Title: Canzoni Dal Laboratorio Del Silenzio Cosmico
Format: LP
Label: Spectrum Spools
Country: USA
Price: $20.00
"Edition of 500. In the nu-world order of neo-kosmiche "one man, a synth and a looper pedal" musicians, Chris Madak rises above the rest with an astounding body of work that has been brewing since the later half of the 00s. Canzoni Dal Laboratorio Del Silenzio Cosmico is an outstanding document in the long, complex, and complicated discography that is the Bee Mask project. A carefully and meticulously-composed album thats on par with the greats of electronics Lovely Music or INA-GRM catalogs. Straying from the current nature of improvised "one take" synthesizer music flooding the underground electronic community today, Chris has created an elaborate narrative which captivates and inspires the listeners imagination. "Canzoni" is a piece of work that soundtracks an event thats shrouded in mystery and beauty, at once larger than life in its grandeur and yet somewhat cryptic. Released as a limited edition cassette on Gift Tapes in 2010 and now where it should be on the longest surviving recorded format." - Spectrum Spools.

Title: When We Were Eating Unripe Pears
Format: LP
Label: Spectrum Spools
Country: USA
Price: $21.00
"The seven pieces on this LP were developed over a period of about five years; Rain in Coffee is built on a Hyperborean Trenchtown-era demo, while Pinq Drinq -- sorrel, for the record, and neither guava nor antacid as certain wags have already ventured -- was reanimated directly from the cutting-room floor, 11th hour, 2012. As a whole, they should probably be considered the proper sequel to Canzoni dal Laboratorio del Silenzio Cosmico, extending that records preoccupation with the dream interiors of post-1965 Fellini and synthesizing (pun very much NOT intended) it with Elegy for Beach Fridays fascination with the lush and abject facets of advanced gastronomy and the embrace of the recursive, solipsistic, simultaneously expansive and claustrophobic universe of the sampler on Vaporware/Scanops. However, in direct contrast to each of those prior works, When We Were Eating Unripe Pears draws more deeply on formal ideas from the history of records than any Bee Mask release to date. Toward this end, most of its constituent tracks were hammered into their finished shapes on the road throughout 2011 and 2012. Those of you who heard me on tour in the United States, Canada, Australia, and Japan, and particularly at Voice of the Valley, the Bunker, and Labyrinth played a part in the process of shaping this material and so may well experience the shock of the familiar. When We Were Eating Unripe Pears was recorded in Cleveland and Philadelphia between 2007-2012. It was edited and mixed at Tranquility Base in Summer 2012, mastered and cut by Rashad Becker at Dubplates and Mastering, and pressed by Pallas Group. The first 300 copies are on translucent green vinyl. Mark Price did the photography and layout. Special thanks are also owed to Jason Anderson, Katherine Brady, Matt Carlson, John Elliott, Lawrence English, Daniel Lopatin, and Alex Moskos, without whose perspectives this would be a very different and much lesser beast." -Chris Madak, Philadelphia, October 2012.

Title: Music for Amplified Keyboard Instruments
Format: LP
Label: Spectrum Spools
Country: USA
Price: $21.00
"David Borden, born Christmas Day, 1938, in Boston, Massachusetts, is an American minimalist composer and electronic music pioneer. He was one of the first people to beta test Bob Moogs modular synthesizer systems. His Earthquack Records imprint inspired Mimi Johnson to found the legendary Lovely Music, Ltd. with Robert Ashley. He formed the first all-synthesizer ensemble, Mother Mallards Portable Masterpiece Company, in 1969. If there were ever a missing link in American minimalism, Borden is it. Music for Amplified Keyboard Instruments is his masterpiece, released in 1981 to little fanfare on the now-defunct Dutch label Red Records. As its reputation has grown, most listeners have had to settle for compressed YouTube clips and poor vinyl-to-digital transfers, with original copies increasingly rare and expensive. Now, 34 years after its original release, Spectrum Spools presents the first reissue of Music for Amplified Keyboard Instruments, after recovering in Bordens private archives the only known safety master. Music for Amplified Keyboard Instruments contains four pieces, each utilizing three players and six keyboard instruments. "Etsy Point, Summer 1978" begins with a mournful, ominous mood and slowly blossoms into an immense, humid labyrinth of colorful, buzzing textures and howling melodies. "The Continuing Story of Counterpoint" is a 12-part cycle for synthesizers, acoustic instruments, and voice, upon which Borden labored for over 11 years. Parts nine and six, included here, are miraculous achievements in prodigious playing technique, remarkable mosaic-like structure, and aural magnitude, operating in the relative terrain of Steve Reichs Music for 18 Musicians and Terry Rileys Dervishes pieces. The "Counterpoint" pieces here are rigidly arranged with breakneck key changes and intricate time signature maneuvering. The resulting audio conjures kaleidoscopic patterns of beautiful melodies and compositional anatomy unparalleled in much of American minimalism. "Enfield in Winter" displays some of Bordens more ambient leanings, with slow, morphing drones and gentle pad sounds that erupt into shimmering patterns backed by a grandiose chord progression. Music for Amplified Keyboards represents a veritable zenith in Bordens corpus; a radiant achievement in sonic elegance, experimentation, and ambitious composition technique, and a work of the highest archival significance. Music for Amplified Keyboard Instruments was remastered with love and transparency by Giuseppe Tillieci at EnissLab, Rome. These newly remastered works are superior to the original vinyl master, giving the world a chance to hear this remarkable work in the highest possible fidelity across multiple formats. Includes extensive liner notes and photos by Borden." - Spectrum Spools.

