Title: 1991 Pre-Shadow Ring Recordings
Format: 7"
Label: Siltbreeze
Country: USA
Price: $8.00
"The C&B is short for Cat & Bells Club, a brief precursor that would soon be transformed into the estimable poetics of The Shadow Ring. Studious fans of the bands releases may recognize this name from the whimsical word search found on the back cover of their 1995 7, Some Of Us. Ah, finally; mystery solved & now all the ducks are on the pond. While early Shadow Ring managed to fuse equal parts Tyrannosaurus Rex mystical recitations w/Throbbing Gristle aural idolatry, The C&B seem divinely born out of the sputtering taps of brown ale that flowed freely down the gullets of various 1st generation DIY shufflers, most notably, 49 Americans or Door And The Window. And while this is just dumb luck, theres no denying a genus, unintentional as it may be. The templates for the ruminative, droll & original wordsmithing not to mention the threadbare musical accompaniment that would soon become the hallmark for The Shadow Ring sound are now available for the 1st time ever in a 300 press 7", 4 track ep. Original artwork by founding member, Graham Lambkin." - Siltbreeze.

Artist: CABALLO TRIPODE
Title: Horror Vacui
Format: LP
Label: Tic Tac Totally
Country: USA
Price: $15.00
"Debut record from Valencia, Spains obscure CABALLO TRIPODE, a project formed and recorded during a hiatus by LE JONATHAN REILLY members about two years ago, and now a fully functioning band alongside LJR. Caballo Tripodes debut LP is an exercise in contrasting rustic-Spanish-folk and garage rock with deliberately futuristic chaos, time issues, and other various "unexpected choices" of all shapes and colors. A homespun psychedelic result with a wildness similar to Meercazs spacey rockscapes. Here we have songs that position themselves on a garage and surf backdrop only to depart right into a much deeper bag of tricks. All this while theyve kept one foot down on their romantic sensibilities, regional (Valencia, Spain) vibes and good ole crunchy guitars. So it never floats off into outer space either. A very unique and regional take on what "garage" and "surf" record can actually become in a post-garage and surf world that rarely attempts honest retooling efforts in their old shops." - Tic Tac Totally.

Artist: CADAVER IN DRAG
Title: Raw Child
Format: LP
Label: Animal Disguise
Country: USA
Price: $13.00
"Pummeling psychedelic heaviness from the fertile musical underground of Lexington, Kentucky, the three-piece Cadaver In Drag are often linked to the genre labels of noise or metal, but like most bands in the ADR universe, it is nearly impossible to categorize whats really going on here. Just know that this is an extremely heavy trip, and that the striking cover art tells the entire story better than I ever could. Added aural mind-fucking courtesy of Robert Beatty (of Hair Police) on synthesizer and mastering duties. Demonstrating their capability of harnessing the thick, violent power of Man is the Bastard while filtering it all through a cloud of phased-out Floydian weed smoke, Cadaver In Drag weave a tale of misanthropy and disgust with Raw Child, their debut full-length, proudly presented on both vinyl and CD formats from Animal Disguise Recordings." - Animal Disguise.

Artist: CAESAR, J.A.
Title: Den-en Ni Shisu OST
Format: CD
Label: Showboat/Sky Station
Country: Japan
Price: $29.00
"First reissue of this 1974 J.A. Ceasar-performed theatrical underground classic. "The early 70s in Japan are often painted as an era of political and artistic disillusionment. On the one hand, the state rode roughshod over widespread opposition by renewing a mutual security treaty with the US, forcibly purchasing farming land near Tokyo for the construction of a new airport and stamping down hard on student occupations of universities. In the face of the implacability of state power, the protest movements fluffy dreams of peaceful revolution were viciously scalpel-sculpted into new and violent forms by Red Army hijackings, lynchings and hostage taking. The sense of confusion and lost innocence was further emphasized by teenage thrill killers, coin locker babies and the bizarre coup detat-cum-public suicide of novelist Yukio Mishima. Against this background Japanese youth music began to discard the perky Western imitations of the Group Sounds boom and the college folkies, and slide into more appropriately brutal forms of self expression. Folk turned angry and personal, while rock groups like Las Rallizes Denudes, Flower Travellin Band and Keiji Hainos Lost Aaraaff discovered bad acid, dissonance and heavy electric blues. Some of the most exciting and evocative music of the time, however, was born out of the avant garde theatre groups that had played such a central role in the 60s ferment. One of the most important was the Tenjo Sajiki Company (its name taken from Marcel Carnes wartime occupation fantasy Les Enfants Du Paradis), formed by poet, film maker, boxing fan and all-around agent provocateur, Shuji Terayama. Renowned for Living Theatre-inspired audience participation happenings and extreme street theatre designed to shock the bourgeois, by 1970 the group had already become a haven for runaway teens, and a focus for police investigation. Terayama was canny enough to realize that co-opting their music was an ideal way to hijack adolescent energies, and he consistently used heavy amplified rock to jump-start his chaotic, socially critical acid operas. Heard today, even independent of their lyrical message, theyre astonishingly powerful as pieces of music, deploying huge Magma choruses alongside juggernaut organ, guitar, bass, drums and fully out-there vocalizing. The pick of this bunch is the soundtrack to Terayawas 1974 film Den-en Ni Shisu (Death In The Country). Described as a fictional autobiography, it tells of a sensitive adolescent poet who later becomes a film director, stuck with his neurotic mother in a rural northern backwater, who dreams of running off first with a neighbours wife and then with a traveling freakshow. The films fractured narrative of awakening sexuality and severing of parental bonds is captured in hallucinatory imagery and an equally ambitious soundtrack by J.A. Caesar, which binds the whole film together with a subtle, subconscious logic. The deployment of disparate elements in an all-consuming flow, which works even independently of the images, is masterly. The familiar psych guitar, organ and choral chanting are heavy enough in places -- as on the discs definitive reading of Caesars massive and haunting Wasan -- to approach Sabbath levels of dense pounding, and theres also a frighteningly visceral vocal turn from folk singer Kan Mikami. But the score also sees Caesar expanding his instrumental palette, scoring some tracks for sideshow brass band or gently plucked guitar, weeping violin and chant. The weird intervals of his sparse, medieval-influenced melodies linger in the memory with the force of nostalgia for a past not directly experienced. Its an amazing performance: from street hippy whod never picked up an instrument to film soundtrack composer in five years. Caesars soundtrack for Den-en Ni Shisu lost out by a single vote to Toru Takemitsu for the best film soundtrack of 1974." -- Alan Cummings, The Wire.

Title: Outlander Sessions
Format: LP
Label: New World Of Sound
Country: USA
Price: $13.00
"Outlander Sessions is a personal statement about distance, isolation and alienation brought on by love, and the transition from rock guitarist to solo acoustic performer. Zachary Cale was previously a member of several short lived Olympia college bands inspired by Dead Moon, Unwound, and Pere Ubu. Upon his arrival to Harlem NYC in 2002 and affected by the tunesmithery of Peter Laughner, Tim Hardin and Townes Van Zandt, Zack recorded this LP of ballads, Highway 61 rockers, and finger picked instrumentals. Silkscreened covers ltd. edition of 400." - NWOS. First new NWOS release in years (previous titles include No Neck, Brother Love, Tono Bungay, Suntanama, Fuzzhead, Mike Rep, Zalvi, Plague Lounge (Ben Chasny), etc..).

Title: Walking Papers
Format: LP
Label: All Hands Electric
Country: USA
Price: $13.00
"WALKING PAPERS, the sophomore album by Zachary Cale, marks the artists leap from a four-track-bedroom-folkie to a songwriter of visionary scope. Recorded in 2005 in the legendary Bearsville Sound Studios by Marcata engineer, Kevin Mcmahon (The Walkmen, Titus Andronicus), WALKING PAPERS was granted a belated release in December 2008 on the burgeoning Brooklyn-based label, All Hands Electric. Ghostly in sound, the album evokes the austere finger-style guitar work of John Fahey and the poetic couplets of Townes Van Zandt. Moving away from the lo-fi intimacy of his debut album, OUTLANDER SESSIONS (released on New World of Sound in 2005), Cale is accompanied by an array of musicians. Though at times classically inspired, and at others roots-based, the instrumentation is always understated, providing a focus on lyric and melody. Fittingly, the singers voice has gracefully matured into the road-weary rasp that his story-based lyrics require. WALKING PAPERS exhibits a genuine craft of American tradition; the songs are bona fide gems with every note and lyrical phrase informed by a quiet beauty, both familiar and timeless." - All Hands Electric. ⿿Zachary Cale is a songwriters songwriter, as prolific as he is original. His voice can be delicate for love or wry for satire. The ability to hear what is in a song has guided him well in the making of his own. While the influence of traditional American music is always present in his compositions, he is able to infuse something fresh and new to the form." - John Allen (WFMU).

Artist: CALE/TONY CONRAD/ANGUS MACLISE/LA MONTE YOUNG/MARIAN ZAZEELA, JOHN
Title: Inside the Dream Syndicate Volume I: Day of Niagara (1965)
Format: CD
Label: Table Of The Elements
Country: USA
Price: $15.00
"From 1962 through 1965 John Cale, Tony Conrad, Angus MacLise, La Monte Young and Marian Zazeela participated in a collaborative ensemble that articulated the big bang of minimalism. Utilizing long duration and precise pitch, they forged an aggressively mesmerizing dream music -- denying the activity of composition and elaborating shared ideas of performance and improvisation. However, the many rehearsal and performance recordings from this period were repressed, and remained inaccessibly buried until this moment. With the recent discovery of an additional cache of tapes, now restored and digitally remastered, the world can step Inside the Dream Syndicate for the very first time." - Table Of The Elements.[For information about LaMonte Youngs response to this release (which he did not authorize, and which he considers to be very poor in quality, with a missing segment of music, inaccurate sound mix, etc), please refer to: http://www.melafoundation.org/statemen.htm]

Artist: CAMBERWELL NOW
Title: Alls Well
Format: CD
Label: Recommended
Country: UK
Price: $17.50
The complete works of this post-This Heat band featuring Charles Hayward, recorded 1982-1986. Featuring these original releases: Meridian, The Ghost Trade & Greenfingers LP/EPs. "This definitive edition collects the entire released output of Camberwell Now (two EPs and an LP), newly re-mastered by the band and repackaged with full notes, lyrics, additional photographs and artwork. Chronologically, Camberwell Now immediately succeeded This Heat, Charles Hayward continuing to work with This Heats last bassist Trefor Goronwy, and the two of them joining forces with Stephen Rickard who, for the new band, designed his unique cassette switchboard, a kind of proto-sampler -- though thats not the half of it (Steves article fully explaining the device is reprinted in the new, expanded booklet that comes with the CD). Musically, Camberwell both followed and departed from the style of This Heat. Formally and gesturally there are common elements, but there is far greater transparency and the sound palette is quite different: the music is more placed than grown, as the slow accumulation and evolution of material in This Heat gives way to a more immediate and orderly development of the material in Camberwell Now. The songs -- nostalgic, scary, and quietly desperate -- peer into the future to find harbour but confront only fragments of ruin. Debris and disturbance eat away at the root and corrode each shiny surface (mostly the musical work of the cassette switchboard). The juxtaposition of powerful, virtuosic playing and the eerie, often unidentifiable keenings, chords and constant motion of the cassettes is one of the things that make Camberwell Now so expressive of its time -- when the whole social and political fabric of a no-longer-great Britain was unravelling. Camberwell Now worked and recorded in Cold Storage, and toured intermittently through Europe between 1983 and 1986, when they disbanded." - Recommended

Artist: CAMINITI, EVAN
Title: West Winds
Format: LP
Label: 3Lobed
Country: USA
Price: $20.00
"Evan Caminiti is a guitarist full of big ideas and even bigger sounds. Currently known as one-half of the San Francisco Bay area avant-droners Barn Owl, Caminiti has spent a great deal of time the past few years playing and recording gorgeous solo explorations focused primarily on the guitar but, when need be, accented by additional instrumentation. Following several prior releases, Caminitis abilities have been honed to the razor-sharp point of his new LP, West Winds. Three Lobed Recordings is proud to present this album, Caminitis most mature and meditative to date. West Winds is a discourse on solitude and cosmic exploration set primarily to an open tuned guitar. It is a logical successor to Caminitis strong, large(r) scale solo debut, Psychic Mud Shrine (Digitalis, 2009) and calls to mind Roy Montgomery, Hex-era Earth, and Popul Vuh. The album is the result of Caminitis six-month-long focus on each songs form and musical composition. Over that span of time, Caminiti assembled and came to know each song intimately, constructing a series of strong structural bases. That knowledge permitted him to record the final takes accentuated by numerous potent improvisational flourishes as heard on West Winds. This long-form approach of adding chaotic, off-the-cuff elements to such long-crafted tracks is basically the opposite approach to that which is used within the context of Barn Owl. Through its contemplative tone, West Winds is the perfect soundtrack to your next night alone in the literal or figurative desert. It is a bold and cohesive statement from a young artist already capable of recording greatness." - 3Lobed.

Title: Sol Powr
Format: CD
Label: Music Mundane
Country: UK
Price: $14.50
"A timely reissue of an LP that originally saw the light of day on vinyl, courtesy of the esteemed Finnish label Lal Lal Lal, some time toward the start of this millennium. Well, the 300 copies soon disappeared, Campbell and Lal Lal Lal moved on to further releases and everyone was happy. That is, all apart from those who missed out and had to trawl ebay and rare record lists if they wanted to hear what amounted to only the second Neil Campbell solo record, after 1997s "These premises are no longer bugged". Campbell is of course familiar from his recordings with Vibracathedral Orchestra, Sunroof!, Richard Youngs, The A Band and many more over the past two decades. His current project, Astral Social Club, goes from strength to strength, prompting Dusted magazine to call it "the purest expression of his art of the ecstatic on record". In many ways, "SOL POWR" is the logical precursor to Astral Social Club, with its heavy focus on keyboard-driven electronic pulse flotation - when it was originally released Julian Cope remarked that it "sounds as though Martin Rev had teamed up with Moebius and Roedelius, during their CLUSTER 2 period". This reissue, the first release on Campbells own Music Mundane label, supplements the original vinyl LP with three additional tracks from the same period. Two of them were originally released on a miniscule-edition 7" lathe-cut by Stavangers Gold Soundz Records, while the third was commissioned for download on Brian Lavelles online TechNOH label. They fit right in with the LPs original seven tracks, forming fifty of the most glorious minutes in Campbells not-inconsiderable discography. Edition of 500 in hard DVD style case."

