Artist: FRIDAY GROUP
Title: Friday Group
Format: LP
Label: Beta-Lactam Ring
Country: USA
Price: $20.00
LP version. "From out of the Great Republic of Texas, and a new side project from Tom Carter (Charalambides), rises a lone star called Friday Group. In a seemingly appropriate gesture, the opening scherzo of droney solo guitar twang blows dusty debris across the speakers, as if a small sand storm in a remote part of Amarillo. With wind wrestling loose gutters and flat chimes, the first movement is almost a weird paean to Ry Cooders desolate Paris Texas score. Axe attacks hover thick and dragging in the hazy distance, strings sounding as if played a single wind at a time. Jittery, slithery, prepared warbled tremolos flutter warm in extended notes that drip like old paint. If youve never had the pleasure, the later addition of harmonium and the further devolution of the guitar into howling halos of rusty hinges is virtually the embodiment of a drive through western Texas. Slow motion, spacious landscapes of thirsty air and lazy lizards." - Beta-Lactam Ring.

Artist: ILITCH
Title: Un Jour Comme Tant Dautres
Format: CD
Label: Beta-Lactam Ring
Country: USA
Price: $16.00
"Dieu has smiled upon us, for a previously shelved early album (1975) by ILITCH finally has its jour in the soleil. THIERRY MULLERs strange musical arc is further enriched and confounded by this exploratory cosmic release. A brilliant mix of Krauty space groans and experimentalism (see also Conrad Schnitzler and Ash Ra Temple, etc) and the progressive electronics of Igor Wakhevitch. There is some psych in the folds, and the album is tripped-out all over. Full of small sounds underneath mystical and shimmering beds of loping electronic waves. It sounds like it was made three galaxies over (isnt that where France is?). Six tracks of deep galactics (or is it a journey through another planets Hell?). One persons Enfer is anothers Ciel. Limited edition of 300 copies." - Beta-Lactam Ring.

Format: CD

Edition of 500 copies, includes two previously unreleased bonus tracks recorded during the same sessions." - Beta-Lactam Ring.

Artist: KALMA, ARIEL
Title: Osmose
Format: CD
Label: Beta-Lactam Ring
Country: USA
Price: $14.00
"Ariel Kalmas magical and weird Osmose originally released in 1978 masterfully matches Richard Tintis rainforest field recordings with Ariels left field minimalist compositional ideas. Rather than simply relying on the rainforest sounds providing a pleasant backdrop to the drones, the drones interplay with the pitches of the natural sounds to create melancholic, Popol Vuh like grandeurs. The natural chirps and creaks blend with the music to become similar to ambient loops themselves; such that their very tonal nature shifts from being recognizable jungle sounds, frequently phasing into blurred rhythmic elements under the electronic parts. Ariels musical minimalism avoids being serialist or academic, despite being part of the INA GRM studios for many years. So, neither is it concrete like Parmeggiani or Risset, nor is it classical like Philip Glass or Michael Nyman. If anything, Ariels music is deeply cosmic, sometimes even a bit psych, ala the great Krauts of yore: old Tangerine Dream, Sand, Cluster etc. His cathedral like tones and running counterpoints actually give the rainforest noise a sinister edge. The music absolutely subverts the traditional idea of the rainforest as that of a happy hunting ground for cause riddled yuppies with Benzes full of Kruggerrands. Osmose reminds that not only is the rainforest a place of awe inspiring beauty, but it is also something very dense and alien. It is a place of removal; it is a place of isolation; it is a kind of inner space; it is an extraordinary and surreal church of sorts; and it is deadly. The album has a progression thats almost a story in toto, where the next rise is finally crossed revealing the huge, seemingly impenetrable expanse of lush greens. The expanse is then explored with wide eyed wonder until the guide dies and the companions start succumbing to fever, ague, snakes and unseen primitives at home in the shadows. Appended by 3 previously unreleased tracks from the same sessions, this reissue finally allows the rainforest to live up to its natural state of untamed jungle." - Beta-Lactam Ring.

Artist: KEMIALLISET YSTAVAT
Title: Alkuhärkä
Format: LP
Label: Beta-Lactam Ring
Country: USA
Price: $24.50
"Ed. of 400 copies on 220 gm vinyl. KYs medieval ministrations make the Weird America movement seem like a furry load of Clay Aikens. This latest opus plots out like a secret musical map through a Bosch painting. It is not a horror show by any means. It is the sound of losing time and of losing bearings. A microverse full of familiar landmarks, populated by improbably strange shapes and beings. This could be Heaven; this could be Hell. Who are we to say which is weirder? What if Ilhan Mimaroglu traveled with Chaucer? What if Parmegianni was in the David Monroe Consort? What if In Gowan Ring got busy with Volcano The Bear? KYs psychedelic fusion of folk and musique concrete could almost be a sketch of the birth of music itself." - Beta-Lactam Ring.