Artist: CARAGNANO & DONATO DOZZY, ANNA
Title: Sintetizzatrice
Format: LP
Label: Spectrum Spools
Country: USA
Price: $21.00
"Sintetizzatrice is the first recorded document of the collaboration between veteran DJ and producer Donato Dozzy and female vocalist Anna Caragnano. Through his solo work, and in his collaboration with Giuseppe Tilleci (Neel) as Voices from the Lake, Dozzy has achieved some of the most remarkable vistas contemporary electronic music has seen since the turn of this century. By removing himself from his areas of mastery to shift his focus on the voice, he has achieved a new peak with Sintetizzatrice. Over nine tracks, Dozzy works exclusively with the voice of Rome-based vocalist Anna Caragnano, with no other instruments. Heavy layering and effects processes are used to display an astoundingly versatile voice-centric vocabulary. Rarely can a record morph from R&B to kosmische, through traditional Italian folk music, to Fluxus styles and traditional chamber choir with no additional instrumentation. Just a singular, beautiful voice. The results are simply phenomenal. With the opening, "Introduzione," an immeasurable cosmic weight arrives and remains through the duration of the album. "Star Cloud" ascends with melancholy extended drones that evaporate concepts like time and being, rendering basic human perceptions void all the way through "Parallelo." "Parola" dances around the stereo field with dazing rhythms and melodies, while "Festa (A Mottola)" is an homage to the traditional music found in the rural region where, coincidentally, both Dozzys mother and Caragnano were born and raised. The albums closing pieces "Love Without Sound" and "Conclusione" hit hard in a way to which no words can do justice. By fearlessly entering uncharted territories, Dozzy and Caragnano have made a collaboration which is truly experimental. Sintetizzatrice is a grand debut for Anna Caragnano and a fantastic twist for Donato Dozzy. Produced and mixed by Dozzy at Alaska Studio, Rome, in 2014. Mastered by Giuseppe Tilleci at EnissLab Studio, Rome. Transferred to tape by Pietro Micioni, Angelo Compagnoni, and Massimo Zuccaroli at Village Studio, Rome. Cut by Christoph Grote-Beverborg at Dubplates & Mastering, Berlin. Front cover painting by Angela Scaramuzzi. Cover design by Koto Hirai." - Spectrum Spools.

Artist: CONTAINER
Title: LP (SP 025LP)
Format: LP
Label: Spectrum Spools
Country: USA
Price: $21.00
"Providence, RIs (recently relocated from Nashville, TN) Container returns with another slab of alternate universe bent techno. Schofields take on that over-used genre is not only unique but utterly compelling, forming a modern and exciting new sound. While the classic Container sound is still in tact, this album offers a look into a previously closed door in the Container sound world. LP, like its predecessor LP, is recorded in mono and it cuts right down the middle of your skull, and doesnt float around in an imaginary room. These new tracks are immediate and heavy. Kicking off the delayed trip of "Dripping," a rhythmic bone akin to a rusty swing in a ghetto playground, morphs seamlessly into the complex maze that is "Paralyzed." Closing the side is a real stomper/head-cleaner of a track, the mighty "Acclimator." Side B opens with "Perforate," a bass line straight from Mute-era D.A.F., which mutates into an elastic acid line, building into a full rhythm n noise spectacle. The disc closes proper with the mad rush for the bar that is the epic "Refract." LP is a rough and raw ride, adding very much-needed gristle to the pale faces of the stagnant minimal scene. Recorded Labor Day Weekend 2012, in Providence, RI." -Spectrum Spools.

Title: LP (SP 040LP)
Format: LP
Label: Spectrum Spools
Country: USA
Price: $21.00
"Ren Schofields Container took the world of underground electronic music by storm with the debut LP in 2011 (SP 007LP). Following massive amounts of touring and the powerful follow-up LP, LP, in 2012 (SP 025LP), the project became a must-experience staple everywhere from U.S. basements to Berghain. After two fantastic EP recordings on Morphine (Treatment, DOSER 016EP, 2013) and Liberation Technologies, Container returns with the first full-length album since 2012, simply titled LP. LP is the most explosive offering in the Container oeuvre, capturing the raw and unhinged essence of the live Container experience while exploring new compositional and sonic limits. Opener "Eject" wastes no time with its instant feedback squeal backed by a barrage of pounding, distorted percussion. The concomitant storm of misfiring FX and derailed drum patterns sets the stage for the aural pandemonium to come. "Remover" and "Peripheral" are dense and intricate structural compositions ruthless in their delivery and infectious in rhythm, stretching the known limits of the projects sound into welcome new realms. Tracks like "Appliance" and "Cushion" find Schofield in his most vicious form, with floor-destroying tempos and a miraculously adroit sense of arrangement. Somehow, LP manages to simultaneously be the most palatable and most damaged contribution yet. Patchwork polyrhythm motifs, melodic (albeit fully blasted) hook sensibilities, and ballistic synthesized sounds are melted down together and shaped into some of the most rewarding, enjoyable works yet heard on any of the LP offerings. The closing "Calibrate" pounds with a hypnotic churn, growing into a stasis of red-hot squelches and deranged electronic malfunction that recalls some of the earliest tape works Schofield created. LP gives a sense of "full circle," blurring the end and the beginning into a baffling riddle that can only be admired and never solved. Schofield has enigmatically crafted his most insane Container album to be the most architecturally dexterous and club-minded, never compromising his fundamentals while evolving the project in an utterly satisfying fashion. LP is his most locked-in full-length recording to date, long overdue and absolutely essential." - Spectrum Spools.

Title: The Aquaplano Sessions
Format: Double LP
Label: Spectrum Spools
Country: USA
Price: $31.00
"Gatefold double LP version. When the Aquaplano records were first released in 2008 and 2009, emerging out of Hardwax with little fanfare, they were distinctly out of step with the way techno appeared to be heading. The minimal detour was reaching its logical endpoint, and producers were returning to the 1990s for inspiration, with Berghain and Sandwell District at the vanguard of a new techno movement. What the Aquaplano sessions shared in common were slower BPMs and finding inspiration in the 1990s, but there they parted ways. The influences these Italians were drawing on were rather different, returning to tribal rhythms and ambient textures to sketch out a much more heady, psychedelic form of techno. The results were a perfect balance of hypnotic beats and swirling atmosphere geared for a broken-in dancefloor or the hazy afterhours. Across these two records Donato Dozzy and Nuel would go a long way towards creating the template for a brand of deep, atmospheric techno that has become much more prominent in the years since. And while many have sought to imitate this sound, few -- if any -- have matched what first emerged from the Aquaplano sessions. After only being available in a very limited run, it is fitting that the sonic blueprints provided by Dozzy and Nuel are now available again -- and much more widely -- at a time when their influence is as strong as it has ever been. All music produced and mixed by Donato Scaramuzzi and Manuel Fogliata at Nautical One Studio in San Felice Cireco, Italy, between 2007 and 2008. Mastered and cut by Rashad Becker at Dubplates & Mastering, Berlin, December 2013." - Spectrum Spools.

