Title: Surges/Suspensions, Comme Toujours
Format: Triple CD
Label: Shih Shih Wu Ai
Country: USA
Price: $20.00
"In 1998, after attending close to every one of the Ensembles bimonthly concerts at the West Bank School of Music for well over a decade, Michael Mann decided the group was long overdue for the opportunity to once again present its work in a concert hall. (The school, you see, is actually an old house; the Ensemble presenting its work in the "living room".) So, he booked a hall on a local college campus for "Two Evenings of Improvised Music", wherein Milo Fine and Steve Gnitka, the nucleus of the Ensemble, collaborated with four of their most stalwart associates -- Scott Newell, John OBrien, Elliot Fine and Jason S. Shapiro -- in trio and quartet formats. He also made arrangements for the event to be recorded. Thus, this triple CD features the vast majority of the music played during those two evenings." - Shih Shih Wu Ai. Milo Fine: piano, drums, marimba/electronics, clarinet, clarinet/electronics, alto clarinet, bowed cymbals; Steve Gnitka: guitar; Scott Newell: tenor sax, wood flutes, "paper"; John OBrien: trumpet, flugelhorn; Elliot Fine: percussion; Jason Shapiro: piano, synthesizer. Massive 3 CD box set with hand drawn cover artwork. Edition of 500.

Title: The Untenability of Sentience & More Wistful Tunes for the Sincere
Format: Double CD
Label: Shih Shih Wu Ai
Country: USA
Price: $12.00
Limited edition of 500 copies. "I began working with Steve Gnitka in late 1975, after an introduction arranged by Scott Newell, with whom I had already been collaborating for a few years. (Primarily playing guitar, Scott was a member of the Ensemble at the time, and, as he was leaving town, recommended Steve as his ⿿replacement⿝.) Shih Shih Wu Ai 12/13 marks Steves and my 15th collaborative LP and/or CD, while Scotts work with me has previously been documented on SURGES/SUSPENSIONS, COMME TOUJOURS (Shih Shih Wu Ai 7-9) and KOI/KLOPS (Emanem 4060). I first met Charles Gillett in the late nineties, but it wasnt until a few years later (2002) that we really started getting to know one another and, after being exposed to his distinctive approach to the guitar, began collaborating. Charles work with me has previously been documented on SENILITÿ (Emanem 4132) and CONTIGUOUS CHUNKS (Shih Shih Wu Ai 11). Stefan Kac and I are both on the faculty at the West Bank School of Music (me for decades; him since 2005). I first heard him play at a benefit for the School that year where he tore through an a cappella realization of Thelonious Monks ⿿Bye-Ya⿝. (This event provided him the first exposure to my playing as well; on that evening a short piano solo.) Within a short time we began working together in a variety of contexts. MORE WISTFUL TUNES FOR THE SINCERE marks our first collaborative documentation." - Milo Fine, Shih Shih Wu Ai. Recorded August 7, 2009 and September 14, 2009.

Title: Towards
Format: CD
Label: Shih Shih Wu Ai
Country: USA
Price: $10.00
"This CD could be seen as an indirect result of a phone call Milo Fine received from Davu Seru in 2000. Relatively new to improvised music, Davu was casting about for information and possible collaborative possibilities. Discussions, hearing one anothers music and, ultimately, concerts ensued, the latter often involving Davus main partner Andrew Lafkas, among others. Milo also invited each of them to join the Ensemble at as part of the bimonthly concert series at the West Bank School of Music. As the School has neither the space to allow for a quartet with this instrumentation, nor, for that matter, a decent piano, this CD was recorded at Milos home in late 2003." - Shih Shih Wu Ai. Milo Fine: piano, groan tube wheel, acme siren (upstairs), drum set, bowed cymbals, chimes (downstairs); Steve Gnitka: guitar; Andrew Lafkas: bass; Davu Seru: drum set (upstairs), percussion (downstairs). Newest self released disc from Milo and company.

Title: You Will Not Be Pressed To Buy (Volume One/Volume Two)
Format: Double CD
Label: Shih Shih Wu Ai
Country: USA
Price: $11.00
"Culled from a pair of 2011 concerts. Both feature multi-instrumentalist Fine (drum set, piano, clarinets) and his long-time partner, guitarist Steve Gnitka with, on the first disk, vocalist Viv Corringham, and, on the second, John OBrien (cornet, flugelhorn). John and Milos collaborative work dates back to 1975 and has been documented on the 1975 "LP Improvisations (Being Free)" LP and the 1996 triple CD "Surges/Suspensions". Vivs move from England to Minnesota in 2004 marked the beginning of her ongoing musical association with Milo. Their first, and, up to this point, only shared document was the 2005 CD "Senilta"." - MF
