Artist: ACOLYTES
Title: s/t
Format: LP
Label: Alter
Country: UK
Price: $28.00
“Acolytes is the self-titled debut album by London-based enigma D. Shan. Following up a puzzling (yet well received) 7" on The Pheromoans label Savoury Days, Acolytes sees Shan develop his sound into areas of greater fidelity, complexity, and a unique non-linear approach to songwriting. Reference points could be drawn towards Art Bears, the Cold Storage scene, The Residents, and the Ralph Records roster, but they would all fall short because ultimately Acolytes is a highly unclassifiable record -- which in 2014 is no mean feat. Features guest appearances from D. Bolger (The Pheromoans, The Bomber Jackets) and D. Aird (Vindicatrix). Parental advisory; explicit lyrics.” - Alter.

Artist: BASIC HOUSE
Title: Oats
Format: LP
Label: Alter
Country: UK
Price: $24.00
"Basic House is the solo electronics project of Stephen Bishop, a mainstay of the DIY scene in the UKs North East and the brain behind the label Opal Tapes. Bishop works with equipment both rudimentary and highly technical which become aligned together without bias to create a singular sound that focuses on decay, stagnation and apathy towards clichés within the current climate of electronic music. Oats is his new full-length record with six deep compositions woven together to create seamless transitions between them. "AR II" opens the record with fragile and haunted electronics before developing into something almost melodic with an imposing 4/4 kick. "Child Confession" follows with dead electronic hums, whispered samples and a sluggish half-speed techno thud which gives way to a collage of cruddy noise and scalpel-sharp bursts of clatter and a crude non-rhythmic bass pulse before ending in the buzzing maelstrom of "Interiors," which is equal parts Florian Hecker and Andy Stott at his most visceral. "Est Oan" begins the second half of the record ominously with slightly absurd farmyard groans that eventually melt into hypnotic machine music. The industrial lurch of "B.G. Feathers" is the closest Bishop comes on this side to hitting anything resembling a groove and instead evokes the grinding power of Maurizio Bianchis best 80s material. Mastered by Stephen Bishop with vinyl cut by Grammy Greg at Masterpiece. Photography by Traianos Pakioufakis." - Alter.

Title: The Lister
Format: LP
Label: Alter
Country: UK
Price: $24.00
"London-based trio of Russell Walker, Daniel Bolger, and Sian Dorrer. The former two names you may recognize from their roles in prolific post-punk nitwits the Pheromoans, while the latter has played in various groups in Londons thriving DIY scene and opened the notorious London venue Power Lunches. Founded by Walker and Bolger after the death of an ill-fated trio with Nik Void who went on to find greater fame and fortune with Factory Floor, the group was originally augmented by the drumming skills of Wetdog member Sarah Datblygu. This line-up recorded and released their debut on the cassette imprint of the short-lived Sex Is Disgusting label, before misfortune hit Walker and Bolger for a second time with Datblygu upping sticks for the USA. Bowing out from her role, she gave permission for the two to continue under the condition that her replacement was female, so the two recruited former Plug drummer Sian Dorrer on electronic drums who gave the group a more defined electronic sound and an opportunity to seize some sort of stride with cassettes, lathes and 7"s for various labels like Night People and Night School. The Lister is their first full-length and the most focused statement of their singular and somewhat awkward aesthetic. Recorded primarily by Bolger and Dorrer at home in North-East London during a particularly rough time in Walkers life which involved frequent visits to his newborn son at the Lister hospital in Stevenage. A situation where sparse moments of creativity were reduced to writing lyrics in the form of text messages in mundane places such as Sainsburys Café, the hospital restaurant and the Beefeater carvery at Coreys Mill. Walkers dry observations from the period give The Lister a slightly macabre atmosphere throughout its eight tracks and provide moments of black humor, self-deprecation and a perverse euphoria in misanthropy. Musical reference points could be directed towards early Legendary Pink Dots, Hype Williams, early European minimal synth and even Angelo Badalamentis Twin Peaks score, while evoking a scenario that feels somewhat uneasy -- a hungover/slightly drunk train journey to somewhere you dont really want to be but at the same time cant avoid, trying to step outside of yourself to raise a wry and knowing smile at the misfortune along the way. Artwork by David Blanco and mastering by John Hannon at No. Dedicated to Hannah Walker." - Alter.

