Artist: ABE VIGODA
Title: Skelaton
Format: Cass
Label: Not Not Fun
Country: USA
Price: $8.00
"Shit is cliché, but ya cant fight the fact that time changes EVERYTHING (or wait, maybe its money?). Either way: were pretty old but not so old weve forgotten the cradle days of early Abe Vigoda shows when they only liked Smashing Pumpkins, short shorts, and boating shoes, and their sets were short spiky blasts of post-Unwound lo-fi outsider-punk (a la the Sky Route/Star Roof LP). That was a long time ago. But like all good bands the Vigodans have re-invented themselves a half dozen times over since then, and its been a totally rad ride to witness the evolution/transformation, especially since their journeys culminated in the total sparkling tropic magic sunbath of Skeleton, the best AV record ever. Years of fiddling with delay pedal settings and intricate bass/drums equations somehow resulted in a weird, bright, upbeat island punk sound thats as catchy and life-affirming as it is tripped-out and overwhelming. Who knew? Catch these die-hards at a show in yr neck of the woods any day now; they are now on PERMA-TOUR. Pro-dubbed cassettes in a ⿿Columbia Records⿝-style super legit J-card. Edition of 200. This album is also available on CD and LP from our friends at Post Present Medium." -Not Not Fun

Title: Bridge to the Clouds

"Mesmerizing album of shamanic acoustic dread/bliss by this killer and evolving San Fran squad. This is a re-issue of the tour CDR they were slanging back when they rolled through the CURIO on a west coast cruise a couple months back. An NNF full-length is looming, were amped as heck. Silkscreened, spraypainted, and stamped arigato paks tied with ribbon. Edition of 147." -Not Not Fun.

Artist: BARN OWL
Title: From Our Mouths A Perpetual Light
Format: LP
Label: Not Not Fun
Country: USA
Price: $17.00
2011 repress, limited to 300 copies; originally a 2008 release. "Since first bearing witness to Barn Owls mythically desolate amplifier alchemy last year, weve been rabid fans/fanatics. But like lots of badass bands, BO are a rolling stone, heavy on the transformation tip, and the BO of today is an altered beast from the one that folkily fingerpicked Bridge To The Clouds and their self-titled disc way back when. And in case were not being clear: this is a beautiful thing. From Our Mouths A Perpetual Light burns with the sun-dead majesty of a Death Valley burial ground, all wasted waterless expanse and cracked earth smoke blowing in the dry wind. Heavy western drone revelations bleed into forlorn guitar drift, downcast percussion plods across the plain, a skull on its side lies in the sands. Evan Caminiti and Jon Porras have somehow flawlessly evolved Barn Owl into a blazing new universe, and From Our Mouths is the first mission statement from their new spectral/aesthetic outpost, a stunning and timeless eight-song suite of grim cinematic electricity. Tune in, drop dead, rot on. In swank matte jackets with four-armed demon warrior-yogi artwork by the band." - Not Not Fun.

Artist: BLACKHOODS
Title: Sunk
Format: Cass
Label: Not Not Fun
Country: USA
Price: $7.00
"U.K. shadow-duo Blackhoods espouse an uncompromisingly stripped strain of long-form echo-heavy battered amplifier worship: no names, no cities, no drummers, no mixers, no stages. They play on the floor, heads down, horns locked, guitar and bass and drum machine fed through heavy FX and blasted out a squadron of ratty cabinets. Sunk perfectly encapsulates their agenda and potential, a half-hour underwater hypno-slowdive of mossy guitar sludge, dub metronomes, downer low-end loops, and processional headbang, intercut with two textured electric north sea voids. A cool controlled burn of undertow riffing and grooved bunker percussion mechanics, right up our alley. Totemic sculpture/shroud J-card art by the band; individually stamped and hand-numbered. Edition of 100." - Not Not Fun.

Artist: CANKUN
Title: Isalo Waterfall
Format: Cass
Label: Not Not Fun
Country: USA
Price: $7.00
"St Flour de Mercoires patron saint of sunburned guitar and electric mirages issues forth this new homage to an exquisite natural wonder in Southwestern Madagascar which Monsieur CANKUN had the pleasure and privilege of witnessing first hand on a personal quest years prior. The strategies employed on last years debut, Jaguar Dance, are in even finer form here, fusing solar flares, feathery fields of guitar blur, and skeletal groove metronomes into multi-movement trance states of sunset skyway-psych. Moods crossfade between muted, spiraling, inner space loop-cruises ("Collages," "Stylo") and more revved up celebratory waverunners ("Blue Vanilla", "Jugular Rhythms") but all share his uniquely fried tonalism and magic touch. Welcome to the waterworld of the Waterfall. Pro-dubbed metallic gold tapes with ecstasy collage artwork by VALERIAN MARGUERY. Edition of 150." -Not Not Fun.

Ghost With Chains is their third official full-length (not including some EPs and a killer split) and its as beautifully moon-burnt and highway-swept as anything theyve done." -Not Not Fun.

Artist: EMACIATOR
Title: Coveting
Format: LP
Label: Not Not Fun
Country: USA
Price: $16.00
"Misery wears many masks, but Tulare, California fatalist Jon Borges has etched his mark on most of them. For at least half a decade, hes pursued increasingly suicidal tendencies under his Pedestrian Deposit guise (which is currently on hiatus), splicing subdued loops of morbid beauty against savage canyons of harsh noise histrionics. Lately, though, hes been straying more and more from this aggressive exercise in contrasts in favor of his Emaciator alias, which draws from the same dark wellspring of bitter memories and bipolar rage but, instead of unleashing it in grand frenzies, bottles everything up inside until it seeps out of the pores. Early efforts/cassettes retained a strain of buzzing nausea reminiscent of his PD days, but the last 12 months have witnessed a complete abandonment of any ties to the past. Times are still bleak, sure, but the grey prisms of brooding ambience Borges now conjures and slowly collapses convey a depth of mood and subtlety far surpassing simple signifiers like indifference, resentment, or remorse. Coveting collects together five exquisite Emaciator compositions (including two particularly riveting songs that were debuted live at Echo Curio) for a harrowing 40 minutes of troubled solace, crisscrossing suicide guitar lines, and entranced self-reflection. Meditation is a myth; desire does not sleep. Black vinyl LPs in shrinkwrapped jackets with photography and layout by Borges. Mastered by Pete Swanson, edition of 430."-Not Not Fun

Artist: ENSEMBLE ECONOMIQUE
Title: Fever Logic
Format: LP
Label: Not Not Fun
Country: USA
Price: $15.00
"ENSEMBLE ECONOMIQUE has emerged as an unusually globe-trotting creative valve for Arcata, CA, beachcomber BRIAN PYLE. The last year alone has seen him backpacking through Scandinavia, Europe and Russia-twice. Maybe his spirits too absorbent, cause hes brought back some deeply heavier moods and ancient world weariness since his last outing on Not Not Fun, 2010s demonic tribal monsoon Psychical. Recent splits with similarly instinctual psychedelic unclassifiables like Lee Noble and Heroin in Tahiti have hinted at his bracing off-roader headspace, but he bares all on Fever Logic, six songs smeared across 40 minutes. Pyle positions each composition as a slow-motion funereal landslide; grey clay electronics losing form, echoes of processed guitar, depressive synth mist, all drizzling down over his wailing prisoners prayer vocals. A few flirt with slightly more overt goth-gaze signifiers ("Walking into the Light," "We Come Spinning Out of Control"), but the rest run closer to some kind of miasmic electronic abstraction mode, merging submerged mumbling and isolationist field recordings with intensely personal melodies and spacious cathedrals of ritual guitar. As with so many of Pyles past steps, its all-consuming and all out on its own (the only guest appearance is his brother, JON, echo-plexing some occult percussion to the opening track). Strictly limited to 450 copies." - Not Not Fun.