Artist: CAN AM DES PUIG
Title: The Book Of Am Part 1 & 2
Format: 2CD/BOOK
Label: Belle Antique
Country: Japan
Price: $125.00
Outrageous reissue of this masterpiece of European acid folk, originally released in 1977, now issued as 2 Super High Material audio CDs (playable on any CD player -- enhanced audio quality that will rearrange your nervous system) housed in a mini-LP style gatefold sleeve accompanying a 144-page book reproducing the original engravings by bandleader Juan Arkotxa. "A unique combination of recordings and artwork which stands up as an enduring testament of the fertile hippie scene which flourished in the Baleric islands during the seventies. Known to record collectors and psych/folk/prog music aficionados alike, this multicultural band formed in the island of Mallorca in the mid-70s and recorded a beautiful (and outrageously scarce) album which has gained cult status as years passed by. The Book Of Am was originally devised as a beautifully illustrated book focused on various world folklore and traditions, coupled with 4 LPs which would represent a musical. This (never completed) 4LP set would correspond to the four phases of day (Dawn, Morning, Afternoon, Night). Only the first of these records (Morning) would eventually see the light of day in a tiny private pressing which changes hands nowadays for obscene amounts of money. A round-the-world trip through the folklore, legends, lore and cosmogonies of some of the worlds cultures, from ancient Egypt to Celtic traditions." - Belle Antique.

"Numbered edition of 500 copies on 180 gram vinyl; glossy sleeve with insert. "Many people watching the ebay auctions were surprised seeing this album selling for nearly 3500 Euro each. Before that, this album was completely unknown. Captain Marry are from Glasgow, Scotland and recorded this demo album in 1974, released in a tiny pressing on the Thor label, hopefully to get a EMI or Chrysalis deal. They wanted to record only a single but came up with a complete album of self-composed tracks. Since it was not that easy for a Scottish band to get attention down in London, this album was the only pressing ever done and sold at band gigs only. 5 musicians, great organ, vocals, extra heavy fuzz-guitar, drums and bass; amazing underground songs, influenced by Deep Purple, Uriah Heep and Beggars Opera, a true lost classic. We were lucky to find the band to made a deal so this beauty can conquer the world of rock music." -Shadoks

Title: Erics Diary
Format: LP
Label: Soft Abuse
Country: USA
Price: $13.00
"Car Commericals are generally uncomfortable; probably shifty-eyed loners that barely leave the basement. Their brand of strictly personal suburban ooze was borne deep within the recesses of New Jersey, just east of I-95. More specifically, this music springs from inside that unspeakable zone deep within the mind where feelings get very messy. David Sutton and Daniel DiMaggio (HOME BLITZ), the duo known as Car Commercials, make mysterious fake rock clatter for heavy petting (yeah right). Following a brief stint as GT Performers, Daniel and David began to make duo recordings as Car Commercials a few years ago, releasing their creepy missives in small runs, mostly for Suttons Leaf Leaf label. The two have tapped into an aspect of nonsensical nihilism that makes Jad Fairs early recordings so alluring, but have forgone his obsession with cartoon horror and monster movies in favor of Faces of Death I thru VI. Erics Diary is the second LP release from Car Commericals, following the out-of-print Judys Dust LP (Cenotaph) from early 2008. Those confounded by Judys Dust will be pleased to know that Erics Diary is where things get...intense. Breathe deep, and prepare to scratch yr head faster than you can say Home Blitz. LP edition of 200 with full color paste-on sleeves." -Soft Abuse. Late 2008 release.

"Judys Dust is the debut full-length LP by Car Commercials of New Brunswick, New Jersey. Here, the duo of David Sutton (Friends and Family, Current Amnesia, Ladderwoe) and Daniel DiMaggio (HOME BLITZ) expand on the rock/mumble strategies from the self-released Jar 7⿝ (Leaf Leaf, 2006) and a couple cassettes kicked around the New Jersey underpasses. Contains twelve songs of missing spaces, too much Center Ice, drums and wires, varispeed recording techniques, and facing backwards ⿿ all from the other side of the E Street. Title: Prisoner of Type
Format: 7"
Label: Soft Abuse
Country: USA
Price: $7.00
"CAR COMMERCIALS explore the personal / loner side of DIY with their singular take on no-chord strum & mumble rock n roll alienation. DAVE SUTTON (CURRENT AMNESIA) & DANIEL DIMAGGIO (HOME BLITZ) have created another soundtrack of suburban boredom and terminal paranoia; the stifling, mundane source of this music (geographically and psychologically speaking) is mirrored and regurgitated in these tunes. Where once they tread a formless, lurching path, Car Commercials now tromp along with more cohesive abandon. Moments of spontaneity and pure attitude are delivered in restrained spurts and jabs, and their chops seem better, too. All in all, Prisoner of Type extends the duos unsettling qmoves into (slightly) less rudimentary corners. Its a savory listen. Hand printed b&w sleeves by ZAK SALLY (LOW) in Minneapolis. Limited edition of 300 copies." -Soft Abuse

Country: USA
Price: $15.00
"CARDBOARD SAX is Holly (Uneven Universe), Dan (Uneven Universe, Haunted Castles, Body Morph), and Olson (Wolf Eyes, Graveyards, Dead Machines) on saxs and electronics. Amazing use of space and restraint on this killer LP debut. Haunting excursions into the dark basement sax damage happening across Michigan these days. Perfect recording and a great example to introduce this trio to the world outside the midwest. WASTELAND JAZZ UNIT is Jon Lorenz and John Rich repping Cincinati s Art Damage Lodge and ripping the B side up with their scathing sax assault. Walls of feedback and distorted jazz take you on a 16 minute ride of beautiful destruction. Artwork by JASON ZEH 33rpm, Limited to 300 copies on Black Vinyl." -- Community College.

Artist: CARDEW, CORNELIUS
Title: Treatise
Format: LP
Label: Planam
Country: Italy
Price: $29.00
"Cornelius Cardews opus magnus Treatise is a 193-page graphic score written between 1963 and 1967 while he was performing with the improvisation group AMM. The scores graphic notation, with its intricately devised graphic lines, shapes and symbols, was intended to question the limits of compositional practice. Decisions concerning pitch, timbre and duration, along with the choice of instruments and the number of performers, are left entirely to the discretion of those willing to devise the rules and means for its performance. This realisation of 4 pages from Treatise by Keith Rowe (tabletop guitar) and Oren Ambarchi (guitar), possibly the most powerful ever achieved, was recorded live at Bimhuis in Amsterdam on Feb 8th 2009. Rowe and Ambarchi use the guitar as a point of departure for completely new techniques and sound environments. Already in the 1960s Rowe made a radical departure from traditional jazz, redefining the guitar in the British collective AMM. He prefers to lay the instrument on the table to manipulate its sound with springs, fans, office appliances and electronics. Ambarchi, also in Sunn O))), Menstruation Sisters and Burial Chamber Trio, predominantly mould guitar sounds into dark sonic patterns. Cornelius Cardew might be considered the most relevant contemporary composer from Great Britain. In the end of the 1950s Karlheinz Stockhausen was very impressed by Cardews abilities as a musician and his knowledge of new music and invited him to participate to the historical Kontrefestival concerts in Cologne (an important pre-fluxus event). In 1960 Cardew was at Darmstadt were he met John Cage, David Tudor and among others Walter Marchetti. Cages experimental techniques were very inspiring for Cardew who, in 1969 founded the Scratch Orchestra, a large, rotating group of professional and amateur performers committed to collective experimentation which might be considered as one of the most convincing collective experiments in the history of 20th century avant-garde culture. Edition limited to 300 copies, reproducing, on the sleeve and the innersleeve, the 4 pages from Treatise performed by Rowe-Ambarchi." -Planam

Title: Enter Naomi - SST, LA And All That
Format: Book
Label: Redoubt Press
Country: USA
Price: $21.00
"JOE CARDUCCIs Enter Naomi began as the authors attempt to discover what had happened to music photographer NAOMI PETERSEN. She worked most notably at SST Records in the 1980s. At the May, 2005 premiere of the Minutemen documentary, We Jam Econo, word spread that she had died two years earlier. As Carducci found out more about her years before and after SST, his planned email death notice became a lengthy photo-essay for the web and eventually this book. "This is an absolutely mesmerizing introduction to L.A.s punk pantheon of outside musicians, artists, photographers, and performers. As Carducci reminds us, the wild kids on the Strip, the Strand, and the Desert created a potent musical underground in the shadow of the corporate-entertainment industry and it continues to subvert and inspire."-Mike David (City of Quartz, Planet of Slums). 270 pages, with photos, illustrations." - Redoubt Press

Title: Rock and the Pop Narcotic
Format: Book
Label: Redoubt
Country: USA
Price: $26.00
"New, amazing third printing of this historic rock book by ex-SST staffer Joe Carducci. First published in 1990 (and later reissued by 2.13.61 in 1994), this book has been painfully out of print for much of the past decade. Now up to 529 pages, paperbound, with Carduccis new preface and afterword; elegantly redesigned. Includes photographs and an illustrated appendix. Subtitled Testament for the Electric Church, this is Carduccis book of Rock Theory, which reads like "a speed freaks hallucination into a dictaphone." A modernized, but still wonderfully dense update of Meltzers Aesthetics of Rock, this book defined the literal "aesthetics" better than anyone before or since, connecting the dots from Sabbath to Black Flag like the ultimate mainline. Unlike just about every other book ever written about "rock", this one is absolutely required reading. If you havent read it, youre stuck on the goddamn wrong side of the fence. Third edition (May, 2005), 529 pages." - FE.

Calliope, grass reeds, violin, accordion, groaning horns, electronics, odd half-heard sounds and minimal, sometimes extremely tortured vocals produce the eeriest, most atmospheric CAROLINER album yet." - Bulls Hit.

"A CD reissue of their 12th album, first out in 1998.  A battle betwixt banjo and pipe organ (organ wins) on a battlefield set in a spooked opera dressing room with creeped corpses as the musicians.  Chills will erupt on top of goosebumps, and the "wire spool" reel to reel recording method (the 2nd CAROLINER album to use this technique for the entire record) gives this even more haunt.  Songs include "Fingers of the Underworld" and "Woven Moon of Sun Straws."  Packed in a handmade and hand-painted paper folder with the same artwork as the original LP, including the lyric sheet." - Bulls Hit

Title: The Chicken Climber Split
Format: LP
Label: Fish Pies
Country: USA
Price: $13.00
"Smoke Tour Lunation" is a second helping of Caroliners inimitable 7" in 12" record format. This time, one sided, split with one members solo marching band disasters. Concentrated on 19th Century electronic music from the troupe behind the Singing Bull Memorial Band. Youll hear mutilated banjo music, violins scraping the floor with ergot infestation, in a diseased church undergoing fire damage, suffering through brain augmentations. Caroliner side clocks in at an epic 28.1 minutes on their portion. Within the other portion of this long-player, Woodpatty serves a monster-mish-mash of deranged marching band cut ups, haunted sea farer drones, chirping homemade electronic circuits eating moldy ears of corn, and piles of broken concreet musical mucous. Woodpatty flips the cake for 23 minutes of tonal dissections. Not bad for a hobo living in a shed for over 200 years. Split release with some Bullshit." - Fish Pies.

"Some really outrageous Krautrock out-there-ness on this 1970 release on the Maritim label, this has been compared to early CAN, SOFT MACHINE or FAUST (or maybe REYNOLS or YAHOWHA 13 trying to appeal to a lounge crowd) with free jazz/avantgarde influences, all subsumed in psychedelic rhythmic fog, with crazed fuzz guitars, swirling organ and Moog, and hypnotic vocals.  Originals are stoopidly expensive and rare collectors" items!  This nice reissue comes to us via the fine folks behind the "Prae-Kraut Pandaemonium" series.  Original full color artwork, white vinyl pressing," - Daily

Title: Recalcitrants
Format: LP
Label: Gods of Tundra
Country: USA
Price: $12.00
"Debut full lenght LP by Lexingtons finest sound creater/destroyer. After a handful of tape releases on Ides, Rampart, Heavy Tapes, and Gods of Tundra, Carson pulls out by far his most complete and excellent work to date. Carsons work can be as complex as the person whos creating it. Here we have 2 distinct side long pieces. Side A depicts a battle between organic clang/scrape and piercing ruined electronics. Each faction ponies up with total trance like, but not very calming, moves. By the end youll have just walked through a weird fucking fight, and time will not really matter anymore. And thats only side A. Side B removes the organics and goes straight for the brain with sharp shocks and tones. Its not harsh, its not calming, its not drone...its just total deep fried electronics. Edition of 300, clear vinyl." - Gods Of Tundra.

Title: Lunar Eclipse
Format: CD
Label: Important
Country: USA
Price: $13.50
"Lunar Eclipse was culled from over 30 hours of recordings taking place, inadvertently, on the equinox, lunar eclipse and winter solstice of 2004.The duo of Tom Carter (Charalambides) and Robert Horton sound as if they are channeling the natural power of these significant calender days into the music. They both noticed something special was happening during the initial recording session when they looked at a clock and realised that theyd been playing for over 5 hours. Throughout the album Carter slowly plays louder and more powerfully than usual over drone-master Robert Hortons organic & electronic chimes, drones, jangles, dangles and splendor. The result is a vast, expansive sound cavern full of hidden melody, slow drones, textured tribal gong and hidden mystic rhythm." - Important.

