Artist: AKIYAMA, TETUZI
Title: Pre-Existence
Format: CD
Label: Locust
Country: USA
Price: $14.50
"Tetuzi Akiyama is frequently associated with the insurgent improvising community in Tokyo generated around guitarist Taku Sugimoto but to be sure his sound owes as much to a unique strain of country blues engulfed in negative space. His loosely strewn playing skirts the usual clichés of the guitar in both the free improv and trad folk scenes. Pre-Existence is a puzzling and often achingly beautiful slurred guitar meditation. Sit back & let your ears bear witness to a Zen blues of the most elemental, meditative form. This disc marks Akiyamas solo contribution to Locusts celebrated Wooden Guitar series." - Locust.

Artist: AMEN DUNES
Title: Dia
Format: LP
Label: Locust
Country: USA
Price: $18.00
"A lot of crazy shit can happen to a man when he goes solitary in a ramshackle Catskill Mountain home for an extended stretch of time -- especially for a city kind of guy. But if Amen Duness 12 tracker Dia is one possible outcome of the guy alone-in-a-cabin- story, then a little tape saturated brain frying is something we should all live comfortably with because this is a batch of seriously raw & inspired loner psych grit that owes a debt to the DIY soundz of the George Brigmans of the world. That was 2006. These days the lone wolf behind Amen Dunes -- Damon McMahon -- calls a small two room apartment overlooking the Temple of Earth in North-Central Beijing home, where he watches old men fly kites and sing opera every morning. Who knows whatll come out of that." -Locust

Artist: ANGELBLOOD
Title: Mambo Mange
Format: LP
Label: Locust
Country: USA
Price: $18.00
"Mambo Mange is the eponymous 4th & final album by a fine NY ensemble who unfortunately imploded at the peak of their game. Originally fronted by twin femme vocalists Lizzi Bougatsos (Gang Gang Dance) & celebrated visual artist Rita Ackermann, for what would be the bands final foray, the duo enlisted Anders Nilsson (Aorta), Matt Heyner (NNCK), Dave Nuss (NNCK) & Brian DeGraw (Gang Gang Dance, Cranium). Ackermanns Yoko Ono-inspired freak-outs, feline growls & orgasmic yodels and Bougatsos breathy wordless space panting over Matt the Count Heyners seriously beefy power chords, Nilssons sinewy solos, DeGraws bass thump & Nuss propulsive drumming made for the most thoroughly realized vision of Angelbloods art + metal sound. Angelblood played decidedly out of bounds & ahead of the curve. It was a risky proposition to begin with (who can get by playing heavy metal in Chelsea art galleries?) but goddamn if this isnt great music." - Locust.

Artist: APOTHECARY HYMNS
Title: Trowel And Era
Format: LP
Label: Locust
Country: USA
Price: $17.00
⿿Apothecary Hymns is the operational alias of Alex Stimmel, who also plays in the Brooklyn rock group, Lonehawk. Mr. Stimmel pulls off classic Syd Barrett moves the way most people pull off socks; combining acoustic and electric guitars to create a folk rock readymade with loner and acid proclivities. Beat that with a stick!⿝ ~Byron Coley, the Wire.

Artist: AU
Title: Recycling
Format: CD
Label: Locust
Country: USA
Price: $14.50
"Part of the Location Sound Series devoted to city sounds and reactions, were happy to present the first stateside release by the psychedelic electronic duo, AU. Based in Holland, multimedia artists Jan Borchers and Paul Klaui, naturally bring us into the soundworld of the Haag by doing what most everybody there does -- they ride their bikes. The twist in the spoke is that AU recorded their tour through the city and captured everything from the squeaky sound of old bicycle seats to a sudden intrusion on a street parade. The result is a fun panoramic earshot of the pace of the citys life. AUs musical response is a subdued yet loose piece incorporating elements of the field recording, analogue electronics and reverberating guitars that recall the efforts of German Krautrock bands like Cluster or a mellowed out Faust." - Locust

Artist: BEGUSHKIN
Title: Kings Curse
Format: LP
Label: Locust
Country: USA
Price: $18.00
"Limited edition 180 gram vinyl LP version. Recorded live to tape in two days, after a sleep deprived month of Beefheart style creative lockdown, Begushkin -- Dan Smiths 8-headed hydra -- lay to rest the twilight folk of 2007s Nightly Things and re-emerge with the wicked and strange hard rock gypsy shake of Kings Curse. Smith yells and carries on like a man possessed with tales of the damnation of a robber king and the band plays it ultra tight and ultra heavy. Kings Curse is higher-tier creep-rock." -Locust

Artist: BEN-ISRAEL, DANNY
Title: The Kathmandu Sessions
Format: CD
Label: Locust
Country: USA
Price: $14.00
"To a small circle of psychedelic music fans, the re-discovery of native Israeli, Danny Ben- Israels sole, privately released album, Chantarish 3, a few years ago was nothing short of a revelation. Despite having been sung in his native Hebrew, there was no getting away from the blissfully fuzzed out guitars and a voice that belted out resistant words like some mad cantorial singer. Now, after 35 years, Danny Ben Israels much talked about Katmandu Sessions produced for a Western audience and recorded in Tel Aviv and Austria between globetrotting stints around Europe finally sees the light of day. The seven tracks that make up the Kathmandu Sessions are nothing short if not completely over the top -- both of its time and prophetic. Every tune is delivered with that rare combination of wisdom and wonder, sung in a joyous English that brings together Tim Buckleys melancholic operatics with the lunatic vocal escapades of Mick Farren making this easily one of the true revelations for the 21st century." - Locust.