Artist: ENSEMBLE ECONOMIQUE
Title: Live In London
Format: Cass
Label: Not Not Fun
Country: USA
Price: $7.00
"BRIAN PYLEs work under the ENSEMBLE ECONOMIQUE banner has been undergoing heavy shift lately, prompted by both creative restlessness as well as inner life upheavals. Hes quested out on 2 lone wolf UK/Euro tours in the past half-year alone, plus dropped an ace LP on the Dekorder label of ominous soundtrack menace. When rapid transformation takes hold, its best to just roll tape and make sense of it later. Thus, in anticipation of his forthcoming 2012 NNF full-length, we present EE: Live In London, an impressively recorded 37-minute performance at The Vortex in August of last year, comprised of all new material. Primitive drum machine rhythms stutter in primal-industrial patterns, cloaked in disquieting drones and oblique tape samples (police sirens, jungle bird calls, Sinead OConnor vocal raptures), accompanied by pained crooning, ragged squalls of electric guitar, and minor-key synth depressions. More song-based than his voodoo hallucination breakthrough, 2010s Psychical, but no less unsettling, the new Economique approach has shades of Eyeless In Gazas eerie, fatalist drift but the thrust is some sort of goth-psych/beat music hybrid that were not aware even really exists yet. A captivating document of an artist at the crossroads. White, imprinted tapes with high-art jazz-splatter J-cards designed by AMANDA BROWN. Edition of 150." -Not Not Fun.

Artist: ENSEMBLE ECONOMIQUE
Title: Psychical
Format: LP
Label: Not Not Fun
Country: USA
Price: $15.00
"Brian Pyle is well-known for his enterprising shamanism as one half of Nor Cal improv gurus Starving Weirdos but when off-roading in his Ensemble Economique buggy he seems to stumble onto even weirder psychogenic artifacts. Psychical is Pyles freshest full-length and easily his most drugged and dense. Thick, humid banks of synth-fog descend over looped cult hand-drum patterns, strangely panned waves of brainwash tones, and snippets of third world voices mumbling about blood and marijuana. As the name half-jokingly implies, EE is 100% Pyles creation instrument-wise, although his wife Phoenix does intone some possessed doom poetry over the crushing war drums of Forever Eyes and Tom Carter (of Charalambides) cameos with some searing white light guitar shrapnel on the creep-out raga of Real Things. All the pieces dissolve into one another, giving Psychical a dark-trip soundtrack mood, an upriver lost soul convoy into hostile off-radar territories, a thousand spectral voices misting down like blackening monsoon clouds. A total haunter, and an LP weve been spinning many midnights around NNF HQ. Black vinyl LPs in jackets with occult VHS artwork by Manda Beth Brown. Edition of 470." -Not Not Fun

Artist: ETHER ISLAND
Title: Season of Risk
Format: 7"
Label: Not Not Fun
Country: USA
Price: $7.00
"Among the legions of bands weve worked with that have died natural (or unnatural) deaths, MYTHICAL BEAST was a particularly lament-worthy casualty. Fortunately phoenixes rise, creative energies get repurposed and reharnessed, and whats gone is not always lost. So it is that singer/kettle drummer CORINNE SWEENEY and guitarist/multi-instrumentalist JEREMIAH COWLIN abandoned Philly for the Nowheresville of Coyote, New Mexico to live off the grid with other address-less culture renegades and be reborn as post-apocalyptic grunge-drone doom-soul duo ETHER ISLAND. A Side opener "Season Of Risk" corrals a mud-flood of thick tectonic shred over a buried beat, Sweeneys vox tearing through in hot red flashes like a prairie flash fire (tonally, its total 4-Track Demos-era PJ, raw and sensual). "Be Light" vibrates more vertically, rising like a smoke signal, a threatening cloud of raga strings and delay-stretched witch-blues vox. "Black Wind Way" deathmarches across the entirety of the B, plodding like a dying mule over parched plains, tremolo guitar hatcheting down, a single funereal organ melody threading over the sands and into the silence. Three singular statements from two old favorites on this one perfect nomad-psych slab. Black vinyl 7 inches in color-photocopied covers, with art/design by EL. Edition of 325." -Not Not Fun.

Title: Lifetime Of Romance
Format: LP
Label: Not Not Fun
Country: USA
Price: $15.00
"Heartland synthesist Dylan Ettinger follows up 2010s widely lauded New Age Outlaws imaginary cyber-soundtrack with a stark, dark, and intensely different collection of misshapen new wave weirdnesses, Lifetime Of Romance. Recorded at a proper studio, and written over the course of a year, the seven songs of Romance reflect a heavy influence from the fringier strains of bummed out quasi-industrial synth-pop in the vein of Fad Gadget, certain Cabaret Voltaire, early Human League, etc, but dragged through his own warped, wonky filter. The approaches vary radically, from abandoned factory dirges (Sport And Superstion, Maude) to dubbed-out man-machine paranoia (Disparager) to bouncy sine-wave robot radio singles (Arco Iris, Blue and Blue) and general electronic workshop exploration (18.0). Its always to be heralded when an artist braves terrain they havent traversed yet, so its a kick to hear Ettingers secret circuitry language channeled into the pop architectures of twisted synth-wave melancholia for the first time. Another engaging step by an always intriguing American original." -Not Not Fun.

Title: New Age Outlaws
Format: LP
Label: Not Not Fun
Country: USA
Price: $15.00
"Back in March of this year we released Dr. Ettingers New Age Outlaws album on cassette and it was great. But artists -- in case you didnt know -- aint easily satisfied, and so Dylan felt compelled to return to the master tapes and further articulate the new age sci-fi ambient drift jazz vision of those pieces into something even grander and more elegant. Sounded like a worthwhile cause to us, so heres New Age Outlaws: The Directors Cut, mastered fresh for vinyl and bedazzled with new layers of robot noir synth lines, back alley cyber sax, and insomniac drum machine heartbeats. Dylan even architected a new track sequence and re-named a couple songs. Black vinyl LPs in jackets with stunning alien vista artwork by Dan McPharlin, plus a photocopied insert. Artist: ETTRICK
Title: Feeders of Ravens
Format: LP
Label: Not Not Fun
Country: USA
Price: $11.00
"Prepare for sudden death. San Francisco brutalizers Ettrick finally deliver the full-length destruction theyve been threatening for so long now. Feeders of Ravens is definitely the most potent collection of harsh jazz violence the duos ever laid to tape, showcasing all their classic kill-moves: slaughtering saxophone dialogues, jittery percussive fits, raging horn/drum self-annihilation, etc. What escalates their improv attacks above just blind frenzy is the warped telepathy Jacob Heule and Jay Korber exhibit in their playing, wordlessly intuiting one anothers energy upswings and downturns. And nowhere is this psychic connection more apparent (and demonic) than on "Raven Harvest,⿝ the LPs final onslaught. Searing sax blasts burn through the ear drum, giving way to splatter paint percussion flailings and scraping metal, which then slowly take shape, coagulating into a dense, aggressive avalanche of pummeling, white-hot drum rapture. Life into death into life. Black LPs in pro-printed jackets with majestically sinuous, Haida-style cover art (and memento mori raven back art). Limited to 350." -Not Not Fun.