Artist: CHAIN OF FLOWERS
Title: s/t
Format: LP
Label: Alter
Country: UK
Price: $23.00
"Emerging from the murk and dirt of their home in Cardiff, Wales, Chain of Flowers reveal their long-awaited debut album. Recorded at Monnow Valley Studio in Wales, Chain of Flowers is a dense eight-track opus of heavy shoegaze sonics and urgent post-punk. The bands razor-sharp attention to classic songwriting nous means the record dips and dives between euphoric, hazy melody ("Glimmers of Joy") and overwhelming gloom ("Bury My Love"), all while retaining a breathless pace. Lead track "Crisis" epitomizes this frantic personality exquisitely, skirting between sludgy atmospherics and hardcores punchy immediacy with aplomb. The six-piece sowed their seeds through the release of six songs since 2012 (via the bands own Swine Language tape label), cutting their teeth on dates alongside Iceage, Cremation Lily, The Fall, The Smear, Shallow Sanction, Eagulls, Nothing, and more before decamping to Monnow Valley for the four-day session that spawned their debut LP. "We dropped ourselves into the middle of nowhere and hammered it out with next to no sleep available to us. The urgency and delirium of the situation helped us," explains the bands vocalist Joshua Smith. "Though we only had 96 hours in a studio to physically make it what we wanted, this record is the product of our last three years as a band and beyond that as individuals. We spent a lot of time in our space writing these songs and weve also spent a lot of time ironing them out through playing as and when and wherever we have been able to." Mixed over six months by New York-based Ben Greenberg (Uniform, The Men, Pygmy Shrews), the LP sees Chain of Flowers break free of their locality. "Its been a drawn out but very necessary sonic exorcism for us," explains Josh. "We are happy that it will see the light of day."" - Alter.

Artist: CREMATION LILY
Title: Fires Frame the Silhouette
Format: LP
Label: Alter
Country: UK
Price: $26.00
"Cremation Lily is the project of UK-based Z. Zsigo. For the past five years, Zsigo has been consistently working under most peoples radars with his distinctly personal take on power electronics, developing a modest cult following and a respectable catalog of releases through his Strange Rules label. In 2012 the project was brought to the attention of Steve Underwood from Harbinger Sound who subsequently released the Fertility Servant 7" and the project began to gather a more visible live presence thanks to gigs with the likes of Consumer Electronics, Con-Dom, Natural Assembly and on the East Coast of America, too, with Alberich and Âmes Sanglantes. Now Alter is pleased to present the first full-length vinyl collection of Cremation Lily material -- Fires Frame the Silhouette is compiled mostly from reworked and remixed tracks from previous CL cassette releases. All pieces are thematically linked by a time and place in Zsigos life and bringing them together creates a record of masterful atmosphere which ranks high in the industrial/PE canon and closes a chapter in the projects timeline. Mastered by Arthur Rizk and cut to vinyl by Noel Summerville. Limited one-time pressing of 300 copies." - Alter.

Artist: CROATION AMOR
Title: Love Means Taking Action
Format: CD
Label: Alter
Country: UK
Price: $18.00
“Multi-faceted Copenhagen-based artist Loke Rahbek presents Love Means Taking Action under his alias Croatian Amor. It is the first full-length Croatian Amor recording since 2014s The Wild Palms, a release that was made available on cassette for a single month, and only in exchange for a nude self-portrait. Since the inception of the project, Croatian Amor has dealt with a mixture of fiction and reality, often using real events and places as a platform for a largely fictional play. Where there is playfulness, there is revelation. On Love Means Taking Action - without a doubt the projects strongest work to date - the effect of the perpetual collaging of information is keenly felt. Short, unnerving moments appear with slick familiarity. Voices repeat and quietly glitch through tonal shifts. Listeners are ushered along by the shuddering effect of the samples and field recordings on the pristine synthesis, with motifs and plot lines presented as quickly as they disintegrate. Listeners are enticed to find comfort here but are not guided through a space as with much ambient music. The textures and terrains that Love Means Taking Action presents form an array of scenarios with what at times feels like a punishing degree of indifference to the listener. Listeners are bluntly shown snippets of impassioned architectures. It is a process that draws the listener in through alienation.” - Alter.

