Artist: BERRESHEIM, TIM & JONATHAN MEESE
Title: Die Christmaskameraden: Christmas Time/You are Father Christmas. Accept it
Format: 7"
Label: Meeuw Muzak
Country: Belgium
Price: $6.50
"The label with the strongest tradition in releasing Christmas 7"s is no doubt Meeuw Muzak. Not because he likes Christmas very much, but he likes to sit at home and play his releases during that day. Die Christmaskameraden are Jonathan Meese and Tim Berresheim, both well-known visual artists from Germany. Meese has a wide fascination for anything from Wagner to Stalin, and Ezra Pound to Rasputin. On this 7" they play synth, glockenspiel and sing about father christmas and even have a sort of disco rhythm on the second side, which could be seen as the extended dance remix. We are father Christmas, you are father Christmas they sing. After the RLW and Tietchens, this is certainly much more weirder and way-out then those and is a most curious record indeed. Play this for your family on boxing day and disapproval will be your share." - Vital Weekly.

Artist: BOOMBASTIK, MARK
Title: Plastic Lieb/ Hoffnung
Format: 7"
Label: Meeuw Muzak
Country: Netherlands
Price: $7.00
"Its been a while since we last heard a new 7" by Meeuw Muzak, but then here a brand new 7" by Mark Boombastik, who already released I Hate Art Galleries on the same label, as well as material for other labels, such Solotempo, Lou Records, Gagarin Records, Tomlab etc. His background is in the field of hip hop, so hes probably better known in other, non Vital areas. He has worked with Patric Catani (Candie Hank), Funkstoerung, Felix Kubin and such alike. The music is not really hip hop like (as far as I can judge, not being fully known with the genre), but Boombastik uses a stomping rhythm, deep bass sound, something that sounds like a theremin and German vocals, which sing about our love for plastic. Quite biting the a-side, maybe even a political edge to it. The b-side is a looped voice duet between where is my hope and where is my fear, along with fucked up rhythm backing. Quite chilling this one. Great labels here too: based on the energy chocolate which keeps drivers awake." - Vital Weekly.

Artist: GOLDT, MAX, FELIX KUBIN & MARK BOOMBASTIK
Title: Fog Frog
Format: 7"
Label: Meeuw Muzak
Country: Belgium
Price: $7.50
“The future is female”, announces the well-known homosexual ironist Max Goldt here (on Ladies Ladies) speaking in 1983, long before getting married to a woman and thereby exhibiting a confounding yet admirable internal consistency. This finely-tuned sense of amibiguity will be familiar to those who have followed Goldts work as a musician and then an author since the late 70s. He is of course also a noted columnist in the German-speaking world. Here on this record his lyrics and vocals are filleted from the historical timeline for a reconstitution involving the various talents of Mr Kubin and Mr. Boombastik.
Mark Boombastik: musician, singer, DJ and human beatboxer par excellence – giving the frogs something to hop to here on Fog Frog. Felix Kubin: Ubiquitous celebrity in an alternative universe, but in ours a nebulous presence in the musical underground since the heyday of the Neue Deutsche Welle. A self-professed dadaist, one shouldnt try and linger too long on a definition for Felix. He is, however, the wicked svengali whose tendrils traverse time and space to tickle this record into existence, because Side Bs Ladies Ladies, as previously mentioned, is actually a post-feminist pre-ejaculation from way back when, here recently gently re-agitated in the Kubin studio. The 2003 “too-Neubauten” mix (involving electric heater percussion) of Fog Frog has been updated to a more judiciously organized final version, whilst still retaining the original tipsy-sounding recording of the famously discerning Mr Goldt in his hotel room. Aged like a fine wine, perhaps. Indeed the thin pining sounds come from a Fellini-inspired choir of wine-filled glasses. So, the old ladies meet the new frog princes and off they go. Here is the transformation." - Pete Um.

