Artist: ALU Title: Autismenschen Format: CD Label: C.I.P. Country: USA Price: $11.00 |
| "Alu was a seminal German synth-punk band active 1979-83. This CD is their unreleased first studio album from 1980. For those to whom Alu is a new name, comparable audio would be Suicide, Throbbing Gristle (circa 20 Jazz Funk Greats), Esplendor Geometrico, or Algebra Suicide, not to mention myriad electronic German bands who existed concomitant to Alu and have enjoyed recent reissues of their own, including Phonophobia, Die Todlich Doris, and Thorax-Wach. Labels with similar artists include Zick Zack and Twisted Knister. Alu was born from the ashes of the seminal project Sand, whose releases were issued a few years ago through the persistence and passion of David Tibet. Not coincidentally, David Tibet also provided liner notes for this release. This release comes with a booklet of lyrics (in German), photos, plus a short biography (in English) of the band." - C.I.P. |
|
Artist: DEMONS/VERTONEN Title: Split Format: LP Label: C.I.P. Country: USA Price: $12.00 |
| "Demons is the synth duo of Nate Young (Wolf Eyes) and Steven Kenney (Isis, Werewolves). Their track was recorded live in Chicago in March 2007 and its like an underwater space journey. The Vertonen side is the atmospheric opposite, like an out of control fire scorching the chaparral. Edition of 500, co-released by the lovely SNSE." - C.I.P. |
|
Artist: UNS (ZEV) Title: What Does The Brain Have To Do With It Format: Double CD Label: C.I.P. Country: USA Price: $26.00 |
| "ZEV has been exploring and breaking ground in the audio and textual fields since the mid 1970s. Although best-known for his metal-based percussive performances, uns, his electronics and vocal-based whirlwind, was one of the most innovative (and individual) audio experiments of the early 1980s. unss combination of sound poetics and voice treatments with dense sonic landscapes resulted in challenging, unique, and rewarding audio. A historical testament to the challenge uns presented appears on the first track of this 2 CD set, when some of the audience members -- in addition to repeatedly shouting Die! as the set concluded -- shout out for Flipper. Given the ire Flipper drew from their audiences, the fact that the audience preferred that disconnect to the disconnect uns was creating speaks volumes about the gauntlet uns had thrown down. Even when uns was active (1980-83), recordings were extremely difficult to come by and live performances were infrequent. This new 2 CD set presents four live performances, with only fractional snippets previously released anywhere. For fans of: uns, ZEV, Lieutenant Caramel, sound poetry, musique concrete." - C.i.P. |

Artist: ASHTRAY NAVIGATIONS Title: You Cannot Tell Cigars... Format: CD Label: C/Psi/P Country: New Zealand Price: $15.00 |
| "Bedroom legends ASHTRAY NAVIGATIONS once more shower the parched earth with canonized filth and cheap-tape degradation, setting a brand new bench mark in foggy-psychic-swuzz. Six extended tracks that run the gamut of ooze, sliming a cast of guest contributors along the way." -C/Psi/P. "A trashcan antidote to LaMonte Young" - David Keenan, The Wire. 2004 release. |
|
Artist: BIRCHVILLLE CAT MOTEL+A. COURTIS Title: Three Sparkling Echoes Format: CD Label: C/Psi/P Country: New Zealand Price: $16.50 |
| "Stars align in mysterious configurations. And then again, sometimes they dont...they just hang in the sky like some kinda sulky, hyper-nuclear mall-rat. I personally have had the misfortune of missing the company of ANLA COURTIS on tour on at least four different occasions...always either one week too early or too late. Three Sparkling Echoes mirrors these frustrated mis-meetings. Yearning and elusive...like two people who should know each other really well, but who just never had time. Ghosts in your peripheral vision, fleeting reflections in car paintwork, and blackening clouds that billow into grimacing bunnies only to be blown out of recognition. A deep, resonating, heaviness no more graspable than the shimmer of wet cobwebs. Moving stuff."-Campbell Kneale, BIRCHVILLE CAT MOTEL, et al. |
|
Artist: KNEALE, CAMPBELL Title: Pink Stalingrad Format: CD Label: C/Psi/P Country: New Zealand Price: $17.00 |
| "Imagine... a SOLO album! Some kind of loose-as-hell rumination on human tragedy of a magnitude beyond imagining. Take the everlasting, golden-superchord of Birchville Cat Motel, the growling tectonic, under-par riffage of Black Boned Angel, and the Burzum-o-phonic, cassette-left-on-the-dashboard fidelity disruption of Ming. A white-knuckled ride through snow and smoke and blood and fire. SHOSTAKOVICH!" - C/Psi/P. |
|
Artist: MALCOLM, GREG Title: Hung Format: CD Label: C/Psi/P Country: New Zealand Price: $17.00 |
| "Recorded live, without the cumbersome weight of newfangled techniques such as overdubs (gee-whiz!) which may seem a little commonplace for you hip-to-be-square cats until you realise that the good Mr Malcolm plays two guitars and percussion with his feet. His third guitar, the guitar he actually holds in his hands, has about half a million strings and a number of contact mics imbedded where the sun-dont-shine to amplify a host of springs, triangles, and other junkyard ephemera. This is a second-to-none ride through a world of sunshine, as viewed through net curtains from a darkened room in suburban New Zealand. Charming, stupifying, and profoundly accomplished. The noise of music!" - C/Psi/P. |
|
Artist: WICKHAM-SMITH, SIMON Title: Two 4 Dancin Format: CD Label: C/Psi/P Country: New Zealand Price: $14.00 |
| "The latest from prolific musical explorer SIMON WICKHAM-SMITH, and one of his most out-of-left-field releases to date. Two 4 Dancin shows Wickham-Smith at his grandest, as his music explodes at the seams with wonderfully resonant contradictions with exquisite textures capable of blissfully enveloping daily life and driving ones neighbors batty. An infinite block-rocking beat melts into deep transparency, revealing a subterranean omniverse of Casiotone mantras, silicon chip psalms, and the mystical babbling of angels and derelict gutter drunks. Think Steve Reich, 50 Cent, and a Buddhist throat-singing Devo." - C/Psi/P. 2004 release. |
|
Artist: CAEDMON Title: Caedmon Format: LP Label: Caedmon Country: Price: $26.00 |

Comes with nice insert featuring all the lyrics and some cool artwork." |
|
Artist: SNYDER, DOUG & BOB THOMPSON Title: Daily Dance Format: LP Label: Cantor Country: Canada Price: $19.00 |
| "Daily Dance is a genuinely unique artifact from rural Ohio; a mythical frenzy of distorted guitar and improvised drums creating walls of psychedelic noise. Originally released in 1973, its sound is unparalleled for its time and precedes its closest kin, New Yorks no-wave explosion, by a solid 5 years. They generate waves of energy through cascading feedback squall and drumbo bash and shimmer. A few tracks will start with something vaguely resembling a groove, before they quickly deteriorate into their lonely Buckeye din. - Dante Carfagna. Cantor Records is proud to make Daily Dance available on vinyl for the first time in 35 years. Daily Dance was remastered from the original tapes, pressed at RTI, and is lavishly packaged with a heavy Stoughton paste-on jacket, informative Obi/U-Card, and an extensive 20-page booklet of liner notes. RIYL: Fushitshusha, Dead C, The Stooges, Velvet Underground." -Cantor. Finally available again after the now out of print 1998 CD reissue. Highly recommended! |

Artist: YA HO WHA 13 Title: God And Hair Format: 13 CD Box Set Label: Captain Trip Country: Japan Price: $120.00 |
| "2nd edition now available. No longer comes w/ the original oversize box or booklet, but priced at a much lower price. This 13 CD box set collects the complete available recordings of 70s cult rockers from CA, Ya Ho Wha 13. Led by the late Father Yod, who supposedly died in a hang-gliding accident in the late 70s(?), Ya Ho Wha 13 released numerous LPs (and at least one 8-Track) on their own Higher Key label in the mid-70s. Only distributed locally at the time, some of these have been reissued in psuedo-legit (or outright bootleg) fashion in the UK over the last decade (although more recent Swordfish releases are fully authorized), but have never been widely available. These records epitomize the insanity of highly-personalized psychedelic exploration via the fringes of rock music and its subsequent private documentation better than anything else produced by the human race to date. Tribal-acid pound from the familys key group members (Djinn, guitar; Sunflower, bass; Octavius, drums) and freakish vocal output from Yod himself, wailing away on top like the king of the universe. The exact number of of Ya Ho Wha albums has never been clearly specified until now, but this incredible box set appears to put them all in place, plus a few CDs worth of unreleased material. This new edition features a wooden box with wax seal, with the 13 discs contained in 3 plastic cases. Its not as deluxe as the original packaging (which had 13 separate jewel case editions -- but that was for "then," this is for "now." The music still represents the ultimate in the weird & insane world of private press psychedelic documentation, not to be missed. Contains the following albums: 1) FATHER YOD AND THE SPIRIT OF 76: Kohoutek (the debut release on Higher Key from 1973). 2) FATHER YOD AND THE SPIRIT OF 76: Contraction (1974). 3) FATHER YOD AND THE SPIRT OF 76: Expansion (1974). 4) FATHER YOD AND THE SPIRIT OF 76:All Or Nothing At All (1974, with 4 bonus 7" tracks). 5) YAHOWA 13 (1974, with two bonus 7" tracks). 6) YAHOWA 13: Savage Sons of Yahowa (1974). 7) YAHOWA 13: Penetration: An Aquarian Symphony (1974, the masterpiece, one of the 25 most destroyed rock records of all time for sure!). 8) YAHOWHA 13: Im Gonna Take You Home (1974, again! & and another monster record; lets not forget Gregg Breths words from the past -- after all, his copies were handed to him by wisdom: The ultimate acid album there is. Insane vocals and screaming, 100% twisted guitar and total permeated feeling of being completely fucked up! This album is the epitome of the term acid.). 9) YAHOWA 13: To The Principles For The Children (1974-75). 10) FIRE, WATER, AIR: Golden Sunrise (1977, the 8-track only release). 11) YODSHIP (undated, showed up as a UK boot/legit issue a few years ago; classic acid-folk floatation/chant from Osirus & Sunlight with the brothers and sisters). 12) VA: Related Singles (featuring Sky Saxon on most tracks). 13): VA: Unreleased Materials (jamming post-Yod psych from Djinn, Sunflower, Octavius, etc., with Sky Saxon on some tracks)." |

Artist: ZWEISTEIN Title: Trip Flip Out Meditation Format: Triple CD Label: Captain Trip Country: Japan Price: $82.00 |
| "First ever CD reissue of one of the most extreme Krautrock-era albums ever made. Originally released by Philips Germany in 1970, the triple LP edition came in an elaborate mirror sleeve and has been near-impossible to find for 35+ years; there have been a handful of suggested reissues over the years, but finally Captain Trip has brought it to fruition, in collaboration with founding member Suzanne Doucet. Incredible fold out packaging emulates the original, with front embossing and silver-foil printing on the quadruple fold-out jacket. Zweistein were a trio of Jacques Dorian, Suzanne Doucet and Diane Doucet. This perfectly done reissue (including 2 bonus tracks from their single at the end of disc 3) is heavily anticipated." - FE. "Musically, Trip, Flip Out, Meditation is largely a sound collage containing massive amounts of studio effects wizardry. Listeners are bombarded with an hour and forty-six minutes (106 minutes) worth of effects-laden voices, natural sounds, electronic effects, organ, guitar, drums and other instruments. The side-long compositions are virtually strewn together avant-garde improvisations in which anything goes. It is this fact which acts as a catch 22 and splits the Krautrock fan base into two factions. First there are those who hail the album as a masterpiece due to its avant-garde nature, wild approach, and inherent reference to a drug trip. Then there are those who pass the album off as a complete timewaster due to its evident amateur musicianship, lack of direction and avant-garde nature." - Doug Brotherton. Highly recommended! |

|
Artist: BEACH FOSSILS Title: s/t Format: LP Label: Captured Tracks Country: USA Price: $14.00 |
| "The story of Beach Fossils starts with frontman Dustin Payseur writing and recording songs for their debut self-titled LP out of his tiny Brooklyn apartment in the Fall of 2009. His recent move from North Carolina that year had left him with a sense of longing to reconnect with his past and the lush open landscape he left behind. During that year Dustin experimented with innovative methods of self-recording (using a Tascam four-track and Logic Pro) and composing. He drew his inspiration from improvisational jazz, classical and shoegaze artists, such as Anthony Braxton, pre-Stereolab project McCarthy and Giuseppe Tartini. Playing all his own instruments (keyboard, drums, bass, guitar), he soon emerged with a shimmering array of sun drenched pop songs. Dustin eventually linked creative forces with John Pena (bass), Sennott Burke (guitar) and Cole Smith (drums) who joined the band and helped collaborate on the songs Wide Awake and Gathering. The full bands immediate chemistry and unforgettable stage presence radiate with a wild, youthful-sincerity. Beach Fossils offers warm and inviting melodies that evoke the haunted sounds of another era: straightforward guitar riffs, a kaleidoscope of psychedelic rhythms, and distant, faded vocals all come together to make the perfect soundtrack to an endless summer afternoon. After hearing their demo last in the spring of 2009, Mike Sniper signed Beach Fossils to Captured Tracks." -Captured Tracks. Regular pressing. |

