Title: The Nights Remains
Format: LP
Label: Spittle
Country: Italy
Price: $23.00
"Definitely ahead of their time, A.T.R.O.X. were one of the first bands to move beyond typical new wave styles and introduce strong electronic elements. Not too far from works of their contemporaries Tuxedomoon and Minimal Compact. The Nights Remains was originally released in 1982 on the Italian label Trinciato Forte Records, and is now back in print on LP for the first time since then. "Im quite happy with this renewed interest in A.T.R.O.X. It is quite amazing that Mojo magazine mentioned one of our tracks among the best of the Italian new wave, and its incredible that some friends from Sicily wrote to me how important our two albums were for them. And, indeed, they were also important for me and for my travelling companions; nowadays each of us sails on his own route, but those days the sound was made of our common energy. We were discovering the new wave (Tuxedomoon, The Residents, Chrome) and we ourselves were the new wave. The sound flowed like water from the tap, and it was nice to walk along the streets of old Piacenza late at night laughing like fools without fear of any challenge." -Francesco Paolo Paladino.

Title: Water Tales
Water Tales, the groups second and final album, was originally released in 1984 on the Italian label Contempo Records, and is now back in print on LP for the first time since then. "When we recorded Water Tales I was thinking of the sea as the only escape for mankind. I proposed this idea to the rest of the band and all of them were just thrilled. Probably it is the only new wave concept-album that was ever released. The sound, compared to the first album, is more influenced by the lessons of Eno and David Byrne, who were enriching their compositions with amazing and intriguing musical phrases and rhythms. Of course, we did not forget the lessons of NEU! and Faust. The Andreoni brothers and Marchini were both brilliantly creative and yielding, and they were responsible for all the musical themes upon which Benvisi carved the acoustics. Water Tales is a sincere album, then the season changed and suddenly we were every man for himself almost without realizing it." - Francesco Paolo Paladino.

Artist: AMBROSINI, MARCELLO
Title: Post-Industriale: La Scena Italiana Anni 80
Format: CD & Book
Label: Spittle
Country: Italy
Price: $35.00
“The Italian post-industrial scene, born in the early 80s, was one of the most creative and vibrant in the whole of Europe. Officine Schwartz, CCC CNC NCN, F:A.R, Giardini Di Marzo, Mauthausen Orchestra, Rosemarys Baby, Thelema and T.A.C. are just some of the Italian protagonists cited by Marcello Ambrosini in his work, Post-Industriale: La Scena Italiana Anni 80 ("Post-Industrial: The Italian Scene Of 80"). Italian post-industrial was an underground movement that sparked a whole generation of musicians and artists and has represented the Italian independent scene as one of the most varied and interesting in history. This volume of Marcello Ambrosinis writing will be accompanied by an original compilation on CD with nine tracks featuring, among others, Ain Soph, F: A.R., Mauthausen Orchestra, Sigillum S, T.A.C. and Tasaday. The choice of the artists included in the CD has been inspired by the chapters collected in the book, tracing the large part of the industrial sub-genre. 45 minutes of true Italian post-industrial music. Much room has been given to the first chapter "Prima Generazione Post-Industriale" ("First Post-Industrial Generation") due to the presence of absolutely influential names and side-projects inclined to the "do it yourself" aesthetics, like Luke Xs Ah Nahm Inc. - featured in the CD compilation. As for the "Power Noise" chapter the choice has been easily afforded with Mauthausen Orchestra. This category is probably the one that left the most traces in past and present decades with many artists and labels influenced by the sounds. Back to the book the "Esoteric Way" is represented by masters, Ain Soph and Sigillum S, with a rare effort form Thee Tree Rings as well. A different matter with the bonus track, an exclusive performance from white noise maestro M.B., a contemporary signal recorded only a few years ago. Numerous names should have been picked up, but more than a manifesto, this compilation is meant as a tool for contemporary followers of "grey areas" and "extreme culture". NB: The books text is in Italian.” - Spittle.

