Artist: ASHTRAY NAVIGATIONS
Title: The Love That Whirrs
Format: CD
Label: Last Visible Dog
Country: USA
Price: $12.50
"English artist Phil Todd has been an underground presence for well over a decade, engaging in countless groups and collaborations, signing on as an occasional member of Vibracathedral Orchestra and Sunroof!, and releasing numerous documents of dissident art via his Betley Welcomes Careful Drivers and Memoirs of an Aesthete labels. Todds major achievement, though, is his ongoing solo project Ashtray Navigations. Releasing a baffling amount of cassettes, LPs, CDs and CD-Rs, Todd has refined a singular take on modern sound construction that references the dynamics of rock, the emotional evisceration of blues and the white-light intensity of noise." - Last Visible Dog.

Artist: DAVENPORT
Title: Free Country
Format: CD
Label: Last Visible Dog
Country: USA
Price: $12.50
"Dirt-soaked dirges and country-fried jams filter through the backwoods of their Madison, Wisconsin home on Free Country . This is the beginning. This is the moment Davenport was truly born. Clay Ruby and his clan bring us an album full of diamonds and pearls. Conjuring up the spirits of No Neck Blues Band and Jackie-O Motherfucker, Ruby and his primitive choir sing late into the night. The entire proceedings are a celebration of the journey. Where it leads is of no consequence, but embarking on a trek to find something new is what matters." - Last Visible Dog.

Artist: FURSAXA
Title: Amulet
Format: CD
Label: Last Visible Dog
Country: USA
Price: $12.50
"Fursaxa has never quite turned out a studio album that reflected the power and awe of her live shows. Instead, fans have had only a series of tour CD-Rs as compensation for this deficiency in her output. Rectifying this problem (at least in part), comes the CD reissue of Amulet along with half of her previous tour CD-R, From the Cult of Moon Mountain . This hour plus selection of live material captures Fursaxa at her very best, and will hopefully make believers of those who havent yet had a chance to catch her during her tours. Two of the tracks include feature extra fuzz and wah from Bardo Ponds Michael and John Gibbons! This is the Fursaxa that people need to hear, raw and intoxicating; beautiful and perhaps still a little bit dangerous." - Last Visible Dog.

Artist: FUTURIANS
Title: Chaos Manner
Format: LP
Label: Last Visible Dog
Country: USA
Price: $12.00

Artist: MIMINOKOTO
Title: Live
Format: CD
Label: Last Visible Dog
Country: USA
Price: $12.50
"Rising from the ashes of Tokyo Velvets obsessives and Keiji Haino collaborators Broomdusters, Miminokoto are a more immediately auraless proposition. Their dynamic blues constructions are held together by taut, clean guitar lines coiling and snapping around a rhythm section thats liable to alter course in mid-air. The hopping patterns beaten out by Ex-White Heaven bassist and drummer Koji Shimura anchor Kawaguchis machine gun guitar, which stutters in a polyglot tongue drawing equally from Rory Gallagher, Jerry Garcia and Lou Reed. But Kawaguchis remarkable vocal most defines Minokotos sound, his distressed moan giving every track the urgency of deathbed blues." - The Wire.

Artist: MIMINOKOTO
Title: Orange Garage
Format: CD
Label: Last Visible Dog
Country: USA
Price: $12.50
"At this late date, anyone who hasnt yet heard of Miminokoto simply hasnt been paying attention to (or has no interest in) the Japanese psychedelic underground. In all respects a super-group (with ties to LSD-March, White Heaven, Broom Dusters, Aihiyo, Chie Mukai, High Rise, etc.), Miminokoto has quickly earned a name for itself with its restrained, Velvets-influenced sound (as opposed to the all-in-the-red, fuzzed-out approach so common to so many other Japanese psychedelic groups). With most of their releases available only from Japan (at high import prices), Last Visible Dog once again offers a domestic-priced alternative in the form of Orange Garage, a top-notch live release that rivals Miminokotos studio efforts. Featuring three songs unavailable anywhere else (one over 16 minutes), and revamped heavier versions of some of the bands best numbers, Orange Garage is perhaps Miminokotos most immediate and well-balanced release to date." - Last Visible Dog

Artist: MUDBOY
Title: This Is Folk Music
Format: CD
Label: Last Visible Dog
Country: USA
Price: $12.50
"Now heres an odd one. Mudboy makes and recreates old circuit bent church organs, customising and retrofitting old keyboards for his own nefarious means. Then he plays rich music that hints at psychedelia and drones on them, mixing in field recordings, noise and complementary sounds, and even the odd drum sound that sounds like hes been let loose on Aphex Twin circa Ambient Works 85-92 s drum machine. At times it sounds like a primitive electronica, far abstracted from the hyper-beats of so-called IDM, and reclaimed for the contemplative and wide-eyed explorers and discoverers of new territories and new states of mind." - Last Visible Dog.