Artist: BISHOP, SIR RICHARD
Title: God Damn Religion
Format: DVD/CD
Label: Locust
Country: USA
Price: $20.00
"Official DVD release of Sir Richard Bishops cracked movie God Damn Religion. First edition comes with a bonus audio CD of the quasi soundtrack Elektronika Demonika, originally issued by Locust as a vinyl-only escapade in 2006. For centuries, man has used organized religion to control the hearts and minds (not to mention the pocketbooks) of the ignorant masses. Well, Richard Bishop has decided he would like a piece of the action. This film is a diabolical experiment in hypnotic mind control - a phantasmagoric presentation of demonic and divine imagery, meticulously assembled and designed to put the viewer into an altered state of darkened awareness. Includes original music from Elektronika Demonika, as well as unreleased material. If you ever wanted to go to hell and back, this film will get you halfway there. Some viewers may find the imagery used in this film to be disturbing, but thats the idea. Contains some strong sexual content (as all true religion should). Not for the weak-minded, faint of heart, or those suffering from occasional seizures." DVD is NTSC format, probably region free."- Locust

Title: Improvika
Format: CD
Label: Locust
Country: USA
Price: $14.50
"By trade Sir Richard Bishop is a dealer of rare occult books and fine paper ephemera. For many in the musical cosmos, he has occasion to travel the smoke filled carnie circuit as 1/3 of the Sun City Girls medicine show. But in the twilight hours of a shadow world sensed only by few, Bishop is a dazzling unaccompanied guitarist. On Improvika , Bishop rides a very tall horse through a surrealists cowboy set thats 1 part bruit Peckinpah muscularity & 2 parts illuminated Jodorowskian symbolism. A very strange place, indeed. Armed only with a single steel string wooden guitar, bare-knuckled Bishop fends off the horrors & dangers of the night with ease as he spits out glorious white robed arabesques, django inspired gypsy arcs, & latin terracotta flourishes like so many spinning tumbleweeds in a one horse town that is his alone. Improvika is Sir Richards follow up to his part on Locusts celebrated Wooden Guitar collection and second full length release after his debut on John Faheys Revenant label." - Locust.

Format: LP

"This is an essential document by one of Americas most original and inventive unaccompanied guitarists working today. While My Guitar Violently Bleeds is a splendid three piece gem in which the good sir branches out & nods to points West, East & otherworldly with the classic spaghetti western-tinged, spidery fretwork of Zurvan, to the Fushitsusha style psych decay & feedback drench of Smashana to the brilliant 25+ minute raga epic Mahavidya." - Locust. 2009 repress, now on black vinyl.

Artist: BOLOTIN, JAY
Title: Jay Bolotin
Format: LP
Label: Locust
Country: USA
Price: $20.00
"180 gram vinyl featuring new liner notes and lyrics inserts. Described by Kris Kristofferson as one of the three best songwriters in the country, Kentucky native Jay Bolotins songs have been championed by the likes of Merle Haggard and Porter Wagoner, among many others. Yet Jays eponymous debut -- released on the major subsidiary Commonwealth United label -- had the halflife of a mayfly when it went into circulation in 1970 and today it remains as phantasmic as the prairie ghosts that have long populated his native Kentucky. However hasty or uncertain the release of the album may have been some 40 years ago, one thing is certain: in a darkened room in New York City at the end of a Kentucky childhood, a 20 year old Jay Bolotin cut a singularly enchanted album of unhurried, low key loner ballads with the confidence and honesty of a seasoned journeyman. Jay Bolotin is an unqualified singer songwriter gem that will appeal to fans of Leonard Cohen, Townes Van Zandt & Alex Chilton. Features Kenny Lyon on Bass & Mark Taber on piano & harpsichord - both veterans of the Providence, Rhode Island scene, The Fugs Bobby Mason on percussion and David Mowry on guitar. Remastered & reissued for the first time since its elusive release." -Locust

Artist: BORN HELLER
Title: Born Heller
Format: CD
Label: Locust
Country: USA
Price: $14.50
Josephine Foster: (harp, mandolin, guitar); Jason Ajemian: (stand up bass). Born Heller are the earthen folk duo of Josephine Foster (Childrens Hour) & Jason Ajemian and one of the better kept secrets to emerge out of Chicagos clandestine campfires and music dens. Their sound captures an Appalachian- transatlantic folk tradition so effortlessly that if it didnt already exist, they would have had to invent it themselves. Fosters spine tingling vocal delivery has been rightly compared to the likes of British folk legend and current hipster fave, Shirley Collins. On their debut, that voice is finally given full justice by the spare rhythmic arrangements of Ajemian on strings. Recorded by Paul Oldham in Louisville Kentucky." - Locust

Artist: CYANN AND BEN
Title: Happy Like an Autumn Tree
Format: CD
Label: Locust
Country: USA
Price: $14.50
"French quartet Cyann & Ben create a dark and worrying universe tinted with melancholic beauty. Their debut album, Spring, was a hazy calliope ode. Happy Like An Autumn Tree continues to traverse the seasons with a captivating album thats as rich and beguiling as the falls harvest, bearing the short-lived fruits between the summers sweat and the winters crisp chill. Happy Like An Autumn Tree is a hypnotizing, oneiric collection of epic rock for our favorite season." - Locust

Title: Spring
Format: CD
Label: Locust
Country: USA
Price: $14.50
"The Parisian quartet, Cyann & Ben, recorded their extraordinary debut, Spring, in an isolated country house in 2002. The pastoral retreat made a perfect backdrop for Cyanns delicate, breathy female vocals and the bands organic, analogue sound. The result is a dense and lovely and often intense musical landscape that owes its sound in equal measure to epic catharsis of groups like Sigur Ros, the folk flavors of Robert Wyatt & the Canterbury folk-rock scene as it does to the exceptionally concentrated psych soundscapes of early 70s Pink Floyd." - Locust

Artist: DELAURENTI, CHRIS
Title: The Night I Met Maria C.
Format: CD
Label: Locust
Country: USA
Price: $14.50
"Locusts fifth installment of their adventurous Met Life series of city field recordings and responses brings us a tongue firmly in cheek offering from the rapid cut up techniques of Seattles Chris Delaurenti. Simply put, its a little exercise on waste and getting wasted. This field recording documents the removal of waste at a transfer station in Seattle and the response rides the pun to its excessive extreme as DeLaurenti quickly becomes a participant in the flailing and drunken fanfare at a party, raising the ever important question What on earth are we all doing! No doubt, its this style, edgy humor and raw guerrilla techniques that make DeLaurenti a sort of Fellini of the audio underworld." - Locust

Artist: DOCKSTADER, TOD
Title: 8 Electronic Pieces
Format: CD
Label: Locust
Country: USA
Price: $14.50
Reissue of a 1961 Folkways electronic music album. "Tod Dockstader assembled this terrifically unique and fresh collection of synthetic analog sound for release back in 1961. Dormant and nearly forgotten for some 40 years, Locust brings this gem back into print for another go around you wont want to miss out on. Dockstader has been characterized by many as a true antecedent to the techno and ambient electro scenes popularized by the likes of Aphex Twin, a visionary figure who the Washington Post has called One of the Giants in his Field. This brand new re-edition features original notes, newly remastered sound and new liner notes by Jason Ankeny with present-day reflections by Dockstader himself." - Locust

