Artist: BLITHE SONS
Title: The Great Orthochromatic Wheel
Format: LP
Label: Family Vineyard
Country: USA
Price: $16.00
"The Great Orthochromatic Wheel is The Blithe Sons first full-length release since 2004. In the years since the California duo of Loren Chasse and Glenn Donaldson may have traversed poppy fields and swam to aqua cities though mostly theyve remained active with their Jewelled Antler offshoots: Ov, Of, and Child Readers (Chasse) or Skygreen Leopards and Flying Canon (Donaldson) and both in Thuja. These five songs combine natures melodic pull and minimalist song forms summoned by a miniature backyard orchestra of acoustic guitar, vocals, harmonium, drums, and a whispering sea breeze. Each LP side flaunts a different depth of the Sons, one recorded outdoors and the other inside; one organic slow-motion folk and the other a thick honeycomb drone. Each 500 copies contain a download coupon for MP3 version of the album." - Family Vineyard

Artist: CONNORS, LOREN
Title: Blues: The Dark Paintings of Mark Rothko
Format: LP
Label: Family Vineyard
Country: USA
Price: $15.00
"Blues: The Dark Paintings of Mark Rothko is one of Loren Connors most cherished and sought after albums. Originally released in a handmade edition of 200 or so copies on Connors own St. Joan imprint in January 1990 under the name Guitar Roberts -- Blues has been unavailable in any form until now.
At time of its release, Connors was still an inscrutable guitarist whose matchless and alien rendering of the blues was just gaining recognition despite more than a dozen solo and collaborative releases since 1978. Connors classic, song-based In Pittsburgh had only been available for three months when Blues welcomed the new decade with its reformation of the blues as minimalist lines and tone; a compound of influences spanning Louisiana guitarist Robert Pete Williams to painter Mark Rothko.
"Moving with the slow, stately weirdom we expect of Connors late 80s sound, the music is all shards, all pokes in the eye, as though Rothkos gray scale had exploded, sending shrapnelized paint rocketing through your brain," music historian Byron Coley writes in the liner notes of this reissue. "Just as Connors notes ricochet hauntedly through its recesses."
For this reissue, engineer Taylor Deupree restored the audio to Connors" specifications of how these seven instrumentals were intended to sound. Cover art is an untitled 1969 Rothko work -- a painting that influenced the album. The original LP jacket is replicated as a glossy inner sleeve. New liner notes by Coley chart Connors development and the influence Rothko had on him as a guitarist. Pressed on pristine 150-gram vinyl by Quality Record Pressing in an 800 edition; includes download coupon." - Family Vineyard.

Title: The Curse of Midnight Mary
Format: LP
Label: Family Vineyard
Country: USA
Price: $13.00
"In 1981 guitarist Loren Connors took his tape recorder to the graveyard where the legendary Midnight Marys grave lies in New Haven, Connecticut. The curse is: Anyone who gets caught in her graveyard past midnight will die the next day. But Connors, like a young fool, taped in that place, making this album. Lost and forgotten, a cassette of this music -- made at Evergreen Cemetery -- was found by chance in 2008. Recorded between Connors eight volume Unaccompanied Acoustic Guitar Improvisations LP series and the folk albums he would make with Tom Hanford and Kath Bloom, these nine pieces meld those distinct, haunting styles. Connors, singing in a trance like moan, reforms the Mississippi Delta blues on acoustic guitar with flashes of melodic hooks and a percussive guitar style that erupts into boogie-woogie riffs and other world spirituals. Its an album for followers of Connors spine tingling solo albums and his collaborations with Suzanne Langille or Jandek. Devotees of early 20th Century blues artists such as Blind Willie Johnson or Charley Patton will be equally enthralled. A rare and essential peak into the still mysterious early years of this American guitar master." -- Family Vineyard.