Artist: AQUA
Title: In Loving Memory of Aqua (1982-1988)
Format: CD
Label: Spittle
Country: Italy
Price: $18.00
"A stellar re-discovery from the heyday of the Italian post-punk scene. In 1985, Aquas sole release appeared, a self-titled mini-album; the four-piece from Turin was praised by the main publications and underground zines of the country for their rhythmic, enveloping music, with more than one cross-reference to the British scene. The six-track record had a lot in common with early new wave, focusing on a melodic and surreal style. A genre-defying 12" that combined some goth influences with dream-pop, with lyrics sung in English. This reissue includes 17 tracks of bonus content and detailed liner notes from veteran journalist Federico Guglielmi. In addition to the complete 1985 record, there are three tracks from various compilations, four from their first demo, five live extracts, and five more songs tentatively scheduled for a long-player that was not to be. That is the full parabola: from the very beginning in 1982 to the unfortunate split in 1988. Through different line-ups and different ideas, with the language switching a few times from English to Italian, this is the full spectrum of Aquas melancholic sound. RIYL: Echo & The Bunnymen, Bauhaus, The Cure." - Spittle.

Artist: BACIAMIBARTALI AND WINTER LIGHT
Title: s/t
Format: LP & CD
Label: Spittle
Country: Italy
Price: $24.00
"First reissue of Baciamibartali and Winter Light (1982), an essential document of Italian post-punk split between Tarcisio Lancionis twin projects Baciamibartali and Winter Light. Includes CD containing the album plus Baciamibartalis 1984 three-song EP The Mournful Gloom." - Spittle. "The magic touch of this unforgettable icon of romantic and decadent post-punk music is back to pluck strings in the depths of our souls, a jubilation of the most powerful vibrational dynamics, melodic/chromatic inventions and perspective layers . . . whether they are the dreamlike fugues of Baciamibartali or the neon-lighted electronics of Winter Light. . . . Although the “twilight of hope” and the fragility of the human condition are clearly inspirations to the author, on the other hand the stings of disenchantment look for shelter by embracing an impossible dream, one that dies away among the lights and shades of these atemporal melodies. Glimpses of the Pre-Raphaelite aesthetics that torture shrouds of sublime harmonies and chisel electric marbles of an epic memory, burning in a never-ending chant of passion. This reissue is nothing short of a must." - Aldo Chimenti.

Artist: CHRISMA
Title: Chinese Restaurant
Format: LP
Label: Spittle
Country: Italy
Price: $23.00
"Spittle Records presents a reissue of Chinese Restaurant by Italian new wave duo Chrisma, originally released in 1977. The album was recorded between London and Milano during the second half of 1977, and the results were something like post-punk. More in the direction of bands such as Ultravox, The Stranglers, and Suicide than the Sex Pistols and the Ramones, due to the use of electronic keyboards, obsessive rhythms, tense harmonies, and scratching vocals emerging from generally dark sound textures. Chinese Restaurant was definitely ahead of its time, especially in terms of Italian rock. Housed in a gatefold sleeve." - Spittle.

Artist: CHRISMA
Title: Hibernation
Format: LP
Label: Spittle
Country: Italy
Price: $21.00
"In the Italian panorama of the 70s, Chrisma (Christina Moser and Maurizio Arcieri) skirted the common rules of Italian pop (the aura of progressive rock or the first wave of prolific folk singers); in fact, they created Italian new wave from scratch. After the release of their 1977 debut album Chinese Restaurant (SPITTLE 051LP) -- so far from the punk revolution and so deep into the algid dynamics of the Mittel-European sound -- came Hibernation, their creative peak on which they embrace the revelation of the man-machine and venture into the realms of incomparable robots Kraftwerk. Again the album was produced by Niko Papathanassiou (brother of the Greek legend Vangelis), and it features very sophisticated cover artwork created by famous photographer Mario Convertino. Chrisma, so far ahead of their time, crafted an opus that should be considered at the same emotional level as the most famous synth-pop bands from the UK and Germany. Highlights include "Vetra Platz," a long digital ride worthy of the most famous Kraftwerk singles; "Calling" and "Gott Gott Electron," a primeval couplet of furious post-punk numbers; and the lush "Lover," with Miss Moser still in top form. This reissue includes the original artwork with a silver background. RIYL: T. Rex, Nico, Kraftwerk." - Spittle.