Title: Object 1
Format: CD
Label: Locust
Country: USA
Price: $14.50
"The Object series is Locust Musics shot at documenting worldwide currents in creative improvisation and composition but as you may expect by now, were doing it with a twist. For each release in this ongoing series, weve worked with the musicians to arrive at audio-visual ties between sounds and objects that may indicate a visual tie to the music. In this case, a bowling ball and a brillo pad grace the cover. Object 1 teams together trumpeter Axel Dorner, an internationally celebrated German instrumentalist of prodigious technique and deep sensitivity, with one of the hardest working musicians and organizers in Chicago, Cellist Fred Lonberg-Holm (The Brotzmann Tentet, The Lightbox Orchestra). Together they produce a series of 5 remarkable pieces that brew and percolate into a deeply tactical tableau of raw yet calculated /creative sound." - Locust

Artist: ENKIDU
Title: Live In Kyoto
Format: 2LP
Label: Locust
Country: USA
Price: $25.00
"Enkidu is the mythical Japanese psychedelic noise project of legendary performers Chie Mukai (Taj Mahal Travelers, Che-SHIZU, East Bionic Symphonia, Dadnur), Eric Cordier & Seichi Yamamoto (the Boredoms, Omoide Hatoba, Rashinban, Ontoko). Over four bruised side-long cuts, Live in Kyoto faithfully captures the intensity of one particularly eviscerating evening of ritualized self expression at Kyotos Tanq space in 2004. This is liminal ecstatic drone, clatter & relentless sound bursts with a rough-around-the-edges vibe that maintains a loose kinetic debt to everything from La Monte Young & the Theater of Eternal Music to Keiji Haino, AMM & Fushitsusha. Hand-numbered edition of 525, 2 X 180 gram vinyl housed in a black silkscreened bottom-folded heavy jacket. Chie Mukai (kokyu, electronics, voice, percussion & dance) Seiichi Yamamoto (guitar & electronics & percussions) Eric Cordier (hurdy-gurdy & electronics)." -Locust.

Title: Espers
Format: CD
Label: Locust

"Espers are a boy/girl/girl trio from Philly featuring singer/songwriter Greg Weeks, Meg Baird and Brooke Sietinsons who combine the elemental sound of acid-folk with the baroque arrangements of late 60s chamber rock. Fully versed in the sumptuous vernacular of drug music, the cradle of Appalachian song, and the succinct truths of the three-minute pop ballad, their full length debut is an irresistible collection of sweet and subtle songs essential for fans of Fairport Convention, Pentangle, Jackson C. Franck, Bread, Love & Dreams and Bert Jansch. Espers are the sound of the New Weird America the way it should be heard -- with the ease, infectious grace and absolute beauty of an ever expansive trio bound for ever greater pastures." - Locust.

Title: The Weed Tree
Format: CD
Label: Locust
Country: USA
Price: $14.50
"When discussions were first taking place for a teaser album before Espers next proper studio full length, it didnt take any of us long to agree on the timeliness of an album of cover songs. Over the last few years while out on the road supporting their self titled debut, audiences were floored by renditions of traditionals like the bittersweet Black is the Color or the intergalactic take on master traveler Michael Hurleys Blue Mountain. An album of covers & traditionals was a perfect plan. Simple, no big deal. Selections were made: Hurley, Nico, Durutti Column, Blue Oyster Cult, trad cuts inspired by Bert Jansch & the Famous Jug Band & a new original called Dead King -- a single dispatch from the future -- would fill out the album.  We could call The Weed Tree yet another exemplary example of acid folk, baroque psych or sunshine pop with a sinister edge but none of this brings us any closer to giving meaning to a mess of unexplainable tears -- the result of the old happy/sad life humdrum that, by now, is a personal blueprint for an album gifted with the arch beauty of the Weed Tree . So, The Weed Tree is an album between the stations but, as transitions go, this is just further proof that Espers are at the nadir of what makes music meaningful & meaning matter in music today." - Locust.

Artist: ESTRIBOU & JEAN-PAUL PICKENS, GENE
Title: Intensifications
Format: CD
Label: Locust
Country: USA
Price: $14.50
"By no means household names, both Jean Paul-Pickens & Gene Estribou levitated around the Bay Area scene and each made a subtle mark along the way: Pickens was one of San Franciscos legendary Diggers and a knockout banjoist with poet David Meltzers folk rock outfit Serpent Power. Gene Estribou famously recorded the Grateful Deads second studio sessions & released their first 45 single in 1965. Footnotes? Sure. But that should only make the discovery of this lost gem all the more tantalizing. Cut in the mid-1960s, Intensifications is an obscure and illuminating slice of Marin county raga folk, a taste of latter day deltadelica thats a must for fans of the acid folk sound old and new. Together, Estribou and Pickens each cut a side of brilliant, meandering unaccompanied instrumentals: Estribou on acoustic guitar and Pickens on banjo. This single document has only ripened with age and should make it clear to anyone who ventures to give it a listen that both Estribou & Pickens deserve their place in the inner sanctum of charismatic acoustic guitar legends. Originally released on Henry Jacobs MEA label." - Locust

Artist: FAZZINI, TOM
Title: Neck To Neck
Format: LP
Label: Locust
Country: USA
Price: $19.00
"The record was made with the backdrop of recovery - a new place to live and a chance at renewal - quite on the edge, lots of anger and the absurdity of life all swirling around. Remember believing at the time that I would probably have a short life, so that desperation fed into the album. First and last chance to maybe say something on record. It took several months to record and each session was a short burst. Towards the end of the recording a welcome sense of levity crept in, spurred on by the ludicrous Casio pre-sets. That felt good, given the whole Industrial scene, in the broad sense, was a bit earnest and po-faced. The album title came to me from being familiar with a bar called the swan with two necks. I imagined Lyn and myself as two separate swans, damaged, their necks entwined and in my mind that poetically offset the industrial harshness within the grooves. - Tom Fazzini. Neck To Neck is a head scratching slab of warped primitive synth punk cut by a young Tom Fazzini in exile from a madness inducing tenure as a London postal carrier at Paul Dillons Complex studios. Originally released in 1984 on Gordon A. Hopes short lived A-mission label (which also counted releases by Asmus Tietchens & O Yuki Conjugate), Tom Fazzinis combination of minimal synth and brutalist /absurdist industrial songs had more in line with the broader discomforts of the early 80s international tape network, Family Fodder, LAFMS, Flying Lizards and Ralph records than the agit pop that dominated the Leeds music scene at the time. Once an outsider, always an outsider. Features new liner notes by Tom Fazzini & previously unpublished photos. Remastered and pressed up on 180 gram virgin vinyl. One time edition of 500." -Locust