Artist: IL GRAND SILENZO
Title: Dry Lake
Format: 7"
Label: Meeuw Muzak
Country: Belgium
Price: $7.50
Edition of 300. "First single by this amazing Japanese duo, who tranform banjo and homemade electronics into tendrils of sparse mystery motion. Single line plunks and small squeedles have rarely (if ever) been wed so brilliantly." — Byron Coley, The Wire.

"Meeuw Muzak continues its journey towards unspecified horizons, leaving the footprints of a different animal each time. If youre a good tracker and you know your fauna then everything is cool, otherwise this stuff will go over your head while youre looking down at shapes in the hot and shifting sand. This latest example to puzzle your ears is from the Japanese duo Il Grande Silenzio, who both also work in the field of contemporary art. Perhaps unsurprisingly, listening to this music is a little like looking at something, maybe the “silent characters in a monotone world” referred to on the Two Acorns website. Theres a lot of space to these slow pieces, both dimensional and durational, but upfront in your field of vision sits Atsuo Ogawa and his banjo, a rarely-represented instrument in improvised music but very effective here. Then quietly somewhere at the back we have Minoru Sato playing self-built electronics. Theres an interesting marriage of form and content whereby the recording method seems intended to highlight the contrast between the brash and folksy tones of the banjo, albeit played in simple, clear, isolated notes, and the mysterious tinkle and scrape that the ear strains to hear behind. One feels witness to the unfolding of a narrative you cant fully comprehend, and the effect is to be pulled into a reverie. Il Grande Silenzio is the title of a spaghetti western, which seems a perfect fit with the lingual ambiguity of these two pieces." - Pete Um, Summer 2014.

Artist: IMLER, CHRIS
Title: Vorwarts/Tanzen
Format: 7"
Label: Meeuw Muzak
Country: Belgium
Price: $6.50
"Two ear-jingling, primeval drumtasms: a jerry-rigged version of the Chris Montez classic backed with an original "sci-fi romanticist socialist anthem." Kinetic energy, a chugging beat, and waves of delayed gratification. Classic trembling Teutonic disco-punk, in other words. Dodgy drummer Chris Imler, infamously involved in Spankings and Golden Showers (these are groups) has also previously been associated with work with Puppet Mastaz, Peaches, Namosh, Electronicat as well as being one half of the Driver&Driver duo with Patric Catani, with whom he has toured the world and recently released a double album entitled We Are The World, funnily enough. This year he has also played drums for Soffy O, Die Türen and for Stereo Total in a theatre play. This is not to mention a detour into fine arts with a sound installation with Patric Catani for the Robert Wilson Institute in New York, as well as numerous remixes. Edition of 450." - Pete Um.

Artist: JACK THE RAPPER
Title: Dutroux Rap
Format: 7"
Label: Meeuw Muzak
Country: Netherlands
Price: $6.00
"Marc Dutroux is one of the most notorious criminals in Belgian history. He was convicted of having kidnapped, tortured and sexually abused six girls, ranging in age from 8 to 19, four of whom died as a result. He was also convicted of having killed a suspected former accomplice. He was arrested in 1996. His widely publicized trial took place in 2004. A number of shortcomings in the Dutroux investigation caused widespread discontent in Belgium with the countrys criminal justice system. Dutroux is considered one of Europes worst serial killers. Dutroux Rap is Jack The Rappers acerbic view on the Belgian state and its foul state." - Meeuw Muzak

Artist: JAILHOUSE
Title: Christmas Day
Format: 7"
Label: Meeuw Muzak
Country: Netherlands
Price: $6.00

Artist: KUBIN, FELIX
Title: Antarktis Slow Rock
Format: 7"
Label: Meeuw Muzak
Country: Netherlands
Price: $6.50
"This was the first release, in 1997 by a man named Felix Kubin, before stepping into the world of fame. So riding on this fame its been re-issued with a new mix of the original b-side. The a-side is indeed a slow, rock-rhythm box pieces, with nicely humming organ lines, a sweet little melody. A quasi eastern-Europe feel comes to live in the form of wind blowing over the tundra. And tundras shaking ahead on the flipside, via a casio rhythm and a more up-tempo song. Here to similar eastern Europe feelings float by, in what is a very joyful and up-tempo song. Great to have it back in print." - Vital Weekly.