Artist: DAMIEN DUBROVNIK
Title: First Burning Attraction
Format: LP
Label: Alter
Country: UK
Price: $24.00
"Formed in 2009, Damien Dubrovnik is the Danish electronic duo of Christian Stadsgaard (Sarahs Charity) and Loke Rahbek (Sexdrome, Var, Lust For Youth), founders of the Copenhagen-based record label Posh Isolation. In their day-job as label managers, Stadsgaard and Rahbek have been instrumental in establishing the citys prolific and exciting noise/punk community and outgrowing their humble beginnings in noise/industrial culture by attracting a cult/fanatical worldwide following. Working together as Damien Dubrovnik, they have published work across two LPs, a handful of sought-after cassette releases, compilations and notched up numerous performances throughout Europe and Scandinavia. Their third LP, First Burning Attraction, draws explicitly from DIY minimal synth traditions and the canon of European industrial music, resulting in the strongest manifestation of their sound so far. Consisting of six powerful and varied tracks, the album features more of the brooding synth parts and ominous bass throbs that dominated the highlights of previous LP Europa Dagbog -- Europa Diary, yet it feels tenser and more atmospheric due to the application of new acoustic-based sound sources, primitive bass pulses and more disciplined dynamics. Rahbeks vocals, which were previously guttural and wild, appear more restrained here, giving the tracks an alluring air of ambiguity and suggestiveness -- no undirected aggression, but something more thoughtful and introspective instead. Mastered by Viktor Olsson and cut by Grammy Greg at Masterpiece studios in London, 2013." -Alter.

Artist: DEAS
Title: String Studies
Format: LP
Label: Alter
Country: UK
Price: $28.00
“Deas is the new moniker of London-based guitarist Cameron Deas, and String Studies, his first LP of all electronic-based material, is unlike anything else hes released. Recorded at home between February and March of 2014, the 8 pieces on this LP were recorded live with very few overdubs, with Deass 12-string acoustic guitar used as a sampling source to trigger and in turn be manipulated by a modular system. The immaculate production and scalpel-sharp twists and turns found within the music display a remarkable level of confidence and intuition in Deass new process, which makes it difficult to believe that this is his first documented work within the electronic medium. Mastered by John Hannon at No Recording Studio.” - Alter.

Artist: DESIGN A WAVE
Title: Live On Your Yard
Format: 12"
Label: Alter
Country: USA
Price: $18.00
"Tom Hirsts solo project Design A Wave offers Live On Your Yard -- an EP that presents four tracks of emotive and melancholic synth pop that point towards the eccentricity of artists like Snakefinger and Tuxedomoon, the synthetic slickness of Italo disco, and the misery of coldwave. This is the first vinyl release in Design a Waves 10-year history. Limited to 300 copies. Mastered and cut by Rashad Becker at Dubplates and Mastering." - Alter

Title: Patterns of Penetration
Format: 7"
Label: Alter
Country: UK
Price: $12.00
“Damien Dubrovnik are Loke Rahbek (Lust For Youth, Var, Croatian Amor) and Christian Stadsgaard, two Copenhagen residents who run the prolific Posh Isolation label. "Penis Corset" is driven by a crude and primitive rhythm made from an electronic bass pulse and blown-out synth noise, punctuated by feedback and guttural vocals. On the flip, title-track "Patterns of Penetration" presents a calmer side of the duos work yet also finds them at their most complex and rich, sonically-speaking, with a two-note synth lead, spoken vocals, and washes of analog tape noise. Edition of 400 copies with artwork by Danish artist Martin Erik Andersen.” - Alter.

Title: Mil Pluton
Format: LP
Label: Alter
Country: UK
Price: $21.00
"Èlg is Laurent Gerard. Since 2000, Élg has made a name for himself in the experimental underground performing solo in venues across Europe and the USA and also in the trio Reines DAngleterre with Jo Tanz and Ghédalia Tazartès. Over the years he has built a complex body of work which has been spread amongst reputable labels such as Kraak, SS, Lal Lal Lal, Taped Sounds and Nashazphone. Now, four years since his debut, Tout Ploie, Alter and Hundebiss present Mil Pluton, the second Èlg album on vinyl. In that time, Gerard has knuckled down with a bunch of new gear and built a fresh sound which is difficult to categorize but still carries many of the characteristics of his previous work. One can hear EBM-esque rhythms, scalpel-sharp musique concrète-style editing, dense layers of swampy electronics which open up the same hypnotic spirals that the Èlg of old did. Vocally, Èlg has evolved beyond conventional language and now works with an Esperanto-like form of alien linguistics to front the sonic mass. If your musical interests sit within the realm of outer limits electronics and have been drawn towards the work of Throbbing Gristle, Bernard Szajner, Coil and Tazartes, then look no further. Mil Pluton also features musical contributions from Jo Tanz, Jean-Philippe Gross, Bill Kouligas (PAN), TG Gondard and Jan Anderzen (Tomutonttu/Kemialliset Ystävät). All tracks were composed, recorded and mixed by Èlg in Brussels in 2011, then mastered and cut by Rashad Becker at Dubplates & Mastering in Berlin in December of that same year, and pressed lovingly onto 150 gram vinyl by Alter and Hundebiss in September 2012. Edition of 300 copies, housed in an elaborate fold-out jacket." - Alter/Hundebiss.