"Taste the magic! NovaBilly is another edible audible from Henry Flynts dusty lower Manhattan bunker and it stands as one of the fullest, most beauteous document of Flynts tenure with a full working rock band to date. For less than one calendar year between 1974 and 1975, Henry Flynts hard driving, heavy jamming agit country rock band, NovaBilly embraced bareknuckled deep fried groove attacks, bearded hippie jam band workouts & a monstrous melange of blues, boogie and free jazz squeal into a musical soufflé that could only have come together with Flynt cooking up what was proven to be, time and again, an impossible vision within the confines of the SOHO art orbit of the 70s. After a couple performances at Anthology Film Archives and studio sessions in Richmond, Virginia and Manhattan, the band postered SOHO in a last ditch effort to get some traction with the hipsters that read, Party on down to the Kitchen. Stoned country music for rock country. The gig, like all the others before it, was poorly attended. NovaBilly played what would be their last live gig at the Kitchen on June 27, 1975. NovaBilly covers a damned fine and important moment in Henry Flynts musical career. If the Insurrections laid the foundation for his anti-war primitive garage rock sound, the emergence, nearly a decade later, of NovaBilly is the realization of Henrys own vision of obtuse personal politics (I was a creep), provocative left-wing posturing (check their version of the world communist anthem The International!) and a gleefully recombinant spin on southern music. 13 cuts and 60 minutes of old glory!" - Locust.

Like a hidden relic from the far side of the Harry Smith catalog, these early 1960s recordings are a splendid collection of high lonesome hillbilly fiddle and ukulele instrumentals that are surely Henry Flynts most articulated statements to date of his honest-to-god, true-to-life affinity and love for that dry earth choogaloo upper mountain lower boogaloo foot stomping folk music. Standouts include the acid fried 13th Floor Elevators-ish Sky Turned Red and the 15-plus minute lazy zen epic hum and strum album closer, Blue Sky, Highway and Tyme. No doubt, this is Appalachian bruit driving music bar none." -Locust

Format: CD
Label: Locust
Country: USA
Price: $14.50
"Here we find ourselves hot on the skidmarks of Henrys brawl with sonic self invention documented on last summers splendid Raga Electric with two complementary volumes emerging from the same physical time but a very different head space continuum indeed. On BPHB Volume 2, avant-hillbilly master fiddler Henry Flynt scuffles through a most peculiar set of electrified and acoustic bumpkin fiddle howls and screeches circa early to mid 1960s. From the enviable opening echo rock, in which Flynt does his best to compete with the electro-echo buzz of a Jorgen Ingmann or Link Wray to the beauteous instrumental glow of the extended modal country jam of Jamboree, Flynt proves once again that his is not a music simply rooted in the taut belt of New York isms, schisms and jisms. This is music that howls from a unique voice whose love for the folk songbook (known and imagined) is as resonant as a cowbell and as deep as a freshwater well." - Locust

"2008 repress, originally released 2002. Henry Flynt is a seasoned tourist of The World Of The Other Ear and C Tune is his ringing, psychedelic meditation on/from the cosmos. Call it a sonic postcard or call it late night head music or even call it ecstatic minimalism if you have to. On this forty seven plus minute foray, our man Flynt takes his electrified fiddle and blends his droning sonic calisthenics with lonesome swing melodies and high decibel screech to the somnambulistic playing of his expat mathematician pal Mr/Mrs. C.C. Hennix on Pran Nath Tamboura. Recorded in 1980 in an undisclosed pocket of the galaxy and now available for blissful consumption." -Locust

"another fix from the Henry Flynt vaults featuring henry with his downtown NY agitcountry band NovaBilly. Culled from the May 1975 NovaBilly concert at Anthology Film Archives, youd be hard pressed to find a finer representation of Henrys convergence of high lonesome Carolina hillbilly twang and the NY no wave groove than on these two sides: "I was a creep (soul mash" & Left Ear (Greensboro Senior High Song). Get it fast! We only did up 300 copies of this one & when theyre gone, theyre gone." - Locust. "If I hadnt known already it was Henry Flynt, Id have swore it was a recording of Bob Mothersbaugh fronting 10 60 75 (The Numbers Band) from some long forgotten Saturday night stint at JBs in Kent. Those chooglin barroom blues, weve all hadem! The flip is way more curious & shows the real Rolling Thunder that year didnt belong to Dylans revue but instead to an anonymous bunch called NovaBilly whose solid backbeats & higher key interactions of fiddles n gits reduces the white frocked, turban wearing, mime-faced Renaldo & Clara folly to the outhouse of hokum. In fact, this is so great I got an uncontrollable urge to scream Fuck Bob Neuwirth! at the top of my lungs. So please excuse me while I amble down to the basement & expell my catharsis. Thank you." - Siltblog. "This thing is a sophistos "real people" disc, recorded by this Flynt guy in 1975 some time after the holler depicted on those LPs. Ill just say that the a-side sounds like 1979 no-wave as predicted using a Roxy Music-brand magic eight ball and that the flip is just a serious bite of moon cheese, weird and disorienting. There aint very many of these and life is too short to harbor regret?as I have learned. Rats." - Z Gun.