Artist: LUKE & WENDY
Title: Tony Conrad
Format: 7"
Label: Meeuw Muzak
Country: Belgium
Price: $7.50
"Wendy Gondeln is one of the operating handles of the great German sound/visual artist Albert Oehlen. Luke Calzonetti aka Run Dust is a New York based musician who has been living in Germany lately, although Im not sure where hes based at the moment. This wonderful instrumental single, seemingly dedicated to the late great Tony C, features one side of drums, hard-sawed violin, electronics and lots of compressed atmosphere. The flip is like a wild dub version of some television cop show theme. Not as nutty as some Meeuw releases, but really good nonetheless." - Byron Coley, The Wire.

"2 brand new smash hits of horror percussion topped with eerie voices and a violin, broken under a bridge over sparkling water" - Dennis Tyfus.

Artist: MERRY, HARRY
Title: Harry Merry and barrel organ De Pansfluiter: Australian Sun
Format: 7"
Label: Meeuw Muzak
Country: Belgium
Price: $8.00
"Various friends of mine go wild over Harry Merry. They think hes witty, a genius, an outsider, a true composer in a new tradition or anything something alike. I dont belong to those people. I think Harry Merry, a singer and keyboard player, is a clever man, who carved with weirdness a niche for himself, performing at alternative art locations and every now and then releasing a new record. Here he has one on Meeuw Muzak - now theres a favorite label of mine! - produced by Dear Listener Martin Luiten, who by now has the role of in-house producer for Meeuw - and which label does have such a producer these days? Here he has a song where he sings along a barrel organ, with a song someone carved into the organ book. There are microphones everywhere, so we also the pages going through the organ, which add a very weird quality to the song. In fact its so weird that this easily might be the very first record I hear from Harry Merry that I truly like. Perhaps because I cant stand barrel organs out on the street? Will I listen to these differently next time I pass one? Negative plus negative makes positive? Curious little record with an instrumental version on the flip - now theres a daring move. Crazy indeed." - Frans de Waard, Vital Weekly.

Artist: MOSLANG, NORBERT & RALF WEHOWSKY
Title: Einschlagskrater
Format: 7"
Label: Meeuw Muzak
Country: Belgium
Price: $8.00
Norbert Moslang = 1/2 of Voice Crack. Ralf Wehohsky = RLW/P16 D4

Artist: MOSLANG, NORBERT/ WENDY GONDELN
Title: Betty
Format: 7"
Label: Meeuw Muzak
Country: Belgium
Price: $7.50
Edition of 300. "Another visual-arty 7” to be quietly restrained by the bleached aesthetic design of a Meeuw Muzak sleeve, MM046 is a pair of recondite Bettys. The Betty on Side A is the creation of Wendy Gondeln, who is perhaps far better known as contemporary German artist Albert Oehlen. Then Norbert Möslang introduces Side Bs betti-corr, and although Möslang also works in the visual arts he is more widely recognised as a practitioner of “cracked everyday electronics” and a former member of Swiss electronic free improvisation group Voice Crack. Further cross- pollination is represented by Oehlens occasional earlier endeavours in the musical field, playing in bands including Red Krayola, running a label and providing artwork for sleeves. Betty announces herself with a distorted gabber kick drum and a cheerfully naive organ figure which mischievously functions as a decoy for an aggressive and unstable violin to provide the main narrative from here on in. Overall the piece would make quite a good soundtrack for a fight in a pub, having a kind of senseless, unpredictable tension, the comedy of spontaneous violence. A couple of other sounds wade in, either placatory or adding to the damage. Particularly appealing is a rubbery voice-synthesis type purred gurgle that seems to attempt to act as an owl-like voice of reason, ultimately found wanting. By contrast Möslang produces a rich textural sound world sourced, I think, from the same violin (Is she Betty?) but here granulated into icy splinters and flung into ceiling-less spaces with the poker-faced accelerated elegance of Buster Keaton. Taken overall MM046 feels combative, exploratory, playful." — Pete Um, Winter 2016.