Artist: HELM
Title: Rawabet
Format: Cass
Label: Alter
Country: UK
Price: $10.00
“Rawabet is a live album from Helm documenting a special performance that took place alongside Maurice Louca in front of a sold-out audience at the Rawabet Theater in Cairo on October 22nd, 2015. This document is also a snapshot of a period of pan-continental touring which took Helm from Egypt to Austria and then to Canada in three days. During these shows, material from his recently released Olympic Mess album (PAN 063CD/LP, 2015) was re-imagined, expanded, and performed alongside new and "other" material, to add an alternative perspective to the original recordings. What ended up being performed in Cairo on October 22nd owed a lot to the energy of the city and the superb recording and mixing job by Khyam Allami. Rawabet can be seen as the definitive live document of Helm to date.” - Alter.

Title: A Romance of 2 Planets
Format: 12"
Label: Alter
Country: UK
Price: $18.00
"All-new EP from Hieroglyphic Being aka Jamal Moss, who has nailed a highly unique sound that draws from acid, Chicago house, industrial, and new age music, produced through primitive means which successfully captures a raw intensity. A Romance of 2 Planets presents three lengthy pieces, comprising of off-center techno which incorporates primal four-to-the-floor drum machine stabs, erratic and disjointed melodies that duck and dive around arpeggiated synth lines, and a self-imposed rough style of editing. Limited to 500 copies housed in color LP sleeves." - Alter

Title: The Electronic Belt
Format: 12"
Label: Alter
Country: UK
Price: $16.00
"Jamal Moss aka Heiroglyphic Being presents The Electronic Belt, his second release for Alter, and perhaps his most dancefloor-oriented release. The EP is made up of three choice cuts from 2012s Man with the Red Drum transmission with each track bearing the signifiers of Jamals rough and distinctive production; melodies twisting themselves into psychedelic wormholes, raw kicks and toms that hit hard and tight. Yellow vinyl edition in five different colored disco bags, mastered for vinyl by Stephen Bishop." -Alter.

Artist: KLEIN, NICK
Title: The Lonesome Dealer
Format: 12"
Label: Alter
Country: UK
Price: $20.00
"Four disparate, industrial-tinged tracks that demonstrate a rough-hewn synthesis of noise and techno. From the hypnotic "Caberet Voltaire gone Reggaeton" patter of "Chats With Lucy" to the crawling computer acid of "Christian Rock Concert", Nick Klein teases out melodies from beneath layers of muddied beats on The Lonesome Dealer, a record that is as pacifying as it is jarring. "Do You Want To Crash?" is perhaps the clearest realization of this idea; its crescendoing din of noise giving way to a laser-cut synth line, while "Pain Management Resource" is built around a clatter of hi-hats and wobbly polyrhythms." - Alter.

Artist: LIBEREZ
Title: The Letter
Format: LP
Label: Alter
Country: UK
Price: $21.00
"This is the first album by Liberez, a group formed by recording engineer John Hannon and Pete Wilkins in Southend. The project began life exploring a deconstruction of the traditional "band" form before expanding to a quartet with the addition of vocalist Nina Bosnic, and multi-instrumentalist Tom James Scott. Musically rooted in improvisation, the band sought a progression from the loosely described "noise rock" sound at their inception into more abstract territories. The tracks were recorded as a mixture of sessions at Hannons studio and external locations where fleeting incidents were captured on crude equipment such as mobile phones and portable cassette recorders. It was a piece of text written by Bosnic that gave birth to the initial concepts that formed the backbone of The Letter, and new ideas with regards to incorporating her voice were then created within the group. Bosnics vocals on this record bear little resemblance to traditional singing or melody, but instead use the inflection and cadence of speech to play with syntax. The repeated phrases and deconstructed sentences give the record an unusual and disconcerting atmosphere, acting as a sinister bedfellow to the sharp and broken sound of the guitar and heavily treated drums. While these instruments may represent rock n roll, Liberez are content to take influence from the likes of Robert Ashley rather than Chuck Berry. The Letter is a bold first statement from a group who are taking full advantage of what they have at their disposal, and proudly displays the vast frequency bandwidth that they now work within. Limited edition of 300 copies. " - Alter