Artist: CONFUSIONAL QUARTET
Title: In the Box
Format: 3 LP Box
Label: Spittle
Country: Italy
Price: $58.00
"A happening -- maybe one could call it that. Confusional Quartet is one of the most original and unique bands to ever come out of Italy, and one of the few bands able to switch from the prog rock era to dislocated art forms, painting their music with traces of early electronica and a post-punk twist (read: no wave). A bridge linked the band from Bologna (rock) to the musical past and present of the nation, with senses of urgency and creativity on top and a revolutionary aesthetic revealed between the lines. No lyrics -- the music was truly instrumental, incorporating no social issues, but evoked a future no less narrow with their sonic scenario. Its really hard to pinpoint the band; they even re-created a singular version of Domenico Modugnos 1958 Sanremo Music Festival-winning "Volare" in a truly devolved way. Italian music history undergoes shock therapy in the exotic manifesto "Samba Paperino" and in the jazz-rock ostinato of "Pronipoti." Now listeners can finally share the whole experience of this truly unique band with this comprehensive box. The first LP contains their 1980 self-titled LP, the second contains their 1981 self-titled 10" EP, and the third contains their 1981 triple-7" flexi disc Documentario, along with previously unreleased bonus tracks. Each LP is presented in its own cover and printed inner sleeve. Limited edition of 500. RIYL: Devo, DNA, The Contortions, Magma." - Spittle.

Artist: JO SQUILLO ELETRIX
Title: Girl Senza Paura
Format: LP
Label: Spittle
Country: Italy
Price: $23.00
"After the break-up of her Milanese all-girl punk group Kandeggina Gang, Giovanna Coletti (aka Jo Squillo) along with her boyfriend, the Kaos Rock bass player Gianni Muciaccia, began to work on a solo album. Girl senza paura (Girl With No Fear) saw the light during the second half of 1981 under the name Jo Squillo Eletrix. The LP didnt seem to break with the early punk attitude; it was just more refined, faster, less raw than the previous repertoire. Another classic piece of early 80s Italian punk reissued by Spittle." - Spittle.

Artist: LA MAISON
Title: Collected Tape Experiments 1980-1984
Format: LP & CD
Label: Spittle
Country: Italy
Price: $24.00
"La Maisons story is essentially an oral one, like for many bands in those years. Casual encounters, records found and exchanged, demos recorded at home, live club shows in a country that in those years was changing socially and culturally at the speed of light, and was molding itself at the rate of a fluid modernity. The tracks of this album, Collected Tape Experiments 1980-1984, all recorded between 1980 and 1984, tell the story of a world where synthesizers and drum machines coexist and replace traditional rock instruments. Where homemade overdubs broaden the spectrum of sonic possibilities and the "cut and paste" of tapes is done, literally, by hand. A world in which the first infatuations for wave and industrial are contaminated with no prejudice by the rhythms and sounds of funk and disco. A milestone for those who want to understand the vibrant landscape of Italian music of the eighties, many times too hectic and elusive to be captured in real time. Twenty one tracks on CD and twelve on vinyl, most of them never published before, see the light of day more than thirty years after their creation." - Livia Satriano.

Artist: MASSACRE
Title: Killing Time
Format: Double LP
Label: Spittle
Country: Italy
Price: $28.00
"Spittle Records present an expanded reissue of Massacres Killing Time, originally released in 1981. Following the breakup of Cambridges avant-rock legends, Henry Cow, guitarist Fred Frith moved to NYC in 1979, and soon found himself deep in the heart of the citys robust post-punk and free-jazz scenes. He performed with Bill Laswell and Fred Maher, from the group Material, as a power trio of sorts under the moniker of Massacre. The group quickly garnered a reputation around town, and around the world for that matter, as a heavy and heady band that experimented greatly with rhythm, time signatures, and tone. As Frith himself put it, "the group was a direct response to New York. It was a very aggressive group, kind of my reaction to the whole New York rock club scene." Massacre released one album, Killing Time, before disbanding for nearly 20 years. Their first wave as a group crashed fast and furiously and this one album, recorded in part live in Paris, and in part at Brooklyns OAO Studio, is a perfect encapsulation of early 80s NYC. In addition to the original album, first released on Celluloid in 1981, this deluxe three-sided double LP includes eight bonus tracks recorded live between 80 and 81 at The Stone in San Francisco, and Inroads and CBGB in NYC. Avant-jazz-post-punk-noise of the highest order from several legends and one of the most important projects Frith and Laswell were ever involved in." - Spittle.