Title: Bermuda Telepaths
Format: LP
Label: Not Not Fun
Country: USA
Price: $13.00
"Bermuda Telepaths is the latest title lifted out of the fruit-and-photocopy-strewn Outer Limits Recordings archive and into the ears of the world at large. Recorded under the never-again-used Explorers moniker and first edited into album form about a year ago, this hallucinatory patchwork trip into the ether synthesizes all of OLRs deepest loves -- boombox fidelity, quick cuts, keyboard loop sorcery, underwater pop, general mind surfing -- into a humbly hypnotic whirlpool of energies. Apparently there was a concept/thesis behind the albums genesis somehow involving psychic powers, lizard people, and the Bermuda Triangle, but the details are hazy. Which befits the audio in question. Read your palm. Take a walk in your thoughts. Explore away. Black vinyl LPs in jackets with artwork designed by the artist, plus a copy shop poem insert. Title: Split

Price: $9.00
"He-Man used to live in Castle Grayskull. That place was fucking haunted (proof? you point a sword at the sky, chant "I have the power", and turn into a hulk). So is this black-on-black 10" of wretched hallows eve spook-noise. Haunted Castle are a suburban Detroit duo of tortured basement clatter and poltergeist attack thrash, and their cacophony ritual here ("Rainbow of Octopi") is a cauldron of psychic evil and wraith frenzy. Easthamptons Grey Skull are a little more physical, starting a skeleton brawl with harsh tones, seizure shriek, and occult war drums. A trio of rad dudes (and sweet artists), GS bury their record in a mean, dead haze. Insanely awesome screen-printed, die-cut covers by Shawn Reed of Raccoo-oo-oon. Also, first 40 copies come with a bonus 3" CDR (either Haunted Castle or Grey Skull)." - Not Not Fun.

We Grow is the apex realization of every tectonic assault, wind tunnel vortex, and outer space meltdown HW have ever unleashed across the past 15 months worth of stunning CDRs, splits, and comp appearances. Title: Ascension
Format: LP
Label: Not Not Fun
Country: USA
Price: $15.00
"Pyramidal meditationist High Wolf has been highly active since last summers Animal Totem tape dropped on NNF: hes released three full-length CDRs, started his own record label (Winged Sun), begun a mail-collab with Astral Social Club (as Iibiis Rooge), embarked on two UK/Euro tours (one with heavyweights Gnod), plus trekked out on a month-long solo journey through India to collect field recordings and get deep. Whoa! Makes you feel lazy right? Well actually thats not all, as he also spent a few months somewhere in there recording, mixing, and re-recording the five multifaceted ethno-flux odysseys that comprise Ascension, his debut vinyl full-length. Utilizing his usual toolbag of looped tablas, fuzz guitar leads, chiming white light guitar, synth swells, and cloud-climbing electronics, the album safaris through a host of ecstatic ritual landscapes with more focus and magic than any other High Wolf hunt to date. A beautiful album for dissolving, dreaming, dancing (in a certain way). Been spinning this one weekly, share the flight. Black vinyl LPs mastered by Pete Swanson and housed in jackets with artwork by Kaugummi Magazine captain Bartolome Sanson. Edition of 400." -Not Not Fun

Title: Kairos: Chronos
Format: LP
Label: Not Not Fun

Price: $15.00
"French globe-tourist HIGH WOLF has hand-rolled his way up Mount Fuji, trainspotted every corner of Europe, hitch-hiked across America and Australia, chugged Ganges water, and crouched on all manner of smoke-stained prayer rug since first looping a bongo back in 09. His apprenticeship in the House of Wah nearly complete, hes hinted at a potentially seismic shift in the High Wolf third eye doctrine lurking in the near future; perhaps his Away Team exfoliation moment is nigh. Fortunately, Not Not Fun has coaxed the astral jungle jah concoctions of Kairos: Chronos out from the ether, because this LP is the summation of his entire half-decade Amazon Cosmos quest. All the tenets of the High Wolf mythology are in place: humid hand-percussion heat-spells, coiling snake-charmer fuzz-guitar stacked six deep, sunlit synth textures, dubby bass-lines thumping through grass amps, ceremonial voodoo babble, etc. From the hidden temple hymn "Kulti" to the thirteen-minute self-beheading solar eclipse shakedown, "Alvarado," the record represents rarified proof of The Wolf on High. Title: Silver Sea Surfer School

Label: Not Not Fun
Country: USA
Price: $17.00
"EVA SAELENS life quest has taken her from Michigan to Oregon to Oakland back to Portland and back again, with several overseas explorations and inner journey road trips thrown in for good measure. Whatever path shes on is long and winding and hidden in the shadow of overhanging cherimoya trees. Fortunately she maps her migrations with haunted, exotic breath-and-electricity sphinxes ranging from 2006s Brute Nature Vs. Wild Magic to last years brainwashing Birthday Of Bless You LP. 2009 finds her offering up another psychic harvest unto the world, Silver Sea Surfer School, a new nine-song pipeline ride that floats through a whole new web of voice orbs and tape hiss and keyboard balladry. If anything, Silver Sea is Saelens weirdest hour, layered in abstract environments, whispers, distant poetry, free percussion loops, with sudden passages of heart-dissolving ghost-piano beauty ("Shine On From The Heaven Above," "Adventure In Light"). Heavily impressive, and a brave pearl-dive into even more personal waters for the INCA ORE lifeforce. LPs come in jackets with art by Saelens, plus a full-color insert. Title: S/T
Format: LP
Label: Not Not Fun
Country: USA
Price: $15.00
"San Franciscan Peter Berends mystery mixtape unit, KWJAZ, flashed forth this debut self-titled slab of post-plastic sublime decomposed luxury grooves on cassette via his own rarified Brunch Groupe imprint early in 2011 and the 120 listeners lucky enough to grip a copy know who they are. It only took half a listen before we green-lit this tape-degraded gem for vinyl treatment and we are dee-lighted to present it thusly. Comprised of two side-long suites, Once In Babylon and the oddly monikered Frighteous Wane, KWJAZ nimbly ebbs and flows the proceedings through airy cloud-jazz passages (complete with smoky crystal vibes keys and narcotic hiss-hazed horn sections), bouncy weirdo dub-funk vignettes, stretched-out syrupy synth stews, and smooth faux-Steely D soft-rock abstractions, all without ever sounding schizo or style-hoppy. A major feat, and a real riddle of an LP that deepens and ripens with each spin. Hopefully you were savvy enough to catch him on his recent coast-to-coast summer tour with Swanox and Sudden Oak; if not, tune in to this. Black vinyl LPs (mastered at Dubplates in Berlin) in jackets with cosmic floral artwork by Austin Cho/Casey Grr. Edition of 700." -Not Not Fun

Price: $15.00
"Virtual reality trans-time zone collab between So-Cal sample sister LA Vampires and Madison, WI (though soon to be LA!) neo-Siouxsie Zola Jesus. Despite the distance the respective vibes vibe beautifully. Cold dub rhythms echo down grimy corridors while heartbroken tag-team femme howls come bleeding out of the horizon drenched in spectral delay. Theres a few bangers (Bone Is Bloodstone, Looking In), a few ballads (In The Desert, Vous), and a couple quasi-covers (Searching, No No No), so every mood is given its due. Local photographer (and drummer) extraordinaire Caitlin C. Mitchell even lays down some smoky trumpet on one track. Additional deep space Moog and production duties were handled by City Terrace studio wizard M. Geddes Gengras. A dark, gleaming gem of a 12", and cool step sideways for both artists. 45 RPM black vinyl LPs in disco-hole sleeves with artwork and layout by Manda Beth Brown. Edition of 600." -Not Not Fun

