Artist: AXOLOTL
Title: Axolotl
Format: CD
Label: Psych-o-Path
Country: USA
Price: $16.00
"After several years in New York collaborating on and off with various members of the noise underground (Sightings, Mouthus, Black Dice, Double Leopards etc.), Karl Bauer (Violin, voice, electronics, percussion) moved to San Francisco and began Axolotl, soon recruiting William Sabiston(percussion, electronics, drums) and Brian Tester(guitar, electronics) to expand their dense psychedelia. The self-titled debut album (Psych-O-Path 2004) conjures comparisons to the dream syndicate era work of John Cale, Japenese psychedelia from Magical Power Mako to Taj Mahal Travelers, the tactile electronic blankets of the Mego label and the layered drones of Phil Niblock. Axolotl meld acoustic instrumentation and electronic processing, harsh blasts and soothing drones, free jazz clatter and teutonic pulse. The summer of 2004 will see Axolotl play shows with Black Dice and Animal Collective, Tussle, and Thuja." - Psych-o-Path.

Artist: AXOLOTL
Title: Way Blank
Format: CD
Label: Psych-o-Path
Country: USA
Price: $16.00
"All the forces of nature are alive and breathing again in Axolotls second release from Psych-O-Path Records. In, Way Blank, Karl Bauer recreates and builds on the organic and meditative sonic themes he and William Sabiston introduced on their self-titled debut album (Psych-o-Path 2004). Through arrangements and tones drawn from 60s minimalism, post-techno ambient electronics, Asian and African field recordings and Japanese psychedelia, and drawing from the cut and paste sensibility of the Sun City Girls Way Blank manifests itself as a journey of the human body and experienced by the human body. In the beginning of 2002 Karl Bauer, a classically trained violinist, created Axolotl (pronounced Ax-oh-lot-el) in San Francisco naming his band after a word derived from the Aztec Nahuatl language. An Axolotl is an aquatic salamander indigenous to Mexico and also refers to the Aztec god of death Xolotl. Bauer not only draws from eclectic musical inspiration but also is inspired by pre- Columbian Mesoamerica civilians, and the future apocalypse. Through collaged clusters of sound Way Blank communicates the cyclical nature of time prevalent in the Mayan, Incan and Aztec belief systems that will potentially determine the fall of contemporary Western Civilization. The album differs from their self- titled debut in that a narrative arises from within the pervasive environmental and bodily atmosphere created through drones and static fields of sounds that has come to characterize Axolotls music. In Uroboros, Bauer insinuates the beating of a heart enveloped by distorted electronics that create a post-apocalyptic landscape. The repeating beats and drawn out drones suggest a battle between the living and the dead in the backdrop of an environment devoid of organic life forms. The final track, There are Sometimes Miracles, composed of a complex layering of soft strings, lulling feedback, trancey vocals, and high pitched electronics, whisks the listener into a meditative sound field where one may ponder the cyclical nature of the universe and the power of destruction and death. Bauer was recently quoted in an interview for Dusted Magazine saying, we want to feel the sound in our guts. We want to make huge gorgeous drones. We do not want to hurt people, but we do want them to feel this expanse of sound. In their second Physc-o-Path release, Way Blank, Bauer succeeds in his sonic endeavor. Bauer just finished a month long European tour and in the future will continue to collaborate with the Skaters, a San Francisco based collective, and Brooklyn bands Mouthus and Double Leopards." - Psych-O-Path.

Artist: DEACON, DAN
Title: Acorn Master
Format: CD EP
Label: Psych-o-Path
Country: USA
Price: $8.00
"Dan Deacon, an electro-acoustic composer/performer living in Baltimore, is part of the Wham City art collective. The compositional style that best describes Dan Deacons music is Future Shock, a new genre being used to describe a number of the bands emerging from Baltimores growing underground music scene. Musically influenced by Devo, Talking Heads, Scratch Orchestra, People Like Us, Raymond Scott and Conlon Nancarrow, Dans music strives to take contemporary experimental composition and electronic music out of the circle of the esoteric intellectual gangs and hipster communities, placing it into the more informal "fun time." His high-energy performances consist of song-structured material performed with Casio keyboard, computer, vocoder and other devices to process his voice, signal generator, etc. Since May of 2004 Dan has been touring almost nonstop throughout the United States. He has performed with Lightning Bolt, Adult., Cat Power, Matmos, Tracy & the Plastics, Video Hippos, Japanther, MF Doom, The Unicorns, Smog, USAisaMONSTER, Arab On Radar, Rainer Maria, Daniel Carter, The Microphones, Lesbians On Ecstasy, Dead Meadow, Kool Keith, OCDJ, Ghengis Tron, Calvin Johnston, Danielson Family, GZA, Bonny Prince Billy, Diplo, Sightings, People Like Us, Blue Oyster Cult, Rasputina, Wolf Eyes, and many others. The Baltimore City Paper named him Best Solo Artist of Baltimore for 2005. Dan has performed live on several radio and televison stations, including three performances WMFU and an interview and performance on NBC news. Acorn Master EP consists of 5 original compositions, 2 of which are instrumental, and a cover of Splish Splash by Bobby Darrin. Psych-O-Path Records will be releasing Spiderman of the Rings full length in Fall 2006." - Psych-O-Path.