Artist: NEON
Title: Rituals
Format: LP
Label: Spittle
Country: Italy
Price: $21.00
"Spittle Records present a reissue of Neons first album Rituals, originally released in 1985. Neon is undoubtedly one of the most influential and enduring bands of the Italian new wave. From the beginning, the bands music was perfectly aligned with continental trends - integrating the attitude of early post-punk with certain types of electronic music that had timidly begun popping up on the club circuit, and an aesthetic that was a cross between late romanticism and decadentism. Inimitable bands like Neon breathed new life into even the most disagreeable and angular rock and roll, flirting with war-like dance music, and creating musical scenarios that were unheard of up until that point, placing them in harmony with some of the most talked-about British and German bands of the time. After a string of 12"s (five altogether) and a 7", the band finally released their first LP, Rituals (originally released for the KinderGarten label and distributed by the major label, Polygram). This crucial album, which unquestionably represented the bands creative peak, is being re-released by Spittle not merely for the sake of the album itself, but also as part of a wider campaign to document the Italian new wave scene. The eight tracks that make up this reissue represent one of the most original possible journeys into the Italian underground. Obsessively rhythmic, like a pagan ritual, with the vagueness and asperity of primordial rock and roll and an inkling of late seventies/early eighties electronica; a cultured dance, officiously contaminated by the sound of guitars that lead on their journey - if for no other reason than the act of faith performed for guru Jimi Hendrix in their cover of "Burning Of The Midnight Lamp". This "return to the scene of the crime" is essential in the rediscovery of one of the most sober and adventurous breeds of Italian rock." - Spittle.

Artist: PLASTIC TRASH
Title: Slag On the Tracks 1983-1985
Format: CD
Label: Spittle
Country: Italy
Price: $19.00
"Maybe at that time it wasnt so clear as it is today, but Plastic Trash is a perfect name for an 80s group... When I discovered them, 1983 was going to be replaced by Orwellian 1984 and their line-up had [been] stable [for] a year and a half. Our meeting happened thanks to a cassette that I received through the magazine for which I was writing... Those five tracks really impressed me and in my review I even wrote: One of the best demo tapes I ever received. After one year that tape was followed by a new one called In Between Us. Something just a bit more improved and still defined by the same hard-hitting sound alchemies based on guitar, keyboards, rhythm section, and solemn, evocative vocals. Some kind of synthesis not too romantic, not too dark, not too pop with a very inspired songwriting style and a sound that was more professional than most of the Italian tapes and records of the period... [They appeared on] A White Chance, a compilation of local artists moving in their orbit: Go Flamingo!, Intelligence Dept., and Plastic Trash, contributing [three tracks from] In Between Us (All Before You, First Time, and If You Turn Off the Light)... they released a third demo with four tracks, again with no title: the same old formula seemed to be enriched by a saxophone leading towards some kind of more commercial (new) wave. The wish of breaking through to a wider audience seemed to be a pretentious dream of glory that never came true; after some more concerts, most of them with a new drummer, in 1990 Plastic Trash realized that the time had come to give up. In 2013, while I was working on my book Noi conquisteremo la luna, I found the three demos, and listening back after all those years they still sounded fresh and dynamic and even brilliant sometimes. Thats how the wish (moral imperative?) of bringing together Slag On the Tracks took shape, as a sort of remedy to the unjustified limited diffusion of that material. In chronological order, the 15 tracks correspond to the bands entire studio legacy. All first choice material and absolutely no slags. So, no reason for any skepticism. Take my word for it." - Federico Guglielmi, June 2014.