Title: Plays Bee Mask
Format: Double LP
Label: Spectrum Spools
Country: USA
Price: $29.00
"In hindsight, the pairing of Chris Madak and Donato Dozzy was inevitable from the moment when the two connected on Mount Naeba, Japan at the storied Labyrinth party last fall. Both artists have worked to craft singular visions unlike anything else happening in electronic music today, yet despite each producers unmistakable individuality, there is a deeper reservoir of shared sensibility between them which makes Donato Dozzy Plays Bee Mask feel like a logical and necessary event. 2012 saw the release of Madaks monumental When We Were Eating Unripe Pears (SP 023LP) album along with the astounding Vaporware 12" for Room 40, the title-track of which opened Bee Masks Labyrinth performance to memorable effect. Dozzy had an equally massive year thanks the release of the acclaimed Voices from the Lake (PRG 001CD/003LP) album with Neel, which set the bar for intricate, subtle, and forward-thinking contemporary techno at a new high. Both artists have pushed the respective boundaries of their work to arrive at the point of this crucial and welcome overlap: a double album of material from the Vaporware sessions, re-imagined as only Dozzy could do it. Initially commissioned for a single remix, Dozzy found so much possibility in the source material that he turned in over an hour of material, making a standalone release the only reasonable course of action. The results are absolutely divine, a suite of seven pieces of time-stopping bliss in which the structure and melodies of Vaporware glitter through the prism of Dozzys singular production style. The meeting of these powerful minds provides evidence of an unparalleled organic chemistry. When listening to these works we hear the worlds of Bee Mask and Donato Dozzy bleed into one another, creating a new sonic entity with a life of its own -- one which with any luck will not end at this release. Mastered and cut at Dubplates & Mastering, Berlin, May 2013." -Spectrum Spools.

Title: Fighting!
Format: LP
Label: Spectrum Spools
Country: USA
Price: $21.00
"Alexander Moskos is a seasoned Canadian avant-garde musician active in projects such as Alterity Problem with Joel Taylor and the legendary Thames, who had an incredible 7" release on American Tapes in late 2011. Drainolith, his solo guise, has been active since the mid-90s but has remained relatively under-the-radar with mysterious private press cassette and CD-R releases. In 2009, Moskos picked up a heavy U.S. tour regiment and caught the attention of U.S. underground heads with impressive live sets. It was around this time that Moskos began to dial in songs for his debut Fighting! LP, which Spectrum Spools is eager to present. Its important to keep listeners on their toes and Spectrum Spools is fully psyched to hit you with an album of delusional blues -- littered with fractured synth, feedback and seriously cryptic personal content. One of Spectrum Spools first releases with strong lyrical focus, Alex knocks it out of the park with his synthetic voice resonating like a wasted Robert Ashley on Ambien. The tracks rage with a one-man Twin Infinitives style, with guitar riffs so fucked that they make Neil Haggerty sound like Les Paul. Damaged, random syn-drum triggers and MS-10 crackling go fully ballistic over dark and personal narratives. Despite the chaotic nature of the music, there is a defined and cohesive song structure to each track which makes everything more confusing but also highly enjoyable to listen to. If you miss bands like Shadow Ring and Royal Trux, but wonder where the logical next step would be in their absence: step in this direction -- we promise youll be pleased. Mastered and cut by Rashad Becker at Dubplates + Mastering, Berlin." - Spectrum Spools.

Title: A Sort Of Radiance
Format: LP
Label: Spectrum Spools
Country: USA
Price: $20.00
"Edition of 500. Matthew Mullane is a Chicago multi-instrumentalist performing under the guise of Fabric. Here we have a fine suite of compositions which embark on a voyage through darkness of night and the brightness of day. Washed-out dark colors and static pulses sweep across your stereo painting a portrait of intense yearning and determination. Recorded over the course of a year, Matthew has constructed a multi-dimensional organism of sound that has perplexing depth and astounding detail. The album reveals new shapes and sizes with repeat listens and is truly a work which you can submerge yourself in to get lost. "Leaving The House" is an energetic workout with its dense, ultraviolet fog and stream-like melodies. Then theres the vignettes such as "Orange And Red" or "Containers," that branch out into unfamiliar territory in their own special ways, synthesizing a journey far from home. So far, Fabric releases have appeared in very small editions including a split with Sparkling Wide Pressure and a practically non-existent cassette on Fairchild Tapes. Spectrum Spools is proud to kick off the label by presenting the debut Fabric album. Cut by Rashad Becker at Dubplates & Mastering, January 2011." -Spectrum Spools

Artist: FALSINI, FRANCO
Title: Cold Nose
Format: LP
Label: Spectrum Spools
Country: USA
Price: $21.00
"Franco Falsini is an Italian musician and producer perhaps best known for his work with his space/prog-rock group Sensations Fix, who released seminal albums in the 1970s. His music was primarily crafted with impressive guitar technique (proven to be way ahead of his time), various synthesizers, and unorthodox recording methods to churn out beautiful experimental psychedelic sounds. Cold Nose was his debut solo outing, originally released on Polydor in 1975 as a soundtrack to a film that has never been widely released and has only been seen by very few people. Falsini applied many experimental methods to his recording process, including a mechanism borrowed from the Bio-Electronic Meditation Society, which would monitor his brain activity in the studio. Only when his brain would produce Alpha/Theta waves would he begin to write and commit his music to tape. Composed in three suites of spiraling and kaleidoscopic proto-ambient psychedelic rock, Falsini had created a masterpiece that today stands as one of the all-time treasures of the Italian progressive music scene of the 1970s. Throughout the recording, we are treated to gentle washes of EMS and Minimoog synthesizers laced with floating guitar line melodies that break out into sky-high guitar leads. Cold Nose is a rare and gorgeous organic creation, glowing with colorful pulses and morphing algorithms. Spectrum Spools is pleased to present the first pressing of the album in over 30 years, remastered by Falsini to his specifications from the original tapes and cut to vinyl at Dubplates and Mastering, Berlin. Original record jacket scans by Devon Dagworthy." -Spectrum Spools