Title: Lace Heart
Format: Double LP
Label: Root Strata
Country: USA
Price: $28.00
"Double LP reissue of a 2005 CD-R released on Christinas own Many Breaths imprint. Six love songs comprised of elliptical bell like guitar phrases, barely there, sometimes even coaxing silence, set behind the extended vowel sounds of voice. Soft gentle performances here, like this whole record was cut very very late at night or in the early hours of the morning. An unhinged nowness is pervasive in Christinas work, and Lace Heart is no exception. There is a very private feeling here, some kinda intimacy that just feels really rare. Lovers of past, present & future all collapse into one. Memories of smells, tastes & textures all channeled into wide open song. No one really does it like this. Three sides of music & and an etching of one of Christinas drawings on the fourth side. Red vinyl with maroon splatter. Edition of 500." - Root Strata

Title: Living Contact
Format: CD
Label: Kranky
Country: USA
Price: $14.00
"The material on Living Contact is made up solely of Christina Carter on acoustic guitar and occasional vocals. It was recorded on boombox and four track tape from 1994-98, the period between Charalambides Union and Houston albums, with most of the material recorded in 1995 and 1996. Wholly Other originally released Living Contact as an edition of 100 CDRs in 2001 and the labels catalog describes the music as The primitive and spectral underpinnings of Charalambides rendered with mysterious simplicity." - Kranky.

Title: Original Darkness
Format: CD
Label: Kranky
Country: USA
Price: $12.00
"Christina Carter has a gift. In a world where most people shy away from the truth, from honesty in emotion, Christina has the strength to address those feelings head on through her music. Within the songs of Original Darkness, she confronts loneliness, self doubt, inadequacy and desire. She bares these emotions in a sometimes tender, sometimes forceful, sometimes pleading voice, a voice in which you can hear her vulnerability, her trepidation. Christinas words, and the mournful sound of them, stirs a melancholy that is supported and framed by her gently plucked guitar notes, notes that echo the sadness in the world she sings of, as well as the words she sings. These 10 new songs are effective at painting pictures, exposing the underbelly of what we all really think but most will not say, of what we all really feel but push away. With the addition of gentle bells and occasional keyboards, Christina reminds us of what it means to be honestly human. The latest album from the longtime Charalambides mainstay follows her Electrice album from late 2006 on kranky as well as a split album with Pocahaunted from early in 2008." -Kranky

Title: Weve
Format: CD
Label: Digitalis
Country: USA
Price: $11.00
"Christina Carter is best known for her work with ex-husband Tom Carter in the legendary Charalambides.  She also boasts an impressive body of solo work on labels such as Kranky and Eclipse.  Gown is Nanaimo, BCs own Andrew MacGregor.  Early in 2005, the two begin a month-long trek from MacGregors home in British Columbia to their current place of residence in Western Mass, where MacGregor is temporarily running the mighty Yod store. During their journey, the duo played live on WDVS radio in California.  Weve is culled from that sprawling session.  Carters playing has always been about creating open spaces that live and breathe on their own.  Weve is no different, but Gown manages to find his way into those spaces and destroy them.  There is a constantly shifting dichotomy at play here, and the results are fantastic.  Gown and Carter have loads of chemistry and Weve is the perfect of example." - Digitalis Industries.

"Gorgeous new CDR release from Charalambides Tom Carter once again displaying his ability to reach otherworldly planes with the simple means of steel strings. Tracks one and two are both percussive workouts: one is a lush crystalline blues and two treads a colder, desolate landscape. Three and four arm softer warm minimal exercises using what sounds like an e-bow for the most part. Another great one that stands as testament to Carters highly unorthodox mastery of steel strings. 4 tracks totalling 43 minutes, strictly limited to 150 copies in an oversized A5 sleeve." 2005 release.

Format: CD
Label: Kranky
Country: USA
Price: $14.00
"Monument is a recording of guitar music from Tom Carter of Charalambides and is the second in a series of Charalambides-related reissues by Kranky. The two tracks of solo lap steel guitar were recorded live to DAT by Tom Carter a few days before a live performance in March, 2001. Monument was originally released by Wholly Other in an edition of 55 CDRs. The first track, Monument 1 (Memorial) is slightly longer than two minutes and barely reveals itself. The second, Monument 2, is 47 minutes in length and considerably more expansive and louder than the opening cut. The album was made using lap steel guitar, glass slides, digitech tsr-12 stereo reverb, a rat distortion pedal and craftsman screwdrivers." -Kranky

White Les Paul copy, lap steel, and a purloined bell collection layered into three long tracks of string moan and slithering hum. "This is the companion release to the Tom Carter LP titled Shots At Infinity 2 being released on Important simultaneously. Shots At Infinity 1 (the CD) is comprised of recordings from various basements in the northeastern USA from late 2007. Title: Shots At Infinity 2
Format: LP
Label: Important
Country: USA
Price: $18.00
"This is the companion release to the Tom Carter CD titled Shots At Infinity 1 being released on Important simultaneously. Shots at Infinity 2 is two long live tracks in the same mode as Shots At Infinity 1, but more cut loose and blown out, recorded in Nemo Bidstrups record store and Burnt Hills basement jam zone. Tom Carter is a guitar player best known for his work with acclaimed psych-drone iconoclasts Charalambides. Since 2000, however, he has become increasingly active as not only a solo artist but as a collaborator. He has performed with improvising musicians as diverse as Thurston Moore, Jandek, Tetuzi Akiyama, Matt Valentine, and many others, as well as being a key member in groups like Badgerlore (with Ben Chasny of Six Organs of Admittance), Friday Group, Mudsuckers (with Robert Horton and the Yellow Swans), and Zaika (with Marcia Bassett of the Double Leopards and Hototogisu). Carters solo work covers a lot of territory, but latter-day sightings show him to be concentrating on looped guitar drones of immensely stacked beauty, with heaps of psychedelic melodic content missing from the repertoires of many noise and drone bands. His influences include everyone from LaMonte Young to David Crosby."-Important

Title: Steeljaguar Rocket
Format: CD
Label: Digitalis
Country: USA
Price: $11.00
"Charalambides Tom Carter and Robert Horton have become close collaborators over the past few years, appearing in a handful of projects together from Kyrgyz (w/ Jewelled Antler-ites Loren Chasse and Christine Boepple) to Mudsuckers (w/ D. Yellow Swans). But when they are stripped back to a duo, the sonic onslaught is just as dense and impressive. Steeljaguar Rocket is the second album, following-up Lunar Eclipse on Important Records. Horton again acts as the puppetmaster, pulling the strings to move each sound into its right place. Expansive improvisations and full-on psychedelic freakouts intermingle, creating a cosmic web of enchanted debris. Fiddler extraordinaire Hal Huges adds exponentially to the dynamics at work with his marvelous playing on the title track. The strained violin notes whisk the listener away to the dirt-soaked alleys of Damascus. Its a hypnotic journey through jewel-encrusted foreign lands, like a solo flight to sun. Everything is not peaceful on Steeljaguar Rocket, however. Digging further into the cataclysm finds Carter & Horton turning up the volume knobs and cranking out wailing solos on top of a bed of heavy drones and cacaphonic drums. Like Hortons Future Ears project, its equal parts noise, free jazz, and fractured folk bliss. There is no stone unturned on Steeljaguar Rocket, and just as it feels as though it will collapse in on itself, Carter & Horton bring everything back down to earth, ready to begin again." - Digitalis.

Title: A Rather Solemn Promise
Format: CD
Label: Great Pop Supplement
Country: UK
Price: $12.00
"Another T. Carter duo creeps down the pipeline. This time its with Christian Kiefer, who some of you may recognize from his Tompkins Square CD with Sharon Krauss a couple of years back. This is an all-improvised set of threadbare-loose, (mostly) electrified folk blues- and its almost normal enough to sneak onto the iPod of your average goateed tea sipper, but theres enough dense high-end steel rail shimmer to send the timid packing. Rambling, dusted, and deeply psyched out, sort of like The Hired Hand re-imagined by the Crosby-led Planet Earth Rock & Roll Orchestra (c. 1969). Covers designed, rendered, and hand-screened by Rob Fisk of Free Porcupine Society. Numbered edition of 500, from the label folks responsible for the now-defunct Earworm Records."

Artist: CARTWRIGHT & DAVU SERU, GEORGE
Title: Rag
Format: LP
Label: Roaratorio
Country: USA
Price: $19.00
"Rag captures the best from a series of freely improvised meetings between saxophonist George Cartwright and percussionist Davu Seru, recorded at various Minneapolis venues over the course of 2009. Cartwright -- longtime leader of Curlew, and owner of a musical c.v. which includes Ornette Coleman, Half Japanese, Alex Chilton and Loren Mazzacane -- can be restlessly melodic or jaggedly guttural on the reeds, although his bedrock lyricism is never far from the surface. Serus playing is a trompe loreille marriage of forward motion and suspended stasis; over the past decade, hes performed with Milo Fine, Paul Metzger and Evan Parker, among others. From the anthemic opening of Titus to the miniature coda of I Think Eudora Knows, Rag is a lively dialogue between two masters of their craft. Released in an edition of 300 copies on colored vinyl, each with a unique cover print by Anne Elias and a digital download coupon." -Roaratorio

Title: Trios for Synthi VCS3 Synthesizer and Turntables
Format: LP
Label: Artkillart
Country: France
Price: $24.00
"Performed by Vincent Epplay and Samon Takahashi. "Composed in 1971. First performed at the Cheltenham Festival, 1971, the composer taking the VCS3 part and Messrs John and Robert Cary (the composers sons) the turntables parts. Trios associates improvisation within a set of defined paramaters. Trios was played for the first time in France since its creation, at the occasion of the Sonorité Festival in Montpellier, September 2006. This record includes a notebook of 4 b/w pages with original score notes, instructions for playing, 16 VCS3 patches, and two 33RPM records on which 2x16 sound events are recorded. About the composer: Tristram Cary (1925-2008) was a pioneering English electronic composer. With Peter Zinovieff and David Cockerell he founded Electronic Music Studios (London) Ltd which created the first portable synthesizer, the VCS3 (1969) and was then involved in production of such distinctive EMS products. About the performers: Vincent Epplay is a visual and sound artist who also composed music for films. His main purpose is to create situations for listening by staging sound and interrogating its mode of distribution and reception. Samon Takahashi is a visual and sound artist based in Paris, France. His practice is devoted to visual art, sound art and music. His work is so-called transdisciplinary using all types of media. His main interests or obsessions concern language, means of communication, pseudo science, architecture, isolated landscapes and classification. There is not a clear style that links his different works but a methodology, a sort of empirical logic, a common skeleton. Numbered edition of 500 copies." -Artkillart

Title: Mag Ik Eens Even In Uw Broek Pissen?
Format: LP
Label: Ultra Eczema
Country: Belgium
Price: $29.00
"Since 69 years Ive been begging Daniel De Wereldvermaarde Botanicus, aka Cassis Cornuta, if I could please start a second record label which only releases recordings from his archive. This Botanics modesty is an absolute exception in times of a overdose of recorded farts, since 1974 CASSIS combines musique concrète, analog synthesizer carpets, weirdo acid, noise, field recordings, tape music, free jazz etc. in a puddle of madness spiced with odd staring, dozens of plants (cacti to be more specific), a encyclopedic knowledge about soundart, and a insane collection of hats! Besides that Daniel does a weekly radioshow on Radio Centraal in Antwerp since 25 years, mainly playing a combination of recycled music, home recordings and a hell lot of noise! This LP is playable on more than 4 different ways, depending on how many extra holes Daniel drilled in each record by hand! Some records contain 3 extra holes, some around 20. None of the LPs have just one hole, that would be selfish. Another beautiful collection of loner synth sound that makes your hangovers or LSD trips worth going for, the strangest beat oriented 303 and 808 acid snoop, and a combination of piss, wind and wood to bring back the good old plunderblur of The New Blockaders. This LP comes in a collaged cover design made with pictures from Daniels archive, with an insert and an extra photo. Limited to 300 copies!" - Ultra Eczema.

Title: Come Into Our House
Format: Dbl LP + 7"
Label: Daffodelic
Country: Netherlands
Price: $33.00
"Deluxe vinyl issue, 2x180 gram vinyl + extra 7" featuring three so-far unreleased exclusive tracks! West Coast psychedelic folkie currently making some of the most dynamic and truly original sounds to emerge from the new freak-folk movement. Gracefully immersing 60s/70s UK acid balladry with Middle Eastern traditional music and communal jams. Castro succeeds in reaching otherworldly vistas and ocean-spanning folk transcendence. He assembled a new band, The Young Elders, a truly stellar cast of musicians who played in folk and avant rock ensembles like Current 93, In Gowan Ring, Cul De Sac and Damo Suzukis Network performing together on an East-meets-West melting pot of instrumentation from acoustic guitar to Celtic harp to Moroccan tabla to nyabinghi drum. A mixing of folk ballads, psychedelic folk rock, Middle Eastern traditional music and Bay Area acid-raga. The result being astonishing, challenging and utterly psychedelic. A modern acid folk masterpiece." -Daffodelic.