Artist: BLANK DOGS Title: Phrases Format: 12" Label: Captured Tracks Country: USA Price: $11.00 |
| "...Occasionally calling in collaborators from the likes of Crystal Stilts, Vivian Girls and Times New Viking, Phrases, Snipers latest EP in a long succession of vinyl-only releases, sees him going it alone for the most part. Indeed, its hard to envisage anyone else being allowed sufficient mindspace to create alongside Sniper, such is the vast propensity of ideas that fill the four tracks here. While the opening electro-tinged robotics of Heat And Depression resembles a Crystal Castles outtake, Sniper mumbling "Can you see yourself?" with surreptitious repetition over a distorted funky bassline, its on Phrases other three tracks that his more obscure influences start to take hold. Blurred Tonight takes The Cramps danse macabre schtick through the same backdoor as The Horrors managed so successfully last year, except with even more menacing vocal assertions courtesy of that man Sniper. His voice then gets the heavily reverbed treatment on Racing Backwards, a Cure-inspired number that sees the opulent Sniper make the offer "stay to the end" which becomes increasingly difficult to refuse as verse usurps chorus. Despite Blank Dogs NYC dancefloor tendencies, theres something inadvertently English about these compositions, suitably realised in the closing End Of Summer which takes Depeche Modes early Roland Jupiter-led blueprint before mashing it into a collage of post-punk ambience, beats and all..." - from Drowned In Sound. Artist: CHRISTMAS ISLAND Title: s/t Format: 7" Label: Captured Tracks Country: USA Price: $5.50 |

|
Artist: COHEN, TIM Title: Laugh Tracks Format: LP Label: Captured Tracks Country: USA Price: $14.00 |
| "As the frontman for the already prolific Fresh & Onlys, it seems impossible that theres yet even more songs coming from the well of Mr. Cohen. More surprising is that they maintain a high standard of quality. "The Two Sides of Tim Cohen" LP came and went in the blink of an eye. Recorded after his stint in Black Fiction and before his current set-up in the Fresh & Onlys, "Two Sides.." was a fresh dose of pure outsider pop with drum machines and keyboards. For a follow up, "Laugh Tracks" finds Tim in a more fleshed out full-bodied approach, complete with horn arrangements. These are personal songs from a highly gifted songwriter and were happy to make them available. Tim does his own art for all of his solo material, you can find more on: http://www.timcohen.com" - Captured Tracks. |
|
Artist: COSMETICS Title: Soft Skin Format: 7" Label: Captured Tracks Country: USA Price: $5.50 |
| "Cosmetics are a two piece from Vancouver, BC. Their music is made for dancing, and with feeling and attention to the details. Their trip is sleek and synthetic meets human emotion. Cosmic glamour meets do-it-yourself. Voice and a rhythm. Frosty tropics and hazy nites. Love on the beat. Nic M and Aja Emma formed Cosmetics in Summer 2008, the first band for both of them. In 2009 they put together the Tuff Trax 8-track studio in their home where they work on sound and visuals every day. Cosmetics is their lifestyle. "Soft Skin" is a bonechillingly cold track with an irresistable beat." - Captured Tracks. |
|
Artist: DIGNAN PORCH Title: On A Ride Format: 7" Label: Captured Tracks Country: USA Price: $5.50 |
| "A brief burst of sweetly melancholic garage pop reminding me of some mid-90s MTV vibe back when it had weird lo-fi videos in the AM that would kind of stick in your brain, or perhaps it was just me being easily susceptible at the time. Anyway, this new London band reminds me fondly of many things from the era, as well as having something of a more psychedelic Skygreen Leopards air to it. Definitely one to keep an eye out for." - Dont Die Wandering |
|
Artist: DIGNAN PORCH Title: Tendrils Format: CD Label: Captured Tracks Country: USA Price: $11.00 |
| "Slightly tussled London quartet Dignan Porch have created an unassuming, but addictive rainy-day bedroom-pop gem with Tendrils, their full-length debut. The hushed, layered, hazy and downcast psychedelia might remind you of various early New Zealand pop crews of the Flying Nun sort (slowed to 1/4 speed). Or you could go back to the UK and talk about Sarah Records, though theres often something weirder woven into the compositions. The 13 songs are brief the longest is under three minutes, a handful shorter than two but they work together as a larger patchwork. " - Stereogum. |

Artist: GERMAN MEASLES Title: Demos Sorry Format: Cass Label: Captured Tracks Country: USA Price: $8.00 |
| "Eight tracks of killer Bartlebees/Pooh Sticks-esque party pop from these Brooklyn goofballs. Strictly limited to 300 copies, this is one of the few Captured Tracks releases that will not stay in print. All 300 copies will be hand colored by the GERMAN MEASLES and their goofy friends. None of these recordings will appear on their forthcoming LP and only about half the songs will not be re-recorded for the LP. Featuring 2/4ths of CAUSE CO-MOTION! and 2/4ths of BEACHNIKS." - Captured Tracks. |
|
Artist: GERMAN MEASLES Title: Wild Format: 12" Label: Captured Tracks Country: USA Price: $12.00 |
| "Out of control, drugged up, fucked up madness from Brooklyns premiere party freaks. Almost the polar opposite of this springs cassette release - these songs are confident, insane and beautifully recorded by Gary Olson. Some sort of funky mix of The Soup Dragons, Black Randy, Protex and The Fall had they recorded for Bhudda. All the subtlety of Sonny Bono trying to barge his way into a restaurant while wearing a fur vest. Features 2/4ths of the legendary Cause Co-Motion!" - Captured Tracks. |
|
Artist: GIRLS AT DAWN Title: s/t Format: 12" Label: Captured Tracks Country: USA Price: $11.00 |
| "Right on the the heels of their debut 7" on HoZac comes this 4-song 12" EP. Drawing from post-punk, psychedelic and 60s pop influences, these three girls from Brooklyn make haunting melodies bridged with there/not-there ghostly arrangements." - Captured Tracks. |
|
Artist: GIRLS NAMES Title: Dont Let Me In Format: 12" Label: Captured Tracks Country: USA Price: $11.00 |
| "Formed in January 2009 with their first gig booked before even playing together, Belfasts Girls Names unabashedly hark back to the early/mid eighties shadow world of Beat Happening, Black Tambourine, Felt, C86 and the Sound of Young Scotland. In their short existence they have quickly honed their craft in creating their own self-styled disposable noise pop, masking subdued bittersweet vocals and melodic hooks with reverb drenched guitars and Mary Chain primal drums. Having sold out of their debut home taped demos on Cass/Flick (Belfast) last summer and after a string of support slots with the likes of Sic Alps, Wavves, Times New Viking, Lovvers and Gary War, Girls Names are set for their first release proper, with a 12" EP on Brooklyns much talked about Captured Tracks label and a full UK tour with label buddies, La La Vasquez in the spring." - Captured Tracks. |
|
Artist: GRASS WIDOW Title: s/t Format: 12" Label: Captured Tracks Country: USA Price: $11.00 |
| "Four new Grass Widow tracks including a cover of the Urinals "Black Hole." I cant gush enough about this band, but please pick up the LP on Make-A-Mess. The influence of The Moves bass sound and arrangements, 60s folk-rock vocal harmonies and the Neo Boys are present in the works, plus a whole magic power they have all their own. Thats right: magic power. Magick?" - Captured Tracks |
|
Artist: HANOI JAMES Title: Year of Panic Format: CD Label: Captured Tracks Country: USA Price: $11.00 |
| "With the obvious homage the name implies, youd expect Hanoi Janes to be a group of riot grrrl angnsty types, displaced in time by about 20 odd years. Having taken on the nickname given to Jane Fonda in the 70s because of her anti-war stance on Vietnam, these girls would be all bent up about, well you know, stuff. Youd expect that, but youd be wrong. It is in fact primarily the work of one guy from Sachen, Germany Oliver Scharf. But then Hanoi Janes album, Year of Panic, is able to inspire all kinds of misconceptions. Name of the band aside, would you expect a German guy (whos a bit handy with an eight-track) to produce a series of beautifully lo-fi, sub two-minute, surf-pop tracks, full of buzzing guitar and bubblegum spirit. Maybe maybe not. But thats just what Scharf has done. The sound is distinctly garage, reminiscent of a 70s surf sound, and like The 5. 6. 7. 8s, Hanoi Janes are able to launch into the genre with the luxury of being removed from the scene itself. Tracks like opener, The Boys Are Out and Beach Kids are unashamedly infectious, utilising catchy hooks, hand claps and the odd Ooo ooo ooo to great effect. The production is fuzzy, but that only adds to the overall charm of the album. Because charming is what it is, as Hanoi Janes have packed Year of Panic with some real gems. Summer of Panic offers something tinted with psychedelic sounds; Our Lives could have been an early track by The Strokes had they been influenced by the Californian sun rather than the New York shadows; Good Bone is a track which can only be performed if there are several oversized surf-boards nearby. Year of Panic is lo-fi, scuzzy garage surf-pop at its finest and it deserves to be the sound-track of your summer" -Bowlegs. |

Artist: HANOI JANES Title: Across The Sea Format: 7" Label: Captured Tracks Country: USA Price: $5.50 |
| "Im getting majorly sore cheeks from grinning and top tapping to these freewheelin bung pop gems from Sachsen, Germany, while being simultaneously amazed at how they explode in rich technicolour with such a full sound - fried guitar licks, cheery vocal squeaks and twinkling xylophone runs - but are largely the work of one guy named Oliver Scharf. I found Oliver through his Zac Efron-channeling solo project Male Models, but soon learnt it was just "a one afternoon project" - and that his other moniker Hanoi Janes will be used for all future musical forays, along with a couple of pals banging some drums from time to time." -Rose Quartz |

Artist: KID ROMANCE Title: Funk Punx Format: 7" Label: Captured Tracks Country: USA Price: $5.50 |
| "Two ultra-shambolic, lo-fi cuts from fresh-faced Massachusetts maniacs. This is the good stuff-dropouts, tape hiss, bad attitude and catchy songs. Packaged in an oversized envelope (a la Mayfair Set) with one of three Polaroid reproductions affixed to the front. Deluxe packaging at an economy price." - Captured Tracks. |
|
Artist: LA LA VASQUEZ Title: Hello Format: 7" Label: Captured Tracks Country: USA Price: $5.50 |
| "Get on the party train with La La Vasquez. After playing their first show at Upset The Rhythms Yes Way last year theyve run riot in in sweaty rooms up [and sometimes down] the UK matching laid-back vocal harmonies with wicked shouts. Now theyre moving on from their savage days with a melodic set of fuzzy jams that are a must hear in 2010. Au Pairs, Young Marble Giants, Bikini Kill, K Records... whatever, they love that stuff but theyre on their own track." - Captured Tracks. |

Artist: MAYFAIR SET Title: Young One Format: 12" Label: Captured Tracks Country: USA Price: $13.00 |
| "The Dum Dum Girls/Blank Dogs collaboration continues with six new spooky jams. Like the Legendary Pink Dots attacking The Primitives in an alleyway. Spooky 4ADish pop charmers. Beautiful full-color sleeve." - Captured Tracks. |
|
Artist: MINKS Title: Funeral Song Format: 7" Label: Captured Tracks Country: USA Price: $5.50 |
| "As generous a kiss-off to Summer as we could hope for, MINKS Funeral Song came virtually out of nowhere. Like if Robert Smith gave birth to a baby, and the baby was actually a cassette of Cure demos that had a lot more staying power than actual Cure demos. Ostensibly we could say this song is reactionary: abandoning the good vibes and surf jams of the warm months of 09 in favor of something colder. Rigid bass lines over icy, high-register synth whine. But the song has a lot more heart than that, so long summer time repeated endlessly until it not only makes sense, but makes frigid cold seem welcoming." - Fader |

|
Artist: SOFT HEALER Title: Gentle One Format: 7" Label: Captured Tracks Country: USA Price: $5.50 |
| "Soft Healer began in 2008 in an attempt by Marie Butcher and Will Slack to cover Suicide songs on pedal steel and clarinet. The duo swiftly failed at this and decided instead to play music with a more forgiving set-up. They began playing bass and guitar and got a drum machine; they quickly found that all attempts to reconcile the stark, percussive landscape of Colossal Youth with a Staple Singers group hug yielded something that was distinctly neither, but went with it anyway. After their first show, Soft Healer became a trio with Sara Berger joining on sax and organ. A few shows later they were an even four with Nick Decarmine playing drums. At this point the band collectively owned all of the first nine Funkadelic albums." -Captured Tracks |

Artist: SOFT MOON Title: Breathe the Fire Format: 7" Label: Captured Tracks Country: USA Price: $5.50 |
| "A group somewhat at odds with the rock and roll fairy tale town they call home, San Franciscos The Soft Moon are to release their debut 7" Breathe the Fire next week on Tally Hos favourite uber-label Captured Tracks. The single is a gem and will surely excite fans of Blank Dogs, New Order and moody 80s synth work outs." -Tally Ho! |
|
Artist: SPECTRALS Title: s/t Format: 7" Label: Captured Tracks Country: USA Price: $5.50 |
| "A young British man named L. single handedly produced this dreamy, Sonic Flower Groovy fuzz-pop stomper, although it sounds like it could have been recorded at Gold Star in 1965 for release on Creation in 1985. Two tracks, one million hooks. Were really proud to be putting this out in anticipation of a 2010 Captured Tracks LP." - Captured Tracks |