Title: Forma
Format: LP
Label: Spectrum Spools
Country: USA
Price: $20.00
"FORMA (Mark Dwinell, Sophie Lam, & George Bennett) emerged on the NYC minimal synth scene in 2010 with a singular vision of cosmic Krautrock for a new age. On their eponymous debut LP, the Brooklyn-based electronics trio merges the melodic flow and primitive rhythms of their motorik predecessors with the hypnotic drones of minimalism, creating an intricate work both addicting and rewarding with repeat listens. Like many of the LPs 11 tracks, the churning and relentless "FORMA237B" draws its energy from a precarious equilibrium between structural rigidity and free improvisation, a dynamic at the heart of FORMAs universe. With lush, distant soundscapes as interludes between these peaks, FORMAs inaugural full-length is a harmonious and expansive expression of the enduring power of kosmische musik. Mark Dwinell and Sophie Lam: (Roland RS-09, Roland SH-1000, Roland RE-101, Yamaha CS-15, Crumar DS-2, Oberheim SEM, DSI Morpho, Moog LP, Farfisa Compact Combo), George Bennett (Roland TR-707, Alesis HR-16B). Title: Off/On
Format: LP
Label: Spectrum Spools
Country: USA
Price: $21.00
"Off/On is an evolutionary act of fissure, the opening of a rift in Formas sonic landscape. The second LP from the Brooklyn cosmic synth trio of Mark Dwinell, Sophie Lam, and George Bennett, Off/Ons universe is darker, its terrain more enigmatic and aggressive than 2011s critically-acclaimed self-titled album. Recorded at the renowned Schoolhouse space in Bushwick, Off/On combines swirling arpeggios, gnarled sequences, and deconstructed motorik rhythms to conjure an atmosphere of entropic propulsion by unseen forces. Yet the emotional summits of Off/On are greater than those of its predecessor, its crystalline melodic peaks made more pronounced by the shadowed depths below. It is this synthesis that gives Off/On its singular vision; a sense of unity forged by its own inner tensions. Mark Dwinell and Sophie Lam: Moog LP, Moog Prodigy, Roland SH-1000, Roland RS-09, Oberheim SEM, Yamaha CS-15, Korg Lambda, Akai AX73, DSI Tetra, DSI Mopho, Crumar DS-2. George Bennett: Roland TR-707, Roland TR-606, Alesis HR-16B. Mastered by Andrew Veres. Cut at Dubplates and Mastering, Berlin." - Spectrum Spools.

Title: Jareds Lot
Format: CD
Label: Spectrum Spools
Country: USA
Price: $16.00
"Its been nearly two years since weve heard new music from Gary War and Spectrum Spools are excited to announce the release of his inevitable breakthrough Jareds Lot. Through the years we have heard the developments from the D.I.Y. psychedelia of New Raytheonport to the more current electronic acid-prog tracks we heard from Horribles Parade and the most recent Police Water EP. Jareds Lot brings the years of laboring and hard work full circle, with every facet of the project dialed into perfection. These tight and intelligently arranged pieces are the most concise and mind-blowing set of songs presented yet and were sure youll have a hard time taking this off your turntable. The album kicks off with the incredibly anthemic "Thousand Yard Stare," which asserts immediately that the album is very different than previous efforts, crafted with hindsight in mind and glowing with ambition. We can hear the melancholy voice of a man lost in the cosmos with nothing to lose going for broke, its all or nothing. Tracks like "Superlifer" and "Pleading for Annihilation" contain such a powerful energy and pack such a wallop, that you wont possibly be able to stand still. There is a great juxtaposition however, with songs like "Advancements in Disgust" and "World After" experimenting with new styles of pop/rock structure and incorporation of odd rhythm and melody. Gary has a masterful control of his machines, and you can tell that countless hours were spent making sure that the vision came direct and absolutely pure, from his mind to the record you will hold in your hands. Even though we have a more synthetic-based set of tracks, its apparent that these transmissions are messages that are based in our reality, evoking a boundless range of emotions throughout. The hectic fidelity of Gary Wars previous recordings has morphed into a unique production style which rewards with its rich tone and multi-layered tiers of sound and melody. We are witnessing a huge leap forward in both sound and vision, respectively. Meanwhile, the alienated code hardly discernible to the listener and clever pop structure remains, and in top form, making this album a warmly received gift to the Spectrum Spools catalog. "Fear that man who has nothing to lose." Mastered by James Plotkin and cut at Dubplates and Mastering." - Spectrum Spools.

"Fear that man who has nothing to lose." Mastered by James Plotkin and cut at Dubplates and Mastering." -Spectrum Spools.

Artist: HEAD BOGGLE
Title: Headboggle
Format: LP
Label: Spectrum Spools
Country: USA
Price: $21.00
"Spectrum Spools are beyond excited to present you with the highly-anticipated vinyl debut of the Head Boggle project. The world has been waiting for this day to come, and finally a full-length long player has arrived. Recorded at his apartment studio, Headboggle is the manifestation of Derek Gedalecias acoustic/electronic research utilizing the "kitchen sink" in every sense of the idiom: Moogs, harmonica, banjo, harpsichord, Irish harp, EMS Synthi, violin, drums, clavinet, Serge Modular, field recordings and more! What makes Headboggle so special is the careful arrangement of sound, with painstaking attention to composition and sound direction. Disorienting magic is a key trait of the Head Boggle sound, one which captivates and commands repeated inspection. Like any great, focused album effort, there is a narrative arc -- from the introductory "Flourescent Star" with its dizzying, fractured crackle and bizarre piano float to the tension-packed, information-overloaded squabble and squawks of the "Dream Diary" and "Europa Astrobiology Lander" tracks. Head Boggle is a dedicated and devotional effort -- one with precision and prodigious vision. Equal parts François Bayle and Tod Dockstader in the best possible way, its still hard to pin such a multifaceted talent to any kind of descriptor. Derek has been honing his sound for years with loads of releases on almost every essential tape and CD-R label out there. Here we have his finest set of compositions yet in hi-fidelity, tight and tediously packed, forming his most concise release to date. The Head Boggle debut has raised the bar for classical electronic composition with the greats, a feat of rare occurrence." - Spectrum Spools.