Artist: PLASTICOST
Title: Canzoni Dada, 1981-1985
Format: CD
Label: Spittle
Country: Italy
Price: $19.00
"If this band from Vicenza found a place in Italian rock history, it is mainly because of their [1983] debut [self-titled] mini-LP... duly presented here at the beginning of the tracklist. I hope the frontman Sergio Volpato will forgive me if I say that, despite the quality of the following releases, their mythical status (small as it may be) is owed to that first piece of vinyl originally released by LM Records and coproduced by Discotape, a record store in Marostica. An enigmatic cover, a made-up name inspired by the original Plastic Host (a sort of subtle attack against Catholic religion), 23 minutes of music, a sequence of four songs opened by Canzone Dada (Dada Song), a real anthem, with striking lyrics adapted from a 1923 text by Tristan Tzara. Even if the just mentioned 12" represents the core of the present CD, the rest of the program appears pretty interesting as well. Panorama was recorded just a bit later for the Rockgarage Compilation Vol. 4 (the last of a series of [various artists] records produced by a Venetian fanzine) and re-released in 1987 on Evviva Evviva, an EP which started a new more pop-oriented era. The other 12 tracks never found their way to vinyl, while they made it on cassette tape, some of them sold with fanzines. The whole of the 17 songs represents the complete studio works from the first period, when the band was more in tune with the post-punk attitude. We had the chance of adding a few alternate takes, but we chose only the best versions. Thirty-one years ago, while reviewing Plasticost, I used a quite uncommon term for me: originality. I want to confirm that today because, beyond some inevitable influences from abroad, this material still shows some really peculiar aspects: unconventional sound textures, a theatrical vocal approach and a weird, ironic and creative spirit that within live performances were combined in some sort of sound and visual extravaganza. Something very unusual, considering how much the new wave circuit of the period was generally austere. Rock meets Dada? Of course! Otherwise why such an explicit title?" - Federico Guglielmi, July 2014.

Artist: RANCID X
Title: Voices
Format: LP
Label: Spittle
Country: Italy
Price: $23.00
"There has always been very little information about Rancid X, so little that even their supposed hometown, Milan, turned out to be wrong. The boys were actually from Torino. Another and maybe more serious misunderstanding is that Rancid X were definitely not punk. As with most of the young bands of the era, they were simply influenced by the new wave and were not afraid of mixing up elements like immediacy and sharpness with a classic rock n roll background, with Lou Reed and The Rolling Stones as the main inspirations. Rancid Xs lone album was released in early 1979 with a dark and disquieting cover. Voices was a very appropriate title, evoking intense emotions. Even though Rancid Xs adventure ended quickly, they were rediscovered and finally got some glory in the second half of the 90s, when their tracks were included on such bootleg compilations as Killed By Death #201 (1997). With this first reissue of Voices, they have at last been rescued from oblivion." - Spittle.

Artist: REVOLVER
Title: s/t
Format: LP
Label: Spittle
Country: Italy
Price: $21.00
""Demented rock" was one of the genuine forms of punk rock in Italy, characterized by a transgressive formula with tremendous sarcasm and attitude. Everything was set against the seeds of the counterculture, the pop heritage, and the exasperated technicality of progressive rock. First released in 1979 on Philips and now reissued for the first time since, this is the one and only effort from Revolver, a perfect example of the sub-genre, with hints of foolish Zappaesque interludes. Vocals on the single "Gay" courtesy of glam pop star Ivan Cattaneo. Features significant contributions from Baffo Banfi, iconic keyboard player with progressive heroes Biglietto Per LInferno and solo artist for Klaus Schulzes Innovative Communication label." - Spittle.

Artist: RINF + ADRIAN SHERWOOD
Title: Der Westen Ist Am Ende: The Complete Sessions
Format: LP
Label: Spittle
Country: Italy
Price: $30.00
"In the summer of 1986, Adrian Sherwood (On-U Sound) went to Florence, Italy for a different kind of vacation: to make a record with noise-funk band Rinf. The sweaty sessions stretched for weeks, resuming in London - to whip these loose tracks into shape. The record label Lacerba released the final mixes on two 12" EPs, Bang Bang (1987) and Rubber On Rider (1988), that have long been out of print. For the first time, Der Westen Ist Am Ende compiles the fully remastered complete sessions in a new package that cheekily references the testosterone-driven porn-obsessed lyrics. Comes in a beautiful three-color silkscreen and custom die-cut jacket." - Spittle.

Artist: SKIANTOS
Title: Inascoltable
Format: LP
Label: Spittle
Country: Italy
Price: $21.00
"Spittle Records present a reissue of Skiantoss Inascoltable, originally released in 1977. Inascoltable is the first album from Bolognese group Skiantos, the band that added a completely different flavor to the rock underground with their delirious performances and over the top lyrics. Released through Oderso Rubinis Harpos Bazaar label (later Italian Records) in 1977 on cassette format, the album was recorded in one night in November 1977 in a session that was almost improvised. It was later printed on LP in 1979. This reissue from the original master does full justice to the insanely creative playing of the band fronted by Freak Antoni, who were true forerunners of demented rock and virtuous artists capable of colorfully interpreting all the non-standard rock movements from the British and American underground. This record wouldnt be out of place in the Zappa discography, although the whole turned out a little bit more punk..." - Spittle.