Artist: TEENAGE PANZERKORPS Title: s/t Format: 7" Label: Captured Tracks Country: USA Price: $5.50 |

|
Artist: WETDOG Title: Frauhaus! Format: LP Label: Captured Tracks Country: USA Price: $13.00 |
| "The UK-based band, composed of Billy Easter on bass, Sarah Datblygu on drums and Rivka Gillieron on vocals and guitar, excel in creating atmospheric, erratic sounds with a jaunty disregard for anything mundane . . . Wetdog count a variety of top notch influences on Frauhaus!, citing Micachu, Syd Barrett and Euros Childs, with legendary graphic novel illustrator Robert Crumb and 1979 cult British horror flick The Wicker Man also flagged, the latters flashing play between gentle pastoral and darker reveals most evident on the twittering bird song and thick, stop-start chords of Trees Fall. Though each of the albums fourteen songs has a disjointed style and rhythm of its own, they bob and weave into each other with a connecting sense of joyful weirdness, darkly irreverent rather than pretentious; menacing at times, but in a deliriously fun way. Fabulously uncompromising, its futile to attempt any generic labelling here; Wetdog delight in merging styles, setting keyboard and guitar melodies clashing gloriously against stubborn basslines, beginning songs in one manner only to change all the rules come the chorus. These helter-skelter tactics mean Frauhaus! has a kind of anarchic spontaneity to it, where the ground could shift at any moment. Its an exciting atmosphere that evokes the tumultuous ethos of The Slits, made even more potent by the darker, Halloween-style motifs of The Need, that cover the corners of their songs with spiderwebs and vampire fangs." - Captured Tracks. |
|
Artist: WETDOG Title: Lower Leg Format: 7" Label: Captured Tracks Country: USA Price: $5.50 |
| "Wetdog have a new 7" out called Lower Leg this week which is great. I immediately I get bits of The Slits and The Raincoats. Well this is far from cocks. Its great spiky pop music which sounds like its falling to bits but it somehow manages to stay in one piece relatively unscathed. Its a fantastic pop tune bursting with energy and Im already in my fifth spin... I will not leave this tune alone. Total single of the week if I ever heard one!!!" -Norman Records |

Artist: WILD NOTHING Title: Cloudbusting Format: 7" Label: Captured Tracks Country: USA Price: $5.50 |
| "Anyone who covers a Kate Bush song besides Running Up That Hill automatically gets S-Ms respect and attention, but when its one of her weirder, dreamier numbers and its somehow made even weirder and dreamier, well, those are the weeks we wish we had some kind of prize pack." -Rolling Stone. |
|
Artist: WILD NOTHING Title: Gemini Format: CD Label: Captured Tracks Country: USA Price: $11.00 |
| "Wild Nothing, is the solo-project of Jack Tatum whose music is inspired by a longtime love affair with nostalgia. His debut full length album, Gemini, set to come out on Captured Tracks this spring, is full of dreamy, carefree synth-pop songs that linger with an inexplicable sense of regret. Prior to embarking on this recent solo-project Tatum sang and played guitar with the Abe Vigodaish tropical punk band Facepaint and the singer/songwriter project Jack and The Whale. In the summer of 2009 The Virginia tech-college student decided to embark on his first creative-solo project playing bass, guitar, synthesizer and drums while recording in his home-studio. He soon emerged with a unique brand of dreamy pop-songs influenced by bands like, My Bloody Valentine, Shop Assistants, Go-Betweens and Cocteau Twins. In 2009 he delivered a memorable cover of the Kate Bush song Cloudbusting, making it clear that Wild Nothing transcended the lo-fi pop-mold. On his debut album, Gemini, Tatums frail vocals come warped in an oozing neon haze. Carefully orchestrated synth-pop arrangements, trebly guitar riffs and tattered drum machines blend together to create an intriguing, texturally rich glo-pop album that could come only from the young at heart." -Captured Tracks |
|
Artist: WILD NOTHING Title: Summer Holiday Format: 7" Label: Captured Tracks Country: USA Price: $5.50 |

Artist: V/A Title: I Dont Think the Dirt Belongs to the Grass Format: Triple CD Label: Carbon Country: USA Price: $22.00 |
| "a year+ in the making, and originally slated for a 10YR celebration, this compilation is documentation of amazing people/artists ive worked with over the past, now, 12 years. it also started out as a double CD project, but with the growing list of people i wanted to involve, and the overwhelming volume of confirmations, i had to grow it to a triple CD (and even had to do some trimming to fit that format). the release is packaged in a standard-size DVD case, with a full-color cover, and holds the 3 CDs as well as a full-color card-stock insert. the dvd case is then housed in a natural-color cotton bag with single-color ink stamp art/logo. the sounds range from quiet ambient sounds, to meandering guitar work, to outsider rock, to full on noise, as well as a folk/pop track here and there. Its a pretty good psychedelic album with an astounding, original sound based in fuzz, organ, psychedelic effects and an eerie atmosphere. Its completely sung in English as well. With remastered sound." -Cash Box |

Artist: TIMMYS ORGANISM Title: Im A Nice Guy Format: 7" Label: Cass Country: USA Price: $6.00 |
| "I used to eat garbage / now I eat steak / I used to steal from the thrift store / now I donate." In a time when babies are seemingly born with mohawks and tattoos and everything fails to shock, how does one whos embodied the punk ethos for years survive? Easy...they become nice. In the decade weve known Tim Vulgar hes responsible for a large chunk of our favorite music. "Im a Nice Guy Now" is an all-out killer. Youre either already aboard this train or have been standing at the station for years, trying to figure out what in the hell is going on. Somber b-side shows the tender touch Timmy has. We predict tears...especially from the nice guys." -Cass |

|
Artist: AXOLOTL/THE SKATERS Title: Split Format: LP Label: Catsup Plate Country: USA Price: $18.00 |
| "Both Axolotl and The Skaters (the "The" is essential, by the way) have been smoking peoples brain stems around the bay area for some time, releasing the occasional audio document that, more often than not, disappears almost immediately upon release. After cobbling together a woefully incomplete selection of their musics--both as individual entities and, on occasion, as collaborators--we knew we needed to get more of both bands stuff out to the "masses." For this split LP release (not a collaboration, mind you) we present "Holon" by Axolotl and "Bodydoor Procession" by The Skaters. Though the band has been at times a two- and three-piece, on this record Axolotl is just Karl Bauer. "Holon" is a three part suite of some of the most beautiful crush and drone youre likely to hear. Specific instrumentation is tough to nail down, though most all of the Axolotl stuff is based on violin lines, which are twisted and warped using electronics and other effects. The result nods to folks like Tony Conrad and the Theater of Eternal Music, but also evokes some of the cascading liquid drone that underpinned the more progressive shoegaze acts of the early 90s, though freed from the twee song structure and launched into the stratosphere. "Holon pt2" is a particular favorite around here, wherein Axolotl manages to create a drone piece with real soul and emotional content to it, something that most contemporary experimental acts cant seem to muster. The Skaters are Spencer Clark and James Ferraro. Their "Bodydoor Procession" begins with a vaguely east-Asian vibe, an urgent distorted piano line and a wordless vocal line that alternately sounds like moaning, choking or a prayer in a heretofore discovered language. The Skaters have always been about building up their pieces with layers of sound and initial simplicity of "Bodydoor" soon grows and mutates, grounded by an insistent (and distorted) piano, with payer upon layer of vocal cries and moans, amongst other unidentified sound sources. By the time their side concludes, almost twenty minutes later, youve either been taken to a deeply meditative and psychedelic part of inner space or been subjected to the cries of the damned in hell, depending on your taste in these things. Edition of 500 copies in generic black LP jackets with metallic gold screenprinted art and DIY-style photocopied insert." - Catsup Plate. |

Artist: BLACK DICE Title: Chocolate Cherry Format: 7" Label: Catsup Plate Country: USA Price: $7.00 |
| "Black Dices "Chocolate Cherry" seven inch comes hot on the heels of their album Repo (which is Catsup Plates favorite Black Dice record) and finds the band pushing themselves further "out" and paradoxically making some of the poppiest sounds to come from their camp in some time. If Repo was the sound of Black Dice making a funk record then "Chocolate Cherry" veers more towards soul, if you can believe that. The title track is all clipped ecstatic vocals and stuttering disco soul. "POP STD" pins a laconic guitar line and backmasked vocals onto a plodding drum line. And the record closes with the amazingly titled "Bob" which somehow merges insect like buzzing, an incessantly lazy rhythm and what this writer likes to think is a sitar drone (but probably isnt) into a piece of druggy brilliance. Silkscreened on heavy chipboard in four colors by the fine folks at VG Kids. Single edition of 500 copies only." - Catsup Plate. |
|
Artist: COPELAND, ERIC Title: Al Anon Format: LP Label: Catsup Plate Country: USA Price: $14.00 |
| "_Al Anon_ concludes Eric Copelands two part album entitled _Alien In A Garbage Dump_. Where the first half offered a discombobulated collection of radio cross-signaling, here the alien finds its groove for a minute and tidies up the frequencies. There is still something outsiderish here, but with more of an effort to get inside, to play by the rules even? Or maybe the motivation is to sneak something subversive into the norms hideout? Since _Al Anon_ was recorded at the same time as two Black Dice albums, there are obvious parallels in the results; an uncompromised sonic landscape. But outside the group setting, Copeland has found places one can only find alone: small inner dialogues and isolated mind caves where an idea may only last a moment. He captures and tweaks these ideas into fragments of many memories; a déjà vu record déjà vu record. Funny characters drop in and out. Songs come and go. Al Anon proves to be a strangely curated time capsule of OUR time right NOW; music where birds beat-box with car-stereo subwoofers and the neighbors Espanol sings on top the Sabbath siren. With all this going on, Copeland sometimes disappears into the anonymity, playing a behind-the-scenes role, pushing cords and pulling buttons, laughing because the batteries are dying. Here the familiar becomes mysterious and the unknown feels normal and we can listen to this one all day trying to make those distinctions. Edition of 500 copies with jaw-droppingly amazing black and white collage artwork by Copeland, screenprinted by VG Kids." - Catsup Plate. Eric Copeland = 1/3 of BLACK DICE. |

Artist: DOUBLE, THE Title: Palm Fronds Format: CD Label: Catsup Plate Country: USA Price: $12.00 |
| "The Double that you hear on Palm Fronds is very different than what founding members David Greenhill and Jeff McLeod originally conceived. The band began as a guitar/drum math-rock-cum-outre-blues duo replete with intricate time signatures, multiple song sections, and an overall sense of angular complexity. After time, the two decided to focus on simplified musical structures and a more fleshed-out instrumentation and added two new members, Donald Beaman and Jacob Morris. But prior to recording what would be called Palm Fronds, Jeff hurt his handpreventing him from drumming while it healed. Instead of postponing the recording, the band opted regroup and reconceive of the songs without the traditional drum kit. They experimented with drum machines and other electronic textures, learning as they went along. Mistakes that sounded good were left in (the band has a deep respect for Enos approach to music making a la Oblique Strategies, etc.) and discoveries used in one song influenced the sound palette in the others. The songs quickly took on a unique sound that was reminiscent ofbut ultimately distinct fromthe bands live shows. Because of this, Palm Fronds is a compelling listen on a number of levels. The songs themselves could be described as singer-songwriter in scope; I hear echoes of mid-to-late period Smog and even Horse With No Name-era America (especially on Standing on a Levee, though some folks disagree). But the production, drum machines, and general vibe have a wonderfully overmodulated digital crunch, plenty of echo, broken electronics and all sorts of whatsit thrown into the mix. Which is to say that all that songwriter stuff, when The Double finally let you hear it, owes a lot to a bunch of digital dub and experimental electronic types. But through all this Palm Fronds has an impeccable balance; the production never overwhelms or obscures the essential song. So with Palm Fronds youve got ear candy AND brain candy when you get right down to itlucky you." - Catsup Plate. |

Artist: FRENCH PADDLEBOAT Title: Rome Loves Tan Format: LP Label: Catsup Plate Country: USA Price: $11.00 |
| "Rome Loves Tan," though just now getting a vinyl release, was originally released in 1996 as a small-edition cassette on the esteemed Union Pole label. F.P. was never quite happy with some of the idiosyncrasies of the record, but later Paddleboat recordings and his work as one-half of Vote Robot commanded his attention and the songs were left as-is until now. This new version of Rome represents a more fully realized vision than the original tape did: F.P. tightened up and reworked the songs and loops. One song was replaced with a more fully realized piece ("Indication of Motion," track 3, side 2). In a sense, this version offers insight into both the earlier work of French Paddleboat, as well as what hes up to now. Edition of 300 copies in "paint-by-number" silkscreened jackets." - Catsup Plate. |