Title: Lemniscate
Format: LP
Label: Sonig
Country: Germany
Price: $35.00
"The lemniscate is, fundamentally a mechanism for the infinite. A lemniscus or ribbon that chases itself in a figure of eight describes the repeated and unending journey of the unbounded. Jorinde Voigt draws structures energized by real and imagined possibilities to investigate finite boundaries of systems. She frames and moderates these investigations with spatiotemporal data, information on speed, volume, and an overlaying of sequences. Her notations embrace the concept that elements of equal value co-exist in a logic and proportion of their own. In 2008, following Voigts concepts, composers Patric Catani and Chris Imler, developed the lazy 8 of the infinity motif at Watermill-Center, NYC, a laboratory for performance, in the form of an acoustic cluster. The looped composition formed of 16 chapters, snakes around 7 points realized using a multi-channel arrangement of 6 loudspeakers and thus describes the shape of a lemniscate through pure sound. To enable home listening, the multi-channel installation has been mixed down by the artists as a stereo version. LP in a limited edition of 260 copies." - Sonig.

The smashed glass and freezing cold water swirl around you, shimmering in your eyes, locking your brain into patterns of unrecognition so you stop fighting and drop to the bottom like a mannequin. "Dwell In Possibility is the debut vinyl LP by the formerly active American husband and wife duo Celer, and is also their first release for Blackest Rainbow. Consisting of 15 different sections sprayed across two sides of vinyl, with little if any distinctions, Dwell In Possibility is arranged as a muted patchwork of keyless voices blinded by sunlight, hollow echoes from unlit interiors, and scrolls of unrolled piano tunes. Enclosed in empty shadows, with vague slides of unanswered prayers, these two sides etch a dateless form into weak ends, and pyrrhic dells. Everydays are left empty-handed, and enjoyed only then. Positions change, and rely only on your imagination to wake from this, to sleep, in hope to feel again. Full-colour fold-over pro-printed covers featuring vintage photography. This little (albeit dense) treat features those ex-Atman project-ers, The Magic Carpathians, from Poland. The most collaborative yet, where we find both bands swapping tracks and rearranging pieces and adding new tracks while changing old ones and havin just a regular good old time, here in the land of our mutual imprisonment. Incorporating similar influences as on the Ducks and Drakes split CD with Guapo, Cerberus Shoal brings the flavor of Psychic TV and even Can into the Ash-Ra Temple-esque atmosphere of The Magic Carpathians." - North East Indie.

The Maiming Path extends from the groups previous mind melts with two side long (de)constructions that are assembled from a variety of mangled loops and electronics, guitar feedback/slaughter and cromagnon vocals. The results are a murky stew, as each emerging sound creeps upon the listener like a blackened sloth nightmare. Title: Blue Eyes Of The March
Format: CD
Label: Faraway Press
Country: UK
Price: $28.00
500 copies. "Theres an amazing attention to aesthetics that Andrew Chalk undeniably pays for each release with his name on it. It starts with the music and continues through the cover artwork, packaging, and presentation. The first part of Blue Eyes of the March is a 20 minute long piece which sounds like it was created by a prepared guitar, tuned only to play a limited number of pre-determined notes as theyre quietly plucked and resonate for long stretches. The tones resemble some of those on the Buddha Box, and while the effect is similarly serene and meditative, theres a number of differences that are inherent with the basic natures of the medium. The biggest advantage I think is the ability to amplify the sound and be completely bathed in it, which is something Chalks music always lends itself to. Chalks music is not on a loop, either, and each piece makes a gradual evolution over the time. The second part is an absolutely heavenly 31 minute long piece. Unlike the first part, this one sounds like it was created by piano, yet it echoing in a similar way to the other. The piano tones and treatment are almost reminiscent of some 20+ year old Harold Budd work but while the set notes are very rigid, Chalks playing is quite fluid." - Brainwashed.

Limited to 300 copies pressed on heavyweight vinyl and housed in a silk-screened sleeve and overwrap, the LP, featuring piano from Vicki Jackman is another side to Chalks remarkable discography. Haunted keyboards extending into the distance, like the recent Andrew Liles The Dying Submariner, this piece puts aside the enveloping blankets of drone for a sparser sound, close in spirit to Harold Budd or William Basinski. This is a superb platter of sonic and visual art." - Synaesthesia Records.

Title: Vega
Format: CD
Label: Faraway Press
Country: UK
Price: $28.00
CD reissue of CD-R release from 2005. Beautiful hand-made mini-LP style gatefold sleeve. "Chalk has again walked a very fine line between complete abstraction and conscious identification...Chalk steps a bit differently, proceeds with his sound in a fulfilling fashion, and somehow works with his sound more like a composer than anyone else. I can imagine him toying with his sounds like theyre clay, shaping them to make an architecture or to plan an entire geographic region. Every release Chalk has seems to produce this same effect, this sense of a musician as sculptor. As the album begins the entire sound is bathed in a kind of blind stupor, sounds traveling aimlessly for minutes at a time before the distinct impression of a bell is made clear...The most change occurs in tone, however, elevating the album from a tomb-like sound to the hum of the open air. Conceptually the whole album sounds like a liberation from architecture and a step away from the tight, always very centered sound that Chalk employs. Whatever the case, Vega has that static and rolling sound in its first half and then slowly dissolves, revealing a subterranean process that mightve been working throughout the whole album." - Lucas Schleicher/Brainwashed.

"Chamellows (aka Sleeping Bags) is a project of Laura Naukkarinen (Lau Nau) and the visual artist Mikko Kuorinki. These songs have been recorded some as far back as ten years ago. Some previously released on 50-150 limited edition 7" and cassettes. A rather surprising revelation was to find out how fresh and new they sound today. Almost like a bit demented Moldy Peaches album or The Shaggs at their best. However they are more experimental and they weave amazing melodies and rhythms into songs that will keep playing in your head as much as the top 10 record of the week. But these thank god offer a bit more of a puzzle for your ears!" - Fonal.

"The long-awaited new album from the legendary CHARALAMBIDES, now pared down to the original core duo of CHRISTINA CARTER and TOM CARTER. After having worked out some dark demons with the release of their last album Joy Shapes, the duo has recorded a more melodic song cycle, reminiscent of their earlier albums Union and Market Square. Of particular note is the stunning guitar work Tom displays on the 18-minute instrumental "Black Bed Blues." The bands most cosmic and beautiful release to date." - Kranky.

"A rare document of a brief arc in Charalambides 17 year (and counting) trajectory, somewhere between the extreme spatial attenuation of the long gone Crucial Blast CDR Being As Is and the gentle intergalactic trio sway of the kranky disk Unknown Spin- and quite distance from both the exclamatory exhalations of Joy Shapes and the layered songcraft of Likeness. These are spartan duets of formalistic near-symmetry, a reminder that there was a time when Charalambides swung as close to the axis of Incus and FMP as to that of Takoma and ESP. Christina (voice) and Tom Carter (guitar) improvise non-textual melodic lines around an locus of mirror clarity, occasionally overlapping various strands using two DAT machines and a mixing board, in a nod to the pre ProTools digital scrap heap. Originally issued as a Peter King lathe cut LP on Eclipse Records in an edition of 100 in 2000, the reissue of this extreme rarity is remastered from a superior source for maximum clarity. Inkblot artwork courtesy of Heather Leigh Murray. The whole package is dedicated to Bruce Connor (R.I.P.). "To say that the words unique and singular are over-used in describing music is to state the obvious. To apply these words to the sounds created by the various duo/trio configurations of the Texas group Charalambides over the last decade plus would be understatement. To be sure there are numerous antecedents to their music; to deny this of any artists work would be akin to saying that they are deaf. But they have surely broken new ground in the primitive/folk/mystic/improv/psych valley in which they toil. This new album is certainly not for the faint of heart. Five songs stretch and crawl over 75 minutes, with Christine Carter finding a new fearlessness in her voice that will draw comparisons to Patty Waters or the early work of Meredith Monk. Joy Shapes is the first studio album recorded by Charalambides in a long time." - Kranky. CD also available.

Title: Likeness
Format: CD
Label: Kranky
Country: USA
Price: $13.50
"Likeness is the newest release from the duo of Tom and Christina Carter. Recorded over a period of several weeks during the Spring of 2006, the album is a return to the spontaneous composition of previous Charalambides records such as Houston and Union. With the exception of The Good Life, which appeared in a primitive version on the Wholly Other CDR Home, all of the tracks on this release sprung forth after record was pressed, and were fleshed out via overdubs, editing and a malfunctioning space echo over the course of the next few months. Lyrical content largely derives from public domain, American popular song from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, edited, rearranged and largely deconstructed by Christina into abstract protest songs for the century at hand. Musically, the album departs from the warm psych of A Vintage Burden in favor of the lush and layered vocal strata of Christinas later solo works, and a chillier, more abrasive guitar sound that favors The Velvets over The Byrds. Though containing much of the compositional concision that gave A Vintage Burden much of its appeal, the sound here just as frequently turns the corner into the abstract echoing spaces that characterize the more discordant sounds of Charalambides at the dawn of their Kranky residency." - Kranky.

Title: Our Bed is Green
Format: Double CD
Label: Kranky
Country: USA
Price: $15.50
"Originally released on one cassette by the band in 1992 and later reissued as a limited edition compact disc on their Wholly Other label, Our Bed Is Green was the first release by Charalambides. Although no band is sui generis, anyone who heard the first recordings by Charalambides in 1992 could have been forgiven for thinking that of the duo. Our Bed Is Green was a recording that roped in folk, improvisation, psychedelia, blues and gospel into a crackling sound world unlike any other. Ranging across a 90 minute cassette and produced at home on four track, the music had only the means of production in common with the so-called lo-fi scene of the time.  On their debut, Charalambides achieved the distinct otherness they retain to this day." - Kranky.

Title: Rose/Thorn
Format: LP
Label: Eclipse
Country: USA
Price: $21.00
"Long-, long-, long-, loooooong-awaited and singular entry in the Charalambides and Klang Industries discographies; one of those does it really exist? items thats finally seeing daylight, or moonlight. A stark, unsettling and beautiful slice of duo Charlambides invocation/incantation, taken from the period between Jason Bill and Heather Leigh Murrays tenures with the band and featuring extraordinary chord organ and vocal work from Christina and some signature lap steel mastery from Tom. Fans of the bands most recent, more song-based work will find this relevatory, long-time listeners will say ahhhh and settle in for the flight. Heavy vinyl, limited pressing, cover handiwork by Tom, the first release in years from Klang and a sign perhaps of a truly epic revival." "Long-awaited Klang debut of Charalambides. This record has been brewing since 2000, and is now finally available under the auspices of Eclipse/Klang. Two side-long improvisations in much the same vein as IN CR EA SE, a bit more topographical perhaps, but still horizontally serene and horizonless. Chord organ, lap steel, vocals." --Wholly Other.

"new release of eldritch origin featuring historic recordings of two nearly-complete sets from the "market square"-era charalambides lineup, featuring the core duo of tom & christina carter + jason bill. one side is from the cooler, NYC, at the 1995 CMJ fest (swirling vox sound courtesy kurt wolf), where strapping fieldhands got their fender twin stolen, and bill orcutt & i witnessed the unrepentant use of string-eze by the gtrist from cobra verde. the other side is from the 1994 siltbreeze festival at the khyber pass in philly. both sets consist of freak-rock tracks from "market square" & "strangle the wretched heavens," heavy on analog atmosphere & ecstatic/blown-out gtr/vox interconnectivity." - Two-Lane Blacktop

"Christina Carter and Tom Carter have been recording and performing as Charalambides since 1991. Unknown Spin is the first in a series of reissues of Charalambides material on Kranky. Originally issued by the bands Wholly Other imprint in a CD-R pressing of 300 [with a track by Scorces], Unknown Spin is now available to a wider audience and will remain in print. Since their first self released cassette, Our Bed Is Green, Charalambides have shown themselves to be inheritors of the Texas psychedelic tradition, channellers of the American primitivist instinct, luminescent improvisers and creators of indescribable wonders. Now their music can be appreciated without anyone having to bid for a limited supply of CD-Rs online." - Kranky.

"Second CD by this group featuring Chie Mukai. The sound is a very advanced, mature/classic form of "rock," with guitars, piano, bass, drums and streaming, evocative vocals from Mukai. Hard to classify, theres a non-cliched slant to their music that one almost never experiences in the horrific corridors of near-rock. Surreal dreamscapes, perfectly realized."

"Live material from Chie Mukais group, recorded in 1981, who play "ambient psychedelic music... includes Tori Kudo, leader of Maher Shalal Hash Baz." From Alan Cummingss "Japanese Psychedelia Primer" in The Wire: ""The dream-pop psych unit Ché-Shizu are one of the rare examples of a traditional Japanese instrument (in this case, the three-stringed kokyu bowed fiddle) being used in a psychedelic context. Nazareth is a sometimes shambling compilation of their live recordings and features the fascinatingly atonal sound of Chie Mukais kokyu drifting through the cracks of conventional melody. The groups interest in traditional English folk music is just one more indication of the breadth and complexity of underground Japans continuing interaction with the West."" - FE.

"Metz, France seems to be teeming with great bands these days. Anals, Feeling of Love, Dreams, and A.H. Kraken are just the tip of this incredibly huge Metz iceberg. Many of these bands share members, but they all have their very own sound. CHEVEUs sound is similar to the aforementioned bands in their abrasive, weird punk base, but this group more obliviously influenced by the Fall than any of their peers. Their debut LP on S-S sold very well and is currently out-of-print. Heres another LP full of previously unreleased tracks of weird punk greatness" - Permanent.

Price: $8.00
"Hans Chews skill as a piano player has previously been on display both in a complementary fashion to Jack Rose (appearing as a member of Jacks live backing band at Arthurdesh as well as on both The Black Dirt Sessions and Luck in the Valley) and as a integral member of D. Charles Speer & the Helix (including his vocal turns on both Life Insurance off Distillation and Bar-Abbas Blues off the In Madagascar 7"). This new single offers an expanded glimpse at not only Chews songwriting prowess but also his powerful boogie-blues, bar-rockin piano skills. Both tracks presented on this 7" are slated to appear on Chews debut album, Tennessee and Other Stories, but appear in different versions exclusive to this release. The 7" itself is a vivid picture disc bearing stunning shots by Jake Cunningham and comes from a limited edition of 500 copies. This record is a joint release between Three Lobed and Divide By Zero." - 3 Lobed.