Title: The Departing Of A Dream
Format: LP
Label: Family Vineyard
Country: USA
Price: $16.00
"Vinyl reissue of master guitarist Loren Connors modern classic The Departing of a Dream -- the first of what would become a three volume series based loosely as tribute to Miles Davis "He Loved Him Madly." This album finds Connors exploring slowly churned darkened hues -- each collapsing onto themselves like echoes of Miles muted trumpet and Connors signature ghost melodies. Since the late 1970s, Connors use of haunted delta blues, minimalism and compositional underpinnings have become an avant-garde style synonymous to him. When The Departing of a Dream was released as a CD in 2002 it signaled a dramatic growth in Connors sound by combining electric, acoustic and bass guitar with the unsettling ménage of subtle percussion and ambient hiss. Remastered from the master tape this 180 gram LP extends the closing two part suite For NY 9/11/01 with a bonus track. Comes with download code." - Family Vineyard.

Title: Light
Format: 12"
Label: Family Vineyard
Country: USA
Price: $16.00
"Debut release by the perfectly matched guitar duo of Loren Connors and Clint Heidorn, recorded at Our Lady of Lebanon Cathedral in Brooklyn. Light is one-sided, clear vinyl 12” packaged with two pieces of Connors’ art -- a detail of a recontextualized Matisse painting. One piece is transparent plastic, the other paper. Together, the opaque block of 11-inch x 11-inch sheets are intended to be hung in your window so the light can illuminate the hidden colors. Numbered edition of 300 copies." - Family Vineyard.

Artist: FLAHERTY, PAUL & CHRIS CORSANO
Title: The Beloved Music
Format: CD
Label: Family Vineyard
Country: USA
Price: $14.50
"The most thoroughly realized blueprint for a post-hardcore take on improvised jazz to date from the duo of legendarily long-serving New England saxophonist Paul Flaherty and young firebrand drummer Chris Corsano. Forsaking the call and response modes of countless improvising ensembles, the duo deal more in a simultaneity of sound, an elemental non-stop gush of ideas, rhythms and epiglottal forms that at points feels like a small-group response to the orchestral conceptions of the Peter Brotzmann and John Coltrane big-bands as much as epochal duo deals like the Rashied Ali/Frank Lowe and Muhammad Ali/Frank Wright sides."  - Family Vineyard.

Artist: FOOLE, DREDD
Title: Daze On The Mounts
Format: CD
Label: Family Vineyard
Country: USA
Price: $14.00
"Hey, smooch! The FOOLE, aka DAN IRETON, has finally come out and ended a near decade of silence and Daze on the Mounts, a spiraling three-dimensional crest of the so-called avant-folk expression, is the celebratory homecoming. Originally a limited 2004 CDR, this reissue presents the colossal side for all. In collaboration with MATT VALENTINE and ERIKA ELDER (MV/EE, BUMMER ROAD, TOWER RECORDINGS), two of modern-times purest interstellar travelers, Dredd Foole bounds between Tim Buckley-esque bellow and a hyper-extended take on the song form (a dewy mash of Ra-space and Vermont-lore) alongside environmental treatments (harmonica, synthesizer, percussion) and his own acoustic guitar work to fully transcend limitations. From the visceral 80s garage days with THE DIN to becoming a beacon for many a free folk explorer, the Foole remains a bona fide master of universal revelation." - Family Vineyard.