Artist: HIVE MIND
Title: Elemental Disgrace
Format: LP
Label: Spectrum Spools
Country: USA
Price: $21.00
"Elemental Disgrace is an album that needs to happen now. Finally, the next phase has arrived -- a stunning double side-long record of some of the U.S. best underground synthesizer music. Whatever rise to the synthesizer came later on in the 00s is hardly of any concern to Greh Holger and his Hive Mind project. Having released private press cassettes of solo synth works as far back as 2002, Hive Mind exists as enigmatic in the world of new-jack synth-heads and the tidal wave of "neo kosmische" flying far under the radar. The silence is now broken and here we are treated to some of the most unique sounds Spectrum Spools has yet presented. No blisscapes to be found here. No soaring latched arpeggios, no cosmic vistas. Not a single melody. This is two sides of ancestral ruin in its clearest and most focused presentation. The brutality of the Earth and the harsh reality of all that it holds. Unknowable sounds -- that of the dawn of the Earth, or perhaps the sound of its demise. A toxic swamp of chemicals and mutated creatures left behind long after man has wiped himself away for good. Field recordings from the end of the world. While others are racing for the stars, Hive Minds tectonic plate-shifting and brutal rumble will give you a brand new way to look at modern synthesizer composition. With a focus on textural sounds and shifting frequency registers, this album gives the listener a full range of listening possibilities with infinite replay value. Its worth noting that Spectrum Spools as a label would not exist without Hive Mind. An inspiration and a pioneer in the U.S. synthesizer circuit, its with pleasure and honor that they release Elemental Disgrace into the world. Cut at Dubplates & Mastering, Berlin August 2011." - Spectrum Spools

Artist: HUMAN TEENAGER
Title: Animal Husbandry
Format: LP
Label: Spectrum Spools
Country: USA
Price: $21.00
"Animal Husbandry is the result of absolute, genuine obsession: a devotional masterwork with song craft, exquisite production and aesthetics regarding the ultra-damaged times we live in, all in perfect harmony. Burrowed away in private studio sessions over the course of a year, Human Teenager have emerged with a profound and colorful masterpiece. Like Chrome before them, the effects of a carbon copy community of lemming rock groups were avoided and ignored, and the vision of creating a pure, singular work was achieved. Rarely does an album with complex structure and abstract tendencies sound as organically catchy as this. The duo spawn a brand-new sound that ranges somewhere between Ilitchs 10 Suicides to the work of The Cleaners From Venus. To be clear, however, it would be impossible to plaster genre descriptors onto an album with such enormous scope. Terms like "synth-pop," "rock and roll," "punk," et cetera, can all be applied on a surface level, but at the end of the day, its none of and all of these things at the same time, more or less. Few projects are able to create and exist in a personal universe that hits the nail right on the head the way Animal Husbandry does. From "Fourth Reich," the albums opening cut, its very apparent that Human Teenager has created an album that you will not be able to stop listening to with its wildly-morphing vocals, strafing synthesizer arrangements, and prismatic guitar detail. Police, The New World Order, YouTube, New York; its all a drag, and Human Teenager captures the horrors of everyday life in "the future" and holds them hostage. Spectrum Spools is very pleased to present you with an instant classic. Mastered and cut by Rashad Becker at Dubplates and Mastering, Winter, 2011." -Spectum Spools. Title: The Sincere Interruption
Format: LP
Label: Spectrum Spools
Country: USA
Price: $21.00
"Spectrum Spools announces the release of Eric Lanhams The Sincere Interruption, his first long-playing record under his own name after performing for years under various solo guises such Carl Calm and Palmetto Moon Electronic Group and as one-half of the Caboladies equation. Commissioned back in the summer of 2011, it was finally recorded in March 2012 and its been well worth the wait. Lanham has crafted a very special set of improvised electronic compositions which rise above many of the contemporaries of his ilk. With an eye on both the origins of electronic music as well as the not-so-distant past, The Sincere Interruption was recorded in superb fidelity with great attention to sound placement and frequency variations. Elements of late 90s-early 00s Mille Plateaux/Warp-styled disjointed rhythms are bent into surgically precise and meticulously pieced concrète/electronic form, crammed with information-overload situations and infinite variables to ones listening perception. Its a challenge to hear the album the same way twice with the sheer amount of action and peculiarity happening over the duration. While there are, indeed, busy moments throughout, tracks like "21:00" and "No Ordinates" display an attention to control and deep focus, relying on an idea which develops and evolves seamlessly in subtle variation while retaining a repetitive nature. An outstanding effort and a great addition to the ever-evolving Spectrum Spools catalog. Complete with an outstanding master and cut by CGB and Dubplates and Mastering." -Spectrum Spools.