Artist: JANE
Title: Coconuts
Format: CD
Label: Psych-o-Path
Country: USA
Price: $12.00
"Coconuts" is a second official release by Jane, the duo made up of Noah Lennox (aka Panda Bear of Animal Collective) and DJ Scott Mou (aka Queens). "Berserker", the preceding Jane release, was put out by Paw Tracks in the spring of 2005. Recorded in 2002, "Coconuts" introduces the sound of the duos early days the title track was made during Janes first meeting. It was originally self-released as a limited edition CD-R. Psych o Path is proud to see this work through its first official release. A musical union that spawned from a mutual love of dance music has evolved into a sonic manifestation of a collective unconscious, one that eludes all conventional perceptions regarding what can be accomplished compositionally through the use of a turntable, mixer, keyboard and effects. Lennox and Mou relish in the freedom of home recording, calling upon the cooperation of the viscera and cerebrum in the listener, with two psychedelic jams. Through repetition and transcendence, these pieces form an erratic tide, straddling cohesion and sprawling, intently refusing to choose between the two. On "Coconuts," Mou and Lennox serve to challenge preconceived notions involving the constituents of psychedelic music. The overwhelming presence of sweat-drenched stringed instrumentation is noticeably absent. In its place is percussion that is both pulsating and skeletal (achieved through Mous masterful manipulation of the turntable), awash with keyboards and effects, joined by Lennoxs mournful, amorphous vocals. The link between these musical mediums and the realm of psychedelia is indulgence. The abscesses of the Id are gracefully confronted and pondered. The ego, and its desire for instant gratification, has been swept up in this ocean of sound. Trusting is with its weight, it chooses not to swim against the tide, but float with it, and allow itself to be carried where this acoustic sea considers fit. This edition of "Coconuts" stays true to the artwork found in the original release. The CD is packaged in a square 7" hand-pressed by Jon "Jonas" Asher, of a beautiful drawing by Mou. Rusty Santos of UUAR (whose past projects include Animal Collective) and Edik Kleyner of Jesus with Me were responsible for the re-mastering." - Psych-o-Path.

Format: CD

"Sometime in late 1990s four Russians met in NYC and began to jam together. They wanted to reach to the Higher Spirit, so they called their band Jesus With Me. Jesus With Me played heavy psychedelic freakout rock, influenced by Amon Duul I, Faust, Can, High Rise, Keiji Haino and YaHoWha 13." - Psych-o-Path.

Artist: SIGHTINGS
Title: Michigan Haters
Format: CD
Label: Psych-o-Path
Country: USA
Price: $12.00
"Rock is about danger, people. Sightings live shows sure as hell arent background music for a thrift-store fashion show. They bring the pain but good. Sightings second LP, Michigan Haters captures the sonic abandon that makes their performances such a liberating mindfuck. This Brooklyn by way of Motown trio pounds out an abrasive skronk that at first comes off as a pure denial. The primitivist, lurching rhythms, shuddery basslines and trebly guitar slashes seem conceived to prove that Sightings is more punk than you, and youre just not meant to understand. But then, wait a second. Youve been bruised, defeated, and suddenly youre floating in a river of psychedelic scree. Mark M. is yelping out some Lord of the Flies incantations. You cant pogo to it, but you can twitch all night. The violence of Michigan Haters flows in all directions; it destroys itself and the listener to reveal hidden conduits of sound, from the rubberized rumble of "Chili Dog" to the more bleached and angular "Guilty of Wrecking". Its a soundtrack for punching holes in walls and watching them bleed vital fluids. Sightings plays noise that hasnt been defused by aesthetic noodling; theyre not Sonic Youth and they dont want to be. Think DNA, Big Black, Keiji Haino if you have to think at all. Play it loud and watch the neighbors run for cover." - Psycho-o-Path. Remastered repress.

Artist: TERRESTRIAL TONES
Title: Blasted
Format: LP
Label: Psych-o-Path
Country: USA
Price: $15.00
"Terrestrial Tones is the home recorded project of roommates Dave Portner (Avey Tare of Animal Collective) and Eric Copeland of Black Dice, published by an emerging label in the underground noise scene, Psych-o-Path records. Blasted, their debut record combines a creepy parade of burlesque musicalia with the underwater travels of a submarine 20,000 leagues under the sea. Deep almost unrecognizable vocals hidden in layers of sub-bass warbles are reminiscent of work on the Charhizma Label, particularly Christof Kurzmann and his collaborations with Dafeldecker and dieb13. Likewise there are nods to the diverse almost pop-twitch of Dat Politics and the polyrhythmic patterns of the Basic Channel/Chain Reaction projects. It??s a dance music record (microtonal future extremely abstract dance) for people who like to wiggle to shoes tumbling in washing machines with monkey cymbals and puppet shows. It is serious yet unpretentious, even whimsical, and will appeal to fans of experimental electronics, IDM, Throbbing Gristle and related, the drones and squeals of Black Dice and the nouveau pop psychedelia of Animal Collective." - Psych-o-Path. 2004 release.
