Artist: A FRAMES
Title: 2
Format: LP
Label: S-S
Country: USA
Price: $26.00
"The A Frames second album -- appropriately titled 2 -- is the classic followup to their stellar debut. Influenced by their heroes Wire, the A Frames were not content to make their sophomore full-length a copycat of their first. Instead, they took their post-punk-cum-KBD / garage sound and expanded and twisted it. Recorded in a weekend by Chris Woodhouse, it is one of the best albums of the 00s. Finally, someone has released a worthy followup to Gang of 4s Entertainment, wrote Go Metric. Blank Generation countered with You can throw all the Gang of Four / Fall / Wire references you want at this band, but all I can say is that the A Frames are quite simply creating some of the most captivating sounds around. Their second fulllength is even weirder than the first, adhering to the robot-wave construction of their first record, but tinkering with the formula enough to keep it sounding new.... These guys have put themselves yet another step or two ahead of the crowd with a record that may even be better than their first. Maximum Rocknroll said, this sucker is flat-out classic... [Woodhouse] is starting to look like the Trademark of Quality for raw artgarage. Roctober cooed, Though it seems impossible for robots to have souls this is basically the lost, brilliant, organic Kraftwerk LP (where they added guitars). This is so futuristic it makes my vision hurt. The original 2003 vinyl pressing of 2 sold out in three months. S-S Records let it go out of print, but, like with the first album, the label has often been asked the question Are you ever going to release it again? The answer is: Yes!"" - S-S.

Artist: A FRAMES
Title: s/t
Format: LP
Label: S-S
Country: USA
Price: $26.00
"Originally released in 2002, the A Frames debut album was a sleeper. That is hard to believe today, as the record has been called one of the few great new American rock records (Byron Coley and Thurston Moore, Arthur), the best American rock record Ive heard since 100 Flowers (Jon Solomon, WPRB), and a truly amazing record made by a truly amazing band with a truly amazing sound (Mitch Cardwell, Blank Generation). But back when it came out, people were slow to pick up on it. In 2002, S-S Records was still a young un, Seattle was recovering from a decade of grunge-commercialism, and punk rock had settled into a steady 1-2-3-4 count. The A Frames post-post-post punk, with its high energy angles and primitive smarts, was a bit new to the ears. A few people dug their first two singles, but most folks werent quite ready for a garage punk attack on Wire, Devo and Joy Division... or so they thought. As more and more people heard the A Frames debut, more and more became diehard fans. The record started to get rave reviews and make year-end Best Of lists. Those skeptical of the hype listened to the record and found that the praise was well-founded (Its rare to have an album this solid from top and bottom without an ounce of fluff or duff -- it is deserving of any accolades heaped upon it, Jack Cole, Pataphysics Research Journal). Even with universal props, it took more than a year to sell out of the single vinyl pressing of 500. In another two years, though, the record started fetching good money on auction and record selling sites. It has now been thirteen years since A Frames A Frames was first released and demand has not slackened. Though long out-of-print, S-S Records still gets requests from fans to repress it. So here it is!" - S-S.

Artist: ALBRIGHT, CHARLES
Title: Im On Drugs
Format: 7"
Label: S-S
Country: USA
Price: $5.50
"This is the official S.S. repressing of the Charles Albright 7" that came and went earlier this year. We flipped over it and sold most of the 100 copies Charles pressed up for himself and when it was gone, asked the man if we could repress it. He said yes and here ya go. In case you dont know: Charles Albright has been a fixture in Sacramentos underground punk scene for over a decade. Chances are the only band of Charles that youve heard is the Pizzas, but he has been in a ton of them. This here is the first solo record hes ever done and it is a killer. No bullshit psych punk that still lurks in the garage and has great over-blown guitar that sounds like young Charles has soaked up plenty Leigh Stephens and Greg Ginn, which he has. Three songs long, one sided. This repress is only 400 and with a different sleeve than the first." -S-S

Artist: ANTENNAS ERUPT!
Title: Magical Energy
Format: LP
Label: S-S
Country: USA
Price: $12.00
"A brilliant band who were too damn good to stay together. But though they had a short time on this earth they turned out one gem right here. When they played they had every record geek in town standing drop jawed at the fact that something this good and this not-normal would be happening. they broke up once but got back together when their fans BEGGED them to! Structured free jazz in the mode of Threadgill, Lake, & Ayler mixed with the out rock of Captain Beefhearts Magic Band. Recently given a favorable review in The Wire. Fans of the Geeks or Tragic Mulato will enjoy. White vinyl in a great Troy Mighty drawn tri-fold sleeve. No cd issue, vinyl only. A sample from Rinpoche. A bit of Healthy Vaginal Walls." - S-S.

Artist: BANQUE ALLEMANDE
Title: Eins, Zwei
Format: LP
Label: S-S
Country: USA
Price: $16.00
"While Berlin. Germany isnt exactly nowhere, the amount of attention garnered by BANQUE ALLEMANDE since their inception in 2005 they might as well be from Quedlinberg. When I stumbled on them and was blown away by their songs, I started to wonder What the fuck is wrong with you people? Actually nothing: Banque Allemande (also known as dbZwoVier) have spent the last 5 years avoiding Berlins rock scene, chosing to play subway cars, a hamburger grill, and the like. They recorded a couple albums worth of fantastic songs, but never spread them around. What was posted on myspace got lost in the flood of bands there. They lurk in the shadows no longer. Banque Allemande has a relentlessness that reminds me of the Gordons and Rema Rema, the thuggish charm of Feedtime, and some 1-2-3-4 yucks of i dunno, name some late 70s euro punk outfit-but thats me hearing them. Their background is in the bands DISCOUNTER, TRUMPF AS, and MOSER INDIAN. Their ears are attuned to the hammering beats of Boys Noize. Or as they describe their sound: minimalistic, cut-down songstructures-yes please. rough sounds, straight beats-yes please. if what comes out is called punk-whatthefuck. Edition of 500 copies." -S-S