Title: House

Price: $26.00
"This is the second official full-length offering by Cleveland, Ohio duo Mist featuring Sam Goldberg (of Radio People) and John Elliott (Emeralds, Outer Space, Imaginary Softwoods, etc.) after 2009s self-titled debut effort on Amethyst Sunset. A suite consisting of seven complex, layered compositions shows new progression in composition and melody from the duo. From the lightning-fast, bittersweet crescendo of "Twin Lanes" to the dramatic chord progressions of "I Can Still Hear Your Voice," House is a certain expansion in execution and construction. Tracks like "P.M." put a new take on the long-form Mist style with cryptic alien vocoder and humid pad sounds, while "Mist House" and "Dead Occasion" reveal new, complex territories that will most certainly please fans of the previous Mist recordings. John Elliott: Moog Voyager OS, Roland RS-101, Sequential Circuits Prophet 600, Roland SH-101, Phasers, vocals; Sam Goldberg: Korg Polysix, Univox Minikorg, Multivox MX 202, Dave Smith Instruments Mopho. Cut at Dubplates & Mastering, Berlin by CGB, March 14th 2011. Mastered by James Plotkin. Housed in a full-color gatefold sleeve." - Spectrum Spools

Title: S/T
Format: Double LP

Price: $29.00
"In 2010, Rachel Evans released Seeping Through The Veil Of The Unconscious, an expansive, magic trick of a cassette which captivated an unsuspecting American cassette underground and made dedicated fans instantly. Digitalis released fine editions of Seeping... as well as the acclaimed follow-up Luminaries And Synastries on LP which packed an equally potent punch and created much anticipation. Evans has since been hard at work on an expansive, definitive 2LP project, carefully arranging sounds to create immense, alchemical side-long tracks which push the boundaries of the project into new territory. These incredible new highs are documented in a clear, spacious fidelity where cerebral sounds gently flow and wash through the stereo-field, creating a beautiful deep-listening situation. Big changes in sound and scope are evident; a shift from the murky, mysterious haze of the older recordings into a highly addictive concentrate of airy tones and gem-like glow, each track forming a universal sky-map . There is, however, no loss of mystique. One of Evans most charming elements is her ability to create a divine magnetism, and to capture this very magic unfiltered, raw and uncompromised. Very few have the capability to create this powerful energy and make it as accessible as Evans does. This full-length definitive album is a high water mark in Motion Sickness Of Time Travels discography. An album masterfully crafted with ambition, crystal-clear vision and dedicated focus. Mastered for vinyl by Lawrence English and cut for vinyl at Dubplates And Mastering." -Spectrum Spools.

Title: Soft Coast
Format: LP
Label: Spectrum Spools
Country: USA
Price: $21.00
"Here at Spectrum Spools, one of the many missions is to make sure great, under-documented, and limited offerings get a chance to see a wider release. No UFOs debut cassette, Soft Coast (2010, Nice Up Intl), is surely no exception. It was said about the Swell Maps A Trip to Marineville that the album had been obviously crafted by true music lovers who were record collectors. It seems that Konrad Jandavs debut as No UFOs was calculated and carefully pieced together to spawn a whole new universe from the omniverse of collective music, a feat which many attempt but few succeed. Lazy comparisons to Neu! and other such kraut-oriented material have bubbled up here and there, but Jandavs vision, as with any great recording artist, is all his own; a new perspective from looking at music past and present." -Spectrum Spools

Artist: OUTER SPACE
Title: Akashic Record (Events: 1986-1990)
Format: LP
Label: Spectrum Spools
Country: USA
Price: $21.00
"Outer Space is a rapidly-evolving sound entity headed by John Elliott and joined by a constantly rotating cast of Midwestern U.S. electronic figures. Akashic Record sees the project grow in many different directions from the self-titled Arbor album created throughout 2008 and 2009 while retaining similar aesthetics of synthesizer experimentation and its esoteric relations. Recorded over the course of a year with close engineering assistance and compositional contributions from Andrew Veres in home and studio situations, a fresh array of fidelities and ideas previously unexplored have been mined and documented. New contributions from the elusive Philip Whiteside (of Wavehead) and Drew McDowall (past Coil/current Mirror Eye member) expand, stretch and challenge previous working methods. In the tradition of many other past releases, Jeff Hatfield (of Cleveland, Ohios Fragments) makes his essential appearance as well. Akashic Record sees the project move on from the stripped-down, primitive nature of the old into a more urgent, fractured and aggressive set of reality-based compositions. The work was created based on the events of others in mind; those doomed to circumstances beyond predictability or imagination. Cut at Dubplates & Mastering, Berlin." -Spectrum Spools.

Artist: PLVS VLTRA
Title: Parthenon
Format: LP
Label: Spectrum Spools
Country: USA
Price: $21.00
"Spectrum Spools is pleased to release the debut album by veteran musician Toko Yasudas Plvs Vltra project. Toko has been working for years already in established pop acts such as Enon, Blonde Redhead and now touring with St. Vincent handling synthesizer duties for live events. In all her years of songcraft there have been sparse, if any solo output, until now. Parthenon is a sugar-sweet album of catchy pop songs, crafted with expert precision and outstanding composition logic. Everything is locked in in a way that seems at once like clockwork, and also somehow very free. As if Alice Coltranes Universal Consciousness was sent into the future to be reimagined as an electronic pop record. Most of the albums focus lies on the glowing, ethereal voice that is unmistakably exclusive to Yasuda. Swirling, fine-tuned electronic washes and collaged clouds of ambiance swirl and hover around these mega-catchy tunes giving them a fantastic depth which commands attention and repeat visits. Yasudas songcraft here is in peak form as well, with ultra-catchy hooks and addictive melodies that have been dialed in to perfection over the many years of making music. One of the most brilliant facets of Parthenon is the anti-genre omniverse vibe, where all borders and boundaries set to confine music to a general one-word descriptor are shattered. "Pop" is a word abused to catch-all, and like any great, well-thought album, Parthenon refuses to be pinned down. Here is your summer jam! Lovingly mastered and cut by Rashad Becker at Dubplates and Mastering." -Spectrum Spools.