Artist: LUMISOKEA
Title: Mnemosyne
Format: LP
Label: Alter
Country: UK
Price: $23.00
“Berlin-based Italian/Belgian duo Lumisokea present Mnemosyne, shedding the bass-heavy rollers found on 2014s Apophenia (OPAL 032LP), and welcoming space and tension into the fold. Most of the groundwork for the record was made during a week-long residency at the WORM studio in Rotterdam, which saw the duo make full use of the studios collection of synthesizers from the 60s and 70s. The improvisations with these peculiar machines were subsequently edited and combined with heavily-processed recordings of gamelan bells, prepared piano, cello, and acoustic drums. A meticulous two-year period of reworking and reflection followed before Lumisokea finally arrived at Mnemosyne. An exploration of the gray area of sounds that vacillate between electronic and acoustic; an effort to show their coalescence and kinship, like shadows of forgotten sonic ancestors. Shards of oblique melody merge with slow-burning rhythms; sudden changes of scenery melt into fog-drenched sonic artifacts. In Lumisokeas own words, "The whole process felt like cultivating a garden of the imagination which is in no rush to be opened to the visitors. With this full-length album we explore the more nocturne, narrative and twilight-like angle of Lumisokea. When listening back to it, we had strong images evoking times in an unidentified or unactualized past, like places and events that could have existed, but then didnt. Hence our reference to Mnemosyne, the ancient Greek goddess of Memory.”” - Alter.

Artist: M AX NOI MACH
Title: On The Edge
Format: LP
Label: Alter
Country: UK
Price: $23.00
“Philadelphia native and arch noise provocateur M Ax Noi Mach aka Robert Francisco presents On The Edge, his first full-length LP since 2010s In The Shadows. Recorded once again with the help of Arthur Rizk (Prurient, Power Trip, Cold World, et al.) at Salomons Gate in 2014, this record chronicles some of M Ax Noi Machs heaviest, most intense recordings to date; their minimal, bare immediacy comes from primal desires brought to a boiling point in the US city he calls his home. "M Ax Noi Mach has always been a primal endeavour," Francisco told Noisey in 2015, "and it definitely comes from a private place. Ive always had a fire inside of me; Ive always had a feeling that Ive had to release. Pure intuition. Pure rage, the animal let out of the cage." Musical touchstones on this eight-track album move from Nurse With Wound through Prurient and SPK. Its an unholy, clamorous din spewed up from the bowels of hell. Its the industrial trepanning of your psyche. The crunchy distortion of "Walking At Night," album highlight "Second Glance," and "Indulgence" deal in anguished, hateful vocals, with words spat out like flames of fury. Then theres the relentlessly abrasive drone of "Surrounded," the muted, glossolalia-like mutterings of "American Child," and the warped synth poetics of "White Heat"; all in all, a visceral, brutal record that absolutely refuses to let up. The shadowy Robert Francisco has been a vital artist in the US underground since the late 1990s. He has done time in the power electronics unit Angeldust as well as Veiled (with Arnau Sala of Exoteric Continent and the Anòmia label.) But M Ax Noi Mach is the nexus of his poetic, visual, and sonic pursuits; his discography stretches back to 1999 and his immensely powerful live show has won the project legendary status in electronic music circles across Europe and the US. The defining principle of M Ax Noi Machs sound is that it has resisted easy genre categorization, remaining a singular rock through waves of American underground culture; in it, the shattered pieces of several strategies of urban, extreme musics cohere in a way that only Francisco can envision.” - Alter.

Artist: OPERA MORT
Title: Dedales
Format: LP
Label: Alter
Country: UK
Price: $26.00
“Dédales is the second LP from Opéra Mort, following up their debut for the in-house label of the sadly-defunct Parisian record shop Bimbo Tower. The project is an ongoing collaboration between Jo Tanz and Laurent Gerard, two figures in the eye of Frances contemporary avant-garde underground; Jo with his Tanzprocess label and Laurent with his Élg project. They also form two-thirds of the trio Reines DAngleterre with the legendary French artist Ghedalia Tazartés, who will be returning to live performance later in 2014. The eight tracks on Dédales were edited down from a series of improvised live takes of abstract and otherworldy electronics, shifting the Opéra Mort sound into more focused territory and creating a musical language thats uniquely singular and a direct result of their close collaborative relationship.” - Alter.