Title: So Unreal
Format: LP
Label: Not Not Fun
Country: USA
Price: $15.00
"Episode two in season one of the LA Vampires Collab Chronicles finds her joining forces with elusive alien discotech-head Matrix Metals of the nomadic Outer Limits Recordings cabal. Blurry ornate cassette-loop architectures groove and grind under jazzy Casio canopies while Ms. LA Vamps screws it all down and layers in additional square wave keyboard lines, echo chamber FX, drum machine detailing, low-end throbs, and sings lead on a gold spraypainted microphone. The entire LPs got that melting-on-the-dashboard warped-world tonality of all the best Outer Limits tracks, and the fried radio-rhythm Matrix beats definitely coax out a cool hidden sunbleached LA V faux-pop vocal style not evident on any of her previous vinyl. Elaborately 4-tracked over the summer and microscopically mixed by M. Geddes Gengras, So Unreal is exactly that, and a rad synergistic statement by both parties. "German steamroom wrecking crew LX SWEAT returns from a winter of festival dates and self-symbiosis to lay out an impressively realized full-length debut of voidist club fantasia, equal parts Screw bootlegs, slow-jack synth freestyle, and degraded phaser wash. City of Sweat spirals through a judgement night of weird, codeined lust, luxury hallucinations, overdosed syrup rituals, and long, blurry nights stumbling home through alleys in the rain. Like last years Sweat Sweat Sweat cassette, this new LP siphons certain R&B and Memphis swap-meet structures but stretches them so they sprawl and sag and slide in strange moments, giving the songs a mesmerizing melting quality, like hearing overheated vinyl dissolving into the needle. An entrancing, numbed-out suite of pleasure-faded electronics by a rare head. Original artwork / design by Los Angeles visual artist Spencer Longo. CD version to follow." -Not Not Fun.

Price: $22.00
"After far, far too long lost in the merch-less dark, the LBCs most married band, Magic Lantern, finally beam down the blinding full-length psych-statement we always knew they had hidden inside. It only took the Southern California sector a single 5-song demo plus a handful of incense-dense komische live flights to fully fall under the spell of MLs oncoming headlights, but now the rest of the globe can hop on the bands wild wagon. Hold on. High Beams throws out the total 20-sided die of the their illuminative powers, from stomping, storming show staples like Deathshead Hawkmoth and Vampires In Heat through to Sun Araw-vibed chime trancers (Feasting On Energy) and even a good time acid-addled feedback boogie (Cactus Raga). These are all of the Lanterns classic long-form anthems, captured in glorious high-def thanks to Bobb Brunos attuned production/recording capabilities and a radiant mastering job courtesy of James Plotkin. The riffs rip, the drums destroy, and the organ burns a hole in the sun. Walk into the light. Artist: MINERVA, MARIA
Title: Cabaret Cixous
Format: LP
Label: Not Not Fun
Country: USA
Price: $15.00
"Estonian Euro-beat enchantress Maria Juur aka Maria Minerva has had a lively 2011 already -- releasing a chic suite of glamour-pop abstractions via her debut, Tallinn At Dawn, as well as a sultry, sideways bedroom disco EP (Noble Savage) on 100% Silk. But time is money and money talks (or something) so rather than let a hot streak go cold Ms. Maria has crafted a fresh 11-song dream ride down fascination street, which were pumped and proud to unveil: Cabaret Cixous. Apparently theres a tradition/inside joke amongst a fringe strain of Estonian bands where you have to name yr album something with cabaret in the title, but regardless of ones knowledge of this micro-custom, Cab Cixous is a gorgeous, gauzy thrill, slip-streaming from cracked-crystal karaoke pop singles (These Days, Ruff Trade, Soo High) to slow-motion synth-washed ballads (Lovecool, Spiral) to radical miscellzanies (the alien soundsystem banger, Laulan Paikse Kaes, a cellphone-fidelity Abba cover, etc) and beyond. Artist: MOON POOL & DEAD BAND
Title: Human Fly
Format: LP
Label: Not Not Fun
Country: USA
Price: $15.00
"Detroit deviants MOON POOL & DEAD BAND hardwire their gutter-disco waveforms with all the slime lab atmospherics and sci-fi circuitry scuzz that one might expect (and hope for) from a duo comprised of veteran garage-punk drummer DAVE SHETTLER and WOLF EYES noise lifer NATE YOUNG. Utilizing a swap meets worth of crusty synths, sequencers, drum machines and outmoded FX units, and adhering to a purists regimen of "all live and improvised, no overdubs," Moon Pool & Dead Bands rogue-wizard approach to basement beat music has already birthed some refreshingly unclassifiable tunnel-rat techno (see their self-titled 12-inch on Agitated for proof), but "Human Fly" feels like their unambiguous highlight to date.  Motoring on a busted industrial-funk rhythm, the title track grinds and grooves through a maze of modular synth sparks, acid ooze and fried smoke before stopping suddenly to reveal a Cramps sample sputtering tinnily under all the noise; then, with almost a comic sense of timing, they re-bury it in the pumping pulse of duct-taped electronics. "Jagged Orbit" and "Cyber Rebels" ebb and flow with a lighter touch while looped percussion, jazzy house leads and synthesizer shrapnel echo across the stereo field like soft comets, the beats finally fading away in soothing waves of deep space hiss. An unusual synthesis of vibes and ideas, "Human Fly" is an ideal addition to the canon of inexplicable American EBM originators. Limited edition of 500." - Not Not Fun.

Title: Jailhouse Rock
Format: LP
Label: Not Not Fun
Country: USA
Price: $15.00
"Its been a while since Scorces sorceress, Jandek collaborator, and Volcanic Tongue branch manager Heather Leigh has ventured out on vinyl under her own name. And it may be a while longer, as Jailhouse Rock is in fact a wax reissue of a long OOP 2006 cassette classic on Michigan crud factory Fag Tapes. It was a fave of ours that year (and every year), so it feels extra celebratory to be able to offer up a freshly remastered (by Pete Swanson) LP edition of the album for global re-appreciation. Sprawling, long-form descent/ascents into mythic electric disorientation, powered by her trademark recipe of FX-soaked pedal steel and voice. Jailhouse feels loosely more aligned with a mid-aughts drone/noise aesthetic than the outsider dirt road Americana of her Devil If You Can Hear Me LP (also on NNF), but the distinction is a slight one. Side A swims in swooping sheets of vox and tempestuous wind tunnel dynamics before slowly dying away to wheezing disembodied harmonica. The B piece begins in a more overtly beautiful mode, a trinity of crystalline notes picked and stretched until theyre transformed into a rapturous sky of textural distortion. Sensual and vertigo-inducing in equal measure. Black vinyl LPs in jackets with brand new paint/collage artwork by Heath Moerland (of Sick Llama, Slither, Odd Clouds, etc). Title: Deceiving Illusion
Format: LP
Label: Not Not Fun
Country: USA
Price: $19.00
"A thousand years ago, in 2006, Michigan moonlighters Odd Clouds drizzled down their LP opus, The Cavernous End. Within the sphere of open-eyed freeform organized psych-jazz sprawl, nothing compared. Years later that album still kills, but not much has followed in its wake (there have been some loose tapes but those are more in the crude basement fuckaround vein). So we are personally xxtremely pleased to be able to finally offer up the bands latest album-length affair, Deceiving Illusion. A six-song spelunk into the deranged group brain responsible for noise scene mainstays like Fag Tapes and Tasty Soil Records, Illusion rumbles through a hall of mirrors of zones/styles, from freaky garbage punk to robot throat games to motorik brass meditations to unhinged 70s German commune beardo psych-blazers. The journey is the destination and all that. Abuse yr Illusion. Black vinyl LPs in 3-color pro-silkscreened jackets with artwork by Chris Pottinger and Jamie Easter, plus a double-sided photocopied insert. Edition of 400."