Title: Translations 01
Format: LP
Label: Spectrum Spools
Country: USA
Price: $21.00
"Material Study 01 (Sand) is a recording from a stereo hydrophone buried under the sand in a lake. Standing on top of the transducer, holding the MiniDisc recorder in my hand, and monitoring the feed with a pair of in-ear earphones, I slowly shifted my weight and the sand beneath my feet. My younger brother was on the shore throwing firecrackers into the water; this was an accidental aspect of the recording. Material Study 02 (Cello and Jacket) is made from a cello as it is dropped onto a carpeted floor with a contact microphone taped to its bridge. The moment of impact was frozen with an infinite sustain effect pedal. Both the sustained tone and the live feed from the contact microphone were played into the room at high volume while the contact mic was still attached to the cello. This was recorded. Roughly one year later this cello drop recording was amplitude modulated in a computer audio synthesis environment by a pair of stereo contact microphones taped to a wind breaker being blown by an air circulator as it hung from the ceiling by a string. Spatialisation Study 01 (One Freeze from Seven Positions in a House) is made from four frozen tones generated from a file on my computer in a computer audio synthesis environment. The four tones were played back simultaneously in an arbitrary stereo spread at a high volume on a home entertainment system in the living room of a house with high ceilings. The stereo and computer were both left undisturbed for an afternoon, and their output was recorded to a portable SD card recorder via a matched pair of stereo omni-directional condenser microphones mounted on a homemade disk baffle (for accurate stereo imaging) from seven positions within the house (order of presentation: 01 in the dining room, 02 on the second floor landing, 03 in the middle of the upstairs hallway, 04 in the middle of the upstairs hallway close to the floor, 05 in the front room close to the floor, 06 in the living room facing the speakers close to the floor, 07 in the living room facing away from the speakers close to the floor). Using a DAW, two minutes from each recorded position in the house were combined into the eight minute track here; identical overlapping envelopes were superimposed on each two minute segment, fading in for one minute and then fading out for one minute, with the subsequent segment beginning to rise in amplitude as the previous begins to fall. Spatialisation Study 02 (Forty-Nine Tracks of Isolated and Overlayed Clicks Generated from the Material and Positions of the Previous Study) is made from the convolution of randomly generated stereo clicks with the seven two-minute segments (mentioned above) in a computer audio synthesis environment. Each of these seven tracks were individually convolved and played back into the house. The output was recorded to a portable SD card recorder via a matched pair of stereo omnidirectional condenser microphones mounted on a homemade baffle disk (for accurate stereo imaging). A recording was made from each of the seven source tracks in each of the seven positions (mentioned above), for a total of 49 recordings. Using a DAW, one second was excerpted from each of the forty-nine tracks, playing one click from each source-position pair; all forty-nine tracks then play simultaneously. A Pencil Rubbing for the Album Cover is made from a pencil rubbing of the texture of a wall. A 7 1/2" x 11" piece of rice paper was taped onto a wall with stereo contact microphones taped to the wall along the top and bottom edges of the paper. A pencil was slowly rubbed against the paper in vertical lines from top to bottom (or L to R according to the stereo configuration of the microphones) and recorded direct to computer. The rubbing produced from this process was scanned into the computer and can be seen on the cover of the album." --Michael Pollard; Audio was mastered by Russell Haswell on October 2nd 2012 and cut by Rashad Becker at Dubplates & Mastering on October 17th 2012. It is intended for playback in a room via loudspeakers." -Spectrum Spools.

Title: Ghost Detergent
Format: LP
Label: Spectrum Spools
Country: USA
Price: $22.00
"After countless singles, LPs, and performances around the world, James Donadio is back with his first full-length effort since 2014s Petit Cochon (SP 035LP). Ghost Detergent is a consummate amalgam of fried gear, chunky bass, and fractured samples. Donadios extraordinary ability to fuse his wide range of influences into a collection of lucidly executed and concise jams has reached its pinnacle. Ghost Detergent is a rhythm-centric maze of fluctuating patterns adorned with crooked fills and raucous melody. Tracks like "Nerve and Gall" and "Government Wrecker" stomp with a coarse, grinding fuss gliding on swinging, bottomless bassline turbulence. Locked-in, puzzle-like sampling patchwork collides perfectly with an array of rogue electronics, creating a sense of daring nearly extinct in the age of gridlocked, BPM-steady 12"s. Tracks like "Pregnant Toad" and "Cheap Amplifiers" play out like a Def Jam bonus beat with ripping, cough syrup-slathered DMX snare sounds. Ghost Detergent has an unhinged, unrelenting churn that stares squarely into a personal vacuum, remaining uninfluenced by the influencers and unflinching in its originality. Neither bird nor egg are relevant here. Prostitutes has managed to carve out its own tenure in contemporary electronic music by delivering in live performance and by shattering expectations on records. Never does the aesthetic outweigh the content, and Ghost Detergent delivers only the wheat and none of the chaff. Conceived, recorded, and mixed at Elbur House, 2014. Mastered by Giuseppe Tillieci at EnnisLab, Rome." - Spectrum Spools.

Artist: SECOND WOMAN
Title: s/t
Format: Double LP
Label: Spectrum Spools
Country: USA
Price: $31.00
"Second Woman is a collaborative project featuring Turk Dietrich of Belong and Joshua Eustis of the renowned Telefon Tel Aviv. As one would imagine, Second Woman is a nonpareil debut of futuristic electronic music fusing the coveted genetics of the duos respective previous endeavors into an alluring new enigma of ASMR-inducing kaleidoscopic dub. Second Woman is a fully realized entity, a well-crafted sound world, and a refreshing shared effort that is inspiring in its purity and painstaking in its design. The opening "100407jd7" wastes no time exhibiting mastery in both sound and structure, contorting the frequency spectrum into a psychoactive mirage with its mutating tectonics and vaporous tone clouds. Cuts like "200601je6" and "700358bc5" are bar-raising examples of veteran craftsmanship and vision, refining and reengineering the blueprints of their early works to create an original and dynamic album. The deliberation and control over every particle is obsessive, but the end results of each individual track unfold with an organic temperament unparalleled in a grid-locked world of DAW-shaped musics and rats-nest modular aleatory. Words fail where essential sonics are concerned, and this vital new creation speaks for itself." - Spectrum Spools.