Artist: CHIARI/DANIELE LOMBARDI, GIUSEPPE
Title: +/-
Format: LP + CD
Label: Die Schachtel
Country: Italy
Price: $60.00
"LP+CD special limited edition release by Fluxus composer Giuseppe Chiari and Futurist pianist Daniele Lombardi. Each LP is hand-numbered, and contains two art prints by Giuseppe Chiari, housed in a very original fold-out cover. The CD is hand-numbered and signed by Daniele Lombardi. The total selling copies of the bundle edition are limited to 130. Giuseppe Chiari was one of the leading names associated first with Fluxus (being the only Italian member of the interdisciplinary art group since 1962) and later with conceptual and performance art as well as sound art. Coming from a background of different disciplines, he established new theoretical and practical standpoints in relation to music and art: his approach was always irreverent, walking the tightrope between to do or not to do, to say or not to say, while continually challenging the limits of language. The Die Schachtel vinyl LP (titled +/-) features some of his previously-unreleased and most intense pieces for piano, the musical instrument par excellence and emblem of conformist sound with which Giuseppe Chiari has a love-hate relationship, bestowing on it equal measures of ridicule and praise. It is also an amazing document of his last concert, with Frederic Rzewski (playing the 1964 groundbreaking piece "La Strada"), Giancarlo Cardini, Daniele Lombardi and Giuseppe Chiari himself. The limited CD edition by Daniele Lombardi, published on the occasion of his solo exhibition at MUDIma Foundation in Milan (2008), is the reissue of a 1978 piano sound exploration entitled Costellazione, based upon a map of sky constellations, planned as the first step in a large work focused on the exposition and "performance" of constellations maps, planetaria and maps of the heavens. It is a perfect counterpoint to the Chiari Edition, and it is housed in a custom-made, silk-screened natural cardboard case, inserted in the fold-out cover together with the LP. " - Die Schachtel.

"Chico Magnetic Bands eponymous album, released by French Vogue subsidiary Box Office label in 1971, defines the term heavy Psychedelia. These bunch of freaks, lead by Algerian born Mahmoud Chico Ayari were clearly influenced by the Jimi Hendrix Experience but somehow they created a song of their own: violent, trashy, stoned as hell heavy psych featuring demented vocals, furious guitars, loud rhythm section and mindblowing studio effects including phasing, backward tapes, weird and groovy electronics. Eight killer tracks including their insane fuzzed-out deconstruction of Hendrixs Crosstown Traffic and cult classics like Pop Pull Hair, Explosion, Pop Orbit. This reissue includes a good number of bonus tracks (a total of 8 on the CD making their complete recordings). Features an insert with full band story and rare photos. "Alone Together is the debut release from Childrens Hospital. If their despondent sounds remind you of something you may have once heard its because this is the latest project from the A-Frames/Intelligence/Rodent Plague/afcgt axis. Reminiscent of the brooding and gray skyline of their hometown of Seattle the duo hover between abstract soundscape compositions, Jandek inspired bouts of melancholy droned out dementia, and stripped apart abrasive punk...often combining several of these forms at once. If recent Rodent Plague releases on Killshaman and Jerkave Tapes are any indication it would be ill-advised to sleep on Childrens Hospital. " - Sacred Bones.

Artist: CHILDREN OF THE SIXTH ROOT RACE
Title: Songs From The Source
Format: CD
Label: Drag City
Country: USA
Price: $13.50
"Songs From The Source is a lost-and-found 1973 recording of The Source family. These twelve songs were recorded live in the Hollywood Hills as a rehearsal for a concert date that Spirit of 76 -- aka YaHoWaH 13, The Savage Sons of YaHoWa, Yodship, and FireWaterAir, now known as Children of the Sixth Root Race -- had at the Whisky. A 1/4" tape copy of the recording was found in Chicago in 2006, though no one is really sure how it got there. Djin Aquarian, rhythm guitarist and songwriter for Spirit of 76, recalls being sent on a mission to Chicago later in 1973, where he believes he left the tape with an old friend. Djin wrote most of the songs in the year before he joined with The Source, as part of his solo mystical quest to help enlighten the world before it might annihilate itself, adding, Im glad both the album and the world are still here. Though this rehearsal wasnt meant to be released at the time, there are probably no other recordings as complete of the band doing these songs. The Spirit of 76 had a different sound than the one YaHoWaH 13 made with Yahowa. Songs From The Source has more rnb-grooved energy, with splashes of synth and organ, a female vocal chorus and streamlined fusion rhythms backing the uniquely Yahowan lyrical populism of songs like Godmen and Lost Dead But Hoping. The ebullient, ever-climbing power of the climactic We Are the Dinosaurs, has few analogues in the other Source recordings and is furthermore an outstanding piece of music from the entire era. Songs From The Source is a miraculous missing piece of The Sources positive musical movement. The members of YaHoWaH 13 (Djin, Sunflower on bass, Octavius on drums) were joined by family members Ahom, Aquariana, Cinderella, Rhythm, Vibration, and Zoroaster on lead guitar, to create the ecstatic sound of Spirit of 76. In summing up, Djin told us, I know Father is behind this redeeming of the Spirit of 76 album and up to his old tricks again... Yahowha." -Drag City

Title: Sound of the Westway
Format: LP
Label: Slumberland/ Mississippi
Country: USA
Price: $15.00
"Chin Chin, an all-female group, was formed in 1982 in Biel, Switzerland. At the time experience wasnt needed, a desire to play was. Technical ability was a bonus, a hunger to perform a must. Musically, the band had many influences: The Clash, The Ramones, X-Ray Spex, Blondie, Generation X, Siouxsie & The Banshees, David Bowie, Motown, 1960s girl groups and glam rock bands like T-Rex and Slade. Although Chin Chin saw themselves as a punk rock band, catchy pop vocals and harmonies played a big part in their songs, setting them apart from their contemporaries. Chin Chins first and only 7-inch We Dont Wanna Be Prisoners was released in the summer of 1984 on the bands label Farmer Records, making Chin Chin one of the only all-female bands in Switzerland writing their own material, playing regular gigs and releasing records. In 1985, Sound of the Westway was released on Farmer, containing twelve original compositions recorded and mixed in just seven days. Its a brilliant mix of punk-informed crunch and buoyant pop melody that shows Chin Chin to be true pioneers of DIY noisy pop. After a hugely successfu German tour with The Shop Assistants, the band released the Stop Your Crying EP on Scotlands legendary 53rd and 3rd label. Sound of the Westway has gone on to become one of the most sought-after 80s indie-pop records and for good reason. Tunes like "Dark Days" and "Stay With Me" still sound remarkably fresh today; the bands fierce DIY stance and girl-positive ethics have echoed down through indie music since. Slumberland is very pleased to join the estimable Mississippi Records in bringing this classic album back into print, on vinyl only and with new mastering and artwork. Limited to 1,000 copies." - Slumberland.

"From Biel Switzerland, comes this little known group. One of the few all-girl bands (along with KLEENEX/LILLIPUT) to come out of the early 80s Swiss punk scene. CHIN CHIN definitely considered  themselves a punk band. Although their catchy pop vocals and harmonies strongly aligned them with the burgeoning C86 scene. They shared bills with THE SHOP ASSISTANTS, TELEVISION PERSONALITIES, THE POGUES and NEW MODEL ARMY, before the band drifted into obscurity. This 7" was originally released in 1984 on the bands own, Farmer Records. It contains 3 self-penned songs and marks their first and punkest release. Keep your eyes peeled for their full length LP out soon as a split between the Mississippi and Slumberland labels." - Mississippi.

Artist: CHINESE RESTAURANT
Title: River of Shit
Format: 7"
Label: SS
Country: USA
Price: $6.50
"Like a child captured by wolves, the Chinese Restaurants might live in New York City, but they really dont have a home. Though their roots are the Tucson, Arizona garage punk scene (home of the Fells!), LF Restaurant (AKA Acapulco Rodriguez) and Keith Restaurant (ne Redgerson) started the band long distance, from posts in Albany, New York and rural Connecticut. With Keiths 11 year old Garfield-loving brother on drums, they threw song ideas over the phone and would play impromptu shows -- often without rehearsing -- including one via conference call. (When playing over 21 venues the Restaurants recruited Bunnybrains genius Malcolm Tent to play drums.) Of course, the sound was pure chaos, but over time and with infusions of American underground sounds like Beefheart, the Sun City Girls, and various Euro art pranksters the Restaurants started to find themselves. A name change to The North American Free Jazz Agreement lead to a Euro tour and an opening slot for Arthur Doyle. And it should probably be expected that the next step for our Restaurants was to reemerge as a grotesque, sexually inappropriate Doors cover band. Come 2010 and the Chinese Restaurants are finally committing themselves to vinyl. With the help of sonic saboteur Mattin (Billy Bao, Josetxo Grieta, NMM), the Restaurants created River of Shit, an underground state of the state of the nation of sorts. A deft commentary on the Age of Obama or just another smart ass prank, we dont know, but it sounds good. And the flip of Work is a Drag and Queen of the Skanks is a skanking sludge fest that would do both Flipper and No Trend proud. S.S. is very happy to say that we served the first helping of Chinese Restaurants." - SS.

Artist: CHOPIN, HENRI
Title: Revue OU
Format: 4CD/Book
Label: Alga Marghen
Country: Italy
Price: $112.00
"Alga Marghen proudly presents a new edition of the already historical Chopins Revue OU. All the original contents (4CDs + book + complete inserts) have also been included here, but presented now in a more modern and flexible way. The first press heavy boxset had been substituted with a lighter and colour slipcase while many important details and info about the contents of this anthology (missing in the original layout) are presented on a new colour obi." Incredible that this has been reissued again, at a slightly cheaper cost even! Miraculously over-the-top presentation of Henri Chopins famous sound-poetry "magazine", issued on 4CDs (or 6 LPs -- a few copies of the original LP reissue box still available). "Since the end of the fifties, Henri Chopin, an explorer in the new recorded sound poetry field, has never ceased, through hid own work as well as through his publishing activities (Revue OU, a magazine with record from 1963 to 1974) to defend the electronic exploration of the voice and the body. If Henri Chopins Revue OU is such a remarkable publication, then this is surely because it is one of the truly -- and most authentically -- contemporary publications of its time. Yet at first sight, the word contemporary seems to offer a rather simplistic description of such a visionary publication as Chopins OU. When we consider in the general cultural context of the sixties, for example, arent all mid-century art publications generally contemporary in one way or another? And when considered in terms of most other poetry publications of the sixties, doesnt Chopins OU clearly stand out as one of the most significant experimental or avant-garde publications of the mid-century? As Chopin observes, he considered the sound poetry published on the records in OU to be a distinctively new form of art. On one hand sound poetry constitutes an almost archetypal practice, but on the other hand sound poetry also emerges from the very sources of recording technology by means of its use of electro-magnetics. As this collection of CDs (remastered under the supervision of Henri Chopin) reissuing the complete Revue OU records indicates, Chopins most striking achievement was to consistently identify and publish the first major works of many of the most visionary transatlantic artists exploring the new recording technologies of the fifties, sixties and seventies. Far from attempting to establish any monodimensional movement, Chopin characteristically championed a wide veriety of those poets, writers and composers whom he perceived to be in movement, and whom he subsequently applauds as Fabulous Independents. Following an editorial logic of selectively eclectic inclusion, Chopins OU records published an astonishing diversity of inter-generational and international experiments. These include intense electronic readings by William Burroughs and Brion Gysin; pioneering optophonetic works by the Dadaist Raoul Hausmann; crirythmes and vocalic improvisations by François Dufrene and Gil J Wolman; fragmentary poemes-partitions by Bernard Heidsieck; high-tech text-sound works by composers such as Ake Hodell and Sten Hanson; electronic abstractions by Bengt Emil Johnson; phonetic poems by Mimmo Rotella; handy tech performances on self-built electronic instruments by Hugh Davies; haunting tape-manipulations by Ladislav Novak; playful improvisations by Bob Cobbing with Anna Lockwood; dramatic monologues by Paul de Vree; electronic concrete music by Jacques Bekaert and -- of course -- Chopins dynamic orchestrations of the bodys factory of corporeal sounds. Chopins writings equally consistently championed the electronic language revolution facilitated by what he describes as technological means which extend the human body, thereby inaugurating an enormous expansion of human expression. Many manifestos and theoretical texts, as well as original photos, have been published in a 76 page book. Also included are 30 fold-out black and white OU inserts reproducing the original scores of the audio works featured on the 4 CDs (by Chopin, Heidsieck, de Vree, Davies, Cobbing, Bekaert) as well as graphic works by John Cage, Tom Phillips, Arrigo Lora-Totino, Michel Seuphor, Ben Vautier, Stefan Themerson, Richard Orton, Pierre Albert-Birot." - Alga Marghen.

"Lessee...walking down Robson...hot summer day. Never go near that street usually, but woke up in some dudes penthouse near Hooters. I woke up, grabbed a shirt off the floor and put it on...and some sunglasses...and a leftover Heneiken from the fridge. Tiptoed out, stepping over the sleeping bodies on the floor. Now Im outside in the part of town that most needs a firebombing....and the sun is so...fucking...bright! Still stoned...no cash in pocket. Had enough money for a dollar store keyring that reads "Take me to Yr Dealer" with a drawing of an Alien smoking a joint. Bought it and immediately afterwards wished I bought a hot dog instead. Hot dogs. Swamps. Tex Watson. To my right theres an Asian businessman eating a hot dog. Drank the Heinenken down in one long drink. My minds in the everglades. Format: CD
Label: Die Schachtel
Country: Italy
Price: $17.50
"Christa Pfangen are Andrea Belfi and Mattia Coletti. The name is an homage to Nico, although the music has obviously no relation with the icon of the New York avant garde scene. They belong to the new electroacoustic/improv/avant-rock scene which is taking shape in Italy and includes such names as 3/4 Had Been Eliminated, Valerio Tricoli, ÿ, Stefano Pilia and others. Working with percussion, treated guitar and an array of different objects and noises, they have given birth to a dynamic work of great beauty and reverberating rhythms, oscillating between avant-folk and electroacoustic music." - Die Schachtel.