Artist: BANQUE ALLEMANDE
Title: Willst du Chinese sein musst du die ekligen Sachen essen
Format: LP
Label: S-S
Country: USA
Price: $16.00
"A couple years ago, this fine label released the debut album by a mysterious Berlin band called Banque Allemande. Trapped in a city more known for dance music than two chord rock n roll, Banque Allemandes live shows were restricted to a few underground spaces and Berlins subway system. They recorded for themselves but outside of a small circle of friends they were unknowns. Well, now comes album number two, Willst du Chinese sein musst du die ekligen Sachen essen. Like their first, Willst du Chinese mixes marathon riffage with shorter blasts, centering on a two chord fung set to a galloping beat; a sound that brings to mind the Gordons, early Leather Nun, and even Big Black. However, it sounds like our German pals have been listening to a little Velvet Underground too. Like Eddy Current Suppression Ring, Banque Allemande take VUs pop rock side and punk it up a bit. Oh, the Banques also spare a moment or two for getting heavy. This one is a little more diverse than their first album but fans will be pleased, and those new to the band will be searching for the debut. Limited to 400 copies." - S-S.

Artist: BILLY BAO
Title: Fuck Separation
Format: 10"
Label: S-S
Country: USA
Price: $13.00
"Dont tell the INS, but Billy Bao is here. These internationalists destroy all boarders with the grinding bludgeon of pummeling sound. Two lonnnnnnggggg songs churn relentless riffs into wretched pounding and go back. Sub-metal, dirt dirge primitivism that attacks the shit nation state. For one from Billy Baos last one check out Bilbos Incinerator Embrace the degeneration of rock & roll! Fans of Brainbombs, Stickmen with Rayguns, Pissed Jeans, Drunk with Guns, etc. take note. Artist: CHEVEU
Title: Cheveu
Format: LP
Label: S-S
Country: USA
Price: $14.00
"A couple years ago, S-S had the pleasure of turning the record freak world onto CHEVEU with their Dog 7-inch, followed by the Tete de Bebe comp LP. The label also helped dement the world by distroing their next two singles and putting out their split 7-inch with Tyvek. And now they are very very very happy to present this Parisian trios debut album, simply titled Cheveu. This dad is chock full of these Frenchmens unique take on punk rock & electro, kind of like a bastard mating of Trio, Stockhausen, and King Coleman-or at least that challenging. But Cheveu dont lose the song in their experimentation. You can even dance to these numbers. Limited edition pressing of 600 copies with silkscreened sleeves."-S-S Records

Artist: CHINESE RESTAURANTS
Title: Summer Romance
Format: 7"
Label: S-S
Country: USA
Price: $7.00
"If this summers insane heat waves hasnt warped you, CHINESE RESTAURANTS "feel good hit of the summer" will. When we last met the Restaurants they were hand in hand with sonic dadaist Mattin, debuting their "River of Shit" EP on the S.S. label. Now with the same irreverence but moving the music a bit left field, they turn out two unique slices of summer bread. On the surface you wouldnt hear "Summer Romance" as a pop song, but let the needle ride and you will hear hooks galore, a tune that references sumemr classics by Television, ? and the Mysterians, Joy Division, Mungo Jerry, David Dundas, and others. The flip is a stirring rendition of the Mexican classic "Nunca Jamas", a strum happy dirge that brings to mind The Ex and their take on folk songs from the Spanish Civil War. The Chinese Restaurants are from New York City and are helmed by LF RESTAURANT (aka ACULPULCO RODRIGUEZ) and KEITH RESTAURANT (nee REDGERSON) with assistance by BUNNYBRAIN MALCOLM TENT, KEMP BOYD and others. This is their second 7-inch. Edition of 300 copies." -S-S

Artist: CIGARETTES
Title: Gimme Cigarettes
Format: 7"
Label: S-S
Country: USA
Price: $5.00
"Long rumored to be a Sparks side project, Cigarettes were not Sparks but an obscure Los Angeles art punk band featuring Pipe, Lonny Carlysle, Marc Question, and Bat Lucky. Behind those nom de musique were one John Clancy, keeper of the Cigarettes flame, and Philo Cramer, who left the band to join something called Fear. For years, Sparks fans thought the Cigarettes were their art/glam heroes but they were wrong. Not wrong to think so, as if you imagined what Sparks would sound like if they had gone punk, this might be it. And I write that with all due respect to the Cigarettes, for what these guys did was not only let Sparks influence their sound, but their attitude. Thus they take things a few steps beyond the influence and create something unique. That something are two songs that both attack and make you laugh. I found my first copy of their single at a store for a buck. It was beat up but played fine and upon dropping needle on Gimme Cigarettes, I felt pure glee. A wave of silly excitement poured over me. I played it on my radio show a few times and got an email from John Clancy saying, "Hey, you played my old band on the radio!" He sent me a nice copy of the record and I convinced him to let me reissue it. So for the first time, here is a legitimate reissue of the Cigarettes fantastic 1978 Carlysle/Moxie single, with the unfortunately neglected Oh! Oh! Oh! and liner notes on the bands history. S-S fans will enjoy this one. 500 pressed and  moving fast. Some of Gimme Cigarette. A bit of Oh! Oh! Oh!  " - S-S.