Artist: JOYNER, SIMON & DENNIS CALLACI Title: Stranger Blues Format: One Sided LP Label: Catsup Plate Country: USA Price: $10.00 |
| "Dennis Callaci and Simon Joyner are two of the foremost channelers of "the song." Simon is known for his solo recordings, with releases on Jagjaguwar, Truckstop, Shrimper, and Sing Eunuchs!, among others. Dennis plays in Refrigerator and was the sole voice behind the criminally underheard Paste. They are singer-songwriters in that they write songs and sing them, but that appellation dumbs down and sanitizes what they do. I think it is more accurate to say that both have a way of tapping into the stream of collective creativity that flows from God-knows-when through to the present and beyond. Their songs have a gravity to them, an old soul, as it were, that cannot be mistaken. There are a few stylistic precursors to their work -- precursors that have been well-documented previously -- but the songs they write and sing tap into something more ineffable, timeless, and grave. The Stranger Blues set comprises three of Simons songs and two by Dennis, all recorded live in the Callaci living room to what seems to be a single microphone. The nontraditional (or better: non-studio) setting adds a palpable sensation of space to the recordings -- by space I do not simply mean the warmth of the room tone, but actual space: backing vocals and spare piano or guitar lines arise in such a way that you are aware of the physical geography of the room. You can hear Simon singing along with Dennis from an actual distance away; his voice is (literally) distant and all the more forlorn. The guitar lines that Dennis adds to flesh-out Simons songs have the same eerie effect. This sense of space underscores two seemingly contradictory strengths about Stranger Blues. On one hand, these songs are beautifully lonely and spare, highlighted by the echoes and distance in the room. At the same time, it is clear that two songwriters who know and love the others work, who are very much working in tandem to build upon each others strengths. Single edition of 500 one-sided LPs. Silkscreened and hand assembled chipboard jackets in a "traditional" Catsup Plate brown butchers tape design scheme." - Catsup Plate. |

Artist: SMITH, STEVEN R. Title: Crown of Marches Format: CD Label: Catsup Plate Country: USA Price: $14.00 |
| "Steven R. Smith is best known for his participation in Thuja and Hala Strana as well as his contribution to many Jewelled Antler projects. In the spirit of Keiji Haino, Popol Vuh, Dead C, and Flying Saucer Attack, Crown of Marches takes the possibilities of the basement psychedelic guitar excursion and fashions something very new and inspiring - a piece alternately beautiful and overwhelming. Crown of Marches begins with a low rumble of feedback and speaker hum; a lazy Eastern melody pokes through the haze and establishes a strong contrast with the rumbling. This is the basis upon which the piece will expand and contract over the next 40 minutes. At times the feedback rumble drops away and relatively bright guitar lines come to the fore. At other times faint keyboard lines or bowed cymbals add texture and additional gravitas to the proceedings, only to be pushed away with the wail of distant guitars and more distortion - like the heaviest rock with the skeleton removed." - Catsup Plate. |

Artist: SHE Title: Outta Reach Format: LP Label: Causeway Records Country: Price: $16.00 |
| "She were an all-girl band from Sacramento, California, that operated between 1964 and 1971 and were led by sisters Nancy and Sally Ross. Unlike most acts ascribed to the "girls-with-guitars" genre, She was one hundred per cent authentic - they genuinely played their own instruments, sang and wrote their own striking but original material and copped one hell of a bad attitude that would put most self-proclaimed rebel boy bands to shame. Appealingly crude in their early incarnation as the Hairem, by their later years She was a force to be reckoned with. The group became a massively popular live attraction in northern California but unfortunately never made a commercial breakthrough, despite healthy airplay for their lone release on the Kent label, the classic Outta Reach. Far, far more than a mere novelty, musically and philosophically She were in a class of their own, with drop-dead good looks and such memorable tunes as Like A Snake, Piece Of You and Bad Girl. And indeed She were bad girls, getting thrown out of movie theatres and even the California State Capitol building for their disruptive behaviour and smart-ass punk attitude. Truly the female equivalent of the Stones." B Side features recordings as The Hairem. Limited.. |

Artist: LENS CLEANER TRIO Title: CD + Lenscleaner Format: LP Label: Ceiling Country: ARGENTINA Price: $15.00 |
| "This LP started out as a recording of an improvised by Jose Marchi (guitar), Marcelo Aguirre (drums). and C.D. (electronics). After which C.D. took the recordings disassembled them and constructed new sound shapes from the various pieces. C.D. calls the resultant sound "electro-acoustic rock". Early tracks on side A are faithful to the original recordings; strange polymorphous jams featuring nimble but muscular drumming, and a large vocabulary of guitar scrapes and molten distortion. But soon we start to hear the tracks fold into themselves, the sense of time and space distorting as if some powerful psychotropic drug is starting to kick in. Emerging from these folds in space, the listener enters new locations; guitars that echo like chimes through radio static into places both soothing and menacing, organic and manufactured- a deeply ambient space, yet jagged as broken glass." - The Ceiling. |

Artist: SESKIND, SCOTT Title: Chance Format: Cass Label: Chance Country: USA Price: $11.00 |
| "..impressively captivating and moving collection of four-tracked bedroom folk of the highest order, with an out-of-time vibe that didnt really snyc with its 1984 recording date. Definitely on the loner-ish end of the folk spectrum, with some aspects of the album harkening back to Skip Spences iconic Oar, while other moments revealed the urgency of the 80s lo-fi revolution. But most importantly, the songs were just really, really great and managed to remain haunting long past their leaving." - Michael Klausman (regarding his self titled debut LP). Original sealed copies of his 1991 private cassette, the only release after the 1985 LP, which is somewhat "known" amongst folk/psych/private collectors (and mentioned in Acid Archives despite the later date). These recordings arent quite as desolate and are more "lo-fi" than the LP, but still warrant repeated listens. |

Artist: PRAN NATH, PANDIT Title: Earth Groove: The Voice Of Cosmic India Format: LP Label: Change Country: USA Price: $17.00 |

Classic, late 60s performance by the master of Indian vocal music. Two sidelong pieces grace this record. A morning raga and an evening raga. Vocals with sitar and tabla accompaniment. Not easy listening by any means, but rewarding in the end." -Change |

Artist: DANNY & THE PARKINS SISTERS Title: S/T Format: CD Label: Chapter Country: Australia Price: $16.00 |
| "Chapter Music is proud to resurrect from undeserved obscurity the scratchy beatnik art-punk stylings of early-80s San Francisco trio Danny & The Parkins Sisters. Surrounded by the classic SF punk sounds of the Dead Kennedys, Pink Section, Flipper and the like, Danny & the Parkins Sisters opted instead to head in a very different direction. Brash Arizona transplant Danny Vinik and chic, alluring sisters Debra and Beverly Parkins strummed on detuned guitars, banged on whatever was close at hand, and declaimed hilarious, incisive lyrics dissecting the scenes and tribes around them in visceral early-80s San Francisco. Their high-performance shows played out in legendary venues such as the Sound Of Music and Club Generic, with guests including Dead Kennedys drummer DH Peligro. In 1982, the band released an 8-song mini-album on the Modern Masters label, run by Richard Kelly of the cabaret collective Club Foot Orchestra. It included the all-time shoulda-beena classic, "War (Is On Your Doorstep)," a pounding, tribal punk-chant that sums up all the paranoia and posturing of the post-punk era. By 1983, the band were over, with Danny heading to South America and the Parkins sisters to New York, but their brief SF moment shone with a peculiar, musically naive but still knowing charm. Fans of angular post-punk luminaries like the Bush Tetras, The Raincoats or Y Pants will love this CD, which comes filled with bonus demo, live and rehearsal recordings." -Chapter |

Artist: FABULOUS DIAMONDS Title: Fabulous Diamonds II Format: CD Label: Chapter Country: Australia Price: $16.00 |
| "This is the second album by Melbourne duo Fabulous Diamonds. This odd duo makes overtly hypnotic music, full of lulling, sensual repetition, but theres also an edge of irritation, an undercurrent of friction that cuts through the drone and propels the songs forward. Fabulous Diamonds II begins with drummer/vocalist Nisa Venerosa yelling at keyboardist Jarrod Zlatic, as he counts in the first track, but they still start together in perfect unison. Its this combination of tension and intuitive understanding that makes Fabulous Diamonds so special. They have been playing and arguing together for more than five years now, and their musical bond has grown deeper and more expansive since their 2008 self-titled debut. That album made it into revered UK mag The Wires top albums of the year, and got glowing reviews from the likes of Pitchfork and The Fader. But this new record is still a remarkable development. Of its five untitled tracks, two extend well past the ten-minute mark, sustaining a kind of grumpy intensity that never lags. The album was recorded with budding producer Mikey Young of Eddy Current Suppression Ring, and was mastered by Quas Cornel Wilczek. Like their first album, it will be released on vinyl by venerable U.S. label Siltbreeze. Fabulous Diamonds toured the U.S. in 2008 with Times New Viking and Psychedelic Horseshit, playing 26 dates in one month. In 2009, they were invited to perform at Belgiums Kraak Festival alongside Wavves, Kurt Vile and others. They also played in the UK, Holland, France, Switzerland, Portugal and Sweden on their 2009 European tour. In Australia, the band have played with Deerhunter, Yeasayer, Akron Family, Beach House, and many more." -Chapter |

Artist: TULLY Title: Live At Sydney Town Hall, 1969-70 Format: CD Label: Chapter Country: Australia Price: $16.00 |
| "Chapter Music presents two rare live recordings from quintessential Sydney prog group Tully, including their 1970 performance of Australias first-ever rock opera. These recordings capture the band in their first incarnation, before they joined forces with members of revered folk-psych band Extradition to explore more contemplative territory. Formed in late 1968, Tully The First were wild, expansive and unpredictable, their live shows now the stuff of legend. Terry Wilson (vocals), Richard Lockwood (reeds), Michael Carlos (organ), John Blake (bass) and Robert Taylor (drums) employed extended improvisation, spacious dynamics and an intuitive intensity, so impressing Australian jazz icon John Sangster that he called them "the best band in the world at the time." In mid 69, Tully became the house band for love-rock musical Hair, recording the original cast album later that year. They also starred in a six-part live-in-studio series Fusions, which premiered on ABC TV in August 1969. "Sights & Sounds Of 69," from a May show of the same name, is the only live Tully recording to have survived the intervening four decades, and documents a typically far-ranging, mind-expanding performance. Ken Firth (later of the Ferrets) replaced John Blake on bass in December 1969. Perhaps Australias greatest living composer, Peter Sculthorpe wrote "Love 200" specifically with Tully and vocalist Jeannie Lewis in mind. The work, commemorating Captain Cooks expedition to map the Transit Of Venus in 1769, was dismissed by the stuffy classical establishment at the time, but Sculthorpe now calls it simply "one of my best works." Heard here for the first time since the early 70s, "Love 200" is an astounding piece, both elegant and jarring, serene and chaotic. After Tullys 1970 self-titled debut, Wilson and Taylor left the band, which then assimilated Extraditions Shayna Stewart and Colin Campbell before releasing two more albums, Sea Of Joy (1971) and Loving Is Hard (1972), both markedly different from their fiery and often thunderous early form. Live At Sydney Town Hall, 1969-70 is a fascinating insight into the early work of one of Australias most heralded, but least-heard bands." -Chapter |

Artist: BLOOM & LOREN CONNORS, KATH Title: Sing The Children Over/Sand In My Shoe Format: Double CD Label: Chapter Music Country: Australia Price: $18.00 |
| "Originally released by Chapter Music in 2008, this is the first of two double disc reissues by extraordinary early-80s folk duo Kath Bloom and Loren Connors. Meeting in 1976 in their hometown of New Haven, CT, Bloom and Connors formed a creative partnership that has haunted psych-folk fans ever since, releasing six albums of fragile, avant-garde folk-blues in miniscule quantities, all of which now change hands for huge sums. At first, Kath would act out monologues while Loren played his free-form guitar, extrapolated from Mississippi Delta and Chicago blues. But while Loren worked on his now-legendary nine-volume series Unaccompanied Acoustic Guitar Improvisations, he and Kaths performances gradually became more song-based. Kath began practicing guitar among the headstones of New Havens Grove Street cemetery, while Lorens idiosyncratic style had been developing since the 1960s. By the early 80s, after self-releasing two limited-edition live albums, the duo were playing occasionally outside of New Haven, and soon Boston independent label Ambiguous Records approached them to record their first studio effort. Acclaimed jazz critic and music historian Nat Hentoff wrote sensitive, insightful liner notes and Sing The Children Over emerged in 1982 and Sand In My Shoe in 1983. The albums mixed traditional folk and blues songs with Kaths originals, revealing Kath to be an accomplished and moving songwriter. It also set up the dynamic template that she and Loren would follow over their remaining recordings -- Kaths fragile voice and subdued finger-picked guitar set against Lorens playing: abstract, skittering, sometimes atonal but always intuitively supportive. Together the duo created a sound almost impossibly emotional and haunting, one unlike anything created before or since. By 1984, however, Kath was married with a young son, and Connors himself was entering a new relationship, so the duo found themselves drifting apart. And now, after almost 25 years, these original recordings are again available to be soaked up, marveled at and relished. Completely remastered, and containing extensive liner notes, original photos and artwork, and a treasure trove of bonus tracks." -Chapter |