Artist: PHEROMOANS, THE
Title: Im On Nights
Format: LP
Label: Alter
Country: UK
Price: $23.00
"The Pheromoans present their fourth album, Im On Nights, following 2012s Does This Guy Stack Up? (UTR 054CD/LP) and 2014s Hearts of Gold. A largely electronic affair, this ten-track LP -- recorded in Manor House, Northeast London -- refracts vocalist Russell Walkers stony poeticisms through a lens of analog synths while etching drum machine clicks and spaced-out keyboard ditties into the bigger picture. Guitars and bass still make an appearance -- helmed by Christian Butler, Alex Garran, and James Tranmer -- but theyve mostly been eclipsed by the scrappy, artificial beats that now underline Walkers diary-like, ennui-soaked rhymes. Album opener "Wizard" -- with its blocky, "Bizarre Love Triangle"-esque intro and unnerving pins-and-needles crackle -- jolts the listener awake with charges of experimental noise. Then theres the plaintive synth pads on stripped-back tearjerker "ION" and the acid squelch of "Depressed Thunderbird." Because, with Im On Nights, musical touchstones take on a myriad of cult guises, shifting from downbeat minimal wave to a hypothetical vision of Dan Treacy crooning caustically over "Mari" by Martin Rev. Thats not forgetting, of course, the influence of an outlier crop of new wave-y post-punk bands including Datblygu and Young Marble Giants. And, as always, theres the requisite nod to all things DIY. Walker says he hope this direction will create some distance between the band and a certain demographic, characterizing the album as "an attempt to alienate further the other dads at the nursery gates who kept slapping my back firmly and saying nice work keeping our music alive compadre, and trying to graft their aviator shades onto my forehead and contorting my fingers into the devils headset." With titles like "Dont Spread It Round College" and "Brads Crush," the bulk of the LPs lyrical content reaches back into Walkers 16-to-18-year-old psyche, as he explains: "It was at J. Sainsbury (Produce) in Uxbridge where I discovered the joy of working alone at night unimpeded and free to delve further into my hitherto unexplored imagination...!!" And its this theme of (oft night-time) employment that cuts through ballpoint scribbles of Walkers quotidian missives. Hailing from the holy trinity of Englands most southern locales -- London, Brighton, and Hertfordshire -- The Pheromoans consist of Russell Walker on vocals, Christian Butler on guitar and electronics, Alex Garran on bass and electronics, James Tranmer on guitar and electronics, Scott Reeves on drums and electronics, and Dan Bolger on keyboards." - Alter.

Format: 7"
Label: Alter
Country: UK
Price: $13.00
"After a rugged debut EP for Hospital Productions in 2014, Londons Shallow Sanction up the ante on Without Light. Two anthemic tracks of misanthropic, boot-stomping deathrock that mix the dramatic lurch of Killing Joke, Part 1, and Christian Death with the primitive attack of The 4-Skins, Rudimentary Peni, and early Blitz -- so in case you were wondering if that strange mix was ever a thing, it is now. Features extra synth and electronics by Zen Zsigo/Cremation Lily. Limited to 250 copies." - Alter.

Title: Kevatjuhla
Format: LP
Label: Alter
Country: UK
Price: $20.00
"Finnish multi-media artist Jan Anderzén under his Tomutonttu guise. Kevätjuhla is his second release for Alter following a split 7" with Oneohtrix Point Never in 2010 (ALT 002EP), and his first vinyl long player since 2011. Lately, Jan has been creating installation work for which the music of Kevätjuhla was initially composed. Inspired by the multitudes of mold and the microbial life, the installation Kevätjuhla was built as a listening station that sought a bond between sound, the earth, and organic matter. Sound was sent to speakers through cables, sprouting like stems from a pile of dirt with a single coleus growing on top. A graphic score of sticks, orange peel, and party debris were hung next to the installation. The score is visualized on the albums cover. Electronic and acoustic instrumentation blends together confidently and more refined than before with a minimal, razor sharp approach to production. Each track is an integral part of the records trippy cut-and-paste narrative, leaving the listener wholly unaware when one bit ends and another begins. A confounding array of musical references, such as folk, hip-hop and Yellow Magic Orchestra could be thrown up here, but with Kevätjuhla, Anderzén has ultimately created a form of music that goes beyond genre classification and fully into the realm of "other"." - Alter.