Artist: PEAKING LIGHTS
Title: 936
Format: LP
Label: Not Not Fun
Country: USA
Price: $15.00
"Sometimes it feels so simple: two of our favorite people in one of our favorite bands release one of our favorite records of all time. 2009s Imaginary Falcons was its own genius slushpile of tape-hissy drift-dub haze anthems, no question, but 936 takes every facet of the Peaking Lights mighty diamond and shines it to fluorescent perfection. The songwriting is insane; All The Sun That Shines, Amazing & Wonderful, Tiger Eyes (Laid Back), etc, all seep into yr mindstream and float there like melodic gold dust. Indra Dunis silky soul-jazz keys and tranced vocals have never sounded so exquisite, and Aaron Coyes busts out the best bass/drum loops and sneaky dub guitar of his musical lifetime. Recorded by Luke Tweedy at Flat Black Studios in Iowa City (where both the NNF Wet Hair LPs were tracked) and mastered in Berlin, 936 retains the cool crate-digger grit of their earlier highlights, but within a much more vivid spectrum of sound. Could not be more jazzed and honored to unveil this total groove-wave classic." -Not Not Fun

Title: Threshold/Echolocation
Format: 7"

"Ashes to ashes, dust to dust, bands to solo projects -- its all the same arc. And here it is, the final RIP action by star-crossed NNF institution Pocahaunted and the only recorded document of the final triforce-vocal line-up featuring Leyna Noel on keys/crooning/dance magic. On the final day of their 3-week spring 10 US tour, the band booked a session at Louder Studios in San Francisco with Tim Green (Nation Of Ulyssess/Fucking Champs, etc) and it marks Pocas first & last time working in a proper studio setting. The results blaze/amaze. Threshold was written on the road and melts through a river mistress intro before revving into a tense kraut-funk burner with catchy (and surprisingly non-FX-soaked) femme-soul vocables cascading down from every side. The B, Echolocation, is a tranced ghost-reggae comedown ballad and classic slow-dance live staple. Nimble bass maneuvering by whimsy princess Diva Dompe leads the melody up through the choruses into the torch-song bridge climax that leaves everybody on the floor. Roll the credits, this is the end. Black vinyl 7 inches in sleeves with collage/paint artwork by Manda B Brown and Diva Dompe, plus a photocopied insert. Edition of 500." - Not Not Fun

"Sadly (for us left coasters), in November Leyna Noel aka PSYCHIC REALITY decamped from SF to NYC, but before packing up her every worldly possession and road-tripping trans-America she eked out a sliver of precious time to hole up in the studio with Phil Manley (Trans Am, Jonas Reinhardt, etc) and record her long-awaited debut full-length on thick 2 inch tape. Vibrant New Age is the result. The name says it all. But Noels New Age is not the 80s redux fad of healing crystals, pastel fades, dolphin consciousness, etc, but a living, electrified awakening. From the high drama drum machinery of "Fruit" and "Expla" to the naked, airy avant-pop of "Hi High" and "Fanta" through to the stuttery, mechanized power ballad finale, "Soft Script," this is Noel at her most majestic and fully realized and its a wild life-force to behold. Price: $15.00
"Every days as new as you want it to be so take up the torch and light something unlit. Definite off-the-grid mentalities prevail on this genre-dissolving split 12" between San Fran anima soul voyager Leyna Noel aka Psychic Reality and So-Cal acid-jazz crate-digger LA Vampires. Noels toured the states coast-to-coast and dropped a couple potent tape/CDR effigies, but this is her vinyl debut and it captures everything searing and singular about her live alchemy in glowing, glorious detail. Four inter-flowing songs of tone-float piano keys, bedroom drum machines, and white light amplifier vox. Trance-damaged and truth-seeking. LA Vampires side madlibs through a more mercurial matrix, using slowed/screwed tapes, boombox Casio FX, low end theories, and bleached voice patterns to conjure a reverb chambers worth of dance floor mirages. Future collabs with Zola Jesus and Sun Araw should expound her rhythm method mission. Abuse yr illusion. Black vinyl LPs in glossy jackets with a boldly disrobed duo cover portrait by Caitlin C. Artist: RACCOO-OO-OON
Title: Raccoo-oo-oon
Format: Double LP
Label: Not Not Fun
Country: USA
Price: $22.00
"All things must come to pass, if you love something set it free, its better to burn out than fade away, blah blah blah. No platitude can mask the permanent bummer of a favorite band breaking up in their prime, and such is the case with Iowa Citys most untamed civic treasure, feral-psych foursome Raccoo-oo-oon, who decided to dissolve this year after nearly half a decade of radical and galvanizing activity (tapes, tours, t-shirts, etc). Fortunately theyre generous sorts, so their parting gift to the fans/haters/planet is a vicious, thorny wilderness of endless, nameless songs heaved across four fried sides of black vinyl. Crawl a mile in their shoes. As far as R.I.P. band statements go, this self-titled monster is tough to beat, by far the most ambitious slabs of sounds the RAC pack has ever put together. Doomed, desperate prog-rock flailings decay into hollow purgatories of dimly pulsing ambience, only to re-erupt into pissed percussion firestorms and experimental electricity. There are a few moments of Behold Secret Kingdom-style focus, but for the most part the mood remains raw and acidic, four souls on edge, backs to the crowd, channeling everything they have left inside. Its deconstruction time again. Nearly 80 minutes of music, mastered by Pete Swanson, housed in reinforced double LP jackets with Andy/Daren in repose photo artwork, plus a pro-printed 11x11 insert. Edition of 500." - Not Not Fun.

Artist: RANGERS
Title: Pan Am Stories
Format: Double LP
Label: Not Not Fun
Country: USA
Price: $30.00
"Tape-warped phantom band Rangers finally unleash the lush, soaring, expansive prog-pop opus we always knew was floating inside the fretboard (and imagination) of multi-instrumentalist mystery maestro Joe Knight. The north Dallas-raised, San Fran-residing head Ranger grew up taking classical guitar lessons from a dude who claimed to have toured with the Dead, and some of that brain-wonked jam agenda obviously seeped into the young Knight, who began recording his own loose, lo-fi jangle sprawls in 2005. But whereas last years critically lauded Suburban Tours LP found him condensing his cassette-crushed alien pop into 3 minute radio nuggets, Pan Am Stories uses the reverse strategy, letting each blurry strum pattern coast away and ride the breeze a bit before steering it into a fresh counter-melody or flanged-out guitar comedown. The extra breath and space gives the 13 songs a real sense of freedom and lightness and flight, layered in gentle blankets of fuzz, silky reverb, and audio collage riddles. A total saga, and a summit achievement of next-level invention for Knight as a musician (its insane he played/recorded every instrument on this thing!) and artist. Have been soaking in these tracks non-stop since we first heard em this summer and are thrilled to get to share Stories with the world. Black vinyl LPs (mastered by Carl Saff, who worked on Suburban Tours too) in gatefold jackets with micro-detailed collage art by Mr. Rangers himself; interior artwork by Knight and Anthony Yuen. Edition of 850." - Not Not Fun.