Title: Raga Electric
Format: Picture Disc LP
Label: Locust
Country: USA
Price: $42.00
"In the early 60s, fresh from his clean behind the ears years at Harvard, Henry was undergoing rapid ideological shifts: cavorting with Maciunas and the whole Fluxus bit, doing performances at Yoko Onos loft and recording with La Monte Young; having it out with his Stalinist cohorts over the relative merits of a good blues run and searching for a new musical language outside of the various generic artistic restrictions before him at the time. What he arrived at was an expressive practice he dubbed audact (auditory acognitive cultural activity) and that is what you will hear on this collection. Collecting key material from 1963 to 1971, Raga Electric is a 7 piece distillation of some of Henrys most adventurous, audactatious, outsider musical endeavors. The record begins with, of all things, a hybrid, off the wall treatment of the traditional supranationalist anthem The Marines Hymn sung in a thick tongued, fully untudored Hindustani vocalese to brilliantly sun drenched, lightly strummed acoustic guitar accompaniment. The title cut, Raga Electric, is a twisted, howling fake hindustani rag with staccato untuned guitar and bleating screams recorded at his home just a few short hours after catching Pandit Pran Nath at a downtown morning concert. The howling orgasmic yodel of a visionarys self-posession and certain surrender on this 1966 cut puts Henry somewhere at the epicenter of the folk isolationist world of Jandek and the ethnodislocation of the Sun City Girls, to name but a few. The side long closer, Free Alto, is a monstrous exploration of the ins and outs of the tenor saxophone which, upon hearing it, Terry Riley referred to as a very articulated musical program. Though it remains Henrys single meeting with the instrument, over the course of some 13 odd minutes, he finds out everything he needs to know about the horn and gets into some pretty hairy free squelch and squeal territory in the process. I was just pulling sounds out of a hat and just stringing them together, he recently told me. As hats go, this one should fit the heads of todays listeners just fine." - Locust. "180 gram vinyl. Our man Flynt shatters the categories once again with this surprise collection of his short-lived basement rock protest band, The Insurrections, from 1966. Let there be no doubt in anyones mind: Flynts version of protest music isnt your cultural-commissar school of folk posturing. Its aggro and Flynt is an unhinged showman on helium-induced vox and the electric guitar (his teacher was none other than Lou Reed). Imagine a mix of Sky Saxon (of Seeds fame) with a dash of Roky Erickson thrown in on vocals, a little bit of the Cramps scary monster dramatics thrown in for good measure & the swamp chugalug laziness of vintage Pussy Galore and you get an idea what Flynt was up to at this phase in his non-career. Features legendary sculptor Walter De Maria on drums, confirming our hidden suspicion that in every great artist theres a desire to rock & beneath every fine gallery, there is a basement. "You may have gotten a dose of opera school dropout Josephine Fosters startling mixture of avant arrangements & acoustic mountain folk as half of the spare twisted up Appalachian duo, Born Heller. To many, the effect of her voice -- on record and in concert -- has been nothing short of chilling since the duos Locust debut. After a 180 degree shift in style only, Josephine Foster & the Supposed offer up a 12 cut blow out thats exuberant and hard hitting. On All the Leaves Are Gone, Josephine embraces her rock and roll heart and intuitively summons up the mojo of legendary songstress Patti Smith as she rides the crest of a fluid and angular rhythm section thats as triumphant as the sound of classic Television and trebly west coast psychedelia from decades gone by. Lyrically, stylistically and musically, this is a fearless, soon to be classic post-punk rock and roll record that delivers the goods from start to finish." - Locust

Artist: GAZHEART
Title: GazHeart
Format: LP
Label: Locust
Country: USA
Price: $22.00
"With GazHeart, celebrated visual artist Rita Ackermann (voice) & the No Neck Blues Bands Dave Nuss (found percussion) created a playful spontaneous sound that seemingly bridged the gap between the broken pop sounds of certain strains of the no wave movement, sound poetry and catchy, otherworldly art folk using the barest of resources available to them. The GazHeart recordings were made in August of 2004 after the disintegration of Angelblood at ATP in April. Rita and I traveled every August to Budapest to be with her family, who live in the hills outside the city in a small German village called Budaörs, created after WWII. The mise-en-scene of our life there was total village simplicity -- grandmas cooking, dogs running the streets, babies with leaky diapers on big wheels, and gypsies hanging out in bars. We would go every Sunday morning to the gypsy market where the vendors would spread out a bunch of garbage on blankets in a parking lot, all the proprietors drunk by 10am on wine consumed from coke bottles. At the time of recording, Rita had adopted the surrealist idea of automatic, unmediated writing direct from the unconscious, using spontaneous text to create song-like atmospheres, in the spirit of Tristan Tzara. For the percussion, I wound up keeping it simple and true to the environs: a bucket, a glass jar, a coffee can & a straw broom. All recordings were made to magnetic tape in the back yard late at night after the village was sleeping." - Dave Nuss. "One time pressing of this special edition one-sided LP features an original etching by visual artist Rita Ackermann on the flip side. GazHeart is housed in a plain jacket with two opposing drawings for front & back by Ackermann reproduced on high quality archival paper stock." - Locust.

Format: CD

"Electronic Kabuki Mambo is a stupefying pre-psychedelic vintage 50s affair featuring a tapestry of then local musical talents (One Henry Jacobs, Gordon Longfellow, David Talcott, and William Loughborough). Prepare yourself for a liberation of your senses. Prepare for an irresistible taste of the 50s in all of its sonic sci-fi glory because this caravan of sound is where head music really began! Think Taj Mahal Travelers meets Harry Partch in an echo chamber. Think?Think? Its difficult to believe but for a period in 1955, Henry Jacobs, the grandmaster of left coast Zen Surrealism (known to some for his radio art innovations, his many recordings of Lenny Bruce, satirical forays as Shorty Petterstein, a fringe personality with the beat poets and a dear collaborator with Buddhist icon Alan Watts) and coveted experimental filmmaker Jordan Belson convinced San Franciscos fledgling Morrison Planetarium to allow the duo to put on the Vortex Experiments -- a quadraphonic sound and vision show premiering strange audio collages of works by famed composers Takemitsu, Stockhausen, Berio and countless ethnic field recordings with weird, tripped out oscilloscope flicks, excerpts from Belsons classic Allures, and other kaleidoscopic visuals to a regularly sold out, packed crowd of local residents interested in seeing what this new and crazy sensory experience was all about. Culled from hours and hours of bits from his weekly radio program Music & Folklore which originally aired on Berkeleys once revolutionary KPFA radio station, Radio Programme No. 1: Henry Jacobs Music & Folklore is a stunningly surreal sonic goulash of brilliantly conceived, tight rhythmic loops & tape collages, ethnic and experimental musics, twisted satirical interviews with Shorty Petterstein (Henrys beat hipster alter ego), phony academic authorities (the muttering Jocko on Raga and politics, imagined Hebrew scholar Sholem Stein waxing bogus on the subject of calypso!) to Berkeley field recordings of Kay Dunham (nephew of the legendary Katherine Dunham) and friends getting lost in an informal drumming session. "First Contact! brings together highlights from nearly half a decade of recordings by an extended and ever changing superstar lineup of Chicago jazz, punk and rock musicians under the tutelage of cellist/ leader Fred Lonberg-Holm. What youll hear on this disc is an uproarious gathering of sonic jouissance featuring composer, songsmith and producer Jim ORourke, laptop guitar cum electronics-whiz Kevin Drumm, Jeb Bishop, Guillermo Gregorio, members of Town and Country, Pillow, TV Pow, and dozens of other bright lights from this citys creative gene pool on acoustic instruments, homemade sound concoctions and blistering digital and analog electronics as they explore elements of sonic growl, guttural hornspeak, and wistfully spaced out playing. But this isnt just some dandys hoity toity conceptual affair. Counterpoised somewhere between video game warfare and an explosive Arkestral moog freakout from many a Sun Ra episode, this superb collection begins surely enough teetering on the edge of a sonic collision that sets the pace for a grand, adventurous listening experience that just as easily blends the pointilism and angular attack of classic European free music with the raw, blissful emotional group flow of mid-1970s Henry Threadgill." - Locust