Artist: DUCHESS OF SAIGON
Title: s/t
Format: LP
Label: S-S
Country: USA
Price: $15.00
"Formed in 2001, the Duchess of Saigon were Mary and Richard. Two artists, they met at UC Davis, started seeing each other and then formed a band. Though Richard had been in a handful of Sacramento bands (Rick & the Young Rogues, Sir & the Young Men), Duchess was Marys first band. She was handed the drum duties...and good thing, too! Because she was unencumbered by formal lessons, Mary developed a unique drumming style in which she would keep the beat with her feet and play the melody with her hands. The unconventional approach to percussion, as well as her ethereal backing vocals, gave Richards VU-influenced garage-pop songs an excellent twist. Byron Coley of The Wire likened them to the Carpenters if played by the Shaggs. The first time I saw Duchess of Saigon, they were horrible. Just a goddamn mess of a band. However, the second time, six months later, they convinced me they were the best band in town and I hurriedly asked them if I could put out a record. That record is Easter Queen. We pressed 300, it  finally went out of print. Another Sacramento label, Plastic Idol, put out their second seven inch. It is as good as the first. The Duchess were working on an album, but recording and equipment problems kept dragging the project on. Mary, frustrated with her drumming, lost interest and quit. About a year later, both Mary and Richard picked up and moved to Florida and then to Detroit.  Fall of 2010, I was going through the S.S. archives and came upon a tape from the 2005 abandoned album sessions. Wow! Time has been very, very good to the Duchess of Saigon! I bumped into Richard when he was visiting Sacramento and proposed to put out a limited pressing of unreleased Duchess songs. He said, "Go for it!" and here it is! This limited edition contains 16 songs culled from sessions recorded by Chris Woodhouse from 2002 to 2005, every one of them as good as anything on the Duchess of Saigons two aforementioned EPs. Sleeve designed and screened by S.S. 300 pressed. "-S.S.

Artist: EL-G
Title: Tout Ploie
Format: LP
Label: S-S
Country: USA
Price: $15.00
"So...a couple years back, one of my favorite French labels -- Le Villain Chien -- released a single by a guy going by the name of él-g. I picked up a few -- record unheard - for our mail order and when they arrived, gave one a spin. The sound was a combination of world-weary French pop and mellow psych. The record lived on the turntable for a few weeks. When the Belgian label Kraak announced it was putting out an él-g album, I said sign me up for some. I got a very small handful and offered them for sale. Of course, one found its way to the record player and what came out of the speakers was one of the best records Id heard in quite a while. Like the 7" I previously dug, this album strode through French pop styles and dreamy psychedelia, but this thing was much better than the seven inch. It had a classic sound. I wasnt alone in liking it. David Keenan of Volcanic Tongue called it Ass-flatteningly great and said it combines the decadent French ballad style of Serge Gainsbourg with warped acid folk settings, industrial electronics and the kinda schizophrenic approach to genre that defines much of Thierry Muller and Philippe Dorays work. Clive Bell at the Wire said él-gsfreak flag is exhilarating. And the few people who got the record from me, wrote and asked for more. After spin number 50, I said to myself, Damn, theres a whole lotta people on this side of the Atlantic that are gonna miss out on this demon, one of the best records of the last five years, me thinks. So I wrote él-g and Kraak and asked if I could do an American pressing and they said Sure good thing and here it is. So what you get is all the above -- with guest performances by the lovely Charlene Darling and Ignatz and Phil Todd of Ashtray Navigations. This edition on S.S. Records was remastered excellently by Paul Gold of Salt Mastering and has a slightly different cover and insert. And it is available at a domestic price." - S-S.

Artist: FEEDTIME
Title: Today Is Friday
Format: LP
Label: S-S
Country: USA
Price: $18.00
"Formed in 1984, feedtime, the legendary Australian band, created a rumble that has carried over the decades like a subterranean fault rupture; a persis¬tent, threatening tectonic shift that has swallowed anyone lucky enough to encounter one of their records. feedtime started out as a WTF project that suddenly coalesced into something quite unlike anything else going: a pounding rhythm section with a hoarse vocalist that swam against the fast-faster-fastest hardcore tides of the time to create a time¬less rock n roll sound that is equal parts psych pound, punk holler, gutter blues, and post-punk noisescape, without ever sacrificing the song to the concept. Neat trick that. Their initial period of intense activity was the mid-80s to the mid-90s. They released a series of records on the Aberrant (OZ), Rough Trade (UK/US), and Amphetamine Rep¬tile (USA) labels. So, in 2011, when S.S. Records was working on bringing feedtime to the US in order to play our tenth anniversary showcase, SS10 (where they ruled), I asked Bruce Aberrant if there was any archival stuff laying around. Bruce snorted a Yes and said that there were reels of it, but none of it had been accessed for years. Over the next six months Bruce went through hours of feedtime sessions, demos, and live tapes, transferring the keepers for S.S. to hear. We culled through dozens of songs ? outtakes from feedtimes great debut album and their even greater follow-up, shov¬el. We also put our ears on demos from the Billy era, as well as live stuff recorded in both a hotel and a hole in the ground. We came across songs that had never seen release in any form (e b g d, garbage scow, girlfriend, etc.), amazing outtakes of old favorites (shovel, fractured, possums, nice, etc), and cover versions that no one out¬side Bruce and the band had heard (Fears I Dont Care About You, Flippers Life). The result is Today is Friday, a 15-song LP, with all previously unreleased recordings. feedtime is a fantastic Australian rock monster as compelling and insistent as the best of their class: Coloured Balls, Venom P. Stinger, Buffalo, Scientists, Saints, Primitive Calculators, Slugfuckers, etc. No hype: feedtime is truly a classic Australian rock & roll band and Today is Friday shows that as clearly as any of their classic albums do." - S-S.

Artist: FOTTUTISSMA PELICCERIA ELSA
Title: S/T
Format: LP
Label: S-S
Country: USA
Price: $16.00
"FOTTUTISSMA PELICCERIA ELSA were a short-lived Italian hardcore band from the city of Gorizia. I was tipped to them by a 1983 review in Maximum Rocknroll which compared them to the MEAT PUPPETS met M.D.C. in a Chilean secret police torture chamber. I wrote on Crud Crud Fast bursts of rage segue into sludge and then into total confusion. It is like the Italian hardcore version of Tampaxs "UFO Dictator" over a full LP, but it makes sense. WFMUs Fatty Jubbo once described it as wow...stumbles along like a drunken horse with its feet cut off. sorta reminds of Destroy NYC or Upside Down Cross. The music comes from their one and only demo tape released in 1983, a rarity itself. Transferred from tape, not MP3. Mastered to vinyl by JOHN GOLDEN. Includes insert with original demo tape art work. This is a vinyl only release. There is no CD or digital download." -S-S.