Country: USA
Price: $12.00
"Summer 06 Family Underground (DK) recorded with Dave Nuss of NNCK at Black Dirt Studios in the woods of upstate NY. The yield was as characteristically unhinged as one might expect: sweeping electronic sounds backed with wood and bone percussion spirit-conjure. However also harvested was some new and especially tasty crop: sung and spoken song, electric guitar/conga "rock," and an odd ghostly sheen coating the entire proceeding. Nuss comments on the session: "I remember when we were recording, momentarily leaving the studio and going out into the night and feeling it thicken like a partition separating us from this intense state of clear consciousness we had in the recording, which was like⿦ humankinds natural state. And then thinking about Jesper from FU, an adopted Vietnamese living in DK, and how much he resembles Michael Jackson, and realizing that across continents no man can be divided from himself. We had to make this music to provide for us some fantasy of fulfillment that would carry us through the weekend like rejuvenated suns born again climbing to heaven, after being washed in the deepest bluest sea⿦." Title: Op.39 Fluxorum Organum
Format: Double LP
Label: Eventuell
Country: Germany
Price: $52.00
"In 1967 Henning Christiansen proposed to Joseph Beuys that he, Christiansen, composes a major work for organ titled fluxorum organum for Beuyss planned Aktion Eurasienstab. Beuys and Christiansen agreed to structure fluxorum organum in five sections. Henning Christiansen composed a piece with five movements. The organist Franz Meiswinkel played the composition on the organ in Düsseldorfs Liebfrauenkirche. Henning Christiansen recorded the entire performance with a manipulated tape machine. The first Eurasienstab Aktion took place in 1967 in Vienna at the Galerie Nächst St. Stephan. There the final tape version fluxorum organum was played. In 1968 there was a repeat performance at the Wide White Space gallery in Antwerp. There was a film made of the performance, which, however, remained a fragment and included only the first and a bit of the second part of Christiansens composition. The film fragment is only about 20 minutes long. In the summer of 2008 Henning Christiansen gave me some old tapes with the complete recordings of his composition Eurasienstab -- fluxorum organum. Marcus Schmickler restored and remastered these tapes at Piethopraxis Studio, Cologne. On the recordings the actual playing times differ from the instructions in the score. The total duration of this recording is 72 47". -- from the liner notes by Ursula Block / gelbe MUSIK. Comes with two booklets, reprints of the original notation (15 pp.) as well as typewritten annotations (5 pp.) by Christiansen, limited edition of 450 copies. Debut album by Bob Brydens (Reign Ghost) "dream band", which was first released on Paragon in 1970 the same day as the second Reign Ghost album! Dreamy and atmospheric, with lovely vocals and understated guitar work suffused with a melancholic lethargy every bit the match of that of the Velvet Undergrounds third album, a comparison all the more telling once you hear the ambitious 21-minute instrumentalJungle Fabulous that closes out the proceedings. A great event for psychedelic fans worldwide!" - Timothys Brain. Highly recommended!

Price: $17.00
"Following releases on such labels as Kranky, 12K and Community Library, "Far Flung Hum⿝, the third album from New York based Christmas Decorations, finds the group again broadening the palette used in their unique take on modern experimental electronic music. Conjured in the Catskill Mountains of upstate New York over four days in summer 2007, the album is their boldest work to date. Including founding members Steve Silverstein and Nick Forte (formerly of Beautiful Skin, Rorschach, and solo work on Schematic records), the band has expanded to a quartet allowing for more interactive live playing then on past efforts. With scant preconception, the band used this session to explore group improvisational configurations and unconventional voicings, yielding a richness that at times even surprised themselves. Recorded both indoors and out,  the sound of ⿿Far Flung Hum⿝ is both warmly present and otherworldly, think early Zoviet France or maybe Asmus Teichens remixing a Finnish folk collective.  Acoustic banjo and pump organ drones meld with pedal-processed ethnic percussion, subtly treated guitar washes, and pointillistic analog synthesis, to create deep compositions that chart unexpected terrain and reveal new layers upon each listen. limited to 200 copies, hand made letterpressed covers, self released"-Wodger

"Hailing from sunny San Diego, California, Christmas Island plays music that on the surface is happy and poppy. There is a dark undercurrent to their brand of lo-fi pop punk-it is joyous and almost twee while secretly depressed and deeply disturbed. Citing Tronics, Urinals, Television Personalities, The Clean, Versatile Newts, and The Fall as influences, Christmas Island is Beach Boys-style, sunny Southern Californian pop by way of the late-70s / early-80s UK DIY scene." -In The Red.

Alien Soundtracks is the first of their releases that would later mark them as early innovators of post-punk industrial experimentalism. "Originally released in 1979 on Siren/Beggars Banquet, Half Machine Lip Moves is Chromes third album and is considered an absolute classic of raw punk/experimental genius, authored by the duo of Helios Creed and Damon Edge."-Noiseville "Half Machine Lip Moves was a curious and powerful hybrid, which fused a Stooges-styles aggression with a sci-fi and LSD-inspired otherworldliness, reflected in titles that evidenced their interest in aliens and contemporary technology. This album was arguably their finest moment ... Creeds searing, heavily FX-laden guitar and Edges eerie Moog and vocals, underpinned by metallic drums, came together to create what could have become a radical new departure point for a nascent form of post-rock." -The Wire; "One of my Personal Top 25 albums of all time, this is certainly one of those records you can keep returning to and find new things buried in all those layers of ZOUND." -Julian Cope.

Title: Third From The Sun
Format: CD
Label: Noiseville
Country: USA
Price: $17.00
"Noiseville is very proud to have the chance to reissue these absolutely must-have traces of interstellar psych perfection from San Franciscos legendary Chrome. The sound was beefed up, and each was repackaged with the original art from their initial release back in the early 80s. These 3 albums (Alien Soundtracks, Half Machine Lip Moves, Third From The Sun) are classics and should never have gone out-of-print. But due to fighting within the band, these CDs will not be repressed and most unfortunately, the LP counterparts never made it past the test pressing stage, until the dispute has been settled by the courts, this is it." Third From The Sun was originally released on Siren Records in 1982, right before the bands break-up, with Damon Edge and Helios Creed chuddering out creepy post-garage industrial murk. Third From The Sun sounds more conventional rock than their prior releases, while still maintaining the garbage-y, weird-space psychonaut vibe that would be their trademark. Grinding guitars, terrifyingly creepazoid vocals, and a bass that sounds like rocks thudding off of someones head." -Noiseville

Format: Cass

Price: $8.00
"Cassette release. Edition of 250 copies. Masterminded by Terre Thaemlitz and "fresh... for 96!" -- Memphistophelis by Chugga (aka Lester Fuero and Jeff Hanes) is a deliciously dated blend of trip-hop, 70s disco, funk, Jeep-dub and lounge, mixed well and served chilled. Each track on Memphistophelis picks up on a different 70s sound while tying in that unique Memphis combination of sparsity and orchestration. The album was mastered by an unlikely culprit -- and friend -- transgendered electro-acoustic/ambient/house Jack-of-all-genres Terre Thaemlitz (aka DJ Sprinkles). Although it was shopped around and two or three cuts trickled out over the years on obscure vinyl and compilation releases, Memphistophelis never found a home -- until The Tapeworm." -The Tapeworm

Title: Untitled
Format: LP
Label: QBICO
Country: Italy
Price: $24.00
Phil Legard, Alexander Neilson, Tirath Singh Nirmala, and Phil Todd. Recorded in Leeds, December 2005. Originally released as a CD-R limited to 100 copies. Collaborations can be a hell of a gamble. Fortunately, it seems that in the world of the underground music lover, collaborative ventures always seem to turn out to be synergetic exercises that yield amazing results. Churinga Canaries is such an endeavor: a one-off group effort improvised by four of the brightest lights in the UK underground music dog-and-pony show. A rundown of the participants should be more than enough to cause many of you to drool with excitement. Phil Legard (Xenis Emputae Travelling Band), Alex Neilson (Scatter, Richard Youngs collaborator, etc.), Tirath Singh Nirmala (formerly John Clyde-Evans of Hood) and Phil Todd (Ashtray Navigations) assembled in Leeds in chilly December 2005 to bang out some noise and melt the ice right out from under themselves with a warm bowl of sonic porridge. The results are two stunning long-form tracks of joyful jazz-inflected psych-noise in the vein of some of the wilder Ash Nav moments. Neilsons propulsive yet amazingly free drumming serves as the perfect background for the virtual maelstrom conjured up by the other three improvisers. About five minutes into the leading track, Under Heavy Rent, the sound is so dense and chaotic that its almost dizzying. The foursome manage to keep themselves and their sound from breaking apart into a million tiny pieces, but just barely. A Sovtek Swirl starts off subdued, with a recurring thematic element gluing the shards of our dumbstruck minds back together again. By the time the disc is finished however, youll be left panting in a useless heap on the floor. This is powerful stuff, not to be taken lightly. Dont say I didnt warn you!" - Byron Hayes (from July 2006 Review of the CD-R by Foxy Digitalis)

It includes the legendary Dialoghi del Presente 1977 LP along with several unreleased tracks; liner notes by Jim ORourke. 24 pages booklet." From ORourkes liner notes: "These recordings sound as they feel self contained, introspective, and determined, you can feel in the music a sort of necessity that can be rarely found, as in Bill Fays Time of the Last Persecution or in Nick Drakes Pink Moon: this enormous weight that is bearing on its creators, the absolute need to exorcise it from their lives, a moment in time where you are invited to hear artists truly in contact with their existence. Luciano Cilio holds that moment in time, an authentic emotional testament, something to be cherished..." - Die Schachtel. Title: Andexelt
Format: CD
Label: Tumult
Country: USA
Price: $13.00
"Finally back in print!! Americas original introduction to the masters of Finnish hypno-rock, Circle! Originally released on Finnish weird-prog label Metamorphos, Andexelt was the first Circle release widely available outside of Finland, released in the states on tUMULt in 2000. Out of print for years Andexelt is now available again. Nine tracks of droning, hypnotic neo-Kraut rock from one of our absolute all-time favorite bands. Finlands Circle are the northernmost heirs to the Krautrock tradition, taking basic riffs, stretching and reshaping them, creating bleak, ever-shifting underwater grooves and dizzyingly repetitive rhythms, sounding like an otherworldly This Heat or a more damaged Can. A mesmerising wall of sound delivered with the sheer force of Loop or Godflesh, but with dark precision and melodic restraint. Mellow, delicate, jazzy passages intersect with crushing Bonham-esque beats. Fans of Salvatore and Tortoise and Mogwai and Trans Am and all other practitioners of epic bombastic hypno-rock or hypnotic math rock should definitely check this Finnish combos ability to out-post most post-rock bands and out-space most spacerock bands. Includes a bonus 10-minute track and a kick ass secret track not on the original Metamorphos version." - Tumult.

Following around ten years since their previous (and only) release for Fourth Dimension (the now o/p Ghatarian 7"), this apocalyptic Finnish avant-metal/improv/folk/neu-prog group return with a special live radio session originally recorded for WFMU during their October 2005 U.S. tour. Possibly one of their best, most blissed-out records yet. Featuring two long workouts and wrapped in a Spaghetti Western sleeve. Perfect. Title: Arkades
Format: LP
Label: Fourth Dimension
Country: UK
Price: $22.00
"Arkades catches a session Finnish group, CIRCLE, recorded exclusively for WFMU during their US tour, September 19, 2005. Comprising two lengthy pieces taking up a side each, "The Greatest Kingdom" and "The Ghost of the Highway," the record focuses on the bands often spacy improv underpinning and applies new meaning to a vision which strides powerfully over the line dividing apocalyptic dread from a semblance of hope. Agonized wailing, screams and torrents of molten sound dance ghostly shapes over psychedelic keyboard patterns, distant clattering, moonlit guitars and a rhythm section so carefully tempered that its impossible not to feel the chemistry at work. Coupled to a fantastic sleeve which illustrates a homage to spaghetti western films and includes fitting notes by WFMUs Program Director, BRIAN TURNER, Arkades proves what these New Wave of Finnish Heavy Metallers are capable of when they leave most of the rock at the door. File somewhere near Acid Mothers Temple after having been given the kinda makeover only the Scandinavians have the formula for. Indeed, this is sweet shit." - Fourth Dimension.

"Circle is a band whose sound is constantly evolving. That evolution continues with Earthworm, a four song EP released on the eve of their third US tour. Earthworm finds the band further integrating their love of late seventies/early eighties metal with the circular Kraut-influenced psych that has become their trademark. The songs on Earthworm are heavy and dense with guitar riffs that shred, backed by the intense and hypnotic rhythm section of bassist Jussi Lehtisalo and drummer Tomi Leppanen. The band has invited Bruce Duff (singer of the legendary LA band Jesters of Destiny) to contribute vocals on three tracks." - No Quarter.