Format: CD
Label: Locust
Country: USA

"A street rat was breaking into our apartment, eating our food and chewing holes in our clothes, skittering across our kitchen in the dark, scuttling inside our walls late at night. Since we already had a pet rat, the prospect of trying to kill one rat while feeding another struck us as intolerable hypocrisy, so we bought a non-lethal Have-a-Heart Trap. After several days of luring the invader closer and closer towards and then inside the trap with peanuts, we captured her. The first track is an unedited recording of the rat protesting its incarceration. The second track is our response, in which the timing and duration of the rat screams from the first track have been preserved. The following morning we took the rat to a wealthy suburban neighborhood and set it free." -- Drew Daniel. "The dynamic hybrid electro-rock duo Matmos strike again hot on the heels of last years celebrated Matador full length the Civil War with this zany, completely mesmerizing 2 track contribution to the Met Life series of field recordings and ingenious sound responses. The Matmos boys stretch an ominous canvas with the bare sounds of an incarcerated rat ensconced in a friendly trap and paint an unlikely response. Rat Relocation Program is a heavily elevated, gleeful electro-rock epic that combines Matmos patented blend of humor, drill & bass with cinematic prog reminiscent of the cult fantasy sci fi film The Fantastic Planet." - Locust

On Deliverance -- a real time performance on his overhauled 21 string banjo -- youll be treated to some of the most deeply satisfying & impulsive outer cosmos ragadelia youre ever likely to hear. Clocking in at nearly 60 colossal minutes, Deliverance is 3 tracks of unfiltered aural transcendence; a hypnotic raga epic thats by turns a slow burning meditation & an urgent mind / body duel. Pauls playing may summon up the spirits of Sandy Bulls searching inventiveness, Billy Faiers out Tacoma sides, J.P. Pickens tweaked Americana, Henry Flynts searing harmonic drones or Big Jim Sullivans psychedelic exotica, but at the end of the day, Metzger is no idolater and were all a little luckier to have him around to occupy his own singular post in this post-Fahey world." - Locust.

Title: Crackers
Format: CD
Label: Locust
Country: USA
Price: $15.50
"In 1997, electronic sound installation artist Christof Migone enlisted the bodily aid of a group of Canadians through classified ads and over the radio for a cracking session and interview at Ottawas Gallery 101. A what, you ask? Part ambient sound investigation and part wacked out art science project, Crackers is a 7 track collection of unadulterated recordings and clever digital remixes of the sounds of cracking knuckles, knees, wrists, jaws, toes, ankles, backs, necks, elbows, and hips. The percolating, popping polyrhythms are at once amusingly bubbly and oddly trance inducing. Cheaper than a trip to the chiropractor and far more entertaining. Crackers was first presented as an installation in a group show curated by Emmanuel Madan entitled Incredibly Soft Sounds at Gallery 101, in January 1998 (originally documented in an exhibition catalog and limited cd-r). Documentation of Crackers was also featured in Site Of Sound: Of Architecture And The Ear, a book with CD edited by Brandon LaBelle and Steve Roden (Los Angeles: Errant Bodies Press, 1999) and presented the following year as a solo installation curated by Michael J. Schumacher and Ursula Scherrer at Studio 5 Beekman in New York City, January 2000." - Locust

Format: CD
Label: Locust

Price: $14.50
"Finally back in print, were happy to present two albums of agitprop electronic music -- Tract & To Kill A Sunrise cut between 1968 and 1975 -- by mysterious & controversial Turkish composer Ilhan Mimaroglu -- one of the truly underrepresented pioneers of the golden age of the Princeton-Columbia electronic music scene. Produced as a direct reaction to an extended period of intense repression, counterrevolutionary terror, & execution style murder in Turkey, Tract is a scrambled mash up peppered with spunky electronic bursts, radio ads looped ad nauseum, the breathy, soulful & defiant voice of Turkish singer Tuly Sand & the go-golicious backing jams of little known psych group Topsy Turvy Moon -- all shot up with lines lifted from old left wing standbys Chairman Mao, Karl Marx & Bertolt Brecht among others. To Kill a Sunrise follows suit with a wild, uncompromising orgiastic electro-dirge for those who are murdered by the lackeys of the ruling class while the collection closer, La Ruche, brings the audio gestalt to a somewhat more subdued end. Brilliantly remastered from the original tapes, Tract features close to 80 minutes of music and original liners. Ilhan Mimaroglu emerged out of the Columbia -- Princeton Electronic Music Center and public radio programs at New Yorks WBAI where his socially and politically charged radio programs took the city by surprise. He is best known for his work with Edgard Varese, mentor Vladimir Ussachevsky, a spellbinding collaboration with jazz musician Freddy Hubbard and as a chief composer of Fellinis Satyricon as well as electronic albums released on his own Finnadar label." - Locust

Centered around Hanna Tuulikkis rich and expansive vocals, with a heady, kaleidoscopic mix of vintage whirling oscillators, Moog synths and buzzing harmonium, alongside the intrepid string explorations of Chris Hladowski and Aby Vulliamy, these six pieces continue the long trek through other worlds of sound to form a dense, cohesive suite that meshes everything from Japanese gagaku, European plainsong, Near Eastern modal drones and more. With Sirens Wave, Nalle have procured a special place where folk conventions are curiously uprooted & seamlessly meshed with otherworldly avant tendencies. Features members of The Family Elan, Scatter & the One Ensemble of Daniel Padden."- Locust

Title: Kuutarha
Format: CD
Label: Locust
Country: USA
Price: $14.50
"Last year saw an explosion & all too welcome interest in a vital, tightly knit scene of artists from Finland. Out of the communal circle of prodigious Finnish musicians comes this lovely 10 song debut solo outing of abstract folk, stray kiss lullaby & plucked blues by Laura Naukkarinen (vocalist in Kiila, Päivänsäde, The Anaksimandros). Sung in her native tongue, Kuutarha intimates a secret language outside traditional word speak into something utterly beautiful & unrestrained. Melody is suggested through the contours of voice, guitar & violin and arrangement has less to do with the placement of things than with Laus comfort in letting sounds fall where they may. Line up: Laura Naukkarinen (acoustic bass, bass recorder, five-stringed kantele, acoustic guitar, tenor recorder, violin, bamboo flute, colorful juice glasses, mortar, mandolin, witch laugh megaphone, babys rattle, bike bells, banjo, cowbells, electric guitar, organ, willow whistle, tablas, percussion, cymbals, comb, beer cans); Pekko Käppi (tamboura, jouhikko)." - Locust.