Artist: TEMPORAL MARAUDER
Title: Temporal Marauder Makes You Feel
Format: LP
Label: Spectrum Spools
Country: USA
Price: $20.00
"If Jean Logarin did not exist, it would be necessary to invent him. Never mind your outsider composers; never mind your library music. Never mind your merely unreleased records. Jean Logarins music, like some recent unearthings by Belgiums Ultra Eczema label, exists at a remove from publicity so complete that it was nearly not among us, and has never been before. Like any obscurity, its immediate appeal might be that this music could count as a more genuine artifact of its time than any more commercial product, by virtue in part of its being outside of history. Jean Logarins music is definitely outside of history, but it is no artifact. It is so deeply consonant with the best contemporary electronic music that it is hard to believe it isnt brand new. But the biographical details, however elusive of our usual channels of verification, speak for themselves: Logarin studied under Andrew Rudin during the early 70s; his interest in electronic music further developed while working as a studio assistant for engineer Max Tanguy, an associate of famed Krautrock producer, Conny Plank. Through Tanguy, Logarin met percussionist Hans Schule, an eccentric whose shady wealth bankrolled a series of recording sessions at Tanguys studio. Together with Logarins then-girlfriend, Llissa Zuckovich, Tanguy, Schule and Logarin proceeded to compose in the studio several hours worth of finished pieces whose original purpose and intention have only become cloudier with time. There was no serious attempt made to release it, and only vague talk of attempting to sell it for commercial usage. The music on Makes You Feel is, then, from a historical perspective, purely a vanity project. A vanity project within a vanity project, even: None of the pieces were given titles by Logarin, and the name "Temporal Marauder" does not pre-date this release. The album was compiled, its presentation determined, by its own first fan. And here is where the story strains credulity, because it requires believing that Jean Logarin one day met, by chance, accordionist and composer Guerino Raglani, who even then was uncle to a young Joseph Raglani, today trafficking in romantic, Kraut-tinged electronics under his own name. Two years ago, the elder Raglani passed onto his nephew a set of DAT transfers of his old tape reels, among which were (what have proven to be the only known) copies of Logarins studio recordings. The younger Raglani, so the story goes, flipped out -- became nearly scared, in his own words -- and demanded to know more. His uncle shed what light he could on how he came into possession of the tapes (a funny story in itself), but it took an extensive search to find any accessible trail to Logarin. While Jean and the rest of the erstwhile group were pleasant enough when located, and happy to lend their support to the belated discovery of their work, each was mostly surprised anyone would want to go to the trouble; particularly Logarin, who declined the invitation to be involved in the project beyond its approval, and encouraged Joseph to come up with the albums names and titles himself. So, the project became Raglanis, and it bears the impression of his own aesthetic stamp, drawing from a range of references he and Logarin discovered they had in common. One may search for further information about Jean Logarin beyond these and a few other bare facts, but only in vain; he does not wish to be known. But to anyone who supposes that music this enjoyable and exciting, however buried, wouldve already been found by now if it actually existed, I would suggest that it has arrived at just the right time to be heard. And to those who will inevitably question if Logarin himself is real, the only straight answer is that we have his music. How could he not be real?" - Michael Ferrer. Images from Jean Logarins diary. Title: Persuasive Barrier
Format: LP
Label: Spectrum Spools
Country: USA
Price: $21.00
"Three Legged Race is the ongoing, ever-evolving project of Robert Beatty, a Lexington, Kentucky-based multi-media artist and founding member of noise band Hair Police. 2012 has been a busy year for Beatty, as hes provided his personal brand of visual art for countless excellent albums, and has also released new audio works (the outstanding Wrong Element 12" on Acoustic Division is essential). Persuasive Barrier is the debut full-length album from Three Legged Race, recorded over a period of five years. The album begins with "Traces of a Wet Crowd," creating a spacious and synthetic environment for the album to unfold upon with its rolling, cryptic vocal spray and high-frequency pulsing. "Traces" seamlessly collides with "Permethrin," a track which suspends the listener in juxtaposed clatter and wide open space. "Persuasive Barrier" plays like a lost Mort Garson theme accidentally found on Haruomi Hosonos soundtrack to the fictional film Cochin Moon. The lonely vocal passages and dream-like melody trails lead the listener down a very personal path, where the visual and audio aspects of Beattys world leave the artist exposed for your examination. Listen carefully, these moments are woven together in a complex way that warrants repeat visits to this special stasis. The flip of Barrier starts with the warm "Butter Colored Hallway," which hovers over the stereo field like a hot cloud, slowly moving and dripping micro details as it floats into "Locked Eyes," which is another wonderful and melodic passage. The album heads for the abstract and jagged ("Budgeting Air") before arriving at a complex bed of rhythms ("Permethrin II") where the album comes full circle. Persuasive Barrier sees Beatty organize many of his musical ideas and themes old and new into a fluid, flowing and comprehensive debut. Mastered by James Plotkin." -Spectrum Spools.

Title: Flux
Format: CD
Label: Spectrum Spools
Country: USA
Price: $16.00
"Flux is the 1981 debut solo outing of Robert Turman, an American multi-instrumentalist and avant-garde composer. Until recently, Turman was perhaps best known for his contributions to the ballistic NON project with Boyd Rice, as well as other obscured U.S. industrial acts such as Z.O. Voider. In the summer of 1981, Turman decided he would take a drastic turn from the noisy/electronic/industrial work of his compatriots, and began work on what is now the classic Flux cassette. Flux was originally self-released in extremely limited numbers. Weary of the noisescapes of old, he set out to create long-form minimalism utilizing kalimba, piano, "Mini-Pops Jr." drum machine, and tape loops to create a complex bed of interweaving micro-stasis. The results of these new experiments were as beautiful as they were perplexing. A curious, dusty fidelity carries these classic tracks across four sides of vinyl, including all of the original Flux content. These compositions glow with a sprawling, slow-motion haze thats light years ahead of its time. Flux reveals wide spectrums of sound from melancholic kalimba and percussion patterns to slowed-down, syrupy exotica. Turman had complex ideas in his mind, yet only the simple technologies of the day were at hand. Hear the click of the stopping and starting Tascam 3340 open-reel tape machine as one hand presses the "record" and "play" buttons and the other plays piano phrases. While there are similarities in style to classical minimalism, Turmans sound and vision is his own and is exclusive to his limited discography. Lovingly remastered and cut by Rashad Becker at Dubplates & Mastering from the original C-60 cassette master. Original cassette artwork and scans provided by Aaron Dilloway." -Spectrum Spools.