Artist: STUPID SET, THE
Title: Soul Of Trade
Format: LP + CD
Label: Spittle
Country: Italy
Price: $24.00
"Stupid Set are one of the most sought after bands of the Bologna rock scene. Their parabola ended in the early eighties but the band, led by Gaznevadas first bass player Gianpietro Huber, had been one of the most intense of the new era, leading to a connection with the stalwarts of American avant-garde. Truly theyve been the Italian answer to Residents and Negativland. Soul of Trade was executed only three times in 1981 and was a strong emotional and technical effort: from the generation of electronic sounds, to the use of loops and cut-up of magnetic tapes. It is available on vinyl after 34 years from the very first live performance, and still retains the strictness of its theoretical impact and the freshness of the songs. Paolo Bazzani, Gianpietro Huber, Giorgio Lavagna, Fabio Sabbioni and the artistic/executive producer are very proud of this unknown masterpiece, made in 1981." - Spittle.

Title: 391 Vol. 4: Umbria - Voyage Through The Deep 80s Underground In Italy
Format: Double CD
Label: Spittle
Country: Italy
Price: $26.00
“Spittle Records presents 391 Vol. 4: Umbria - Voyage Through The Deep 80s Underground In Italy. The 391 project was born in 1983 from the desire of two troubled teenagers, from a boring provincial town, Ascoli Piceno, to give life and form to a series of compilations on tape, a picture of the Italian music underground. The name choice was intended as a tribute to the homonymous magazine of Dadaist New York, drawn by painter and poet Francis Picabia. The intent was to geographically organize the musical material, probing the new wave and post-punk groups region by region: A mapping of Italys music, the marginalized and angular, according to this selection criterion: represent the most radical of the new national rock scene, and be a group that grew up in the aftermath of the post-77 explosion, trying to capture its very essence. Despite a great deal of material collected, from various regions, the 391 project stopped in 1985, after the release of the first two volumes dedicated to Marche and Umbria. With the executive production of Spittle Records and involvement of old and new fellow adventurers, we resume the thread widening the sound spectrum, in an effort to be as comprehensive as possible. More than thirty years after its birth, 391 returns to unearth treasures, in many cases not yet emerged, through a new journey into deep Italian underground. Features: Nemo: Gli Amici Di Flash Gordon, Lӧ Noize, Anime Di Gomma, I. Decayed, Water Krause, Twilight Marshes, Busti Robusti, Brain Machine, Die Crucis, Strange Militia, Exules Of Joy, Ipnotico Tango, Secret Gardens, X-Offender, Militia, Warhead, Gli Elettrici, Aidons La Norvege, Syndrome, Nengue, Plan K, Effetto Notte, Why Theory?, Bolletta - Germini, Officina Dello Sterminio, Filth, Axa Vanea, FZ, Future Sense, Sulu, Res Majes, Dosshouse, I Giardini Di Marzo, Guguz 89° Flash and T.V. Title: iV3SCR (The Great Complotto 2)
Format: LP + CD
Label: Spittle
Country: Italy
Price: $24.00
"The second chapter in the Great Complotto manifesto from Pordenone (birthplace of Italian punk). Originally issued in 1983, though most of its songs were recorded in 1981, Italian Records second compilation of Italian punk is even more attractive than its first (The Great Complotto - Pordenone (SPITTLE 048LP)). What glues together all the contributors (Sexy Angels, Gigolo Look, Cancer (credited on the cover as 0010110000010011), and Mess) is their innovative and creative use of electronics. This reissue includes the original artwork (a giant poster folded in four parts) and an extra CD with the LPs tracks and five bonus tracks from the ultra-rare 7" single originally enclosed with the Onda 400 fanzine in 1980 (including contributions from Andy Warhol Banana Technicolor, 001011000010011101, Sexy Angels, Fhedolts, and Mind Invaders). RIYL: The Cure, DEVO, Joy Division." - Spittle.