"NNCK LP soundtrack for the upcoming NNCK movie of the same name, directed by Adam Egypt Mortimer. This album presents recordings from the first NNCK rehearsal space at 195 Chrystie St. NYC in the years 1995-97. Two pieces were recorded for Harmony Korines Gummo soundtrack but never released. Others are quintessential NNCK moments, including the first session joined by Butoh princess Michiko Takahachi, who instantly became a permanent member. The closing of the 195 Chrystie St. studio in 1997 marked the end of NNCK downtown as they set their sites for Harlem. This soundtrack and the upcoming film closely document this transitional period." -Nuss

"Locust is proud to announce the release of Clomeim, the new studio album from New Yorks No-Neck Blues Band. Clomeim is an evolution, a vital document of change in The No-Neck Blues Bands 15+ years of para-musical activity. This pivotal recording is a creative distillation of the collective at a new and startling saturation point. For three rainy days in March 2007, the seven-headed hydra that is NNCK holed up in Black Dirt Studios, their newly outfitted recording studio in the foothills of upstate New York. With a discipline and a clarity of vision theyve rarely displayed before, the collective channeled all of their energies into hours of recording live, real-time improvisation. After months spent sculpting and recasting the raw material, Clomeim emerged -- a distinct whole, recalling in its parts the communal howl of Algarnas Tradgard, the dead spirit channeling of Geino Yamashiro Gumi, the glacial shadowplay of Heresie era Univers Zero, and krautrock zenith Faust at their finest hour. Clomeim is that rare hybrid -- a rock exterior with a cryptic, experimental core; a dense groover and a burning, exploratory psychedelic grimoire for the new dark ages." -Locust

Title: Live At Kens Electric Lake
Format: Double CD
Label: Locust
Country: USA
Price: $20.00
Reissue of this old S@1 48/49 double LP from 1998. "Nearly ten years of swimming up stream through the sonic flotsam & jetsam, the folks have gotten freaky, noise is the new noise, the chin scratchers have joined the metal circus and the No Neck Blues Band remain as relevant today as ever. Their indoor /outdoor audio assaults in upper & lower Manhattan are the stuff of legend but on 1998s Live at Kens Electric Lake the band took a distinct turn, crossed the Canadian border, hooked up w/ some Sunburned folks and made a sudden diaspora to a rural retreat in the country for a full days session of acid-head tribal percussion clatter that is utterly different than anything the band had put on the public record up to that time. Looser, groovier & more in that communal state of mind than ever, NNCKs long out-of-print fifth release from 1998 is a classic testament to the urban dwellers gone wild & ranks as among their finest displays of tribal churn and choogle in the bands 14 year history. Neo-Dada attacks were swapped out for psychedelic vibrations, midrange mystery for outdoor atmospherics. Kens is a peak communal moment for New Yorks most enigmatic, longest running experimental collective." - Locust.

"No.9 is Joe Takayuki, an unsung electropop mastermind from Tokyos invigorating Onkyo scene. No.9s sound is focused but theres no doubt that he has a knack for combining all 31 musical flavors and then some. Right from the opening track, Gate, with its chase scene thematics and stuttering rhythms, its hard not to get pulled into a Rollercoaster thats a wily, playful joyride rife with the wistful mod 60s pop hooks (Where come from?, Alternate), a tv spy jazz vibe (survive), an occasionally somber feel propped up by chill natural field recordings of insects (bug beats, Eco Ego), minimal techno (Insatiable World) and a perfect blend of flamenco style acoustic guitar playing and electronics (For Sister)." - Locust

Title: Of Wondrous Legends
Format: LP
Label: Locust
Country: USA
Price: $20.00
"Limited edition 180 gram vinyl version. Proof that theres still excellent albums out there to discover. Drawing mainly on art rock and early light-prog aesthetics, O.W.L deliver an ambitious song cycle which at its best transforms into dazzling psychedelia. A pro-level recording and elaborate arrangements that utilize keyboards, flute, vibes and multi-tracked male vocals make for an appealing surface, and unlike the typical Moody Blues derivates, theres lots of personality and depth. The mood is cerebral and refined, but the commitment and songwriting should impress even those with no immediate love for the genre (like me). The dominating style is dreamy melodic prog-rock like the British album Spring, but the vocal style and ghostly soundscape may at times recall Freeborne and Time on Shadoks, while the chamber music intimacy reflects a possible Pearls Before Swine influence. Theres more keyboard than guitar, which is typical for the style. Impressive on many levels, with hypnotic Eastern lysergia on Midnight Carnival, the albums epic center-piece. The artist was formerly with the pre-LP Mountain Bus, and recorded this as the first in a projected series of albums. --Patrick Lundborg, author of The Acid Archives. Of Wondrous Legends is a Chicago baroque psych classic recovered from the dustbins of history. To the few who have heard it, it has earned comparisons to Tim Buckley, Pearls Before Swine, and 60s British prog-folk. O.W.L was founded in 1968 on Chicagos north side by Stephen Titra. A founding member of the beloved Midwestern hippie jam band Mountain Bus, Titra left that band just as their Dead-inspired, bluesy jams gained serious regional traction in order to fully devote himself to the inward-looking, singular vision of O.W.L. Of Wondrous Legends was recorded at Chicagos Universal Studios over a six month stretch in 1971 and a handful of test pressings were produced and circulated, but despite serious interest from a number of major labels, this gem went unreleased. The passage of time only further helped ensure the albums place in near total obscurity until a copy of one of the test pressings was unearthed in a Chicago junk shop in 2004. Following several years of collaborative efforts on this lost epic, Of Wondrous Legends now sees its first public release after some 35 years of obscurity. Mastered from the original source tapes. Features copious liner notes and vintage photos." -Locust