Artist: BLOOM, KATH Title: Finally Format: CD Label: Chapter Music Country: Australia Price: $15.00 |
| "Kath Bloom is a fifty year old American legend of folk, country, blues and avant-garde music, but very few people have ever heard of her. She has been making records since the late 70s, and has had her music featured in the movie Before Sunrise by Richard Linklater (starring Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy), but since 1984 has released no new material of her own bar a few self-distributed cassettes and CD-Rs. The daughter of world-renowned oboist Robert Bloom, Kath was born and raised in New Haven, Connecticut, where she trained as a cellist. However, she soon gave away formal musical education for the acoustic guitar, which she taught herself over long afternoons spent among the tombstones of her local cemetery. After a brief romance and musical collaboration with journeyman songwriter Bruce Neumann, she met avant-garde guitarist Loren Mazzacane Connors in 1976, teaming up with him for a series of now highly sought-after recordings of traditional blues and folk songs and Blooms originals. Some records were released in editions of as few as fifty, most no more than 200 copies, until the duo released their swansong Moonlight in 1984. While Connors astounding solo work from that time has been compiled into a four CD set by Sonic Youths Thurston Moore, Bloom and Mazzacanes duo recordings still languish in un-re-released obscurity, except for a single CD compilation that is now almost as hard to find as the original LPs. Although Chapter Music, unfortunately, cannot help in that regard, it can present a compilation of Kath Blooms heartbreaking, lovelorn and remarkably beautiful songs recorded since the early 90s, when after a period of child-rearing, family life and daily financial struggle, Kath began to return to the studio. These are songs recorded on the fly in friends lounge rooms or cut-rate studios, but they reveal a mother-of-three songwriter as accomplished and affecting as any of her more hallowed colleagues such as Lucinda Williams, Gillian Welch or Hazel Dickens. In the mid-nineties US director Richard Linklater stumbled across her music and used the song Come Here in Before Sunrise, but despite an initial flurry of interest, little came of the exposure and Kath soon returned to domestic obscurity. Ten years later, perhaps Kath Blooms moment has finally come, and one of the best singer/ songwriters of the last 25 years will be accorded some long-overdue recognition." - Chapter Music. |

Artist: ESSENDON AIRPORT Title: Sonic Investigations If The Trivial Format: CD Label: Chapter Music Country: Australia Price: $19.00 |
| "The band Essendon Airport began in Melbourne, 1978, as a duo of David Chesworth (keyboards and electronics), and Robert Goodge (guitar). They released an incredible 7" EP in 1979 called Sonic Investigations Of The Trivial, on Innocent Records, a label run by David Chesworth with Tch Tch Tchs Philip Brophy. A track from this EP was recently included on Chapters Cant Stop It! - Australian Post-Punk 1978-82 compilation CD. In 1980 they released a 7" single accompanied by a singer named Anne Cessna. They also had a track included on the Innocent compilation New Music 1978-79. Essendon Airport later gained extra members and released the Palimpsest LP in 1981. They broke up in 1983... Chapter Music has gathered together Essendon Airports duo recordings onto one CD, along with the Anne Cessna tracks, and five previously unheard live recordings. Sonic Investigations Of The Trivial is a fantastic document of a band years ahead of their times. The reissue features liner notes written by Ralph Traviato of Tch Tch Tch, as well as reproductions of original posters, record sleeves, press clippings and even chewing gum cards given out at their shows." - Chapter Music. |

Artist: KANENOBU, SACHIKO Title: Misora Format: CD Label: Chapter Music Country: Australia Price: $16.00 |
| "Originally reissued in 2006 by Chapter Music, this is the 1972 debut album by Sachiko Kanenobu, an artist generally acknowledged as the first Japanese woman to release an album of her own songwriting. Its a near-perfect folk masterpiece, alternating full-bodied arrangements (produced by Harry Hosono of Yellow Magic Orchestra and Happy End) with Sachikos lonesome guitar and pure, soaring vocals. Discovered as a precocious 18 year-old in Osaka, Sachiko was signed in 1968 to Japans first real independent record label, URC (Underground Record Club), who changed Japans musical landscape irrevocably in the late 60s and early 70s with artists like Happy End, Folk Crusaders and Kenji Endo. Sachiko was the only female artist on this era-defining label. But just a few months before Misora (roughly translated as "Beautiful Sky") was released, Sachiko left Japan and secretly emigrated to America to marry music critic Paul Williams (Crawdaddy, Rolling Stone). She did not record again for almost a decade and didnt release another album until 1992. Instead, she settled with Williams in small-town California and raised two sons. Misora was released in her absence and promptly disappeared. World-renowned science fiction writer Philip K Dick, a Williams family friend, actually encouraged Sachiko to return to music in the early 80s. He was executive producer for a single recorded in 1981, but sadly died before he could realize his ambition to produce Sachikos comeback album. Still, Sachiko was inspired by his encouragement to reinvent herself as a "folk-punk" singer, forming new band Culture Shock in the mid-80s. Sachiko still performs to this day, and since Misora was rediscovered by Japanese fans in the early 90s, she has returned to her homeland many times to perform. Misora is now regarded as a landmark in Japanese musical history, and Sachiko is revered there as a true underground folk pioneer. Truly mellow, still relevant, and sounding as fresh as the day it was recorded, Chapter Musics edition of Misora is the first for the English-speaking world, featuring extensive liner notes, lyrics translated into English by Sachiko herself, and never-before-seen photos from the singers own archives." -Chapter |

Artist: MAHER SHALAL HASH BAZ Title: Live Aoiheya January 2003 Format: CD EP Label: Chapter Music Country: Australia Price: $12.00 |
| "Maher Shalal Hash Baz is the oddly-named band for Japanese cult figure Tori Kudo and his wife Reiko (the name is apparently a Hebrew biblical phrase that Tori translates as be quick if you mean to steal something). Since the late 1970s, Tori has been a pioneering figure in Japanese punk, post-punk and avant-garde circles, beginning with bands such as GuysnDolls, Cock CNell, Noise and Tokyo Suicide (a cover band dedicated to New York synth-punk pioneers Suicide). Tori formed Maher Shalal Hash Baz in the mid 80s with neighbours who could not play any instruments, and for the better part of 20 years has been pursuing a single-minded vision of music as simple, spontaneous and unpredictable. The bands always changing lineup of anywhere from three to thirty people features mostly untrained musicians playing music often shown to them on the day of its performance, expressing the innate beauty of failure as much as of success. The band began releasing records in 1989, but did not come to worldwide attention until a decade later, when their marvelously ambitious triple album Return Visit To Rock Mass was released. MSHB were invited to tour outside of Japan for the first time. In 1999, when UK label Geographic released From A Summer To Another Summer, a compilation of Maher recordings. Soon the band were touring the US and Europe regularly, and Geographic released their most recent album Blues Du Jour in 2003. Live Aoiheya January 2003 documents an entire brief performance by this unique band, incidentally the first Maher show that Chapter boss Guy Blackman saw after moving to live in Japan in 2002 (he returned to Melbourne in 2004). It captures the band in a variety of guises unusual even for them, including an extended abstract instrumental, songs based on conversations between band members, passages by Japanese composers, vocal relays and a Brahms Waltz. In the EPs 26 minutes Maher Shalal Hash Baz manage to cover more ground than most bands do in their whole career, all the while maintaining a spirit and idiosyncracy that is idenitifiably their own." - Chapter Music. |

Artist: PRIMITIVE CALCULATORS Title: Primitive Calculators Format: CD Label: Chapter Music Country: Australia Price: $16.00 |
| "Melbournes Primitive Calculators met as teenagers in the early 70s, growing up in the grim outer suburb of Springvale. An older friend who lived in a bungalow behind his parents house provided an oasis of culture, and there they were introduced to music of a kind rarely heard in their neighbourhood. The Velvet Underground and The MC5 were obvious heroes, but they were also inspired by lesser known bands like The Fugs, The 13th Floor Elevators, and The Godz (they went on to dedicate their album to Godz singer Jim McCarthy) as well as the writing of obsessive rock journalist Lester Bangs. By 1977, they had deserted Springvale for the more musically liberated environs of St. Kilda, sharing a house in Park St and forming a band called The Moths. But they were a couple of years older than most of the punk bands starting up around them, and their uncultured accents clashed with the inner city, private school values of their so-called peers. Well-known figures like Nick Cave (The Boys Next Door, The Birthday Party) and Ollie Olsen (Whirlywirld) would often come by to listen to borrow records, but the Primitive Calculators were always outsiders in Melbournes punk scene. A move to Fitzroy in 1978 helped Primitive Calculators cement their own identity and develop a network of likeminded friends. The band set up a series of gigs called Little Band nights, where up to ten hastily-formed bands, with names like Too Fat To Fit Through The Door and Thrush & The Cunts, would play sets of fifteen minutes each. Their own debut single was also released that year, featuring the songs ??I Cant Stop It? and ??Do That Dance?. Pressed with plain black labels and stark monochrome sleeve, the single introduced many to the impassioned, atonal, electronic chaos that was the Primitive Calculators trademark, and it has gone on to become a highly collectable classic of Australian post-punk. The following year the band attempted to relocate to London, but seeing how difficult life was for fellow expats the Birthday Party and Whirlywirld, hey decided instead to take an indefinite break. A 1979 live recording of a gig supporting The Boys Next Door turned out to be the Primitive Calculators swansong. Released by friend and supporter Alan Bamford in the early 1980s, Primitive Calculators is a crucial document of a band whose originality, power and humorously belligerent Australian mindset has never since been duplicated. But the story didnt end there, as the Primitive Calculators had an unexpected renaissance in 1986, when filmmaker Richard Lowenstein included them in his feature Dogs In Space (starring a young Michael Hutchence). The Primitive Calculators reformed to appear in the movie and recorded their song ??Pumping Ugly Muscle? for the soundtrack (the song was also released as a 12? with some original late 70s recordings on the B-side). The Primitive Calculators revival continued a good fifteen years later when Chapter Music released the pioneering Cant Stop It! compilation CD of Australian late 70s/early 80s post-punk. The CD took its name from the Primitive Calculators track ??I Cant Stop It!? and included an original 1979 recording of ??Pumping Ugly Muscle?. Chapter Musics reissue of the Primitive Calculators album, twenty-five years after its original release, includes six bonus tracks (four by the Primitive Calculators, one by the Moths and one by a nameless Primitive Calculators/Whirlywirld hybrid band, recorded in the UK) plus a rarely seen video made for the ??I Cant Stop It? single by band friend Janis Lesinskis." - Chapter Music. Artist: PRIMITIVE CALCULATORS Title: Primitive Calculators And Friends 1979-82 Format: CD Label: Chapter Music Country: Australia Price: $16.00 |
| "After reissuing the landmark 1979 live album by Melbournes ferocious synth-punk snarlers Primitive Calculators in late 2004, Chapter Music follows up with a crucial compilation of tracks by Primitive Calculators and their friends from the legendary Melbourne Little Band scene. Including the Calculators only studio recording, the single I Cant Stop It b/w Do That Dance, plus the Little Bands compilation EP (both originally released in 1979 and now highly prized collectors items), plus numerous live and rehearsal recordings, the CD examines a particularly fertile and distinctive time in Melbourne music history, which has been discussed in hushed tones ever since. It takes in bands with names like Thrush And The Cunts and Too Fat To Fit Through The Door, and ranges from disaffected Fitzroy art-punk to Sudanese tribal chanting recorded in London. With liner notes culled from a revealing interview with Prim Calcs members Dave Light, Denise Hilton and Frank Lovece, plus rare photos and song lyrics, Primitive Caluclators And Friends is a revelatory companion piece to their live album, which received a rave review from Maximum RocknRoll and a 10 out of 10 Album of the Month feature in Australian Vice Magazine, amongst other stellar reviews on its reissue two years ago." - Chapter Music. Artist: TENNISCOATS Title: Live Wanderus Format: CD Label: Chapter Music Country: Australia Price: $15.00 |
| "Tokyos Tenniscoats centre around the duo of Saya and Taskashi Ueno, a married couple who have been making music since 2000, and together run the highly regarded Japanese label Majikick Records. In that time, Tenniscoats have released three studio recordings, 2001s Theme Of Tenniscoats, 2002s The Ending Theme and 2004s We Are Everyone. Although each of those records is a fine, fine work, many Tenniscoats fans say that the bands meditative intensity has never quite been captured in the studio. It is for this reason that Chapter Music is releasing a compilation of their live work. Live Wanderus (named in Sayas imaginative English to reflect the words Wander, Wonder, Wondrous and Us) presents songs from each Tenniscoats release in distinctive new forms, as well as a number of previously unreleased tracks. It presents the band in its many shifting lineups, and includes collaborations with members of revered Japanese bands Acid Mothers Temple, Stars and Maher Shalal Hash Baz. Tenniscoats are a combination of hummable melody and a kind of innocent darkness, their unashamed fragility set against a restrained power that at times can explode into a psychedelic free-for-all." - Chapter Music. |

