Artist: DIREEN, BILL & THE HAT
Title: NYC 1989
Format: LP
Label: Unwucht
Country: Germany
Price: $27.00
"During his 1989 visit to New York Bill Direen teamed up with fellow New Zealanders Hamish Kilgour (The Clean, Mad Scene), Allen Meek (Bilders, Victor Dimisich Band) and Tony O’Blaney (Coloring Book) to form the one-off project Bill Direen & The HAT. With help from Lisa Siegel (Mad Scene), Liz Silver and Steve Cournane (Alpaca Brothers) an album-length selection of new compositions was recorded at Manhattan’s PPI Studios and subsequently released as a super-limited cassette on Bill’s own South Indies imprint (later reissued by Powertool Records in slightly different form as the „New York Sack“ CD). For this first time ever vinyl release a number of alternative takes and mixes were chosen from four hours of master tapes, including a double-guitared Ozone, a moody Trees and a snappy Always Be Round. The new selections and the careful mastering of the originals make for a sharp and coherent album deserving the tag "definitive". The LP comes in handmade US-style heavy cardboard sleeves with beautiful new artwork by Hamish Kilgour. Edition: 200 copies." -Unwucht.