Title: Music For The Tactile Dome
Format: LP
Label: Not Not Fun
Country: USA
Price: $15.00
"The hermetic kosmische lexicon of San Fran-based synth synthesist/composer Jesse Reiner (Jonas Reinhardts founder and principal architect) has been simmering and swelling at a steady clip the past few years (2010s Powers Of Audition was def a highlight), but the added talents of drummer Damon Palermo (Mi Ami), bassist Diego Gonzalez (Citay, 3 Leafs), and guitarist Phil Manley (Trans Am, more) has levitated the JR Experience to a whole new head-music hall o fame. Recorded in Berlin, mixed in SF, then mastered/cut back in Berlin at Dubplates, Music For The Tactile Dome is easily the most deep-trip micro-focus Jonas odyssey to date, nine technicolor fractals of glittering synthesizer skyways and master-crafted pulsing kraut terrariums. A handful of tracks (Smokey Jotus, Hander Zader, etc) invoke more of the classic live JR vibe, with propulsive cold-grooved rhythm sectioning, but by and large Dome is designed for heavy headphone communion, an expanding magic eye tapestry of brainwave activity constellations. Black vinyl LPs in jackets with beautiful spectrum-assemblage cover art by Sean Patrick. Edition of 650." - Not Not Fun.

Artist: ROBEDOOR
Title: Pacific Drift
Format: 7"
Label: Not Not Fun
Country: USA
Price: $7.00
"Way too much is made these days of looking back, memory, social network fantasias. What a bummer, cause realitys a bad experience and 2012 is on deck; we deserve whatever we get. Evolve or erode, dudes. LA visigoths Robedoor slip into another sinkhole of voidist shadow-rock with Pacific Drift, three new tracks recorded across the last greylight winter. The A side stirs into a jazzy apocalypto depression with flute-keys and an overdriven OM groove that spirals in a web of distortion before drifting out to sea/silence. The flip finds a pair of deeply mutated RBDR genetic codes, one a mantric death-punk protest song cloaked in smoke and speed, the other a 3 AM slow-motion soul implosion set to upright piano, descending bass, tear garden guitar, and acid rain. The coast is a ghost, the city seethes. Mixed and mastered by M. Geddes Gengras at Green Machine in east LA. Black vinyl 7 inches in sleeves with corpse-diver artwork and a band photo by Caitlin C. Mitchell. Edition of 500." - Not Not Fun

Title: Raiders
Format: LP
Label: Not Not Fun
Country: USA
Price: $15.00
"Following their 2008 East Coast tour with Woods and Pocahaunted the Robedoor agenda has mainly been: hibernating in the City Terrace zone above east LA, adding a drummer/modular synth dealer, and letting the smoke rise. Raiders is the first RBDR LP since 2008s Endlessly Blazing and is the result of almost six months of slow-burn transformative tape machine meditation helmed by Mr. Ged Gengras. Bummed guitars, loner drone tones, low caverns of reverbed drums and rumble, echo dislocation, and dead voices cascade down into the isolated highways. Song modes are carved out and then left to rot. Features early trio live set staples like Indo Shadow and The Downcast Eye. You cant stick your hand in the same black river twice. Change or be changed. LPs in jackets with cover photo by Caitlin C. Title: Gagged in Boonesville
Format: LP
Label: Not Not Fun
Country: USA
Price: $15.00
"Providence, RI, garbage-artisan savant RUSSIAN TSARLAG (aka CARLOS GONZALES) should need no introduction at this point-hes been trucking his moldy fruit cart of sewage-pop and bad acid storytelling across the American wasteland since longer than most people have had an email account. Yet over the past few years his uniquely zombified scrapheap songcraft has fermented into its ripest and most reflective forms, none more so than his latest bleach blanket odyssey, Gagged in Boonesville. The album tells the sordid tale of a huge tenement apartment building whose residents are mentally poisoned by an ancient poster of Medusa haunting the basement, not to mention the unruly pack of rabies-stricken stray dogs living in the courtyard. (Shits pretty bleak in Boonesville, clearly.) Given the backstory, its fitting that the LPs nine tracks traverse a more melancholy, meditative dimension of the Tsarlag multiverse: dumpster-scrounged fifth-generation new-wave demos ("Gagged in Boonesville," "Play This Tape Again"), homeless mutant campfire dirges ("This Waltz"), cyborg-mumbling depressive ambience ("Become Solid"), even a cockroach-covered piano ballad ("Island of Lost Souls"). Its all here, echoing down the derelict stairwells-another fascinating, unclassifiable chapter in the Neverending Story of Tsarlag. Read it or weep. Strictly limited edition of 475 copies. Includes eight-panel hand-assembled art zine of original drawings." -Not Not Fun.

Price: $7.00
"This is MARTIN HERTERICHs second pass around the NNF circuit in his SAND CIRCLES hovercraft (following 2011s Midnight Crimes EP), and though the general schematics and engine design remain the same-aged drum machines, afterhours analog tape echo, faded synth riffs, derelict metropolis atmospheres-Motor Citys grace and execution place it in a superior division to anything else hes tracked to date. A cool, loner narrative arc plays out across each side too: "Entering Motor City" across "White Sand" wherein theres a "Downtown Holdup" in the "Innercity Haze," before cruising back out of the urban sprawl, "Distant Lights" in the rearview, on through the "Endless Nights," "Descending Into Space." As with his last tape, the Sand Circles chemistry of transfusing reverb-refracted electronic horizon melodies with pulsing, primitivist warehouse-party drum machinery really succeeds in evoking this weirdly poignant bedroom/industrial reverie mood-sphere, and the 11 instrumentals of Motor City hit this interzone pressure point better than ever. Title: Violent Narcissus
Format: LP
Label: Not Not Fun
Country: USA
Price: $15.00
"Secret Abuser Jeff Witscher is an enigma wrapped in a riddle rolled in cassette tape and plugged into a battered pair of towering PA speakers. Hes lived everywhere, met everyone, and inspired legions through his lifestyle, utopian fashions (refugee chic), and spellbindingly intense music. Up from Rainbow Blanket, through to Impregnable, and across the arid plains of Roman Torment and Deep Jew, Witschers maintained a singularity of vision and total commitment to execution that has wrecked us, personally, to the point of speechlessness at least a dozen times. But, despite his restlessly shapeshifting spirit, the past year plus has seen him settling slightly deeper into his Secret Abuse sinkhole style, and heres hoping he lingers a while longer, cause its a fucking winner. Brutal, pensive, blown-out tones crossfade into tortured minor key guitar laments before being slowly subsumed in a droning ocean of choked vocals and sulking, selfish electronics. Repressed, burning, and emotional like a young man pushing away everything, Violent Narcissus is as definitive a document as has thus far yet emerged from the SA canon (and lord knows theres been a grip of gems). Look long and hard; the mirror is a bitter mistress. Black LPs, mastered by Bill Hutson, housed in jackets designed by Witscher. Edition of 445." -Not Not Fun

Title: The Labor of Love
Format: LP
Label: Not Not Fun
Country: USA
Price: $15.00
"Still waters run deep but wild waters run deeper. Both when fronting San Fran free-punk body-music trio Mi Ami or performing angst-dance psycho-dramas under his solo alias, Sex Worker, Daniel Martin-McCormick always succeeds in generating total motion (and emotion) and breaking the fourth wall. His vision of tranced/anguished rhythm questing hits an apex on The Labor Of Love, his LP debut under the Sex Worker guise, and weve been soaking in its dark arts for months. Pulsing, lo-fi kraut electronics bubble and sputter under hazy arcs of weirdo vocal smear. Escapist disco drum machines cruise into the horizon under a canopy of dubby accents and FX percussion, sometimes peaking in harsh frenzies of echo-scream meltdowns. All three pieces function as anthems or elegies or protest songs articulating Daniels heavy anti-sex trafficking/enslaved bodies activist agenda but you dont have to know the depths of the ethical framework to grasp the vibe. An intensely unique and hyper-personal statement from one of our favorite West Coast music-dreamers. Black vinyl LPs in jackets designed by the artist. Edition of 450." - Not Not Fun.