Artist: V/A Title: Cant Stop It - Australian Post-Punk 1978-82 Format: CD Label: Chapter Music Country: USA Price: $18.00 |
| A long overdue compilation of Australias incredible post-punk history, featuring the finest selection of bands from the period 1978-82, with many previously unreleased tracks. This is a fantastically inventive and dynamic time in Australian music history, a time when Australia stepped out of the shadow of overseas influence and asserted its own musical identity for the first time. All of the bands on Cant Stop It! released their music independently, either themselves or through the handful of visionary labels of the time such as Au-go-go, M Squared, Missing Link or Innocent Records. Unfortunately much of the music has since been ignored or forgotten ... until now! Restock/repress of this incredibly well done, indepth and legit comp (which has since received a full page write up in the WIRE) of the elusive Australian scene. Features The Moodists, Voigt 465, The Take, Essendon Airport, The Apartments, Ash Wednesday, Primitive Calculators, Makers Of The Dead Travel Fast, Ron Rude, Xero, The Limp, Fabulous Marquises, The Slugfuckers, Equal Local, Tame Omearas, The Particles, People With Chairs Up Their Noses, Wild West, The Pits and Tch Tch Tch. Artist: V/A Title: Songs For Nao - 14 Bands From Japan Format: CD Label: Chapter Music Country: Australia Price: $15.00 |
| "Songs for Nao (pronounced "now") is a compilation featuring many incredible Japanese artists... Most work in a rarefied world of wide-eyed, folky psych-pop. Songs For Nao includes new tracks by Maher Shalal Hash Baz, Nagisa Ni Te, Tenniscoats, Kazumi Nikaidoh, Yumbo, Andersens, My Pal Foot Foot, Pervenche and more. Songs For Nao is a taste of an incredible music scene. Isolated from the music industry at large, these artists create genuinely inspired music, fresh even to the ears of the most conditioned music-geek. The release is accompanied by a full colour, 16-page booklet featuring extensive liner notes on each band, and beautiful photos by Eigo Shimojo (a member of Eepil Eepil, one of the bands on the compilation)." - Chapter Music. "I moved to Tokyo in September 2002 in search of new experiences, and ended up staying for a year and a half. I worked teaching English part-time at one of the big chain schools in Japan, which was neither here nor there, but when I wasnt working I was going to as many gigs as I could. I already had a couple of Japanese friends before I got there, and through them I was introduced to all these amazing bands, playing in tiny shoebox venues to audiences of usually about 50 people. Most of the best bands I saw seemed to be connected in one way or another to a record label called Majikick, run by Ueno and Saya, the husband and wife team from the band Tenniscoats. They were like the Prince and Princess of this small, vibrant scene, which was built on ideas about freedom, improvisation, fragile melodies and a kind of drug-free psychedelia. The most amazing thing about bands like Tenniscoats, Maher Shalal Hash Baz, Andersens and My Pal Foot Foot is how they would sound totally different almost every time you saw them. They always had different lineups and instrumentation and played a completely new set at almost every gig. I couldnt understand how they could all write these incredible songs and then just throw them away and write new ones! Most of the bands had a CD or two on Majikick, or at least a CD-R that they would sell at gigs, and I bought whatever I could get my hands on. I listened to these CDs constantly in my little apartment, and maybe it was just being in a different country, not having my all my records and CDs with me, but it was the first time in years that I could just listen over and over to the same music, and find more to love each time. Apart from Nagisa Ni Te and Maher Shalal Hash Baz, who have had some records released in the US and the UK, it seemed like no-one outside Japan had any idea about these bands that I thought were just incredible. So it seemed like a great idea to put together a compilation, and Songs For Nao is what I came up with. I thought of the title because Nao is the name of two of the sweetest people I met in Japan - one a boy, one a girl - and they both play in bands on the CD." - Guy Blackman; Chapter Music. |

Really awesome/dynamic electronics+sound poetry, nice use of quiet parts and hiss. You may know Kelvin as "the black guy in the Portland Bike Ensemble", but also he is the most talented/interesting saxaphone free improviser in Portland. If you were to try to sell me a tape and tell me it was a dude sitting in your living room playing a sax, I would say no fucking thanks (dont really care for the instrument in most cases). Kelvin is the immaculate exception, trust me. Edition of 98. " - Cherried-Out Merch. |

Artist: FIVE OR SIX Title: Acting On Impulse Format: CD Label: Cherry Red Country: UK Price: $18.00 |
| "A timely retrospective of one of the less heralded groups of the classic Cherry Red era of the early eighties but one in whom interest is growing. Musically akin to such contemporaries as Wire and This Heat, Five or Six had the distinction of providing the opening track (Portrait) to Cherry Red¹s historic Pillows and Prayers compilation and this little masterpiece is duly featured on this Best Of collection. Also featured are such stellar singles as Another Reason (produced by the late and very legendary Kevin Coyne) and Polar Exposure and also the outstanding cuts from their impossibly rare and greatly sought after Spanish import album, Play Me That Song That Goes Yeah, Yeah, Yeah. After the group disbanded, its members went on to a multifarious range of artistic occupations, such as members of Spring Heel Jack, the Shock Headed Peters, at Factory Records and 4AD Records and in the drama department of the BBC." - Cherry Red |

Artist: STACK WADDY Title: s/t Format: CD Label: Cherry Red Country: UK Price: $18.00 |
| "Cherry Red is delighted to announce the release of another classic album from John Peels Dandelion Records catalogue, 1971s self-titled Stack Waddy, a raucous four-piece from Manchester. Peel had first seen the band at the Buxton Blues Festival in September 1969. Their performance made a big impression, and a first single, Kentucky/Roadrunner, was released just under a year later in August 1970, they soon became Peels favorite band on the label. Raw, rockin power bottled in 1971 and unleashed again here! On stage they were loud, aggressive, fairly pissed and remarkably unsubtle, as befitted musicians who were often forced to supplement their meager gig money by working days on construction sites. Their frustrations and energies were poured into music that it was impossible to ignore. In fact, you were better off not to try to ignore it because one of the many Stack Waddy atrocity stories has John Knail (lead singer) jumping off-stage to beat to the floor a man who was paying more attention to his lady than to the band. As the late John Peel OBE said Stackwaddy were absolutely incorrigible, everything a rock n roll band should be." - Cherry Red |

Artist: TEENAGE JESUS & THE JERKS Title: Shut Up and Bleed Format: CD Label: Cherry Red Country: UK Price: $18.00 |
| "The seminal no-wave band Teenage and Jesus and The Jerks were lead by primal screamer and guitarist Lydia Lunch, an individual who has fought her artistic way through the decades, always true to her own vision and always brutally honest. In early 1978, artist and producer Brian Eno attended a series of shows put on to benefit the Artists Space in Soho and influenced Island Records to finance an anthology LP featuring the four strongest bands -- Teenage Jesus and the Jerks, The Contortions, Mars and DNA. The resulting recording, entitled No New York and produced by Eno, remains as one of the most impressive and extraordinarily bold debuts of the time. Here we compiled all Teenage Jesus and The Jerks recordings, alongside some NEVER previously released live material. Simultaneous to Teenage Jesus, Lunch formed Beirut Slump, released one single and recorded an albums worth of material, which is also included on this remarkable release." - Cherry Red |

Artist: V/A Title: Miniatures One + Two Format: Double CD Label: Cherry Red Country: UK Price: $19.00 |
| "Featuring artists as diverse as The Residents, Robert Fripp, XTCs Andy Partridge, Pete Seeger, Robert Wyatt and The Pretenders Martin Chambers, as well as cover artwork contributed by Ralph Steadman, Morgan Fishers 1980 release Miniatures truly was a first. Overwhelmed with concepts for potential releases, Fisher decided to see how many of these ideas he might be able to squeeze onto just one album. Rather than performing everything himself, he invited 50 musicians he admired to send in tracks of up to one minute in length. They responded with unanimous enthusiasm, and Miniatures was born out of Morgans precise editing and sequencing of these tracks, providing a unique snapshot of the cutting-edge music of the period and achieving legendary status amongst those who cherish such creativity and individuality in the process. Fast forward 15 years, several projects and the development of new realms of communication and data transfer afforded by the internet, and Morgan decided the time was right for a sequel. Little did he know that this project would take six years to complete and involve an international cast of players (taking in 18 countries across five continents), but it proved truly worth both the effort and the wait. The astounding Miniatures 2 brings together over 60 musicians and artists of all genres -- the bizarre, the eccentric, the contemplative, the rebel-rousers, the pioneers and the philosophers and no stone was left unturned in its creation. As with the original album, one minute creations were composed, then sequenced and edited by Morgan, again meeting with rave reviews and an acknowledgement that Fisher had produced something both original and vital to those with any interest in music existing outside the mainstream. Comprising both legendary tiny masterpiece collections, this new set brings together all one hundred and thirteen tracks (yes, 113!) in one two-disc collection for the first time, freshly boosted and tweaked for 2008. New artwork and sleeve-notes have also been provided by Morgan himself." - Cherry Red. Artists include: The Residents, Robert Wyatt, Fred Frith, Lol Coxhill, Steve Miller, Robert Fripp, Ron Geesin, Ralph Steadman, Trevor Wishart, Ivor Cutle, Metabolist, Gavin Bryars, 1/2 Japanese, David Cunningham (The Flying Lizards), Etron Fou Leloublan, Terry Riley, Meredith Monk, David Cunningham, & Moondog (Louis Hardin). |

| "New recordings by the glitter coated pin-up/numbskull/genius. Amazing all over the place sonic ear hate. Highly recommended. ....you need to change, and actually be more intense and real instead of some character of a character who just sits around and goes bwaaaaaaaaaaah........and you need to learn how to draw, and play some instruments, and how to be human, in stead of a cool monster, and i think your music should be funnier and you need stage presence sorry but you r last two performances can kiss a dick, I mean they were so boring, you were just standing there blasting noise, woooooooooo. Ultimately no one out side of a hand full of people dont care, - hate mail to pat from an old boyfriend." - Chocolate Monk. |

Artist: KELLEY, GREG Title: 1 Hour As Something That Didnt Turn Out The Way I Intended It Format: CDR Label: Chocolate Monk Country: UK Price: $12.00 |
| Another exercise in failure. Spring 2003: With assistance from Vic Rawlings, I fill my room at Club Awesome in Somerville MA w/ electric keyboards, synth, a small organ and set them all for drone. A radio plays static. Record to MD, output MD through my stereo for low feedback. An electric fan is aimed at the microphone for the distorted vintage 78 effect (rpm, not the year). Vic bowed a single cello note at some point and a cymbal was scraped. The intent: record in mono for 2 hours, communicate with the dead. After 1 hour, I couldnt take it any more. My intended "Two hours as..." is now "One hour as..." I fussed over it for a while. Its kind of boring. I like boring, but... Late Winter 2004: I must do something with this recording. I decide to look backwards into the archives... January 8, 2000: I send out a call to arms: Meet me at Twisted Village Records, Cambridge MA at 8pm. Its Scelsis birthday and we will play a memorial drone for him. The call was met by Oliver Alden, Mike Bullock, James Baumgartner, Seth Cluett, James Coleman, David Dougan, David Gross, Tatsuya Nakatani, Howard Stelzer, Bhob Rainey, Vic Rawlings. Some automatic instruments played themselves. Others may have been there, but I dont remember. And you cant really hear them anyway. Back to Late Winter 2004: I record a new track onto my 4 track in my bedroom in Allston MA. Trumpet and radio static. (DJ Screws ghost inhabited my 4 track near the end of this track.) Then I record a burning guitar solo for the end of my new and improved "One hour as..." The mono drone, the Scelsi tribute band, the trumpet/radio track and the HOTT guitar track are all mixed down from 4 track to MD under the influence of Samuel Smith Oatmeal Stout. A vocal intro and headphone feedback interruptions are then added. The task is complete. Its a bloodbath. What have I done? |

Artist: ASHLEY/WALTER MARCHETTI, ROBERT Title: Oct. 25th, 2001: Merkin Concert Hall, NYC Format: Double LP Label: Choose Country: Germany Price: $55.00 |
| "Back in 2001, Thomas Buckner organized a series of concerts at Merkin Hall in New York City. The idea was to have a contemporary classic composer inviting another composer, a kind of alter-ego, to perform together. When Robert Ashley, whose concert was considered the peak of the whole series of events, decided to invite his old friend Walter Marchetti, it was immediately clear that there would have been something unforgettable going on. The night of October 25th, 2001, the audience at the Merkin Hall had the privilege of being present at one of the more dense, intimate and breathtaking sonic events in contemporary music history. Sides A and B include the live rendering of two Walter Marchetti sound works previously issued on CD by Alga Marghen. A 25-minute excerpt of Nei Mari del Sud. Musica in Secca and one painful variation from De Musicorum Infelicitate. The performance of those tape pieces was conceived as an action theatre event, the first concert of the legendary Italian composer in the States after more than 30 years! Side C includes the recording of Robert Ashleys Yes, But Is It Edible?, a composition for piano and voice dedicated to Thomas Buckner who performs it with the composer. This 27:30 min long piece is a true masterpiece, with Robert Ashley introducing us to creation and coincidence, space and time, private parts and characters, with direct references to the ONCE group and his friends David Behrman, Alvin Lucier, Gordon Mumma, Pauline Oliveros, Terry Riley, Blue Gene Tyranny, George Manupelli, as well as Maria Callas and Patsy Cline, Elvis and Lennon, Monteverdi, pop music, Irish and Jewish new-comers Broadway musical parody of America, Lloyd-Weber, Saturday Night Life, Chinese opera, mariachi bands, country music and much more. Side D includes Practical Anarchism, a touching homage that Robert Ashley dedicated to Walter Marchetti. Previously published as a text by Alga Marghen in the booklet of the Antibarbarus CD, this is actually the first time ever that this piece for solo voice, performed by the same Robert Ashley, is made available on record. Also on side D is Musica Per un Bicchiere non Molto Grande, an early ZAJ piece by Walter Marchetti, performed here by Robert Ashley. Edition of 300 copies." - Choose. |

Artist: MEDIO MUTANTE Title: Inestable EP Format: 12" Label: Cititrax Country: USA Price: $18.00 |
| "Cititrax is proud to present Medio Mutantes debut 12 inch EP. The six tracks on this record are the product of a serendipitous meeting of minds and the feverish week of recording sessions that followed. Mariana Saldana, Jose Cota and Seth Nemec met in 2007 in Austin Texas and began recording the same night, writing the title track Inestable as soon as the synths had been plugged in. Drawing on a shared love of synthesizers and drum machines, each had worked as a solo electronic artist before uniting, the three immediately found a shared vision. Having grown up listening to Hip-hop, Jazz, Latin freestyle and New Wave records from Europe, America and Japan, Medio Mutante wrings a mutated blend of raw and propulsive energy from their limited analogue gear. The bands name, literally Average Mutant in Spanish, is also an indication of their subtle perversion of familiar themes in their songs. Love, science fiction, and disenfranchisement in a future gone bland are turned on their ear in 6 danceable electro songs sung in Spanish and English. Medio Mutante are an American band, born of working class values, with their feet planted in the past but looking to the future. Limited edition of 600 copies." -Cititrax. New side label of Minimal Wave. |