Title: Too Fat Pig / Visiting Day At San Quentin
Format: 7"
Label: S-S
Country: USA
Price: $5.00
"The Geeks were a collection of Mendocino/San Francisco freaks that bridge the gaps between psych, free jazz and art punk from 1965 to 1981. They released 2 records when they were around, both pretty damn rare. We stumbled on them, tracked them down, and got a 7⿝s worth of archival stuff, which we made into SS005 in 2004. After that came out head Geek Radley H. sent us another collection of unreleased stuff and after a year or two of shock, we wiped the glaze from our eyes and got this pup together. These cuts were recorded in 1979 & 1980 and both have a seemingly subdued intensity to them. Too Fat Pig, sung by 15 year old Lydia Kindheart, sounds like the Inflatable Boy Clams done by some revolutionary free jazz ensemble. For many years the Geeks lived in a house across the way from San Quentin State Prison and would watch relatives line up to visit their imprisoned family members, hence Visiting Day at San Quentin, one of the angriest, creepiest, most intense songs Ive ever heard. We are really proud to present another Geeks record and will be happy when we do another. 450 pressed." - S-S.

Price: $19.00
"The small towns of Californias northern Central Valley have an eerie loneliness to them. Cinematically, take Two-Lane Blacktop and fuse it with Neil Youngs Human Highway. Fix that into music and youd get something like Ghostwriter. Odd rock & roll from Orland, California, the home of the dearly departed Nothing People (and theater organ legend George Wright), Ghostwriter lurks in the dust-caked shadows of rusted old cars and obsolete, solid state, electronic instruments. The Chrome-meets-psych sounds of the Nothing People is there, with some haunted rockabilly à la Alan Vega, Residents-like wooziness, and something that conjures the words paranoid closet. These outsider/loner rock sounds will be listened to for years to come." - S-S.

I went there one other time around 85 or so & it had moved. Still had some killer stuff, like this one 7" I got from an Italian band, Rivolta Dell Odio, that had the most amazing post industrial, creeped out Goth thing goin on. Just totally fried shit & I aint never heard anything likeem before or since. Till now. These guys nailed it. And theyre Italian too? This is like the 2nd coming of the Il Cuore Della Bestia ep! Amazing. Where does the S-S Records guy find this stuff? Hey, more power to him. He aint shit the bed once this year. His Electro Blue Voice huh? "Man o man, is this what it is like to give birth? The puppy was conceived last year and, through much pain and language snafus, it is finally being birthed. So what does this little monster sound like? Ahhhh lets go back in time to 1983 and a place called Europe where tons of DIY bands were releasing their take on gloomsters like Joy Division, Crisis, and the Cure. The sounds were a bit more primitive than that Holy Trinity, and also rawer and wilder. Fast forward to now and that sound is currently being tapped into by Frustration and now HIS ELECTRO BLUE VOICE, a mysterious trio from Lake Como, Italy. Much more emotive than their Paris cohorts, fronted by a semi-unhinged, charmingly incoherent vocalist, HEBV teeters on the edge and twists into odd deconstruction of their songs. " The Algoma Chamber of Commerce says, Algomas current population is approximately 3400. Visitors to Algoma are amazed by the diversity of the options offered to them. What we have here is the most diverse option that little corner of Wisconsin has to offer: Hue Blancs Joyless Ones. The four guys who make up the Ones have a wretchedly fine angle on rock & roll that constantly spellbind the folks at the Captains Mistress. Whose dat sound like they ask. The same question comes up when the fellas take the stage at Shanty Days. But editor Lee Lawrenz of the Kewaunee County News knows whats up. He writes, You might listen to Hue Blancs Joyless Ones and think, That sounds like the Scientists, or I think they stole that from the Gibson Bros., or That boss sound reminds me Neil Young with a flame in his ass and youd be right and wrong. The Joyless Ones are all that and none of that, too. They are Algoma boys and we are proud of them. This is Hue Blancs third record. Previously they released a 7on Trick Knee and then a LP on P Trash. We think this one is the best yet. White vinyl. Some of Venice Sun. A smidge of Bloody Nights... A diddle of Fer de Lance."- S-S

"As Robvertogo of Terminal Boredom wrote, LIFE STINKS is "San Franciscos last punk band." Firmly standing in the puddle created by Crime, Flipper, Fang, and the Fuck-Ups, Life Stinks is the proper negative reaction to the rapid take over of San Francisco by cyber douchebags. Cool, dark, bad attitude with a groove (and a nod to Velvet Underground). They have a single on Totally Punk which is aces, a nice slap in the face. Producers MIKEY YOUNG and KELLEY STOLTZ  have taken that face slap and turned it into a gut punch. Blow for blow, this is one of the best punk rock & roll albums to come out of the Bay Area in at least a decade." -S-S.

If youve lived in the city for a good while and are some creative type or working Joe or Jane, you can be overwhelmed by it all. Life Stinkss second album Youll Never Make It is a perfect portrait of that mind-frame. Feelings of anger, self-doubt and vindictiveness weave though a sonic template that shifts from a Flipper / Fang arms-a-swingin groove (as on the title track) to standout Velvet poppers (Anchor), Stooge-oid stomping (Sliding Down a Wire), and outright demented thuds (Im a Weed). And then just when you are ready to take out a few windows, Life Stinks slyly slides in a gentle number which reminds you that the band paints from a complete emotional palette. Youll Never Make It is a great followup to their 2013 debut, which was called album of the year by some yuks at Maximum Rocknroll and earned high praise at Raven Sings the Blues, Its Psychedelic Baby, Terminal Boredom and other places. Also like the first album, Youll Never Make It is produced by Kelley Stoltz and Mikey Young (Total Control)." - S-S.