Title: Milano New Wave 2014: The Evolution of an Underground Music Scene
Format: LP
Label: Spittle
Country: Italy
Price: $23.00
"The title Milano New Wave 2014 recalls Spittles 2008 compilation Milano New Wave 1980-83, a document of a specific period of the very first wave scene of Milan. But this title is a very clear statement of intent -- The Evolution of an Underground Music Scene is the perfect subtitle for this collection, a kind of "how we are 30 years later," where you can find almost the same protagonists of the first wave. Forget any nostalgic thoughts or the idea of a reunion of friends, though, because the ten tunes that make up this collection are deeply immersed in todays Milan. The albums intent is fully epitomized in the works of State of Art, Out of Limbo, Sound of LLL, Ivories, and La Form, with their new wave, white funk, and 4AD-style baroque embroideries. The other protagonists choose other ways to spread the Milans nouvelle vague: psychedelia for Peter Sellers & The Hollywood Party and electronic drives or Italo disco for Atelier Folie, ltaloconnection, Sigmatibet, and 2+2=5 featuring Trevor Finn. This compilation captures an urge to drive with the utmost care through an underground route started in 1980, consistently following the changes of a complicated metropolis like Milan. Pressed on transparent vinyl. Limited to 300 copies." - Spittle.

Title: Milano New Wave: 1980-83 Redux
Format: LP
Label: Spittle
Country: Italy
Price: $21.00
"Originally released in 2010. Following an idea of Italian disco guru Fred Ventura to publish some recordings that have remained in the vaults for more than 25 years, and thanks to the skillful "mastering touch" of Giovanni Versari, Spittle Records present a representative and intense snapshot of the Milanese new-wave scene of the early eighties with Milano New Wave: 1980-83 Redux. Twelve tracks that recount the salient steps of the brief but intense career of four Milanese bands from the post-punk of Other Side, to the oblique funk of State Of Art, to the Kraftwerk influences of La Maison, to the electro pop-wave of Jeunesse dIvoire. "Boris Karloff" features Kubrix and 2+2=5 playing with La Maison, forming the group known as Entourage LAsino. These four bands illustrate the mood of an underground scene that burned out rapidly, mostly due to the indifference of the media and recording industry during those years." - Spittle.

Title: Nouances
Format: LP
Label: Spittle
Country: Italy
Price: $21.00
"First reissue of the 1984 Nouances compilation cassette, collecting music by Daniele Ciullini, Rinf, Minox, Twilight Ritual, and The Tempest. 45-RPM LP with postcards and poster. Limited edition of 300. Co-released by Spittle and Dagored. "Nouances was born as a territorial meeting point. A sort of platform whose intent wasnt to show everything but to approach common elements in the contemporary underground culture. A personal route made possible by the usual tools of its heyday: fanzine and music. So, the project was developed as a bilingual booklet with an audiotape attached. Literary contributions came from the editors of the most sought after zine and multimedia teams of the time: Dancing Silhouettes, FREE, Nero, Trax, Tribal Cabaret. The tape was addressing, true to the line, different souls covering a large musical spectrum from romantic new wave funk to minimal synth, even going through post industrial scenarios. All tracks were otherwise unreleased. Tasted today Nouances has a heterogeneous feel, but -- at the end of the day -- that was the goal: approaching the diverse" --Daniele Ciullini, February 2016. "Spittle Records presents the first vinyl edition of this seminal compilation of the post-punk undercurrents of northern Italy. A typical story of suburban Italy, based in Pordenone, when creativity was on top and the shortage of technical resources didnt keep the dream from coming true. That was the driving force of the often underestimated Italian punk scene. At the end of the 70s a bunch of musicians from Pordenone joined the punk wave spreading all over the UK, making their way to London for a bizarre pirate live event. Hitler SS and Tampax played under the Acklam Bridge on Portobello Road. That was 1979. The performance was soon after known as the "Cartoon Concert" -- because the members of the band played fake cardboard instruments. The Great Complotto was the cure, the vital alternative to the western standard way of life. This sought-after collection was released on cassette in 1980 and soon after was welcomed as the Pordenone manifesto, a testament to the incredible and extremely innovative musical scene that was not only aware of the British revolution but even tuned in to the more eclectic US form of art- and post-punk (think early Devo, The Residents, and -- why not? -- New York no wave). On this compilation youll get an idea of the raucous genius of Hitler SS/Tampax, Mess, Fhedolts, Sexy Angels, Andy Warhol Banana Technicolor, Mind Invaders, 001100111100011001011100 (credited as Cancer on the label), Musique Mecanique, W.K.W., Little Chemist, and Waalt Diisneey Production." - Spittle.