Format: Double LP
Label: Fourth Dimension
Country: UK
Price: $24.00
"Yet another vinyl-only release by Finlands finest export for Fourth Dimension, following an affiliation that takes in the now out of print Arkades LP and equally almost sold out 2CD reissue of it and, indeed, goes back to 1995, when we released a (now rare/collectable) 7", Ghatarian. As with the original Arkades LP, this release gathers recordings for a session at WFMU, this time recorded during their second US tour and captured live on the 25th September 2007. Spread over the four sides are the six cuts which made up Circles second session for WFMU, once more capturing the self-proclaimed new wave of Finnish heavy metal outfit proving themselves to be almost everything but heavy metal despite possessing the only too apparent ability to compete with the best amongst that world. Taking in operatic vocals, unearthly mulch, psychedelic splurge, nods towards folk and Krautrock, and mammoth riffs capable of knocking down nearby buildings, avant-rock has rarely arrived both so potent and in dire need of a straitjacket before. The new wave of Finnish heavy metal is positively bursting with ideas like nothing else." -Fourth Dimension

Country: France
Price: $22.00
"Circle X new release! An unreleased live by this legendary cult no-wave NY band after the group disbanded in 1995. In around fifteen years existence since their formation in 1978, the history of Circle X can be divided in 2 parts and for each, with few but always powerful releases: the late 70s / early 80s with 2 singles + 1 vinyl LP, and for the second one: 4 singles, 1 CD and 1 mini CD for the early until mid-90s. Today, its a great delight to see the first official Circle X live album. And what a document! The Circle X historical concert at the University of Dijon, the first gig in France at their debut in 1979 when the group was established in that city. The performance of the band that night was short but truly outstanding. A very, very, high tension.... No need to say more!!! The players were: Dave Letendre on drum, Rik Letendre on guitar, Tony Pinotti on vocal and Bruce Witsiepe on guitar. The present 10" vinyl edition also includes 3 unreleased bonus tracks with the first studio version of Beyond Standard (1979) and 2 other studio tracks from the last period (1994), plus insert with liner notes by Rik Letendre and some rare photos. The sound quality isnt perfect but good enough for make this object acceptable and valid. In fact, you have here, 30 years later, the real first Circle X record like it had to be released at that time!! Well, call it like you want.. but its already and obviously a fantastic and an essential release." -Fractal

Price: $22.00
"Formed 1978 in New York, Circle X was born out of the ashes of No Fun and the I-Holes as Louisvilles first punk rock band. Once the lineup of Circle X solidified, the formerly-punk band lunged headfirst into weirder, artier territory. Whether the big citys burgeoning No Wave scene influenced Circle X or they influenced the scene is unclear; what is clear, though, is that Circle X was the most unique, most mysterious, and most un-heralded band hailing from that place and time. In France for nine months with new manager Bernard Zekri, Circle X toured from their base in Dijon, garnering strong press and stronger public reaction while writing new material as they went. An untitled four-song EP saw the light of day in 1979. That untitled 12-inch debut was practically without antecedent. Its a lurching, squalling monster. Identified only by a symbol on the cover (a spray-painted circle with an "X" through it; the spelled-out name first appeared in 83), it pits Pinottis screeched vocals against Witsiepe and the Letendres bass-less, barely contained distorto-blare. The hatred and rage on this thing is palpable and when it coalesces perfectly with the music, as it does on the lead track, Tender, its pretty damn effective. Nothing sounded like this in 1979. They arrived in New York at the tail end of No Wave, at the same time that equally ornery bands like Swans and Sonic Youth were getting revved up. Circle X are every bit as distinctive and attitudinal as Throbbing Gristle, PiL, Theoretical Girls, DNA, or Mars, yet they dont much sound like any of them. We proudly represent this masterpiece after thirty years again for the public. It has lost none of its intensity and rage. Limited to 500 copies, its on 180 gram vinyl in tip-on jackets that bear the original artwork and poly lined black inner sleeve plus liner notes." - Insolito.

The A-side finds right alongside contemporaries like Zola Jesus or US Girls, while the flip find hers doing a torchy folk number that showcases her voice in a way that no previous work has. Hand-numbered edition of just 300. Green vinyl in a glued pocket color sleeve with silkscreened vellum obi strip." - Dull Knife.

"From a small town in the middle of the land of milk and honey, where the air is filled with the blossoming of the fruit trees for a big part of the year, comes these perfect little lilies of bands that make perfect little records that reflect this fertile and flowery region. its a timeless land, and making records there is possible during this surely short period of history wherein the youth of this era feel as if theyve solved the mystery of life and love and its really loving that is the answer to everything. all of which has nothing at all to do with circuit des yeux and sirenum, which was made in indiana, and there arent exactly pipers at the gates of lafayette. sound? its the sound of "issues", and the sound of "troubles". you dont get but one phone call and honey, the girls voice makes this message a bit rubbly anyway. take the manic snorts of captain liberty, dissonant as chalk and the next moment as melodic as sharp yet slick, metal teeth. take the mermaid, 1988, turn the tides, gently, gently away. selected breath / silences / selected feedback. take an argument you have here with an empty street while the memory of high traffic is leaking back. sirenum has a real "spiritual food" vibe and its fucking pain and pleasure relief in this real met en zonder sort of way. this world is her world, and pipe if you like it ..." -DeStijl

"This is both bands first 7-inch record and they chose to (selflessly) pay homage to GALAXIE 500. CLOUDLAND CANYON (Holy Mountain, Kranky, Tee Pee) steps out from behind the curtain to reveal just a little bit about themselves and their influences. Galaxie 500 filled the gap between the Velvet Underground and the American branch of shoegaze, exemplified by the Lilys, Ropers, Slumberland Records (etc.). Cloudland Canyon has taken Galaxy 500s "Temperatures Rising" (from Today), along with all of these aforesaid influences, and pushed them further out, out, out into outer space. How can you stare at your shoes when youre this far out? Cloudland Canyon! Meanwhile CITAY (Dead Oceans) display their musical prowess and courage by tackling the revered "Tugboat." Citay are known for making 21st century prog, though this doesnt become apparent until the end of the track. Mostly, they do a straight, maybe even a little stripped down, cover of this pop masterpiece. Citay, nay EZRA FEINBERG, spent some time in PIANO MAGIC and this cover should do his former mates proud. This track also appears on the Citays new album Dream Get Together on Dead Oceans, but is best heard as a single." -Intercoastal Artists

"Clang Quartet is the musical project of Scotty Irving (drummer for Geezer Lake, Eugene Chadbourne, Benjomatic, and others). Live, Clang Quartet is predominantly an improvisational percussion/performance-art show, based metaphorically on his life as a follower of Jesus Christ. The recorded output features standard instruments like guitars, keyboards, and drums as well as Irvings own electrified crutch mixed with sound collages of family tape recordings from his childhood and field recordings. Truly experimental music in the spirit of Swans, Whitehouse, Merzbow, and AC/DC."- Silber

"Regardez-vous the debut recording by Clarinette, a solo project that has flowed from the brain of well-known archivist, Daniel "Dan" Vallor. Utilizing such instruments as guitar, swinehorn and kuck, Mr. Vallor has created a world of scrambled-diz miniatures of disarming variety. Played w/ tiny robot fingers, lacerated by stumps of home-studio fuckery, the five pieces here are as potently frenched a selection of man-handled string readymades as any record collector has ever waxed."

"With 2001s "Haze" on Ecstatic Yod and the forthcoming "Transmuting Fall" on Celebrate Psi Phenomenon, Clarinette has confounded a few, delighted some others and remained completely unheard of by just about everyone else. Drenching everything in blankets of echo (natural and synthetic) Clarinette has effectively evaded creating anything reasonably identifiable as proper music. Dusted⿿s Charlie Wilmoth called Clarinette⿿s ⿿Haze⿝ ⿿a bizarre gem of a record⿝ describing it as ⿿like nothing a human being would try to make on purpose⿝. ⿿Haze⿝ went on to take an impressive 916th place in The Village Voices Pazz n Jop Poll for 2002. 2004⿿s Little Fluttery Screamy Thing EP and its accompanying album length CD-R explore what happens when too many equipment failures crash into an unhealthy obsession with the recent DNA CD anthology. It is nearly all guitar and echo and just barely appropriate for release. Lathe cut by Peter King in New Zealand and limited to 51 copies." - Clarinette.

Format: LP
Label: Akarma
Country: Italy
Price: $22.00
"A=MH2 is the debut album of one of the most interesting and irreverent bands of the British underground rock scene of the late 60s. Like the Deviants, Edgar Broughton Band, Pink Fairies, and Third World War, Clark - Hutchinson had an anarchic attitude towards the establishment, in their case represented by the music business. Very inspired and promising, A=MH2 combines many influences, brilliant ideas and the talent of Mick Hutchinson, whose guitar style recalls his passion for Indian music and rock blues."- Akarma. Artist: CLARK HUTCHINSON
Title: Gestalt
Format: CD
Label: Repetoire
Country: USA
Price: $19.00
First CD reissue of the 3rd Clark Hutchinson album, originally released by Deram Records in 1971. "Andy Clark and Mick Hutchinson recorded four semi-legendary LPs of drug/scatter/raga-blues between 1969 and 1971. Mick Hutchinson was -- and still is -- a gifted guitarist who had began his career playing Indian style music with the tabla expert Sam Gopal. Although he never recorded with Sam Gopals Dream -- a young guitarist named Lemmy eventually fulfilled this role -- Hutchinson and Gopal played together at the legendary 14 hour Technicolour Dream at Londons Alexandra Palace in April of 1967. Later, he teamed up with the multi-instrumentalist Andy Clark. They both played a variety of instruments and this abundance of talent was brought to bear on the extraordinary two man album A=MH? which they recorded during two hectic 12 hour sessions in 1969. The bands last offering before splitting in 1971, Gestalt , was an altogether gentler, more reflective, disillusioned affair. Gestalt is eleven tracks shot through with sadness and regret. To some extent its like listening to an extended meditation on Peter Greens Man of the World. The lyrics are less explicit and less maudlin than on that particular track, but Andy Clarks vocals have the same poignancy, and Mick Hutchinsons guitar deftly and efficiently touches all the right spots. In case youre wondering, a gestalt is a pattern or structure -- an organised whole -- that is more than the sum of its parts. The idea originates with the German system of Gestalt psychology, which holds that perceptions and reactions are gestalts. A clear example is a melody as distinct from the separate notes that go to make it up. However you apply the term to this album, there is something here that transcends the eleven short tracks that go to make it up. Its elusive, like something half-remembered from a dream. Whatever it is, its enough to break your heart." - Simon Smith.

Artist: CLARK, TODD TAMANEND
Title: Nova Psychedelia (1975-1985)
Format: Double CD
Label: Anopheles
Country: USA
Price: $20.00
"Outside of his native Pennsylvania-West Virginia stomping grounds, Todd Tamanend Clark remains one of the least known North American underground artists in the lost music DIY field of his era, considering he has collaborated with and shared time with many of his peers over the years (Cheetah Chrome, Allen Ravenstine, Stiv Bators), as well as progenitors (Dorothy Moskowitz of United States of America, Robert Moog, William Burroughs), his significant body of recorded (and printed) work was always made in small runs and has remained elusive and highly collectible to this day. This 2CD set collects all of his released vinyl recordings from 1975-1985, including those issued as The Stars (1975 45 rpm and eight-track cartridge material), The Eyes ( New Gods: Aardvark Thru Zymurgy LP from 1977), Todd Clark Group ( Were Not Safe! LP from 79), and Todd Clark ( Into the Vision LP from 84, plus two 45s released in the first half of the 80s). He has since appended his name to reflect his Native American roots. This document features a 20 page booklet, with Todds own personal history included, with notes on each track (all 33 of em, total time for this set is over 150 minutes of music), and a host of great photos and artwork. His muse may remain a mystery after you experience this wide range of sounds, which might very well be Anopheles Records most ambitious and out there release to date, but he leaves tangible clues and some out and out hooks with which to grab onto: great reworkings of Hungry (Paul Revere and the Raiders) and I Had Too Much To Dream Last Night (Electric Prunes), his bizarre slo-mo take on Two Thousand Light Years From Home (from his debut 45 from 75) are some points of reference, but its when Todd cuts loose on original material that his truly mesmerizing, bent vision takes hold of your cranium and refuses to let go. His personal magnetosphere is quite intoxicating, often challenging, and just plain hallucinatory. Thats Nova Psychedelia ..." - Anopheles.

Format: Double LP
Label: Sunbeam
Country: UK
Price: $32.00
"Previously reissued on CD by Sunbeam, now issued on deluxe LP format as well; 180 gram pressing. As virtuoso musicians and members of Sam Gopals Dream, Clark-Hutchinson (Andy Clark and Mick Hutchinson) were well-known to regulars at legendary London clubs such as UFO and Middle Earth when they decided to branch out as a duo. Recorded in two intense overnight sessions in May 1969, A=MH2 is a scorching blend of jazz, raga, blues and psychedelia that has long been established as one of the key recordings to have emerged from the UK psychedelic underground. Its presented here as a 2LP set, together with their March 1969 recording debut, an unreleased collection of acid blues that features some equally stunning musicianship. The deluxe gatefold sleeve comes complete with detailed notes and previously-unpublished photos, making it the most comprehensive vinyl edition of this groundbreaking music ever assembled."- Sunbeam

"Brand new dead end carpetbagger blues by these born losers. This third Claudio Two album (following the unreleased and indefinitely shelved Jazz Improve CDR) finds the crew flexing their muscles a bit - from wasted bedroom metal riffs carelessly layered over each other to create a zit cream vortex, to synth / occult pieces inspired by John Carpenter soundtracks and Ritalin snorting, to atmospheric black metal frightmares, and decrepid blooz rock, its all here on this brief CD, which may or may not include the bands first actual cover song, by French geniuses Vietnam Veterans. "Latest and best from this mysterious tribe finds them in full synthesizer horror mode. Taking cues from the soundtracks of John Carpenter, the mutant space techno of Allan Bryant, the time-lapse mesmerism of Robert Fripp, and the intrepid synthesizer experiments of Ruth White, Hot Lead deals in nightmarish arpeggios, shapeshifting noise and ominous melodic variations. Recorded direct to 8 track - no boring, sterile microhouse polish here - and comprised of mostly solo tracks by individual members. Complete with dreamy Sisters of Mercy fanboy cover art. Limited to 150 copies." -Mad Monk

Title: Punctum Contra Punctum
Format: CD Box Set
Label: Die Schachtel
Country: Italy
Price: $20.00
"Aldo Clementi marks out the distance with an absolute refusal to provide narratives, whether of tension resolved, or simply of that logically unending succession of states of being so dear to many of his contemporaries. His materials, whether gathered from a tonal past, generated as a jeu desprìt from the names of dedicatees, or produced by a purely abstract process, are projected into a rotational steady state that has no logical end or beginning." - David Osmond-Smith, 2005. "On the occasion of his 80th birthday, Die Schachtel is proud to present "Punctum Contra Punctum", a deluxe compact disc box dedicated to Aldo Clementi, one of the most important figures of Italian music of the 20th Century. Born in Sicily in 1925, he studied piano and later composition under the guidance of teachers such as Goffredo Petrassi and Bruno Maderna, who also introduced him to electronic music at the RAI Studio of Phonology in Milan. Like many composers of the period, he employed serial technique early in his work, to abandon it later on in favor of a very personal, ingenious and unique method for creating new music. Blessed with extraordinary skills of invention and assimilation, Clementi may be the one living composer for whom "genius" is not too strong a word. His musical language is extremely articulate and profound, resulting in a fascination with obsessive repetitions, collages, canons, and incredibly complex rhythmic textures which have to be heard to be believed. At the same time his music maintains to stay fresh, dynamic and highly enjoyable. A must-have for all the modern music lovers, and a great discovery for the most adventourous and prepared listener. Deluxe white and silver-foil design CD-box edition, complete with a lovingly designed 64-page booklet in English and Italian." - Die Schachtel.