Artist: RENDERERS, THE
Title: Monsters and Miasmas
Format: CD
Label: Last Visible Dog
Country: USA
Price: $13.00
"Brian Crook (from The Terminals, Max Block, solo releases) and wife Maryrose make up the long-running Renderers whos releases on Ajax/3 beads of sweat and Siltbreeze records have continued to tread a line between haunting contry-esque ballads and the brand of noise-rock for which the Terminals is known. From a review of their previous album (Ghosts of Our Vegas Lives): A charred near mythical psychedelic wasteland sparsely populated by tortured souls and twisted creatures. Brian Crook (her husband) is the perfect foil for such surrealism-meets-rustic imagery, whether lathering melting feedback on top of ghostly ballads or kicking up a slash and burn racket, captured with garage rock immediacy. ....a world where Hank Williams and Townes Van Zandt are revered as preciously as Sonic Youth, the Dead C and Can, to name but a few. A different kind of transcendance indeed. -- Lee Jackson,Womblife. Monsters and Miasmas continues upward from the foundation that the Renderers have built over the previous two decades while losing no ground from their previous accomplishments. I doubt any of us no exactly what genre this is, but theres no one out there doing what the Renderers do better." - Last Visible Dog

Artist: RST
Title: Axes
Format: CD
Label: Last Visible Dog
Country: US
Price: $12.50
"While clearly responding to the same imperatives as the nearly-contemporary Surface of the Earth, his sound effectively came out of nowhere. Indeed, at that point, one of the few things Id heard operating in the same area was Earth itself. While now the plague of black metallers and second-rate drone-istas have made this seem like a starting-point obvious to the point of being passé, 12 years ago that was far from true. So its easy now to listen to the new rst album, his third in the last decade after releases on Ecstatic Peace! and Corpus Hermeticum, and think Ive heard that before. But in fact, all youve heard is everyone who copped this shit from the originators. This immaculate blend of scrubbed and polished metallic tones, layered and sculpted like automotive bodywork of the first order, is in fact the real deal. rst had this first, and remains best at doing it, because hes kept his head down, kept off bad drugs, and continued to refine his work in relative obscurity -- not caring whether or not you know about it. Its hard not to lose yourself in this because for me it sounds like the operation of the cosmos, amplified to audibility. This is electric guitar sound with all the extraneous music stripped out. Electricity in action: natural like electro-magnetism, and devotional like the wind from the sun." --Bruce Russell.

Artist: SALA-ARHIMO
Title: Sala-Arhimo
Format: CD
Label: Last Visible Dog
Country: USA
Price: $12.50
"Islaja (Fonal) side-man and frequent tour-mate with Larkin Grimm (Secret Eye), Sala-Arhimos debut oozes a slow psychedelic radiance from a half-frozen world of hibernation. A bit of ancient Pink Floyd as reference point, perhaps some of the jazz-like moments of Fausts more gentle side, but here all comparisons end. This is another one of those you need to hear it, but theres no way to get it Finnish geniuses whose music shares much affinity with the Lal lal lal crowd (Kemialliset Ystavat, Avarus, etc.), but focuses less on the purely experimental, and more on rich, melodic drones and voice." - Last Visible Dog.

Artist: STUMPS, THE
Title: The Black Wood
Format: CD
Label: Last Visible Dog
Country: US
Price: $12.50
"The Stumps are a New Zealand based noise-rock trio made up of members Antony Milton (Pseudoarcana, The Nether Dawn, Mrtyu, etc), James Kirk (Sandoz Lab Technicians, Black Boned Angel, Gate, etc), and Stephen Clover (Palindrone, seht). Formed in Wellington in 2003, the group is known for its noisy guitar soundscapes and improvisational take on psychedelic rock music. Most often, Clover plays bass, Milton sings and plays electric guitar, and Kirk plays drums, though the group are known to expand their instrumental palette using synthesizers, field recordings, electronics, and guest musicians. With a laundry list of individual accomplishments preceding them, The Stumps bring high expectations. Theyve been compared to such seminal acts as The Dead C, Guru Guru, Acid Mothers Temple, Fushitusha, Les Rallizes Denudes, Sun Ra and the Velvet Underground, but these Kiwis have their own twist in their psychedelic cosmic explorations. They are robust and powerful; an exciting and often overwhelming listening experience. Itll burn out your eardrums and douse the flames in hot wax. But fear not, within these methodic blasts are moments of icy calm. Underneath all this chaos is a relaxed thread, keeping some semblance of order intact." - Last Visible Dog.