Title: Waving Goodbye
Format: LP
Label: Not Not Fun

Price: $15.00
"In a weird case of life imitating art imitating life, Daniel Martin-McCormicks sophomore Sex Worker full length, Waving Goodbye, coincidentally gets released on the very day he embarks on his transamerican relocation road trip from the Bay to Brooklyn. Waving goodbye indeed. Sad times for California, but at least his parting gift/LP is as haunting and poignant and vivid as these six dance-damaged life/love/loss anthems. A huge evolutionary pole-vault upwards from 2009s The Labor Of Love, here the SW art-pulse echo-anguish aesthetic has been refined and reborn into fresh neon-smeared street grime crooner ballads (Cool Boy, Tough Love), sprawling forlorn trancefloor fantasias (Next To You, Honeymoon Babylon), plus a killer loner-ized Corona cover. Recorded over several months in SF and mastered in Berlin, WG is clearly his peak achievement to date and weve been jamming the shit out of it. Live, he brings a bizarro entertainer/MC vibe to the proceedings so for sure go see him when hes passing through yr zip code. Black vinyl LPs in jackets designed by Mr. DMM himself. Price: $15.00
"Weve only had the good/loud fortune to witness Matthew Bower perform live on one solitary occasion, but the infinite incineration he managed to detonate out of a single electric guitar and knee-high practice amp was convincing enough to last several lives. In the meantime, theres the gallons of celestial skree he bombards the listening universe with via his cavalry of audio aliases (Skullflower, Total, Hototogisu, Sunroof!, Mirag), all of which radiates with Bowers iconic, influential, two-decades-deep quest to fuse the bruised with the blissed in a single white-light fist held up high. And although his specific mission for each project seems to have crossfaded a bit in recent years, its still huge news to us to be able offer up Taste The Blood Of The Deceiver, the first full-length Skullflower album to be pressed on vinyl since forever (at least the early 90s). Taste The Blood Of The Deceiver finds Bower in the more blackened, doom-damaged terrains like those stripmined on the recent Desire For A Holy War or Pure Imperial Reform -- abrupt vertical baths of blinding distortion and harmonic override spiked with cavernous cultish riffs and deeply bleak ritual moods. The blood is fresh, but the bodys unrecognizable. Charred and forgotten, this is another stepping stone on the path to the upturned altar. Black vinyl LPs in fucked-up-and-photocopied matte jackets. Format: 7"

Price: $6.00
"There⿿s no disputing the truth that certain formats befit certain artists. Think about it: where⿿s the logic in Tangerine Dream rocking a 3-way split 3⿝ CDR? Those fools need room to roam. Conversely, why would Orthrelm drop a 4xLP? Who needs 160 minutes of 8-second spazz songs? The medium is a message, man. And for Megan Remy⿿s brief, brave re-imaginings of guitar/voice pop rapture done under the U.S. Girls flag, the 45 RPM 7 inch single is the absolute dream medium for transporting said sounds to the interested earhole. Short and sweet (and chemical) like a sugar rush, Me + Yoko is her latest reverb-gaze drug nugget in a string of strong singles (following releases on Hardscrabble Amateurs and Cherry Burger), and it⿿s another keeper. Whistling to life with a scrap of found sound/dialogue, the song then wings into a vague, hazed-out stone-toss between 2 tired notes (a dead ringer for that famous Les Rallizes Denudes bass riff), ebbing and flowing beneath smeary streaks of white-washed vocal blur. A Top 40 single for a universe of ghosts. The B, ⿿Rise + Go,⿝ might actually be the more aching of the two, a broke-down bedroom ballad, awash in sad seas of reverb, lapping at the shores of isolated islands, gently sailing into heartbreak. Sounds lo-fi but lush, like it was recorded high on a cloud on a cheap 80s boombox. Imagine that. Black vinyl 45 RPM singles, mastered by Pete Swanson, in photocopied sleeves with art by Remy. Title: Confrontations
Format: LP
Label: Not Not Fun
Country: USA
Price: $15.00
"Kansas Citys goblin king of neo-Giallo, brood-blooded dark fantasy soundtracking returns with his fourth official full-length, two years after the badass psychodrama of Prophecy of the Black Widow. The time betwixt was well spent, on tours (Europe twice, including the Mogwai-curated All Tomorrows Parties fest), one-off tapes and 12-inches (Welcome to the Chill Zone, Final Exit, etc.), and tweaking the mixes and minutia of the seven undead invasion omens comprising Confrontations. What instantly distinguishes this new album from the previous two is its ominous, slow-burn compositional model, building its evil temple brick by brick, basking in the tension of each new chiming, Carpenter-esque synth line or monkish doom Om for multiple measures before stirring the next substance into the cauldron. This elegant sense of patience gives the tracks a more oozing, operatic aura; these confrontations arent hostile showdowns in the woods but the creeping dread of alien-nation body snatchers infiltrating the populace. Death comes slipping. Can someone hire this genius to score the They Live remake already? X-filed highway cover artwork designed by Dionysian visualist TIM GOODWILLIE." -Not Not Fun.

Title: Freeze!
Format: 7"
Label: Not Not Fun
Country: USA
Price: $8.00
"After 2 full-lengths mining vintage horror scores and Italo/Goblin-isms for inspiration, Kansas City riddler and composition whiz Umberto slow-pans his focus out of the graveyards and black widow cobwebs into the celluloid-stained artificial streets of Beverly Hills police beats and pop culture ghost-busting. Freeze! is an inscrutable but impressively legit reinvention of Jan Hammer-style 80s soundtrack cheese: soaring keyboard lines, fast-tappin piano, locked-in bass grooves, goofy canned drums, baroque purple haze soloing, etc. Put An APB On Those Bastards kicks things off with a tension-ramping Corvette cruise into the heat of the night, while Illegal Entry With Intent To Zuul is a pitch-perfect rooftop chase scene that ends with somebody falling fifty stories into a posh private pool (and is apparently also somehow about that horned dog demon that possesses Sigourney Weaver in G-Busters?). A bizarre and thoroughly enjoyable curveball from one of our fave current music-makers. Black vinyl 45s in pro-printed jackets with hilarious/hijacked Eddie Murphy artwork by Derek Goon. Edition of 500." -Not Not Fun

Title: Prophecy of a Black Widow
Format: LP
Label: Not Not Fun
Country: USA
Price: $15.00
"The one Umberto performance we had the rad fortune to bear witness to involved at least a dozen dudes, dads, and ladies all on stage wearing sunglasses at night and shredding keyboards/keytars bathed in a sea of fog machinery and strobe lights and extraterrestrially-costumed interpretive dancers. Shit was BEYOND. Umberto mastermind Matt Hill allegedly went to legit music school back in the day and used to play bass for Expo 70 (Justin/Expo released the debut Umberto tape/CDR, From The Grave, on his Sonic Meditations label) before splintering into his current electro-satanic Goblin worship guise -- and we for one cant get enough. Prophecy Of The Black Widow is his sophomore LP and though the badass evil Italo goth-synth horror-score blueprint of Grave remains, the main variation is subtle vibe-shift from 70s Argento/Carpenter-isms into more early/mid-80s new wave creep-scapes. Theres still plenty of eerie nightmare keyboard riffs and vintage witch-disco breakouts but the synths squelch with more of a neon retrofuturist bent and theres even one brazenly feel good soaring-into-the-sunset closing credits anthem (the literally-titled Everything Is Going To Be Okay). Whatever prophecy Prophecy is foretelling, were on board. Black vinyl LPs in jackets with sick fake-3D lettering and art by Seth Johnson." -Not Not Fun

