the melancholy of an early morning post-rave comedown. Yet for all the references and name-checking, its a record that is hard to compare to anything else, past or present. This record is about - insofar as instrumental music need be about anything - hallucinations. The title The Object Isnt There serves as a concise definition, derived from the quote "A hallucination is a strictly sensational form of consciousness, as good and true a sensation as if there were a real object there. The object happens to be not there, that is all." (William James, The Principles Of Psychology, 1890) Having experienced constant tinnitus -- a form of auditory hallucination -- for the last 13 years, Jack has long questioned the distinction of something experienced as being either there or not-there. Even if, strictly speaking, a hallucination is something thats not there, if the reality of how it affects day-to-day existence is undeniable then to any extent that matters, it is there. But The Object Isnt There is no tale of woe, nor simply a response to this one condition, and tinnitus need not be considered only as distressing or distracting. Allett sees it merely as one example of many things in life that cross this uncertain terrain. Allett explains: "There are obvious parallels here with the notion of active listening. There is room for emotion too, particularly an overwhelming, all-consuming emotion. Essentially the music here is concerned with being overwhelmed by a sensation, never really being sure to what extent you are conjuring it up yourself, to what extent it exists independently of you, but ultimately deciding that it doesnt much matter; the sensation itself was undeniable." The Object Isnt There was written, recorded, and mixed in Camberwell and Camden, London, UK (2012-2016). Artwork by Graham Lambkin; Design by Jeroen Wille. Mastered by Jack Allett. Edition of 300." - Audiomer.