""At last, a chemical spill good enough to eat. KEMIALLISET YST?V?T ("Chemical Friends") have previously spread their royal jelly in small doses with a number of micro-pressings. KY, besides being, like, totally rad, are one the best working proponents of acid folk today. The band display a natural knack for creating organic and moving musics out of what could by all rights be a pile of instrumental compost. Their sensibilities can be traced to classic forebears such as Emtidi, Comus, Broeselmaschine etc., while their skewed and rather awkward sense of harmony also owes some small debt to The Residents, mid-period Nocturnal Emmissions (World Is My Womb) and Makers Of The Dead Travel Fast. Medieval meets Appalachan mountain music whilst still reeling from the effects of that strange moldy bread."

Artist: LSD MARCH
Title: Nikutai No Tubomi
Format: Double CD
Label: Beta-Lactam Ring
Country: USA
Price: $18.00
A double-CD edition of 500 numbered copies in a full-color book bound case. "It gets so lonely in the belly of a whale. But the acoustics are fantastic. The pitch and yaw of its cavernous gut lowing with a long, guttural song burst. This is met by a loud, wailing which drone swells up as millions of gallons pass through tons of ambergris. These massive internal sound collisions resonate into a monstrous feedback of even greater proportion than the beast itself. And Jonah smiles. This is the sound of LSD MARCH. Be the body of Christ and let the whale take of YOU. LSD March is a Japanese psychedelic rock group, based in the city of Himeji. It is led by singer and guitarist SHINSUKE MICHISHITA. The group is named after a track by krautrock group Guru Guru. Michishita has also played with Magura Mozart and Doodles." - Beta-Lactam Ring.

Artist: NURSE WITH WOUND/JIM OROURKE
Title: Angry Eelectric Finger 1
Format: LP
Label: Beta-Lactam Ring
Country: USA
Price: $24.00
Vinyl edition, limited to 600 copies. Original material by NWW (Stephen Stapleton and Colin Potter), recorded 2001-3. "Lovingly dissected, fertilized and re-grown by Jim ORourke 2003." Flute and sax by Hansi Fischer and Tim Belbe of Xhol Caravan. Apocalyptic guitar by David Tibet. "The NWW/Jim ORourke duumvirate finger points to a brilliant and long overdue marriage. Their consummation has produced an ambient masterpiece; something of a hermaphroditic hybrid between Soliloquy For Lilith/Spiral Insana and Jims previous Disengage/Tamper." - Beta-Lactam Ring.

Artist: TOMUTONTTU
Title: Tomutonttu
Format: LP
Label: Beta-Lactam Ring
Country: USA
Price: $24.50
"Ed. of 300 copies on 220 gm vinyl. Kemialliset Ystävät member Tomutonttu (Jan Anderzén) plays a bit like Dome to KYs Wire. The Ystävät-ness is there, but stripped down to the frame with a minimal synth breeze blowing through it. Beautifully lyrical in its layered abstractions, there is a sort of finely hewn composite of experimental dada electronics (ala early, early, early Die Todliche Doris or early, early, early P16.D4) and composerly elements (ala Rimarimba, Andrew Poppy or Meredith Monk). A few little Kraut-isms top off the tonic at no extra charge. Oh, and theres a bit that gets all spacey and chirpy like when the Virgin Prunes go completely bonkers (thats sure a helpful reference point... well, we like it). Basically, this is the music that the mothership had in the tape deck just before dropping Kemialliset Ystävät off in the 12th century." - Beta-Lactam Ring.

Artist: VOLCANO THE BEAR
Title: All the Paint I Can Breathe
Format: 10"
Label: Beta-Lactam Ring
Country: USA
Price: $16.00
"This 10" mini album presents some of VTBs very earliest recordings. The sessions seem to indicate that VTB enjoyed a particularly powerful vintage of Winsor-Newton cadmiums while recording. And for lack of VTB really repeating themselves, I can only paint an abstract portrait of the present opus. Their obsession with small sounds is in place and they already make for a crack improv ensemble, giving their pigment soaked inventions the kind of life that beckons many repeat listens. ATPICB is comprised in nearly equal parts of surrealist/dada sound sculptures and of minimal wave/prog canvases. All tracks were culled from the earliest VTB tapes of 1996." - Beta-Lactam Ring.