"Wendy Gondeln offers up a lo-tech, slow, techno rhythm with a number of additions/interruptions, many of which are violin. Norbert Möslang has a highly edited piece of what could be a lot of violin sounds, very manic and Musique Concrète-ish. Who knows what this means in the Meeuw Universe, but have an evening with some drinks and play through your Meeuw 7"s. You wont be sorry." - Swill Radio.

Artist: RECCHION, TOM
Title: Where Were You On Christmas?/Christmas Filled With Tears
Format: 7"
Label: Meeuw Muzak
Country: Netherlands
Price: $7.25
"Tom Recchion founded the Los Angeles Free Music Society in the late seventies (and if you can find it, try and get the 10 CD box that was released on RRRecords a while ago, which is an excellent documentation), and later on worked with David Toop, Keiji Haino, John Duncan and Smegma. For his solo work he loves exotica, which was ten years ago a term for lounge music of an exotic nature. Mood music played on an organ. These titles, Recchion uses a laptop with Ableton live.. Some strict editing certainly worked well on Tom Recchion contribution to what I call the darkest days of the year, or at least the most boring days. Like Mister Meeuw I dont like Christmas very much, but its a fine day to play all your alternative tunes and avoid Last Christmas and Mister Meeuw adds every year a new tune. Tom Recchion puts on his mood tune hat, and digs for some gospel preacher preaching where you were on christmas. The b-side has an even more sorrowful tune from a guy who lost his father and now he is all alone. Both pieces are precise and to the point. Let the season begin!" - Vital Weekly.

Artist: SCREAMERS
Title: Magazine Love b/w Cholo Jump
Format: 7"
Label: Meeuw Muzak
Country: Netherlands
Price: $6.00
"The Screamers were part of the 1st wave of west coast punk. They were together from 1977 - 81 and had roots that can be traced back nearly a decade. Founding members Tomata du Plenty and Tommy Gear had performed together in Ze Whiz Kidz, a lip-sync troupe which godfathered major rebirths of local scenes of performance art, modern dance, punk and the gay underground in Seattle in the early 70ies. In 1975 they formed The Tupperwares, an all drag trio which included Rio de Janeiro, Tomata and Melba Toast (Tommy). They performed a few shows in 1976 with the help of various underground Seattle musicians such as Bill Rieflien (of Rev-co fame) and members of his band The Telepaths. One of the first west coast DIY shows was put on by The Tupperwares, The Telepaths and Meyce on May 1st, 1976, at the Odd Fellows Temple - admission was $1.00. The spring of 1977 would see a move to LA by Tommy and Tomata where they meet and recruit KK Barrett and David Braun, and form The Screamers. Vocals, ARP Odessey synth, Fender Rhodes electric piano with fuzz box and drums was what they used to create their lo fi psycho kraftwerk performance punk attack. They became one of LAs all time biggest club bands and they were also its most mysterious. They are renowned as the original punk undergrounds most popular band, who vanished into thin air without ever releasing a single record, who never officially toured, and who were so far ahead of their time in doing away with electric guitars in aggressive rock music that they were called techno punk back in 1978. Style and theater were also so much part of The Screamers that nobody ever called them out for being a punk band with a full time stylist. The legendary west coast synth punk band live at the whisky, LA, 14.9.78, red vinyl, 400 copies." - Meeuw Muzak.