Title: Gone Gone Cold
Format: LP
Label: S-S
Country: USA
Price: $17.00
"Gone Gone Cold marks Los Llamaradas third and final album. Since their first album on S.S., The Exploding Now!, Llamarada has made some of the most striking psychedelic punk of the last decade. In the spirit of Red Crayola and 13th Floor Elevators, Llamarada approach to psych is devoid of rules, trends, or convention. Like Mars, they feel their way through sound, finding songs in the playing. However, while The Exploding Now! and their second album, Take the Sky, reflect the bands (then) excitement with their future and possibility, Gone Gone Cold looks at present day Mexico and its never-ending drug war. On Gone Gone Cold, fans of Los Llamarada will hear their oft-noted claustrophobic sound, but the songs a less settled than before. Confusion trumps structure, until a riff or pulse builds in intensity and the song enters into panic. Or a song starts at a panicked pace and unravels into a single phrase. There still is the subverted surf-guitar and male/female chant/vocals, but the drums are stronger and keyboards more insistent -- sounds desperate for a way out." S-S

"Its been a couple years and some since the world has heard from LOS LLAMARADA. Aside from some emails back and forth describing the deterioration of Llamaradas hometown, Monterrey, under siege in the Drug War, I hadnt heard from out friends down south. Then in Fall 2010 I received nine cassette tapes full of Llamarada recordings, pretty much most of the stuff theyd been working on over the last two years. I spent the next few days going through them, quickly realizing that there was more material than an album could handle. So Llamarada and I plucked out a couple of killers for a 7" (and started working on the other cuts for a full length later in 2011). To start, Llamarada gives us their jump on Rezo Por Voz, a classic by Argentinian rock legends Luis Alberto Spinetta and Charly Garcia. In the Llamarada way, what you hear of Rezo Por Voz in The Restless Light are hints and dustings of the original. This is no straight cover, but a psych punk romp of claustrophobic proportions. Flip the single over and we have A Current, an original taut and moody, a guitar drones spaghetti western style over a tense plain. Drop this into the opening scene in El Topo and I wouldnt complain. Cover art by HERLA ALARCON. 500 pressed."-S.S.

Price: $15.00
"S.S. Records is really happy to release vinyl debut of Low Red Center. While their sound centers around electronics, to call them a minimal synth band or electronica or post-punk is selling them short. Low Red Center not only have a great sound, but they have great songs, and a couple of ace singers. Originally a studio project, in 2004 Low Red Center morphed into an improvised group. Containing members of Voxtrot, Oblong Boys, Pataphysics, Spoon, NonoBangBang, and other Austin bands, LRC staged shows that involved heavy costuming, theater, dance, and, of course, music. Eventually, many of these improvised pieces were molded into songs. In the words of Chad A., The object of Low Red Center is an exercise in improvisation and communication. Surprising ourselves as musicians by experimenting and discovering on stage, in front of an audience is of our goals. Restraint and listening are our approach to playing. A dedication to succinct presentation prevents unwanted jamming and convinces the audience that what we are performing are practiced, pre-written songs. The sound we have in mind is minimal and somewhat alien, with a vague film noir feel. This tension is frequently broken with a faster, more jagged post-punk approach. The recordings present a studio translation of our live principals, but with the luxuries of production embellishment and craft. Everything was performed (no sequencing) on analog electronic synthesizers, acoustic instruments, and electric guitar and bass. All the drum machines were actual individual organisms, breathing with us in the studio--nothing was sampled and rearranged. No computers were used. Influenced by Cluster, John Foxx, Tuxedomoon, Bruce Haack, Crash Course in Science, Silver Apples, Raymond Scott, and Goblin, you can also hear Relando & the Loaf, Devo, the Plastics and others in their sound." - S-S.

"Long considered a classic by music freaks and much sought after by modern psych nodes, the remastered reissue of MONOSHOCKs monster has been anticipated for quite some time...and now it is here. Monoshocks roots lie in Isla Vista, a charming student ghetto stuck on Californias Central Coast. It was there that UMBILICAL CHORDS, a punk quartet who shot snot on the year 1987, were born. Scrappy and snotty, the Chords were led by guitarist GRADY RUNYAN. By 1988 the Chords were gone and Runyan, SCOTT DERR and RUBIN FIBERGLASS formed Monoshock taking garage blargh into realms previously occupied by the Stooges, Amon Duul II, Hawkwind, Blue Cheer, and other proponents of punkoid psychedelia or psychedelic punk or just good and loud rock & roll music. Later joined by ALUMINUM QUEEN on saxophone and DOUG PEARSON on all things Doug Pearson, Monoshock recorded three singles (on Womb, Blackjack, and Bag of Hammers) and a now legendary double album called Walk to the Fire (Blackjack). The 1995 release of their magnum opus also coincided with the end of the band. Praised by a handful of people at the time, Walk to the Fire didnt really start getting its due until Julian Cope featured it on his website Head Heritage, bands such as Comets on Fire and the Wooden Shjips started referencing Monoshock as an influence, and S.S. Records assembled a CD anthology of Monoshocks singles, compilation tracks and demo recordings (2004s Runnin Ape-like from the Backwards Superman). Since its release Walk to the Fire has been hailed as a "barbarian classic" by Julian Cope (who also wrote that "Monoshock was to rocknroll what those Miles Davis 1975 wa-everything Japan-release-only double-vinyl monsters (Get Up With It, Agartha, Dark Magus) were to jazz. That is, superfluous to the fucking intellectuals but spiritual carbohydrates for the ones who knew". Remastered from the original tapes-the result is a much better sounding record than the original pressing. Those fortunate enough to see their recent "reformation" show at the S.S. 2 Festival have universally agreed the band was "face melting." Includes an insert with liner notes and photos." -S-S.

