Artist: Ø (MIKA VAINIO)
Title: Kantamoinen
Format: Double LP
Label: Boomkat Editions
Country: UK
Price: $27.00
"Boomkat Editions present the first vinyl version of Mika Vainios (Pan Sonic) Kantamoinen. It was originally recorded between 1999 and 2004 and issued on CD only under his revered Ø alias for Finlands Sähkö Recordings in 2005. It is re-sequenced here for the double LP format. Kantamoinen is perhaps the most intimately beautiful yet little known LP in the Ø canon, bridging the gap between his classic 90s minimal techno productions - compiled in the vital Metri (1994) and Olento (1996) collections - and the projects subsequent turn to more ambient, cosmic and dub-wise dimensions in the coolly brilliant Oleva (2008) and Konstellaatio (2013) albums. The album is a go-to disc for hazy daydreaming and post-club head salvage alike, drifting between iced out instrumental rhythms and chasmic spaces interspersed with moments of indelibly heart-rending melody. Taking in 16 tracks in just under 50 minutes, its notable for including a number of exquisitely succinct - or tantalizingly short - glimpses of Vainio at his sweetest, even most sentimental, especially with the breathtaking "Tuulessa / In Wind" and the frosted harmonies of "Talven Henki / Winter Spirit", as well as the rare appearance of vocals (the voice of Oskar Sala recorded by Hans Ulrich Obrist) in the armchair transportation of "Äänikuva / Sound Picture". Vacillating poignant emotive clarity with forlorn abstraction, this expansion and contraction between deep, wide and relatively longer-form pieces, and a high frequency of shorter, starry-eyed passages, lends the album a more broken, strangely resolved flow than many other Mika Vainio records, and with a twinkling luster that refocuses the ear with an ancient yet timeless sort of depth perception and atemporal appeal. Its an often sublime and necessary addition to any collection of classic ambient electronica and a firm reminder of Mika Vainios full spectrum electronic dominance and purity. Mastered by Denis Blackham. 45rpm cut by Christoph Grote-Beverborg @ D&M, Berlin." - Boomkat Editions.

Artist: BELLOWS
Title: Rustl
Format: LP
Label: Boomkat Editions
Country: UK
Price: $21.00
"Italian electro-acoustic maestros Giuseppe Ielasi and Nicola Ratti aka Bellows serve up an engrossing, labyrinthine LP of freeform concrète dub. Rustl is Bellows fourth side, following a critically acclaimed trio of albums released since 2007 for Entracte, Planam and Kning Disc, and also follows Boomkat Editions last release, by another Milanese artist, Lorenzo Senni, which was coincidentally also mastered by Giuseppe Ielasi (BKEDIT 010LP). In a slight change from Bellows usual working method, Rustl represents a nimbly frayed sound much closer to what they do in a live situation. Using a few cassette players with tape loops animated by a couple of effects and recorded direct to two-track tape with no overdubs or mixing, they improvise ten viscous, amorphous plays framed by deep, bubbling subs, skittish percussions, and wheezing ferric abstractions with the most uncanny grasp of dub space. Their haptic, small sounds reveal tiny new sleights and discordant quarks with every listen, offering something more akin to a petri dish of live, kinetic cultures than the more fixed forms of their previous slabs. RIYL Senufo Editions, Alva Noto, Actress, Pole, Bernard Parmegiani. Cut at Dubplates & Mastering, Berlin. Edition of 300." - Boomkat Editions.