Artist: HUMAN SKAB
Title: Stay Thirsty
Format: LP
Label: Family Vineyard
Country: USA
Price: $17.00
"Human Skab was a 10-year old singer from Elma, Washington. Stay Thirsty is one of a half-dozen or so cassettes recorded by the soccer player during the mid-late 1980s and injected into the underground postal network of cassette traders, zine scribes, DJs, and freak seekers. In a way, this is Skabs response to He-Man, the smoldering Cold War, living near the abandoned Satsop Nuclear Plant, and heavy metal (the title has gotta be response to Twisted Sisters classic Stay Hungry LP!). Rumors maintain Human Skab opened for David Thomas at the Capitol Theatre in Olympia, Washington before focusing on baseball card collecting and growin out his mohawk. As Bruce Pavitt wrote in the 1986 Sub Pop zine: the Skab zips around the living room shooting toy guns. He hits the family piano with his fists. He tries real hard to play guitar. He makes up songs about terrorism and radiation and throwing rocks at windows. Cool! Now, 23 years later this is the first time any of the Skabs rare recordings have been reissued or even made available outside of dusty, personal collections. You cant find this stuff on blogs. Family Vineyard will follow up this ultra-limited 105 edition LP with a full-length CD reissue of the stunning and epic Thunder Hips and Saddle Bags cassette, expanded with a bonus radio interview from the time, in late 2009. Cmon, baby mohawk!" - Family Vineyard. Limited to 105 copies.

Artist: HUMAN SKAB
Title: Thunder Hips And Saddle Bags
Format: LP
Label: Family Vineyard
Country: USA
Price: $15.00
"Human Skab was a 10-year old boy from Elma, Washington who played African music with buckets and spoons. Thunder Hips and Saddle Bags is a 1986 cassette recorded by young Travis Roberts with his neighborhood pals and siblings. It was injected into the underground network of tape traders, zine scribes, college DJs, and freak seekers who were universally bowled over by its bewildering and utterly poignant snapshot of the mid-1980s. Skabs music -- an orchestration of pots n pans, three string guitar, poorly-tuned upright piano, broken bottles, toy guns, a garden rake, and a "Snake Mountain" microphone -- is a response to fear of nuclear war with the Soviet Union, He-Man cartoons, Twisted Sister, the coolness of dinosaurs, the uncoolness of John Wayne, and Ronald Reagan. Roberts captures the fervor of do-it yourself ethos, punk energy and the rawness of early American folk by acting on his wild child imagination and enigmatic sense of song. These rare recordings have never been made widely available until now. This reissue includes the complete 1986 cassette. The CD and MP3 version contain a bonus 1987 radio interview. The 16-page booklet in the 500 edition LP and CD contains liner notes by Roberts and Cousin Franky along with many full-color photographs and news clippings. As Bruce Pavitt wrote in the 1986 Sub Pop zine: the Skab zips around the living room shooting toy guns. He hits the family piano with his fists. He tries real hard to play guitar. He makes up songs about terrorism and radiation and throwing rocks at windows. Cool!" - Family Vineyard.

Artist: JAILBREAK
Title: The Rocker
Format: LP
Label: Family Vineyard
Country: USA
Price: $15.00
"Jailbreak is the duo of pedal steel/vocalist Heather Leigh and drummer Chris Corsano. The name foregrounds the kind of outlaw violence with which the two reformulate rock/roll instants by bringing free jazz fire power to amp-humping sex beats. Their musical alliance goes all the way back to the legendary Brattleboro Free Folk Fest, the birthplace of the New Weird America, where Corsano and his long-term saxophone partner Paul Flaherty joined Leigh and Christina Carter for a quartet show that took the roof off the building and the skin off their fingers. Since then Corsano and Leigh have worked together as part of Taurpis Tula and as members of Thurston Moores Dream/Aktion Unit. So, who better to describe this 700 edition debut LP, than Mr. Flaherty: For those of you whove been worried that the Free Power Noize scene has become a little too tame, (and seriously who isnt somewhat concerned about that), a new screamin creamin duo -- Jailbreak -- expoldes to the rescue. The Rocker is a blast-furnace of blisteringly joyous witch-howling assaults on the essence of whips and chains and repressive injustice gone legal. Both of these magisterial musicians are capable of extreme dynamics and subtleties, but those concepts dont get in the way of this monster-truck of a record. And why should they when drums and guitar can slash and burn in a riotous electric smash fest like this crazed merry madcap of an album. Over the top . . . Way!" - Family Vineyard.