"This vinyl pairing of Finlands Tomutonttu (Kemialliset Ystäväts Jan Anderzen) and New Yorks Oneohtrix Point Never (Daniel Lopatin) was released to celebrate their joint UK tour in May 2012. Tomutonttus "Likaiset Pilvet" sees Anderzen diving deep into his archives and re-emerging with something new after a heavy editing session. OPNs "Wayland Lincoln Border" builds deep layers of warm sound from trance-like synth melodies. Released in an edition of 500 with cover art by Jan Anderzen. Artist: UNIFORM
Title: Perfect World
Format: LP
Label: Alter
Country: UK
Price: $27.00
"Uniform formed in New York City in late 2013 when old friends Ben Greenberg (Hubble, The Men, Pygmy Shrews) and Michael Berdan (York Factory Complaint, Drunkdriver, Believer/Law) realized they lived on the same street. Their impulsive collaboration quickly yielded the 2014 Our Blood/Of Sound Mind and Body single. The six tracks that make up the equally abrasive but more refined Perfect World have been coming together between tours and work ever since. The music that Greenberg and Berdan conjure up under the Uniform moniker is immediate, aggressive, and even primal in form, but it plumbs untold depths. Berdans venomous voice mines deeply personal themes of resentment, regret, reflection, and addiction over the hum of Greenbergs almost impossibly disciplined guitar, bass synth, and drum machine lines. Greenberg uses the word "templatized" to describe their approach to writing songs for Uniform. "Theres this set bunch of gear to create sounds, and it only creates sound through a certain process, or within its own limitations," Greenberg says. "The goal of songwriting is to see how many different kinds of sounds you can get from the same basic process and machine." On Perfect World, that machine is firing on all cylinders. The guitar is run through a cheap 80s preamp marketed to metal kids. The drum machine is equally no-frills, an Akai XR20 that Greenberg says "most people wouldnt want to keep around." These humble components are combined with noisy synth and Berdans profound howling to form something much greater. Post-punk, synthpunk, and industrial traditions are borrowed from as needed, but the constraints placed on the process mean the result is unique to Uniform. Berdan describes his lyrics as the consequence of feeling "so full of pain, confusion, deep selfishness, and general animosity that you make some horrible mistakes and have to learn how to forgive yourself for them." Perfect World feels like the sum of all that pain and confusion, but it also feels like the catharsis." - Alter.

"At this point in time Richard Youngs should need no introduction. Through his vast discography (spanning over 20 years), he has created a fascinating body of work which has found a home on labels such as Forced Exposure, VHF, Jagjaguar and his own No Fans imprint. Like all great artists, Richards work is hard to pin down and continues to evolve, mutate, and blossom into new forms, while at the same time bearing a unique characteristic that lets you know it could be by no-one else. Split into two parts, Rurtain is a new electronic piece which picks up from where the Core to the Brave LP on Root Strata left off, but taking a more abstract road into something more skeletal and strange. In the first part, broken beats cluster around minimal hits of percussion and wordless vocals that sound like theyre trapped in a vacuum, evoking a slightly unsettling atmosphere. Things become a little more celebratory in the second part with the addition of some very erratic organ playing, giving an ecstatic and almost "free-jazz" feel to the piece. The B-side features three very different interpretations of Richards originals by Neil Campbell (Astral Social Club), John Clyde-Evans and Daniel Lopatin (Oneohtrix Point Never). Neils version expands the organ of the second piece into a huge kaleidoscopic drone, while John hones in on the woodblock and percussion to make something more metallic and abrupt. Finally, Daniel Lopatin closes the LP grandly by adding violent stabs of digital synth and melancholic guitar-playing to Richards voice, almost creating a kind of futuristic ballad. Five tracks of unclassifiable electronics, limited to 300 copies. Recorded by Richard Youngs, Neil Campbell, John Clyde-Evans and Daniel Lopatin in Glasgow, Yorkshire and New York, 2011 - 2012. Mastered by John Hannon at No Recording Studio and cut by Rashad Becker at Dubplates & Mastering." - Alter.