Title: Reads with Jazz in Canada
Format: CD
Label: Locust
Country: USA
Price: $14.50
"This modern-day minstrel is as fascinating and interesting as any swing or blues singer - phrases and thoughts so beautifully woven into the jazz background, and so expertly phrased and timed, that it is a revelation to the ear and mind." -- Los Angeles Examiner. "On a single October evening in 1959, fabled peoples poet Kenneth Patchen and Vancouvers Alan Neil Quartet made a little bit of history. Together, they cut one of the first jazz-and poetry recordings to disc -- fiery, spontaneous and free of pretensions, where hard bop playing wailed neck-and-neck with Patchens scathing, slurred, rabid vocalizations. Today, many see Jazz In Canada as among the very first truly beat documents on record -- preceding efforts by Kerouac, Ferlinghetti & Ginsberg. This new edition features original notes by Alan Neil & new retrospective notes by rocknroll poet of the San Francisco renaissance David Meltzer." - Locust

Format: CD

Price: $14.50
Reissue of a 1970 Folkways electronic music album. "Not many people walk away from a successful international law career to devote their time to making electronic music at the ripe age of 49 years. John Donald Robb did just that when he set up shop in Santa Fe, New Mexico in 1941 and dove head first into a career as a composer, ethno-musicologist and an early electronic music noodler whose bizarre and singular electronic music recordings are short on same old same old and long on quirky, beat audacity. This exciting collection combines the choicest cuts off of his two off beat Folkways records into one great package of out there moog music." - Locust

Title: Ceiling Songs
Format: LP
Label: Locust

Price: $17.00
"Between the machine and the composition there are the wonderful accidents. Whether it be taped-up player piano rolls, broken music boxes, or instruments of a more traditional sort, all the sounds on this album were carefully and randomly interrupted by my hands, before being arranged into larger pieces. For the most part it is a love of the archaic mechanizations of gears spinning and paper scratching, of textural sounds discovered in old things, that propelled me into making these songs. But, as the ideas came from the outside in so did they return from the inside out, blurring the line between my own artistry, and the natural inclinations of the materials at hand. This is what made the Ceiling Songs." -- Ethan Rose. "In those pre-Buchla Box days, we cobbled together whatever odd bits of equipment we could beg, borrow, steal and occasionally buy to coax whatever squeaks and chirps or sequences of noises we could from their complaining depths. -- Ramon Sender. Worldfood is a wild, psychedelic warble & drone of looped, overlayed tape pieces produced by goosing an ampex tape player with a computer calibration device. The resulting two pieces -- Worldfood III (To See With my Eyes) and WorldfoodX!! -- both part of a number of variations in a series -- make for gorgeous, careening sungazing music. Leave your glasses behind. Ramon Sender is a legendary figure in the Bay Area scene -- first paving the way for the San Francisco Tape Center with Mort Subotnick (Silver Apples of the Moon) and Pauline Oliveiros at the dawn of the 1960s where the stunningly out pieces on this disc happened. In subsequent years, he played an active role with the San Francisco Diggers -- the anarchist guerilla street theater group that challenged the emerging Counterculture --and co-founded the legendary Morningstar Ranch Commune in Sonoma County. Worldfood is the first in an ongoing series of archival discs to come from Ramon Senders exceptional vaults." - Locust

Reissue of this 1973 album. "Awash in fuzz boxes and acid trips, the dozens of other overlooked groups from the psychedelic era bear little resemblance to Silmaril. While others buzzed within the hippie epicenters of Haight Street and the Lower East Side, Silmaril formed in haunted, industrial Milwaukee. Other bands might have met at a love-in; Silmaril were friends from a Catholic youth retreat bound together by a doomed figure in the eccentric madman tradition of Syd Barrett, Roy Harper and Mel Lyman by the name of Matthew Peregrine. The Voyage of Icarus captures the dark, mysterious, and achingly beautiful acid folk & Christian-themed psychedelic sounds that emanated from 1973s highly collectable privately-pressed album, Given Time... Format: Triple LP

Price: $27.00
"If you thought our little feverish bout with foolishness would stop with the triple vinyl of 300,003 Crossdressers, youre horribly mistaken. What could we do in our sickly state but quite naturally retread the retired Dantes Disneyland Inferno and give it a new engorged life as yet another triple vinyl expedition through the terrors and horrors of the verbal brain farts of Charlie Gocher in a burroughsesque cum firesign theatre theater (thats right, theatre theater) of absurdity backed by a variety of instrumental moods: bongo bohemia, c & w, lounge swing swong, ooga booga rock, childrens melodies and all things in between. Title: This is It
Format: CD
Label: Locust
Country: USA
Price: $14.50
"A psychedelic holy grail re-issued. This is It -- originally cut in 1962, is regarded by many of the whos who of psych fanatics as the first aural document of psychedelia. It is a plundering, blistering, free form freakout of totally unselfconscious group sonic exploration. Whats more: its a great, great album that stands the test of time. Legendary Zen guru Alan Watts led a cadre of musicians and non-musicians alike through communal chant, primitive choogle and raw American tribalism that features many of the same Bay Area Heads that appeared earlier on Locusts Electronic Kabuki Mambo -- the inimitable satirist and collage whiz Henry Jacobs, genius percussionist William Loughborough (early performer with Chet Baker/Harry Partch) among many others. This is where the so-called Weird America begins and if you dont find yourself with that rare facial twitch of awe, befuddlement and unbridled glee, then surely you need your head checked." - Locust

"During his lifetime, Alan Watts (1915-1973) became, and remains, one of the most beloved interpreters of Eastern thought. For more than forty years, Alan Watts introduced the Western world to the full range of eastern philosophies and arts all filtered through his buoyant personality and charm. His life and work reflect an astonishing adventure. There remain few treats as wonderful and lively as this, one of three records originally put out on the Sausalito based MEA label. Haiku and its companion release, Zen and Senryu, hold the truly unique position of documenting a poetic form (Haiku) or philosophy (Zen) and Satire (Senryu) through both lecture and stunning performance. Both discs feature the instantaneous Japanese translations by Sumire Hasegawa Jacobs to the spare musical accompaniment of Vince Delgado, Robert Garfias and Henry Jacobs. This brilliant tension between Alan Watts self assured delivery and Sumires urgent cries, makes both Haiku and Zen and Senryu two of the most essential documents for admirerers of Watts rich personality, eastern thought, and the heavy ways of 1960s counterculture." - Locust
