Title: Kill Your Darlings... Not!
Format: Cass
Label: Barreuh
Country: Netherlands
Price: $14.00
Edition of 50. “Its not very often we review a cassette with no less than fifty-five songs on them, but heres one, and each one is mentioned on the cover. In a way one could perhaps see this as a companion release to The Vaults, a double 10″ released by Danielle Lemaire and Jan van den Dobbelsteen (which was reviewed in Vital Weekly 949, and for which I got a mild slap on the wrist: I hadnt mentioned the cover. The cover of that double 10″ looks great, printed by Knust in Nijmegen on their riso machines and has a great naive charm, which adds to the music), as these fifty-five pieces are from roughly 2003 to 2014 and are short, sketch like, with Danielle Lemaire mostly using her voice, telling stories, singing, whispering, moaning and whatever else; sometimes she plays her trademark percussion (xylophones mostly), organ and whatever she else can use. Its all very small and intimate music, almost like a poetry release. Obviously (?) I lost my way while playing this and looking at the track list; it acted in the end more as an endless, unconscious stream of sounds, words, music, and environments. Comes with a nice cover too!” - Vital Weekly.

Title: Lucia Pamela: The Story of a Document Humain
Format: Book + CD
Label: Inner Landscapes
Country: Netherlands
Price: $15.00
Edition of 250. “In 1998 Danielle Lemaire got to know the music and drawings of Lucia Pamela (United States, 1904-2002). She felt an immediate affinity with Pamelas -relatively unknown- work. Since then Danielle Lemaire works on a comprehensive project around this eccentric lady – including a documentary film (85 minutes), photographs, films, drawings, music, audio-and book publications and a comprehensive archive of correspondence-and research materials.

Lucia Pamela, entertainer, outsider artist, first woman on the moon and Miss St.Louis in 1927, was leader of one of the first female swingbands in the 1920s and 30s in the South of the United States and made the album Into Outer Space With Lucia Pamela in 1969.

The music and songs on this LP are about Lucias trip to the moon and are recorded there. The LP (label Gulfstream Records) in the meantime has become a rare collectors item.

Danielle Lemaire researched the progression and production of this wonderous album and the remarkable life of Lucia Pamela. Amongst those Danielle Lemaire received support from Pamelas grandson, Hollywood filmmaker, Dale Rosenbloom. He commissioned Lemaire to make a documentary on his grandmother when he noticed the flourishing friendship between Lemaire and Pamela.

Danielle met Pamela several times, befriended her and her “American Dream” family, who are owners of the football team The St.Louis Rams. This was a unique entrance into the life Lucia Pamela and her family-that otherwise would have remained closed.” - Inner Landscapes.

Country: Netherlands
Price: $19.00
2013 release, edition of 100.

“Layered varieted songs, some influenced by indonesian gamelan and chinese opera and ninety-seventees new age. Some life recordings. ... Dreamy, outspinning, passionate, dead honoust, layered songs.” - Danielle Lemaire.

“Already inside music and art for many years now, I do happen to know Danielle Lemaire pretty well, so she tells me about a lot of her activities. From all the musicians reviewed in the weeklies, there are very few I see on a regular basis, but Miss Lemaire is one. I do know she is in part of Indonesian background and that music and drawing are her main activities. In music, since that is what we are dealing with in Vital Weekly, Lemaire uses voice, small keyboards, percussion and it all has a very personal character. The songs she sings are small and intimate, not always being in tune. That gives her music a slightly outsider like character, but believe me: she is hardly an outsider, and someone who knows what she is doing. On this new release it seems that world music (for the lack of a better word) seems to have an important place. Gamelan like percussive sounds, the Vietnamese music from a sampling project earlier this year and influences from Chinese opera. Although I quite enjoy this, I must be honest: I particularly like the instrumental pieces, such as the largely instrumental Bricks From The Balcony, or the wordless Set Me Free, the long ambient piece of Licht!, or the nasty harmonium of Schaduwtrein. When its all the more obvious singing and playing keyboards, its something Im not that interested in. But as said, this is all highly subjective and highly personal. Not just this reviewers opinion, but also the way Lemaire approaches her music. That is something one either likes very much or not at all. I walk a thin line between that; difficult, but the more experimental pieces proof its possible. Great looking digipack actually, very professionally made!” - Vital Weekly.