Artist: Z-FACTOR Title: Dance Party Album Format: LP Label: Cititrax Country: USA Price: $21.00 |
| "The first release on NYC based label, Cititrax, is a re-issue of Z-Factors Dance Party Album (originally released in 1984, 500 copies). Fronted by Jesse Saunders and Vince Lawrence, Z-Factor formed in Chicago in 1982, at the very beginning of the house era. Comes with a retro style 9ÿ12″ poster & pressed on 160 gram vinyl. ESSENTIAL! Hugely influenced by the Hot Mix 5 radio shows on WBMX, Z-Factor incorporated European synth-driven sounds that theyd heard on the radio with 808 rhythm tracks. This disco: the rhythms, the basslines, the spirit, made by amateurs was to become "house". Farley Jackmaster Funk recalls the early Chicago scene: "We started experimenting, playing with drum machines. Jesse Saunders was on board with me at the Playground at the time, and he was a musician. In the early days, the kick drum and the electric tom-toms of the 808 was enough to make people dance without even putting any music to it. So a lot of the stuff was just beat tracks in the beginning. Then we came to steal everybodys basslines. See, all we ever did was regurgitate disco again by just stealing everybodys music. Because all the original house stuff that came out was somebody elses bassline." But when drum and bass patterns once played by skilled musicians were copied on cheap synths that sounded like the real instruments, they didnt seem old or stolen. Stripped of their songs, these recycled riffs sounded alien and new, like raw, minimal messages transmitted from another world. It was only a matter of time before tracks started to appear on vinyl, and since Lawrences father owned Mitchbal Records, the group had their opportunity to release what is now known as the first full length house album. Nowadays, original copies of the Dance Party Album are very rare, and therefore expensive. And so we present to you the reissue of this important record." -Cititrax. Sidelabel of Minimal Wave. |

Artist: CLARINETTE Title: Little Fluttery Screamy Thing Format: Lathe Cut 7" & CDR Label: Clarinette Country: USA Price: $15.00 |
| "With 2001s "Haze" on Ecstatic Yod and the forthcoming "Transmuting Fall" on Celebrate Psi Phenomenon, Clarinette has confounded a few, delighted some others and remained completely unheard of by just about everyone else. Drenching everything in blankets of echo (natural and synthetic) Clarinette has effectively evaded creating anything reasonably identifiable as proper music. Dusteds Charlie Wilmoth called Clarinettes Haze a bizarre gem of a record describing it as like nothing a human being would try to make on purpose. Haze went on to take an impressive 916th place in The Village Voices Pazz n Jop Poll for 2002. 2004s Little Fluttery Screamy Thing EP and its accompanying album length CD-R explore what happens when too many equipment failures crash into an unhealthy obsession with the recent DNA CD anthology. It is nearly all guitar and echo and just barely appropriate for release. Lathe cut by Peter King in New Zealand and limited to 51 copies." - Clarinette. |

In 1983 they released For This Is Past on Clogsontronics records. In 1984 their second album Frequenz came out. In the heart of The Hague, Paulus Wieland and Richard Neumöller hooked up with whiz technician Ton Willekes. Recordings were made from 1977 to 1984. To overcome a lack of dynamics Wieland and Neumöller later turned to three fellow musicians: Ed van Hoven, Marion Prinz and Biko." Artist: BEHRENS, M. Title: Architectural Commentaries Format: CD Label: CMR Country: New Zealand Price: $12.50 |
| "German composer and sound artist Marc Behrens has put forth a beautiful installment of sound work for CMRs second CD release, entitled Architectural Commentaries. Marc has been working with sound (in one form or another) since 1986 and is probably most recognised for his digitally re-worked field material and composition. With a long history of installation work and live performance, he has exhibited alone and in group exhibitions; and performed live internationally in locations such as Japan, Switzerland, Italy, Slovenia, Spain, and the UK. He has completed tours with fellow sound artists Francisco Lopez, Bernhard Gunter and John Duncan and has had notable CD releases on Gunters label Trente Oiseaux (Germany), Digital Narcis (Japan), Raster Music (Germany) and Intransitive Recordings (USA). Architectural Commentaries is comprised of five tracks. The first three pieces, entitled Architectural Commentaries 1-3, are some of Marcs most recent compositions arranged in 2001 using basic material recorded from 1990-2000 in various global locations. Taking title, sleeve images and sound together we are left with new audible environments for architectural structures; jets of forced air and amplified nothing, distant machinery and tiny bites of frequency, faded and cut together to create beautifully atmospheric soundscapes. Track 4 was previously released on RLWs Tulpas 5 CD set (Selektion 024) and was constructed using source material from Ralf Wehowsky. Track 5 was composed in 1992 as a soundtrack to accompany the video Der Raum by Torsten Grosch - stills of which feature on the CD sleeve. The album permits a smooth flow between Marcs earlier and more recent work and shows the artists continuing exploration into the depth and dimensions of sound recording." - CMR. |

Artist: COSTER. TIM Title: Rowboat/Blackberry Format: Lathe Cut 7" Label: CMR Country: New Zealand Price: $13.00 |
| "Tim Coster, hailing from Auckland, New Zealand, presents on CMR his third solo release in the form of an acetate 7". Coster is a sound artist and improviser involved in a number of different projects: Plains (see new CD on www.scarcelight.org), his record label CLaudia (see www.cmr.co.nz/acroma for available releases), and solo practice recording works for CD, sound installation and performance. Working primarily with field recordings and various instruments Coster concentrates on short segments of recorded sound which he dissects, processes and loops. Over these he adds granular tones, field hums and live crackles creating delicate and peaceable sound works. This acetate is produced by Peter King in Mt Somers, NZ and shows Coster at his more musical, with two fantastic 5min songs showing his talent in the subtle mixing of tone and texture." - CMR. |
|

|
Artist: HAMILTON, SAM Title: Tropics Format: Lathe Cut 7" Label: CMR Country: New Zealand Price: $15.00 |
| "two lovely looping tracks made from electric guitar, sampler pedal, spring reverb, computer and lathe. Music thats perfectly suited to the format, loops that shift and change over the 4 mins or so per side. When the records came back I wasnt sure if my old Garrard was sticking on a groove or playing the piece. It was playing, nice... Sam is currently in South America on various recording projects, an old bio below: sitting free from the shallow waters of borderline music, watching stones sink and demanding rigidly defined areas of doubt and uncertainty in the ripples: "hey dickhead, your guitar is out of tune!"" - CMR. Edition of 45. |
|
Artist: HOMETOWN FEILDING Title: Clouds Across The Bay Format: Lathe Cut 7" Label: CMR Country: New Zealand Price: $14.50 |
| "Mark Sadgrove is the man behind Hometown Feilding, as well as his other excellent solo sound project MHFS. Hes also one part of Infinitesimal, one sixth of Plains etc. Hometown Feilding is defined by rough textural electronic sound generated by Sadgroves mastery of sound generation application C-Sound which he uses to twist sounds in on themselves - like a hard drive driven to self mutilation. Great stuff, especially cut by Peter Kings lathe machine to polycarbonate plastic in mono." - CMR. |
|
Artist: HUTCHINSON, IAN-JOHN Title: An Utterbook Format: Lathe Cut 7" Label: CMR Country: New Zealand Price: $15.00 |
| "An Utterbook is fantastic and features one track made from combinations of various field recordings of birds, train stations, hums and noises, beautifully combined. The other piece is a recording of that described below ("integrating utterances into various sound environments") as Ian-John wanders around the streets of Taipei, check it out....top stuff. CMRs first primarily field recording based release for quite some time (since K Mizutani and R Meelkop CDs)" - CMR. "Developing from an interest in poetry Ian-John began making field recordings in the late 90s, making collages with both a journalistic, documentary ethos and a flavour of audio-book narrationand none of the above. Subsequently he has developed a fascination with the linguistic and extra-linguistic vocal products (utterance objects) of various social situations, an interest amplified through exposure to the sound environments of Taiwan and Japan. One strategy is a performance practise of integrating utterances into various sound environments e.g. hes that nutter in the street wearing headphones and talking into an expensive looking microphone. Starting in 2003 he has published a short series of field recordings of utterance objects collected around particular themes under the title Utterbooks ?? . Ian-John is an active member of the Auckland improvised music network Vitamin-S, and is a contributor to the online archive soundtransit.nl." - artist bio. Edition of 45. |

Since 1994 jgrzinich has explored various approaches to sound generation, recording and production. His techniques range from the construction of original instrument devices and the capturing of acoustic phenomenon through environmental field recordings to digital multi-tracking and manipulation. intimations is the first solo release from jgrzinich. intimations began as a series of piano recording experiments in the spring of 2001 in Austin, Texas and continued as a sonic diary of life in transit throughout Europe. The resulting CD came from a culmination of experiences, continually worked through as dynamic and personal electro-acoustic reflections. intimations is comprised of recordings from Texas, Croatia, Italy and Germany and was composed at numerous locations from the Balkans to the Baltics. The CD includes an extended essay by the composer. "These are intimations of a different kind; as if listening was no longer about finding references in a mediated culture but is about sensing the coordinates of ones position through a set of precise signals present in the environment." John Grzinich currently lives in Estonia and works as a media lab coordinator for MOKS, an NGO organization dedicated to local and international cooperation in the fields of arts, social and environmental research." - CMR. |

Artist: LUGOSI Title: Dawn Format: CD Label: CMR Country: New Zealand Price: $12.50 |
| "Lugosi existed in Wellington, New Zealand from the mid to late 1990s and consisted of players Campbell Kneale (Birchville Cat Motel, With Throats As Fine As Needles, Celebrate Psi Phenomenon label boss etc), Andrew Savage (Sunship) and Leon Schutz, with a guest appearance on track two by Clayton Noone (Armpit, CJA, The Strange Girls, Root Don Lonie for Cash label boss etc). Dawn is the groups only CD release to date, following a trickle of fantastic and long out of print miniature edition lathe records and cassette tapes mostly published on Kneales Celebrate Psi Phenomenon label. The six improvisations on the album were recorded in the Lower Hutt Baptist Church in 1998. With electric guitars and keyboards the group creates multiple layers of swooning feedback loops, drifting guitar notes and riffs that interweave - sculpting rich harmonic drones that fall in and out of rhythm with sprinklings of intermittent percussion. CMR is delighted to bring this set of crisp recordings out of the vaults to a wider audience of wanting ears." - CMR. |

Artist: MEELKOP, ROEL Title: (onkyo ok) Format: CD Label: CMR Country: New Zealand Price: $12.50 |
| "Launching CMRs new line of hand-numbered 78rpm dust jacket CD packaging is Dutch sound artist Roel Meelkop. Roel was a founding member of audio art group THU20 in the early eighties who continue to perform and record, is currently a member of electro-acoustic live project Kapotte Muziek, and the electronic rhythm group GOEM (both along with Frans De Waard and Peter Duimelinks). Roel has a long history of visual art, sound installation, curation and organization of various live music events in Rotterdam, his city of residence, and abroad. His well-received solo work has been released on numerous labels including trente oiseaux (Ger), V2_Archief (Neth), line (US), Intransitive Recordings (US), Korm Plastics (Neth) and most recently Tariff Records (US) and Klingfilm (Bel). onkyo ok is composed of recordings made during Roels tour to Japan in summer 2001 (along with Frans De Waard and Peter Duimelinks). Where Kiyoshi Mizutanis Yokosawa-iri CD (cmr1) uses primarily rural sound sources from a selected area, onkyo ok may strike a special chord and familiarity with anyone who has visited Japans urban areas, cities and outlying regions. Various components of the rich Japanese soundscape (to name a few: pachinko parlours, train crossings, crows, electrical machines, people) have been captured, abstracted (or not), blended and re-composed creating unique sonic snapshots of this beautiful and at times bewildering country. The sound pieces are relatively constant over time (Roels characteristic silences are at a minimum) containing numerous complimentary sources simultaneously building together into broadband structures, then falling away to focus on various seperate objects and events. This album serves as a beautiful document and expression of the ever-changing Japanese acoustic environment as it was at the beginning of the twenty first century." - CMR. |

Artist: SCI HI Title: Lab Recordings Format: Lathe Cut 7"/CDR Label: CMR Country: New Zealand Price: $18.50 |
| "Sci Hi is the moniker of musician and sound artist Paul Winstanley. Paul has been active for many years in numerous incarnations while in Texas and Auckland, New Zealand including P.H., LoCasta, Artificial Subterrane, Speed Cook, Paul Guilford from The Dave Dove Paul Duo, and more recently in Auckland groups such as Audible 3 and Plains. The Sci Hi sound is made from digital feedback. Sci Hi is like a school of small fish where each fish is represented by a tiny sine wave rising or falling in pitch. PW jumps in the middle of the school and all the little fishys go scattering in every direction, creating beautifully complex, multi-layered clouds of sound." - CMR. |
|
Artist: UN CIEGO Title: L.A. Softcore Format: Lathe Cut 7" Label: CMR Country: New Zealand Price: $10.00 |
| "NZer Andrew Scott, formerly living in Auckland, now for a few years located in Los Angeles, California. This solo record features 7 short tracks, all made with acoustic and electric guitars. A mix of guitar note plucking and strumming, drone repetition, and heavy distorted noise. Somehow all tied together beautifully, almost as if its one track. At times sounds like there is a field recording component to the recordings, but I think this is more likely ambient sounds from the rooms/locations he records in (was that a pub? was that an abandoned warehouse?)." -CMR |