And over the last couple years this ⿿fan club⿝ has asked me ⿿Whens the full length?⿝ over and over again. Well, now they can shut the hell up because the Nothing Peoples first album is here! "Its been ten months since the Nothing Peoples debut album Anonymous came out and since then weve heard nothing but praise. In fact, the record wound up on many a Best of 2008 list. We are thinking that Late Night, their second full length, is gonna make even more people happy. From the sci-fi, psych, proto punk bombast of the first, the Nothing People shift gears into a moodier, darker, and creepier existence. Here you get the influence of Dream Syndicates Karl Precoda and the later f-ed up work of Scott Walker. The record does sound like a late night, on a deserted highway, maybe somewhere around the farm town of Orland, CA, where these three -- nope four (they added a former Monoshock keyboardist!) -- are from. And that cover art? It is by Ilth. The Nothing People have released singles on S.S. and HozAc, as well as the aforementioned Anonymous, which is now in its second pressing." -S-S

Artist: OZZIE
Title: Parabolic Rock - 1975-1982
Format: Double LP
Label: S-S
Country: USA
Price: $24.00
"From their wine-soused, Magic Band obsessed roots to their art-rock/new wave end some ten years later, OZZIE made some fantastic music. They built up substantial followings in Sacramento, San Francisco, and Los Angeles. They were a Mabuhay Gardens regular, sharing the bill with bands like the Weirdos, The Sleepers, VOM, and the Nuns. In Sacramento, they played with everyone from the Rutabaga Boogie Band and the Talking Heads to the Nerves and the Fleshtones. However like many bands of the time, their limited output (only three 7-inches during their lifetime) and difficulty fixing them to one musical subgenre led to their obscurity and ultimately them being forgotten. In the early 90s, S.S. stumbled upon Ozzies 1977 debut single, "Android Love," and flipped. He tracked down one of the bands main members, WILLIAM FULLER, and struck up a friendship with him. A decade later S.S. tosses Fuller the idea to reissue "Android Love" single with a different B side. Fuller digs out some reel to reel tapes, an act that starts a multi-year odyssey through the Ozzie archives. The proto-punk meets glam wildness what made "Android Love" (produced by PUBLIC NUISANCE/TWINKEYZ DAVID HOUSTON) such a great song was present in the tapes, but there was more: Massive doses of Blue Oyster Cult inspired hard rock brilliance, Roxy Music glam drama, Sparks-like art, Bomp! Records-worthy power pop, edgy new wave that recalls the Suburban Lawns, and mid-Seventies-style underground rock sounds that thrill any collector of private press obscurities, all with a Keith Moon/Jethro Tull inspired drummer. By the time, S.S. was done digging through the archives, hed assembled a solid double album worth of unreleased and live material, as well as alternative tracks and a few gems from Ozzies previously released stuff. Complete with a full history of the band, lots of photos, and archival images The Parabolic Rock: 1975 - 1982 is the definitive document of Sacramentos forgotten band, one worthy of mention with Sacto underground icons Public Nuisance, the Twinkeyz, and Tales of Terror." -S-S

Artist: PRISONERS GO GO BAND
Title: Live! At The Butchery With Special Guests on Fire
Format: LP
Label: S-S
Country: USA
Price: $16.00
"Prisoners Go Go Bands one and only record is a remarkable thing. It was created in the early 1980s in a South Africa under apartheid, which was not only hostile to “race mixing,” but culturally conservative, as well. While punk and alternative music existed, it received scant attention by major labels and no radio airplay. Distribution through record stores was limited to commercial music. Certainly, a mixed-race band influenced by Can, Red Crayola, Pere Ubu, Henry Cow, and Derek Bailey was not prime for mainstream hearing. Nor was Johannesburg in 1981 exactly the most inviting place for such a band to release its own record. But that is what the Prisoners Go Go Band did. In 1979, Yunus Momoniat, Iqbal Momoniat, and Neil Goedhals formed a friendship which lead them to playing music. They called themselves the Prisoners Go Go Band. They never played a live show - neither the music they played nor the ethnic make up of the group allowed for that - but they did record their music. In a desolate part of Johannesburg, in Yunuss DIY recording studio, the three drafted some friends (the “special guest on fire”) and recorded hours worth of songs and sounds. From that they came up with an album and had it pressed up as a LP. However, through mishaps and circumstance, it was a record few people got to hear and even fewer possessed - less than 100 copies were circulated. In 2007, a long-time fan of the label, a South African, tipped S.S. to Neil Goedhals solo work (to be released on S.S. at a future date). Goedhals was a conceptual artist and guitarist for the great SA post- punk band KOOS. He took his life in 1991, but left a lot of great music. Dutch writer Fred de Vries was introduced to S.S. De Vries has written about Goedhals and KOOS. He also turned us on to Prisoners Go Go Band. Upon first listen, it was obvious that Live! At the Butchery with Special Guests on Fire deserved a second life. Hell, it was one of those records that belonged on the Nurse With Wound list and in every Mutant Sounds fans library. And it certainly would have a good home on S.S. Records. Four years ago we started to make that happen, and now it exists. Live! At the Butchery with Special Guests on Fire has been mastered from one of the few clean copies of the original record. The original handmade packaging has been recreated tob be as close to the original as possible. Liner notes telling the story of the record, culled from the words of one of the band members, are included. This pressing is of 330." - S-S.

Title: Soma Holiday
Format: LP
Label: S-S
Country: USA
Price: $19.00
"In 1983, the release of The Proletariats debut Soma Holiday was a shocker -- while American hardcore punk was becoming more generic, The Proletariat unleashed something strikingly original. The albums opening is a call to arms: the primitive, militaristic bass guitar and drums are sliced with razor-sharp guitar dissidence and vocals full of spit and bite. Avant-garde while remaining tuneful, their debut is considered one of the most brilliant albums to come out the early 80s American hardcore scene. The leafy suburbs of Southeastern Massachusetts, midway between Boston and Cape Cod, isnt where you would expect to find one of Americas most revolutionary sounding and lyrically incendiary rock and roll bands, but that is where The Proletariat began. In 1980, straight from Apponequet High School, Richard Brown, Peter Bevilacqua, and Frank Michaels began pounding out noise, and soon they added high schooler Tommy McKnight. Inspired by The Buzzcocks, The Jam, PiL, and Wire, the young band tapped into the high energy hardcore punk swirling around and infused it with art-punk excitement. By the time that their classic debut hit, The Proletariat were being referred to as Americas Gang of Four and a more supercharged Pop Group. The intelligent anger of the band was a lifeline to many suburban American rejects, young people who knew that life under Reagan wasnt right. The sound of Soma Holiday not only sounds as fresh as ever, the thoughtful politics of its lyrics are just as relevant today in a world of drone strikes and Donald Trump, as they were when Oliver North and Leonid Brezhnev were household names." - S-S.