Artist: KID MILLIONS & JIM SAUTER
Title: Fountain
Format: LP
Label: Family Vineyard
Country: USA
Price: $12.00
“Drummer Kid Millions and saxophonist Jim Sauter vaporize the annals of rock n roll n jazz into pulsating feedback/propulsion on Fountain -- their second album.  Across six pieces they explore massively hypnotic tonal harmonics and torrential rhythms. This is hardcore abstraction from two New York sherpas yanking us headlong into a third-eye odyssey, surpassing altitudes merely attempted by others. Kid is founding member of Oneida and the ace behind the percussion-focusedMan Forever. Sauter is synonymous with the 35-year juggernautBorbetomagus -- pioneers of sound/jazz vivisection and inexorable vision. Since 2012 these two pushed forth this magnificent grandeur, merging physical power/sweat and sculpted electricity/stretched skins. While both are known for feats of extreme artistic endurance, as a duo they opt for ferocious concentration -- a savage pop-style of density and texture. Comparisons to any live-free-or-die drum-sax duo is moot here. In whiffs, Fountain is maybe reminiscent of Fushitsushas heaviest but more likely the final descent of that plane full of rugby players who gobbled each other up after crashin into the Andes in 72. Either way, it makes asses shake. As an omnipotent duo, neither Kid or Sauter anchors the other, instead they smash the fulcrum and spin perpetually in free-fall. Sauter extracts new techniques and structures from his howling amplified tenor sax. On “Turkana” he builds layers of gnarled drones like some goddamn Dream Syndicate lasagna, while on “Vertical Sprint” Kid weaves polyrhythms and stuttering cross-beats around/into the heart of horn shards. Theres zero gravity here.” - Family Vineyard.

Artist: LITTLE HOWLIN WOLF
Title: Cool Truth
Format: LP
Label: Family Vineyard
Country: USA
Price: $15.00
“Reissue of the 1985 LP by Chicago street musician, bluesman, actor, storyteller and truth seeker known as Little Howlin Wolf. Wolf is also a true outsider, whose wrenching soulfulness and fire-brained intensity have been captured in a breadcrumb trail of confounding and intentionally obscure self-released records.

In the late 1960s Wolf -- born James Pobiega in 1950 -- was already a saxophone wailing fixture at the legendary Chicago hangout, Maxwell Street Market. By the mid-1980s he released nearly three dozen 45s. Those singles are sprawling journeys into Wolfs world vision, as told through his gravelly voice and an array of instruments in styles and influences not limited to: American Indian, Polish and gypsy folk musics, Voodoo, vocal chants, blues, calypso and avant jazz. Often, its all filtered through overdubbed abstraction.

Wolf issued two LPs collecting some of those singles -- The Guardian (1982) and Cool Truth (1985) -- both now reissued by Family Vineyard.

Cool Truth is a damaged, hallucinatory journey that radiates from a Chicago blues core. Performing most, if not all, the instruments himself -- sax, guitar, harmonica, marimba, etc. -- Wolf speaks in tongues, hollers and serenades. The 12 songs recorded between 1979 and 1983 alternate between Sun Ra-style orchestration and primitive forms to more traditional blues takes.

This reissue features replicated LP jackets, with Wolfs original transcendent liner notes, and labels bearing the Solidarity Solidarnosc Records name; never before seen photos; new essay by ethnomusicologist/ Canary Records head Ian Nagoski; and download coupon. Timothy Stollenwerk remastered the audio as sourced from multiple copies of the records as the master tapes were destroyed in a fire.” - Family Vineyard.

"Reissue of the 1982 LP by Chicago street musician, bluesman, actor, storyteller and truth seeker known as Little Howlin Wolf. A baffling, hyper-creative statement recorded between 1976 and 1982. It’s also vastly sincere and some of Wolf’s most accessible and deeply emotional songs, yet it orbits a universe known only by the likes of Captain Beefheart or Albert Ayler. Features replicated LP jackets, Wolf’s original liner notes, never before seen photos and new essay by ethnomusicologist/ Canary Records head Ian Nagoski. " - Family Vineyard