Title: I Wanna Be Your Dog
Format: 7"
Label: Meeuw Muzak
Country: Belgium
Price: $12.00
"If youd have asked me yesterday if I needed to hear another cover of the Stooges Wanna be your dog", the NO wouldve resonated like one of them Alps yodellers in the Riccola commercial. But after hearin Titmachines version of said overdone classic, Is liked to have choked to death on my cough drop. A tremendous neanderthalic, witchy all-fem DIY sucker punch right between the eyes of any of the greatest punk primitief classics you can name, right up there w/Kleenex & Manisch Depressiv. Id have peggedem as Swiss too, but theys Dutch & much like their infamous elm disease, Titmaster is more than capable of complete devastation. The B-side a wondrous mess as well & I am goin to the front of the line to wait impatiently for their next amazing release. Cmon, lets have it! NOW!" - SILTBLOG. "The four members of TITMACHINE met in prison (each was convicted of crimes she did not commit). Unable to find gainful employment upon their discharge from stoney lonesome, the ex-inmates formed a band, naturally, the ideal vehicle for the unemployable. The lucrative alternative Dutch music scene rewards them handsomely in exchange for the quartets release of pent-up rage fueled by continuing injustice. Since October 2006, Titmachines raw and loose sound has remained unhampered by the constraints of talent, and answers questions anyone has yet to ask. Kinda like the Dutch Shaggs meets the female Monks and Flipper with a conscience."-Meeuw Muzak. Restocked!

Artist: TYFUS, DENNIS & KRIS MAES
Title: Stevige Nacht/De Kerstdagen
Format: 7"
Label: Meeuw Muzak
Country: Belgium
Price: $7.50
"My turntable sometimes spins a bit oddly at 45 rpm, which in this case might work very much in its advantage. Meeuw Muzak dont do a Christmas 7" every year, but heres one for 2016, recorded by visual artist, Ultra Eczema boss and sound artist Dennis Tyfus, responsible for voice and cassettes, along with Kris Maes, who plays guitar and cut work, as well as doing the recording. In much of Tyfus work, as far as I know it, the voice plays a central role along with noise from mixing consoles and stuff he recorded on cassettes; a kind of lo-fi sound poetry perhaps. Here he has a collage of Christmas instrumentals, an atmospheric slide guitar playing one and his own voice announcing Kerst (Christmas, in case you didnt realize); it is quite a funny little tune, Stevige Nacht (fierce night, as opposed to silent night), with Tyfus (?) as a choir boy in the end.

I wont spoil what is funny about De Kerstdagen, and Im sure if you are not Dutch you wont get it at all, but I thought it was incredible funny. Now you see: Christmas might be a horrible time of the year or not, depending on how much you like to be on your own and I surely like to be on my own, drinking wine, smoking a good cigar and by now have the prospect of a great afternoon playing all Meeuw Muzak 7"s so far that deal with Christmas. On all the other kerstdagen I should play all the other Meeuw Muzak releases and then its New Years Day. Lovely! Bring those damned days on!" - Frans DeWaard.

Artist: VON EULER-DONNERSPERG, DITTERICH
Title: O Du Frohliche/O Tannenbaum Dub
Format: 7"
Label: Meeuw Muzak
Country: Netherlands
Price: $6.50
"And of course, the days are short, the nights are long and we must celebrate the birth of our saviour again. Christmas was no friend of mine. But there is one little bit of light in the dark days of christmas: Meeuw Muzak releases another fine 7". By now I can spend at least half boxing day listening to the crazy christmas tunes of Meeuw. The latest addition is by Dittrich von Euler-Donnersperg who has released some even more crazy music on his own Walter Ulbricht label and Die Stadt, with partly reading of texts and partly electronic music. Here he offers two soft electronic music pieces, which are like snowflakes (of course it never snows in Dutch christmas times). Almost kitchy and new age like on a super cheesy keyboard with all the wrong (and thus right) preset sounds, Dittrich is perhaps that great family man that such tunes under his tannenbaum for a wealth of happy children, who start unwrapping their presents as daddy finishes his tunes. Great stuff, once again. I cant wait for christmas with my Meeuw Muzak collection (isnt about time for a nice CD compilation, mister Meeuw)." -Meeuw Muzak.