Artist: FRANKLIN Title: Life Circle Format: Double LP Label: Cocodrilo Country: Spain Price: $45.00 |
| "Franklin were one of the first underground bands from Spain, formed in the late 60s by some of the best musicians based in Madrid at the time. Fuelled by the killer guitars of Pablo Weeber and Antonio Gª De Diego, they only recorded two sought after & excellent hard-psych 45s (the first one, containing their psyched to the max cover of the Stones Satisfaction was recently included on the Andergraun Vibrations comp). In 1974, the band recorded a whole album which was never released until now. Their new line-up for those sessions featured two drummers and a new keyboard player. Life Circle is a conceptual album which sounds more prog-rock than their previous 45s, in fact we must say this is a must for anyone into Spanish progressive sounds. Nine tracks full of hard guitar, mini-Moog, Mellotron, analog keyboards, some spacey and experimental-symphonic passages, English vocals. Titles like Renaissance, Intro for Cosmic Body, Takeoff. Double vinyl set, 500 copies limited, featuring the whole Franklin output: their two 45s, the unreleased Life Circle album remastered from the master tapes and a couple of rare live tracks. Includes insert with liner notes and photos."-Cocodrilo |

Artist: PRURIENT Title: Black Post Society Format: CD Label: Cold Spring Country: UK Price: $16.50 |
| "The Black Post Society embraces and accepts the depression of not having anything left to hunt. The mask without a face to hold. The depression of the hunter after the deer is killed. It is better to be hungry than to have eaten. As fantasy shatters under the whip of reality, erotic malaise settles in the nest of the mind inverting this dormant fuel to rekindle the endless cycle of sexual chaos. Black Industrial / Power Noise from this highly respected US act!" -Cold Spring |

Artist: LA OTRACINA Title: The Risk Of Gravitation Format: CDR Label: Colour Sounds Country: USA Price: $8.00 |
| The Risk Of Gravitation is the stunning new Summer 08 Tour mini-album by Brooklyns LA OTRACINA, who have long wandered and forged sounds in the hidden lands of heavy psychedelia and progressive space music. This 7 track 32+ minute excursion is a major paradigm shift for the group as drummer Adam Kriney is now on vocal duties as well, adding yet another layer of epic intensity to the swirling chaos of Evan Sobels Fender Bass VI low-end destruction and new guitarist Philippe Ortanezs ecstatically angular bliss-out. This disc shifts between tracks of classic LA OTRACINA free-form freakout brilliance and their current vocal-heavy jams, which put the progressive psych back into early heavy metal while exploring realms of dark doom-sludge thunder and the graceful complexity of early Canterbury jazz-rock. Refusing to be quantified, it is clear that LA OTRACINA remain in an orbit of their own, seeking out the cosmic weird and channeling it through hard rock power! First press limited edition of 100 numbered copies." - Colour Sounds Recordings |

Artist: LA OTRACINA Title: Woven Wanderers Format: CDR Label: Colour Sounds Country: USA Price: $8.00 |
| "BRAND NEW STUDIO ALBUM! Yes, these sonic spacemen have just finished yet another studio album, this one channeling yet even newer ideas into their boundless sphere of psychedelic transmissions! Quite different from their current "space-metal" live show, this new studio album swirls between worlds of loner cosmic psych-folk meditations, 70s european electronic-progressive space music (i.e. - HELDON/TANGERINE DREAM/CLUSTER/SPACECRAFT/PULSAR), overblown freak-rock improvisation and heavy-dark-brooding New Music-meets-Industrial sound-collage mind warp! 9 songs, 35 minutes, professionally printed CD-Rs and full color inserts, 1st edition of 100!" - Colour Sounds. |

Artist: RUST IONICS Title: Moving/Pictures Format: LP Label: Colour Sounds Country: USA Price: $10.00 |
| "Moving/Pictures" marks the first vinyl release on Colour Sounds Recordings, and drummer Adam Kriney declares "This is the most insane record Ive ever recorded", nuff said? A black sheet of improvised sonic skull-fuckery from the depths of the most mind-splitting free-noise/brutal-jazz movement, brought to you by the ad-hoc first/only recording of RUST IONICS, the trio of freak drummer Adam Kriney (OWL XOUNDS/LA OTRACINA/BLIZZARDS/CASTANETS), electric guitar wizard Doug Theriault (OFFICE PRODUCTS/DUAL, collab-er with Wally Shoup/Jeph Jerman/Brian Eubanks), and extreme sax-ist Ed Chang (DUAL/SPIN-17/AGENTS At MIDNIGHT, collab-er with Marshall Allen/Ravi Padmanabha). Full on grindcore/metal scapes clashed with fiercely extended saxaphone use and a dynamic whirl of free-improvisational magic, all together a blinding force, a drugged memory, and a leave-no-survivors presense. Comes on gorgeous transparent blue vinyl in a limited edition of 311 copies. Recommended for fans of BORBETOMAGUS, Keiji Haino, PAINKILLER, and Peter Brotmann10s more extreme work." - Colour Sounds. |

Artist: RILEY, TERRY Title: A Rainbow In Curved Air Format: LP Label: Columbia Country: USA Price: $19.00 |
| "180 gram exact repro reissue of this minimalist masterpiece, originally released in 1969. "All the music on this recording is played by Terry. In A Rainbow he plays electric organ, electric harpsichord, rocksichord, dumbec and tambourine. Poppy Nogood is for soprano saxophone and electric organ. The spatially separated mirror images were adapted for studio recording by Glen Kolotkin and resemble the sound Terry gets in his all-night concerts." -Columbia |
|
Artist: TREES Title: On the Shore Format: CD Label: Columbia Country: UK Price: $13.50 |
| "Formed in 1969, folk/rock quintet Trees used a similar blueprint to that pioneered by Fairport Convention, whose influence was unsurprisingly evident in the two Trees albums made for CBS and both released in 1970, The Garden of Jane Delawney , and On The Shore . The most obvious similarity to Fairport was that both groups had a female vocalist, Sandy Denny of Fairport and Celia Humphris. The other members of Trees on the two albums were Bias (short for Tobias) Boshell (bass guitar on the first album and also keyboard player on the second), lead guitarist Barry Clarke, David Costa (12 string and acoustic guitars, dulcimer, mandolin, etc.) and Unwin Brown (drums)" |

Artist: UCHIDA & THE FLOWERS, YUYA Title: Challenge! Format: CD Label: Columbia Country: Japan Price: $26.00 |
| "Legit reissue with mini-LP style packaging; includes 5 bonus tracks. "First incarnation of the legendary Japanese hard prog psych rock act Flower Travellin Band. Debut album by Yuya Uchida & The Flowers which was started by Yuya Uchida (born on 17 November 1939) who already was making some rockabilly singles in the early 60s and was one of the opening performers when The Beatles came to Japan in 1966. But when he traveled to Europe in 1967, he was immediately inspired by Cream, Jimi Hendrix and The Who. When he returned to Japan, he started the band The Flowers with vocalist Remi Aso, and the band caused a sensation in the Japanese music scene. Most of the tracks on this album are covers of songs by Cream, Big Brother and the Holding Company, Jefferson Airplane, Jimi Hendrix, and one original song." - Columbia. |

Recorded in Tokyo, 2006. "To be performed, Takemitsus score must be realized, either ahead of time or improvisationally; what ORourke plays here is his own Tokyo realization of the piece; there is also a well known London version recorded by Roger Woodward in 1973, reissued on CD in 2006 by Explore Records." --Seth Tisue. Artist: EL JESUS DE MAGICO Title: Klip Aught Format: 7" Label: Columbus Discount Country: USA Price: $5.00 |
| "Lets start with a re-cap of the discography of El Jesus De Magico. Theres the crust punk rental property destroying Scratch Acid-ish x-tendo jams of their first CD, and theres the underground Taiwanese jungle kick boxing circuit bending chants of their last LP. Theres the darker side of Flying Nun indie by way of Skin Graft on their Unclean Ghost single and theres the AM radio conspiracy theorist Kennedy family bad vibes occultism of their Funeral Home Sessions E.P. And now theres this...KLIP AUGHT, their 3rd single and 5th release. This record swings from Spacemen 3 to Jesus and Mary Chain to Dinosaur Jr to the Puddle to Mayo Thompson without a lot of effort. All of the weirdness is distills into a single that hangs around in the neighborhood of their earlier singles. A tight pop music take on a thousand-million little bits of twenty-five years of underground music, all kind of run through the energy you get from recording and practicing around ghosts, corpses, milk crates full of fan club vinyl and pictures of obscure American Aristocrats in a downtown funeral home in Columbus, OH. This is another excellent single by a band that continues to build a remarkable and confounding discography." - Columbus Discount. |

Artist: GUINEA WORMS Title: Sorcererers of Madness (4rd Year in a Row!) Format: Double LP Label: Columbus Discount Country: USA Price: $22.00 |
| "For the past 10 or 12 years the Guinea Worms have been, in just about every way, the perfect rock band. They are loud and heavy and have a talent for playing songs that make the stupidest shit seem profound. They can also make normal shit seem gross and gross shit seem sexy. If youve ever experienced existential dread at the thought of hostess cupcakes, thought the B-52s Rock Lobster is a metaphor for premature ejaculation, or realized that for all their high falutin art talk, 95% of DEV-Os songs are about Mark Mothersbaughs foot fetish, you will understand the Worms. For us here in Columbus, OH they are the Ramones, Country Teasers, Budgie and Gary Glitter all rolled up into one creepy freakazoid package. Im not sure what it says about CDR as an organization, but theyve been one of our favorite bands for forever. So, In early 2008, following the release of the Box of Records single (the fastest selling record in CDR history), we asked Will Foster (the King Worm and Comper) for an LP, and he turned in 12 CD-Rs. The vast majority of it was solid gold, it was all so good, in fact, that it took us about a year to get it pared down to 2 LPs. The end result is a mosaic portrait culling from over a decade worth of material in the Will Foster archive. It represents the Worms at various stages of intoxication/sobriety/Fall worship. Anyway, Ladies and Germs, without further ado, the moment has arrived... We are pleased to announce the long-anticipated debut album from the Guinea Worms... 22 songs, 2 LPs, & 82 epic minutes... Guinea Worms Sorcererers of Madness (4rd year in a Row!) has finally arrived. Edition of 550, 100 sets on Pink/Orange, 450 sets on black. All in hand signed 2xLP gatefold sleeve w/ 5x7 photo." - Columbus Discount. |

Artist: HOUSE, RON Title: Blind Boy in the Backseat Format: LP Label: Columbus Discount Country: USA Price: $14.00 |
| SOLD OUT! "Reissued for the first time on vinyl! This is the second of three Old Age/No Age re-issues we will be releasing in 2010. Mastered directly from the original 86 cassette (not the bass-less re-mix that was used for the "New Wave As The Next Guy" cd compilation in 97). Blind Boy In The Backseat has been one of our fantasy releases since we started the label, so the fact that it has become a reality is a bit unreal. A true classic. You get selections from Houses two legendary pre-Great Plains bands - Moses Carryout and Twisted Shouts - as well as some solo stuff recorded with Mike Rep and Moses Carryouts Kim Workman, and to top it all off theres the version of "Chuck Berrys Orphan" backed by the True Believers! Definitive." - Columbus Discount. Highly recommended! SOLD OUT! |

The tracks are of a musical dark matter, an unseen cosmic force connecting 1970s Ohio punk/folk 4-track experiments to the Cowtown lo-fi explosion of the early-90s and beyond. Limited edition of 500 copies on both formats. CD includes eight bonus tracks."- Columbus Discount |

Artist: JAY, TOMMY & MIKE REP Title: The Grim-O Comix Sequence Format: LP Label: Columbus Discount Country: USA Price: $14.00 |
| SOLD OUT! "The Grim-O Comix Sequence was a cycle of songs recorded over the course of Tommy Jay & Mike Reps senior year at Grove City H.S. intended to be some sort of private-press folk rock opera, touching on all the concerns of the day - frustration of minimum wage work, unrequited love, insignificance, and hopelessness - which incredibly remained wholly unreleased and under tight lock and key for all of these years. Listening to these recordings, you can hear them experimenting with recording and songwriting techniques that would end up being staples of their respective musical identities. For example, on the rockers like Box Boy, you can hear Mike Rep hammering out the fuzzy mess of a guitar that would later become the Mama Was a Scitzo/War of the Worlds sound. On folkier numbers like Now is the Time you can hear Tommy Jay working out the sparkly guitar and vocal delay that would later be a major part of Toms Tall Tales of Trauma. Like everything everybody does in high school, this recording isnt without its cringe-worthy moments, but its great to hear the beginnings of two burgeoning songwriter/ producers with talents beyond their years. Its no wonder a year later they would break out of the basement and famously let loose as Mike Rep The Quotas on their seminal "Rocket to Nowhere" single." - Columbus Discount. Highly recommended!