Artist: SATAN PANONSKI
Title: Hard Blood Shock
Format: LP
Label: S-S
Country: USA
Price: $16.00
"Of all the former Eastern Bloc countries, Yugoslavia (and Croatia in particular) had one of the most exciting and innovative punk/underground rock & roll scenes and the legend among Yugo/Croat punk legends is SATAN PANONSKI (nee IVICA CULJAK). Starting with pioneering, late-70s, Yugo punk band POGREB X, through incarceration, a solo career and an untimely death by a mysterious bullet during the Croatian War of Independence, Satan Panonski literally cut his way into E. Euro punk history. His stage act was an extreme blend of punk shock and Auto-Destructiv performance. His music is a vivid mix of KBD-style punk, Serbo-Croatian folk melodies, and jags into abstract avant punk. Three cassettes were released during his life (and shortly after his death), one of which made it to vinyl. The vinyl is now very collectible. SS has culled through dozens of songs and come up with the creme de la punk, all transferred from the original tapes. Vinyl mastering by JOHN GOLDEN makes Satan Panonski sound the best he has ever sounded. This also includes much of Ivica Culjaks art, new lyric translations, a long biographical essay, and plenty of photos, all in a 16-page booklet. There is no CD or digital download." -S-S.

"Originally released on CD in 2002 by Psych-O-Path, Michigan Haters never got a proper vinyl release. So after years of Sightings and SS talking about doing a single, I finally said "Hey, Michigan Haters needs to be in vinyl. Let me do it!" The record being one of the bands favorites, they said "Certainly"...a combination of sounds which one reviewer likened to "a storm of knives." The overblown intensity was joined by abrasive twists and subtle unconventionalities. This is like listening to Terry Riley and Steve Reich though a Big Muff at 110 decibels. With Michigan Haters, Sightings started on what would become nearly a decade long reinvention of the rock & roll song." -S-S

Price: $5.50
"Back in 1986 a few guys got together in London-town in order to form a band. They ran an ad in the NME and found themselves a singer. They went through a couple drummers, played a bunch of gigs, released a few records, and called it quits. The band was forgotten by all but fans, friends, and a few music freaks. Fortunately, this band had some live footage that made it to the internet...and that live clip made tens of thousands of music fans say Guh-guh-guh-GAH! The band is the SPERM WAILS. While prominent in Englands Camden Noise-core Scene and having toured with the legendary My Bloody Valentine, the Wails sister band, the SW didnt get much of a listen outside of Merry Ol. Their three records (Boy Hairdresser 12", Carry-On 7", and Grim/Stroke flexi disc) were self-released and never got the run they deserved. And as far as I know, they never made their way off of Monkey Island. If you would have asked the S.S. Records brain trust about the Sperm Wails, you would have gotten a blank stare. That is until the Lady Chatterley surfaced. Propulsive punk rock with post-punk chops and one hell of an edge, Lady C. showed a band that could have held their own to any of the eras heavyweights (Big Black, UT, Sonic Youth, etc.). S.S. figured Gotta have record. Problem was finding it. Lady C. had been released but in short run as a freebie with some obscure fanzine. The song was crammed on the record with three tunes by others and that was not right! Former members of the band were tracked down and begged for the right to release Lady Chatterley in proper form, as the A-side of a 7". After much searching some Wails dug up an unreleased gem called Mr. Wonderful, a twisted piece of Fall-pop. And that we called the B-side. The Sperm Wails broke up in 1989. Members remained active in Londons music scene, playing in bands like SPECTREMAN and THE LONDON DIRTHOLD COMPANY. Currently, a couple former Sperm Wailers are playing in the band BLOWHOLE (not the free jazz band of the 1990s). 500 pressed."-S.S.

Because not only are these guys a great band, playing an updated mix of Wire/100 Flower/Lake of Dracula/A Frames-style punk/post punk, but they regularly tour (and like to do so). Theyve played SXSW a few times, Cropped Out, Gonerfest, and a couple stages at Fun Fun Fun. They have played live on WFMU and KDVS and get good rotation at college stations across the US. They have an increasing fan base in Europe, Australia and Japan. In 2014, they have their sights set on touring Europe and the West Coast. "Spray painted lines on a piece of cardboard is as simple as "art" can get. But you get to looking at it and you see contrasts, textures, spacing, and other things enhanced by a simple direct approach, things that get lost in a mess of images and muscular "creativity." This is the rule of less is more. Apply it to rock & roll and it is a rule that Austins SPRAY PAINT lives by. Following in the grand tradition of Wire, the Urinals, and the Icky Boyfriends, Spray Paint takes rock & roll and minimizes it to a few ungrandiose riff perfectly placed, catchy and energetic. Spray Paint puts all what is needed into a song and nothing more. It is an approach which made for a great debut single (on S.S. and sold out quickly) and an even better follow up. Spray Paints "Spock Fingers" b/w "Pink Pus" 7" is their second record and is even better than the first. "Spock Fingers" is riled up, punk energy in a wire-frame, wearing a spikey hat. "Pink Pus" is a mid tempo grumbling tumbler. Both songs are excellent and housed in a spray painted and stamped sleeve, in a limited run of 300 and on S.S. Records." -S-S.