Artist: CLIMAX GOLDEN TWINS
Title: Eerie Fragrance
Format: 12"
Label: Etude
Country: USA
Price: $14.00
"A lovely vinyl reissue on Etude Records of a long obscure Climax Golden Twins gem. Originally issued in 1995, on cassette, Eerie Fragrance or Eyeless Fabrication or Exclude Frank or Eat Fuck or etc (forever) was Climax Golden Twins second official issue after a self-released double seven inch gatefold record. Cassettes--the cockroach of the industry--were a necessity at the poorer end of the music spectrum prior to CDRs and file sharing⿦the good old days⿦EF was a collage of noise, found sounds, punk rock disasters, Chinese climaxes, broken records, and tape failures mastered directly to cassette on a reverberant wooden floor in an old building in Seattle, Washington. It seemed an inauspicious start and little presaged the ambient/dreamy/art installation/field recording/Anomalous Records darlings CGT were to become with releases such as Lovely, Dream Cut Short in the Mysterious Clouds, Locations, etc. However, secret free hillbilly noise epilepsy has always lurked under the button up shirts, white wine sipping and gallery-opening snack-munching. The noise informs the dreams which informs the ambiance which informs the chaos and so back to the beginning and vice-versa. Etude Records discovered CGT through their work on the horror film Session Nine and have been wanting to release something ever since. Part band, part art project, Climax Golden Twins were discovered lurking under a desk in a laboratory in the early 1920s. Reconstituted around 1993 or 4 (just add gin), they perpetrated various audio artifacts on an unsuspecting (and cold) world (see extensive and largely mythical list below). These days they are the CGT in AFCGT. And they released Victrola Favorites recently on Dust to Digital. Their laboratory origins lead to a an unhealthy interest in early recording and the era of music on 78rpm records and cylinders, a time of acoustic sound reproduction when oral traditions ended and the home entertainment industry and the information age devoured our puny lives. Thats a mouthful. This era was a pivotal one in understanding how humanity arrived where it is today, though Climax Golden Twins denies all knowledge of where that might be." -Etude

"Strange and skewed songs and instrumentals, some recorded as far back as 1993, some belched out more recently. A sound that harkens back to their earliest double seven-inch release: guitars, found sounds, drums, percussions, distortions, manipulations. Climax Golden Twins have existed for an uncertain number of years and in varying states of languor and moral decrepitude.a group of loincloth-clad sloth herders snacking on toucan drumsticks and rubbing the electronic equipment left behind by a recently cannibalized National Geographic crew. Co-ordination of this kind within a group of primates without language is a rare and beautiful thing." - Fire Breathing Turtle

Title: Nothing Makes Any Sense
Format: CD
Label: No Fun
Country: USA
Price: $11.00
"A constantly shifting and engaging long-form piece of developed drone, foreboding melody, and harsh grit, Nothing Makes Any Sense finds Lee Ranaldo (Sonic Youth), Nels Cline (Nels Cline Singers, Wilco), and Alan Licht pushing their guitars into a cacophonous state that bears much influence from the post-jazz fields theyve all cut their teeth in, but also bearing down a forceful brutality that has sometimes eluded their past material. While Carlos Giffoni uses his analog Synth mastery to adequately contend and mesh seamlessly with the trio of strings, letting his analog noise pulsate and pierce with its own sense of contained stampede. This collaboration was recorded in February of this year at the sadly-defunct NYC venue Tonic and was mixed and mastered by the ubiquitous James Plotkin. Included with the packaging are ink drawings from Lee Ranaldo and a review of Lou Reeds live classic Rock N Roll Animal by cult musician/Creem scribe Peter Laughner, which includes a line which bestowed this album with its title." - No Fun.

Artist: CLOAKED LIGHT/PALE BLUE SKY
Title: Clear Of/Someday, Sometime
Format: LP
Label: Arbor
Country: USA
Price: $13.00
"Working together, but differently. Clear Of, shows Cloaked Light working within a new mode; an expanded temporal sensitivity through field recording and discrete static chords. Slow movement- revealing growth and decay at the subtlest thresholds; disappearing music with a heavy presence, a shifting sense of space, not in the room, but of the room. Pale Blue Skys Someday, Sometime approaches a similar expansion of perception and unobscuring blur. Through tape manipulation, the inner workings of tonal relationships are placed under focus; extending time to reveal new moments; widening the view. Distorting to understand; a reorienting pause. Originally conceived to coincide with the Cloaked Light/Pale Blue Sky California tour with Pedestrian Deposit, Infinite Body, Earn, and Mirror to Mirror in January 2010; a testament to a common point and its different trajectories. Approaching the possibility. Mastered by Pete Swanson; cut at 45 rpm. In an edition of 400 copies with glossy jackets and inner sleeves." -Arbor

Price: $15.00
"Recorded in Brooklyn, Germany, and Memphis, Silver Tongued Sisyphus follows CLOUDLAND CANYONs well-received Requiems Der Natur 2002-2004 released on the Tee Pee label. The albums secular calls to prayer with humming, looping, and loping ambient passages are interspersed with bursting rhythmic energy and agitated guitar lines. Pulling influences from the foggy ether of generations past, the band stakes their claim to the shadows of the cult musical culture of the late 1960s and early 1970s German underground scene. Live shows sound like unauthorized soundtracks to netherworld versions of The Swimmer or The Scorceror. "This collaboration between the mellow, Memphis-meets-Germany duo of KIP ULHORN and SIMON WOJAN (aka CLOUDLAND CANYON) and Chicagos great rock n roll concierge and knower-of-mystics MR. ROBERT LOWE (aka LICHENS) was born on a trip to the West Coast of the United States a few years ago. Exterminating Angels single 30-minute track uses voice, guitar, samplers, and ARP synthesizer. Youve heard of the unmade science fiction epic whose would-be director proposed using different big-name progressive bands to perform a soundtrack for specific planets used in the script; here then are the sounds accompanying a spacecraft thats a combination Death Star and Taco Bell from the 1970s filled with cement Mayan temples and pyramids populated by large, snappily dressed reptilian beings. "Full gatefold jacket. Dieter Moebius and Hans-Joachim Roedelius aka Cluster released this, their first album after Conrad Schnitzler (Kraftwerk, Tangerine Dream) left the group originally known as Kluster, in 1971. On the outer edge of German space rock, Cluster 71 stands as a testament to minimalist cosmische music. The three untitled tracks are exploratory, ever-changing pieces which focus on guitar distortion and synthesizer wails. This album deserves the many accolades its been given, and holds up as an early landmark in the history of beatless ambience." -4 Men With Beards

Title: Curiosum
Format: LP
Label: Bureau B
Country: Germany
Price: $18.00
"LP version with color inner sleeve and liner notes by Asmus Tietchens. Originally released on Sky Records in 1981, Bureau B reissues Clusters Curiosum -- the sixth duo collaboration between Dieter Moebius and Hans-Joachim Roedelius. Curiosum was to mark a departure to pastures new. Little did they know that this would be their last release for the next nine years. Curiosum was launched into an atmosphere of musical turbulence. Electronic sounds had become commonplace in pop music and the voice of Cluster could barely be heard through the noise of a new generation of music. Curiosum is a decidedly tranquil, almost melancholy album -- quiet being the operative word, as Cluster slipped out of the limelight. It was recorded in rudimentary fashion in Austria, now home to Roedelius. This is Cluster music at its most serene, a sense of profound humility running through the seven tracks of the LP. It says a lot about the state of mind of the two musicians, allied to the fact that this was the first time they chose to mix outside of Conny Planks studio where, in the past, the finishing touches had been applied. Roedelius and Moebius laid their cards on the table for all to see, offering up Curiosum as an honest, unadorned selection of tracks, free of artifice and preconception. The album represented a return to the virtues of their early work (when Cluster was written with a "K"), random and spontaneous. Curiosum is nothing if not a curiosity, wholly resistant to the cacophonous zeitgeist of the early 80s, stripped down and keenly focused on perfect shapes. This is Clusters swan-song to the past." - Bureau B.

Formed in Germany in 1971 when Hans-Joachim Roedelius and Dieter Moebius left Conrad Schnitzlers group Kluster, Cluster can be counted among the most important protagonists of the electronic avant-garde. Some credit them with having invented ambient music, others as pioneers of synthesizer pop, while to others they are firmly embedded in the Krautrock universe. There is some truth in all of these notions. Although Cluster and "rock music" are seldom mentioned in the same breath, their early works in particular are marked by a lack of structure and futuristic, cold soundscapes typical of the Krautrock variation known as "kosmische." Recorded and released in 1979, Grosses Wasser was Clusters fifth album as a duo. The cover art is the first indication of minimalist tendencies, reflecting the concentration, transparency and maturity of the content, almost like chamber music. While nothing is left to chance, each of the six Cluster pieces effervesces with a certain joie de vivre, providing ample scope for artistic spontaneity. Grosses Wasser was recorded at Paragon Studio, which had been set up by Peter Baumann (Tangerine Dream) not long before. Baumann had set aside plenty of time for the recording sessions, enabling Cluster to experiment with sequencers for the first time and explore some of the most up-to-date (for that period) studio gadgets on offer. Moebius and Roedelius made intelligent, measured use of the latest paraphernalia without being overwhelmed by it. New technology was deployed with an exactness designed to refine their sophisticated and fully-developed musical ideas. More than ever before in Clusters history, acoustic elements can be heard, with the dulcet tones of Paragons Steinway grand piano taking center stage. Electric bass, guitar, percussion and voice are all embraced. Consequently, Grosses Wasser is anything but a solely electronic album. It is, however, one of those rare LPs whose musical substance transcends its age, never sounding outdated. Grosses Wasser is the first in a series of 23 albums to be reissued by Bureau B, comprehensively documenting the superb electronic/ambient/Krautrock history of the Hamburg label, Sky Records, from whom the material has been licensed. Cluster (in their various guises) will feature heavily in the series (solo albums as well as collaborations with Brian Eno, Conny Plank, Gerd Beerbohm, Mani Neumeier, etc.). Printed inner sleeve includes liner notes by Asmus Tietchens." -Bureau B

"Originally recorded and released in 1977, this pioneering ambient album brought together several legends of progressive electronic music: Brian Eno, solo artist and collaborator with David Bowie, Robert Fripp, and Roxy Music; Dieter Moebius and Hans-Joachim Roedelius aka Cluster, both of whom made dozens of ground-breaking recordings throughout the 70s; and Conny Plank, who recorded everyone from Neu! to Ash Ra Tempel to Devo. This album was the first of several celebrated collaborations between these artists, whose influence looms over such current bands as Aphex Twin, Boards Of Canada, and Mouse On Mars." -4 Men With Beards

"Its been a monumental year for John Clyde-Evans. He recently returned from a year living in the Punjab region of India, and after a slew of releases under his Sikh name of Tirath Singh Nirmala, hes back to the good ol JCE. Thats not all thats changed, though. His latest opus, apetal thunderfall, spins off into a new web of cacophony, leaving behind the pastoral anthems of yesteryear and taking aim at more abrasive ways to leave behind the rust. apetal thunderfall was recorded entirely during JCEs stay in Jalandhar in 2007 using found software and audio sources. The resulting recordings feel almost primitive. Evans uses his uncanny ability to blend and mix multitudes of tones into sprawling thickets of sound. It is hard to call this music drone, but at the same time there is a continuous flow to these three pieces that works in a similar way. Over the course of 43 minutes, this music etches itself into your skull, drilling itself in deep without drawing blood. Divided into three tracks, apetal thunderfall is more a singular entity than a collection of works. This album is cathartic, both musically and as a vehicle for JCE himself. But make no mistake, this is not spiritual music with mystic over/undertones. Simply, it is the new aural vision from one person made while living in India for a year. It is abrasive yet beautiful, and harkens back to a time and place when things were far less complicated." -Digitalis.

"Delight in the Stream is the first solo vinyl outing for John Clyde-Evans (aka Tirath Singh Nirmala) in close to a decade. Recorded during a year-long stay in India, the album seamlessly weaves together an array of piercing bowed objects, flutes and voice with electronic and audio embellishments over the course of three extended tracks. The scattering of sounds swirl around to disorienting effect yet still manage to mesmerize as the music draws itself out. Pressed in a limited edition of 300 copies." - Amen Absen