Artist: TERMINALS
Title: Little Things
Format: CD
Label: Last Visible Dog
Country: USA
Price: $13.00
"Perennially unrecognized and underrated; The Terminals finally established their stature in 2007 with their release Last Days of the Sun (awarded one of the top 50 albums of the year in Wire magazine.) Mixing elements of classic VU, Doors, late 70s/early 80s post punk (Wire, Joy Division, etc.) with a unique strand of New Zealand rock that has been developing in isolation since the early 80s (Vacuum, Pin Group, The Clean, etc.). Its hard to understand why it took so long for the band to garner a little attention from the critics. The early 90s saw two full-length releases from the band (Touch and Little Things). Both are seriously meaty albums with guitar distortion and drums often taking the forefront (perhaps channeling a bit of Fun House), but pinned down by Stephen Cogles Ferry-esque vocals and that NZ rock sensibility. Little Things (1995) in particular stretches out the frenzy established with Touch; Jon Dale (NZs closest thing to a rock-musicologist) claims this to be their most sophisticated stage; drawing comparisons to Charlambides and Fushitsusha, yet never fully breaking away from rock. Indeed, its worth noting that Little Things was released side-by-side with the free noise entries like Gate, Handful of Dust, etc.; but unlike those bands, there was still a core part of the Terminals that was all about songs and lyrics -- even if that format was as dense and electrified as Musica Electronic. This much-needed reissue features both some serious remastering by the band and two live bonus tracks (one a cover of Roxy Musics Both Ends Burning)." - Last Visible Dog.

Artist: TERMINALS, THE
Title: Last Days Of The Sun
Format: CD
Label: Last Visible Dog
Country: US
Price: $12.50
"Last Days of the Sun is the fifth album by long-running New Zealand avant-garage kings The Terminals. Bruce Russell has often described them as New Zealands best rock band bar none, and these days they often get called legendary and while that may have as much to do with the fact they are in their twenty-first year they continue have a big reputation for the intensity of their live performances. Last Days of the Sun is their first release since the 1997 Terminals Live CD on Medication and the 1996 7" single Medusa on Chicago label Roofbolt. It combines driving garage-rock and swirling guitar/organ interplay with dark, brooding, melodramas and quietly haunting ballads. There are twelve songs of love and anxiety, with The Terminals characteristic ebb and flow dynamics and Cogles unearthly tenor soaring right over the top." - Last Visible Dog.

Artist: TIVOL
Title: Interstellar Overbike
Format: CD
Label: Last Visible Dog
Country: USA
Price: $12.50
"New full-length release from Finnish-based Tivol; sounding like part Amon Duul 2 (think the first track on Yeti), part Blue Cheer and part High Rise." - Last Visible Dog.

Artist: UP-TIGHT
Title: Live at the Lucrezia
Format: DVD
Label: Last Visible Dog
Country: USA
Price: $17.00
"52-minute DVD (all region, all format) of Up-Tight playing at their best. Incredible sound quality, the video is close-up and personal. Unless you have been lucky enough to catch this tremendous live band on tour, this is the only way you are going to experience the real thing! Black-clad and with an ominous aura created by their distorted guitar epics, burnt-out ballads and raucous mantric jams, Up-Tight are seriously not to be messed with. Heading up the second generation of Japanese psychedelic rock acts (following on from Fushitsusha, Kosokuya and Shizuka) theyre one of the best live groups in Japan. As you might expect from their name, theres a chiselled intensity to their playing which displays some startling post-Velvets stances. With the power to lay down spontaneously loose, acid-fried and drugged garage psych jams of hypnotic guitar squall, and a line of impassioned and fathomless vocals that are capable of kicking you right in the gut, Up-Tight have a mesmeric feel to them, unmatched by any peers." 2-sided DVD that is both NTSC & PAL compatible."-Last Visible Dog

Title: Somethings #1
Format: CD
Label: Last Visible Dog
Country: USA
Price: $12.50
"Third installment for our avant-garde/free-improv/difficult listening series. Compilation of unreleased and new, challenging music assembled by Ilya Monosov. Somethings #1 features Chie Mukai, Sarah Peebles, Masayoshi Urabe, Nick Castro, Preston Swirnoff, Andrew Deutsch/John McPhee and of course Ilya Monosov himself. This collection stresses an ill-defined region between composed music and improvisation, where both elements come into play. Some of the pieces use traditional instrumentation, others use field recordings. Regardless of construction, these are all artists working at the farthest boundary of what is defined (or not yet defined) as music, hence the title of the album." - Last Visible Dog.

Artist: VAPAA
Title: Hum Hum Hum
Format: CD
Label: Last Visible Dog
Country: USA
Price: $12.50
"Vapaa is a loose collective of musicians but this recording represents the basic core group; Joel Kivela, Tiitus Petajaniemi, Keijo Virtanen and Jari-Pekka Koho. We met in Jyvaskyla, Finland in year 2003-2004 and after that we have made many records to different labels and played live shows around Finland and one tour in Europe as Keijo and the Free Players. Organic, drifting psychedelic improv without much in the way of modern equivalents. Easily compared to a few Krautrock favorites (early Amon Duul 2 and a very quiet Ash Ra Tempel) -- but in general a bit more relaxed (perhaps a little International Harvester?) For those well versed in the LVD sound, this is fairly definitive." - Last Visible Dog