Title: Alpha Jerk
Format: LP
Label: S-S
Country: USA
Price: $22.00
"From Sacramento via outer space comes The Twinkeyz and their Alpha Jerk LP, restored to excellence after 40 years! During the sizzling hot summer of 1976, Donnie Jupiter, Tom Darling and Walter Smith decided to break out of their boredom with a band. The group was named after Pink Fairies drummer Twink, and influnced by the Fairies, Velvet Underground, Thirteenth Floor Elevators and other underground favorites. In 1977, The Twinkeyz recorded and self-released their classic first single, “Aliens in Our Midst.” 1978 saw its followup, “E.S.P. / Cartoon Land.” And in 1979, the album Alpha Jerk was released on the Dutch label Plurex, run by Wally Van Middendorp of the Minny Pops. Though the songs on Alpha Jerk were great, the final mix was botched and the mastering job flawed. What should have been a classic stiffed as one of rock n rolls “could have been great.” Now it is! In 1994, Anopheles Records Karl Ikola decided to do The Twinkeyz right. Ikola got ahold of the master tapes and, with Jupiter and Greg Freeman, remixed the entire album. In 1997, he released the restored Alpha Jerk, along with abandoned single tracks, live songs and other tidbits, as a CD entitled Aliens in Our Midst. The collection and its vinyl companion Cartoon Land went out of print more than fifteen years ago. Now after four decades, S-S Records presents Alpha Jerk as it was intended, with the original cover art and the superior Ikola / Jupiter mix. This version has been mastered by John Golden and pressed in an edition of 500 copies." - S-S.

Originally released in 1981 only on cassette, with a limited run of 200, FM-BX V1 was the first in a series of compilation tapes released by the staff of a radio station in Brussels, Belgium. Needless to say, not many tapes made it around, and very few survive today. Id say that is a shame but with this vinyl release, the word will get out about the bands on this tape, albeit a few decades after its initial release! FM-BX V1 features three bands, two from Belgium, one from Scotland. The Belgium bands are Isolation Ward and Unit 4. Isolation Ward are known in underground synth collector circles, as they had a bit of a run after their debut on this release. Bleak and futuristic, Isolation Ward fuse post punk with early 80s synth sounds and a DIY approach. The stars of FM-BX are the all-woman foursome Unit 4. Little is known about the band or their current whereabouts. No problem because their music is all you need to tell you that they had something special going. By their sound, the influences are obvious: Kleenex, Delta 5, and the Raincoats all reverberate here though less slick than any of those bands. Unit 4s aesthetics are more akin to the Petticoats and, at times, the Shaggs. This is truly wonderful punk rock. From Scotland comes the Topplers. Great stuff. Teens with an ear towards the TV Personalities, The Times, and Subway Sect. 500 pressed, housed in a sleeve cobbled together from the original cassette release." -S-S

Title: Tête de Bébé
Format: LP
Label: S-S
Country: USA
Price: $11.00
"Ten releases ago we gave the world Babyhead, our look at the state of punk rock. The record got great reviews and was touted as what a compilation should be. To celebrate our twenthieth release, SS, Sr. put together Tête de Bébé with some help from French rock & roll luminaries Jack Volt and Seb Normal. This time S-S Records focuses on 12 bands from France and Belgium, all doing very different things to this thing we like to think of as punk rock. Of course that means nothing straight forward here. Instead this noise gets a unique Francophone twist. Bands/artists here are Volt, Crash Normal, Kania Tieffer, Le Club des Chats, Cheb Samir & the Black Souls of Leviathan, Cheveu, Crack und Ultra Eczuma, Lawrence Wasser, Lili Z., The Electric Guitars, Dragibus, & The Normals. For all of you who know that France has been turning out some of the best rock and roll as of late, this will be a much expected treat. For those of you who still cling to the tired cliche that the French cant rock, be prepared to have your world shattered. On white vinyl. 1000 pressed."- S-S

Title: Period
Format: LP
Label: S-S
Country: USA
Price: $17.00
"Carbohydrates Hydrocarbons is not only a great collection of punk-induced psychedelia, as heavy as anything can be without sludging to death; it was also the best thing Yonkers had done since Microminiature Love, and a high point of the Blind Shake. A few years later Yonkers and the Shake got together for a brief split/collaborative album on Learning Curve Records. Good stuff but not quite as powerful as the two aforementioned monsters. Now comes Period, Michael Yonkers and the Blind Shakes first full album together since Carbohydrates Hydrocarbons and their best yet. Like Yonkers and the Shakes previous work, Period is tuneful and heavy and punk and psychedelic, but there is also something more. The album has an energy which is dark but not sinister. Yonkers lyrics are intense, even painful, but his voice is strong. The swirl of sound created by his homemade guitar is other worldly, and when woven into the guitar/baritone guitar/drum throb and punch created by the Blind Shake, Period is nothing less than great. Seriously, after six straight months of listening to Period, I rank it up there with such classics of heavy weirdness as Von Lmos Future Language, High Rise II, and Monoshocks Walk to the Fire. Period is even worthy of a listen next to Blue Cheers Vincebus Eruptum. Period by Michael Yonkers with the Blind Shake will stand as a classic. I am sure of that. Vinyl copies of Period are housed in a Stoughton old style tip-on sleeve." S-S

Title: Issue 1
Format: Mag
Label: S-S
Country: USA
Price: $4.00
"Z Gun is a new print zine created by Scott Soriano (S-S Records/Terminal Boredom) and Ryan Wells (man about town) because they felt that there was a criminal lack of readable zines, especially one that covered the underground & experimental rock & roll.. They used several Search & Deastroy, Forced Exposure, etc. as templates and got contributions from Monty Buckles (The Lamps), Sean Wright, Min Yee (A Frames), Jacques Amsellem (Volt)., and others. The first issue includes intervies with and stuff on the Brainbombs, Pink Reason, Not Not Fun Records, SFTRI, SF Art Punk, Black Humor, and tons of record reviews. It is 40 pages tabloid size." - Z Gun. Highly recommended!