Title: Temple Room
Format: 12"
Label: Not Not Fun
Country: USA
Price: $15.00
"Upon relocating from the Midwest to Los Angeles last year, MATT HILL discovered a number of his original audio folders were deleted or corrupted beyond repair. In preparation for a string of performances, he holed up and tried to recreate some of these lost compositions, strip-mining his memory for clues and notation. This revisitation process had a particularly transformative effect on the seething lead cut from 2010s Prophecy of the Black Widow, elongating its curvature into even more elegantly paranoid shapes, riding the beat through wider corridors of spider webs and blood-red light. "Temple Room (Extended Version)" functions like a directors cut: expansive, indulgent, and attuned to a deeper strain of the nightmare. Catch Umberto on tour this spring in half the Western world. Edition of 427 LPs." -Not Not Fun.

"Every family has a freak (or two). Every decks got a wild card. Weve got VIBES. Ante up. NNFs loosest cannons return to the recording fray with, Psychic, a blown-out briar patch of basement garage fantasy masquerading as obscurist protest funk-and the bands first vinyl statement. Recorded in Eagle Rock on a last legs-style 4-track, the EPs four songs are jacked deep in the red, with fuzz bass, wah shrapnel, vocal sloganeering, and drum racket all fighting for tape room. Competition is fierce. Recent live faves like Dead Horses and Night Court appear in particularly revved-up form, as do the first two Vibes songs ever written, Psychic and Prisms Of Fame. All bases are covered. All soul trains are derailed. Here comes the judge. Black vinyl 33 RPM singles in full-color fold-over sleeves with collage artwork and lettering by CAMERON STALLONES, photographs by CAITLIN C. MITHCELL, plus a rant-y revolution scrapbook insert. Title: Shadowrock Destroyer
Format: Cass
Label: Not Not Fun
Country: USA
Price: $8.00
"You can live in LA/Southern Cali for 40 years and still not traverse all the fucked up fringe boroughs and forgotten neighborhoods sprawling outwards in every direction, no matter how hard you hit the highways. And as long as weve been rooted out here, weve only had reason to venture into the sun-dead desert no mans land of Beaumont on one occasion, but the place speaks volumes about the weird water which hometown garbage-folk-chaos ensemble Wagon Tongues have clearly been drinkin their whole life. A creepy meeting ground of olde-tymey Wild West relics and trashy meth-dealing truckstop culture, its an ideal breeding ground for drifters, criminals, and creative youth with singular visions. Which is pretty much the name of the game on Shadowrock Destroyer, the Tongues most recent EP of deranged collective chemistry. The A, ??Fire In The Hole,? is a raw free ritual of stomping drums, loops, teen screams, guitar noise, and pots and pans, conducted in a crappy basement with cavernous reverb and black mold on the walls. Confusion is king. The B rises up in a similar cloud of clatter but swings with a folkier gait, sunlight brain-fry chords, dusty horns, and possessed babble bubbling over into an ecstatic tumbleweed hayride into the sunset. Squint yr eyes, raise your hand, seek the shadows. Pro-dubbed yellow cassettes with hand-brushed tape labels in cases with hand-numbered full-color masked band photo cover artwork, and wrapped with a hand-cut patch of brown picnic cloth stickering. Title: Dream
Format: LP
Label: Not Not Fun
Country: UK
Price: $17.00
"When Iowa City freak-out free-rockers Raccoo-oo-oon called it quits last year it left a bummer scar in the Midwest underground scene. But time is a great healer, and so are new bands. So out of the ashes of the RAC pack comes Wet Hair, a synth-punk-trance duo composed of keyboardist/vocalizer Shawn Reed and keyboardist/drummer Ryan Garbes, and Dream is the bands debut vinyl full-length after a series of increasingly shredding limited-edition cassettes on their own Night People label. Piling together an unlikely trash heap of Suicide-style drum machine beat-bops, zone-droned Krautrock keys, and fucked up outsider crooning, the LPs four tracks careen across a spectrum of moods and mangled melodies. Recorded at Flat Black Studios by Luke Tweedy and mastered by Pete Swanson, Wet Hairs cult electric annihilation has never gleamed with such razor-edged weirdness; this is their dream made real. Black vinyl LPs in jackets with artwork by Reed and Garbes, plus a pro-printed full-color 11x11 insert." -Not Not Fun

Title: Glass Fountain
Format: LP
Label: Not Not Fun
Country: USA
Price: $17.00
"Welcome back. One of NNFs total favorite active bands return with a second full-length (most of which was recorded during the same sessions that birthed their debut LP, Dream) and we are pleased as spiked fruit punch. The Reed/Garbes duo mainly sticks to their guns, mining the same post-Suicide art-trance vein they perfected on Dream, but with Glass Fountain theres an added emphasis on the disembodied, oscillator pop mode that Wet Hair often toy with. Fountains five tracks include some of the bands simplest but catchiest songs (Crucifix In The Waves, When The Right Time Comes, etc), mesmerizing organ melodies over plink-plonky vintage drum machines with weirdo soulful singing and outer space electronics, like an outsider-punk Silver Apples or something. Hard to say exactly what universe Wet Hair are operating in and thats probably part of why we love it so much. A killer record that gets better each spin. In jackets with art drawn and designed by the band, plus a pro-printed 11x11 insert." - Not Not Fun. On opaque lavender-colored vinyl.

"The debut full-length by NATALIE MERING, a young itinerant whos spent time in Portland jamming in JACKIE-O MOTHERFUCKER, traveling abroad alongside Zxolotl, played basement art-rock with a single drummer in Philly, and now resides in Baltimore, where she crafts sprawling, strange, haunted songs with darkly beautiful mourning vocals a la Nico or private press drug-folk sides, sprinkled with odd clanking sounds and creepy FX. The whole record was recorded and mixed by GRAHAM LAMKIN (The Shadow Ring) and has some of his meticulous sound-art thumbprint. Title: S/T
Format: LP
Label: Not Not Fun
Country: USA
Price: $15.00
"WHITE POPPY, the "experimental therapeutic pop" project from British Columbian inner-peacenik CRYSTAL DORVAL, has been evolving fresh forms for a couple years now. Last winter, packing a satchel full of four-track tapes, she ventured out from her bedroom haven and boarded a boat across the Strait of Georgia to the town of Ladysmith, on Vancouver Island, to The Noise Floor Recording Studio, to mastermind and mix the ten deluxe, delirious dream-gaze gems comprising her self-titled full-length debut. Fusing the warm, washed tonalities of her earliest cassette-blurred lotus meditations with a richer range of glittering guitar gestures, sky-way keyboard cascades and neon-violet vocal refractions, White Poppy captures the catchy, dizzy fuzz and textured, opiated heights of Dorvals deceptively vulnerable songcraft. The see-sawing balance of faded, forlorn freefalling ("Emotional Intelligence," "Existential Angst") with buoyant, blissed independence-pop ("Wear Me Away," "Without Answers") conjures a real rainbow mood ring three-dimensionality, a kaleidoscope of intimate drifter soul. True-gaze for a newer age. Strictly limited to 470 copies." -Not Not Fun.
