Title: Requiem für meine Frau Beate: Musik der 5.6.Aktion
Format: Double CD
Label: Alga Marghen
Country: Italy
Price: $44.00
"Alga Marghen proudly present the documentation of Requiem für meine Frau Beate, which took place in the Chiesa di Santa Lucia in Bologna, Italy, in 1977 shortly after Beate Nitschs death. This was not only one of the strongest and most powerful aktionen by Hermann Nitsch but also a crucial point in the development of his art. Beginning in 1977, Beate Nitsch was travelling in Schwarzwald. She has been inaugurating a nursery-school and wanted to meet some relatives in Stuttgart when, near Ulm, she had a terrible car accident. Beate had supported her husbands art not only sharing the sentimental part of their life but also actively collaborating to the organization of his work. She organized the purchase of a castle in Prinzendorf, the central place where Nitsch would develop his Orgien Mysterien Theater. For Hermann Nitsch, this loss was a complete collapse. He suddenly felt to be on the opposite side of life, alone and full of despair. In those days, he reached the deepest point of black unhappiness. Nitsch decided then to go Naples where he organized a Lehraktion at Morra Gallery. His friend Kubelka joined him from the USA. During the Lehraktion, he was told about a big Performance Festival that would have taken place in Bologna. Nitsch was invited to participate with an aktion to be performed in a big old church. It was clear to Nitsch that he would have conceived an aktion dedicated to the memory of Beate. A requiem, even. Before the aktion in Bologna, Hermann Nitschs music was basically released as a wall of noise. The musicians could play what they wanted and the only instruction was to play as loud as possible. Only the duration, the starting point and the noise level of each instrument was fixed. For the first time with the Requiem, Nitsch started to conceive longer tone clusters, specially for the wind instruments. The perfect acoustics of the church with its wonderful organ, which shocked Nitsch with its intensity and power, suggested him a new direction in music. Among the lucky audience were many friends coming from all over the world to witness the event. For everyone the Requiem was an important and ecstatic experience. The big success of the aktion gave Nitsch the strength to continue his work. Shortly after Bologna he was invited to create new aktionen in Canada and Los Angeles. First time 2CD edition, in tri-folded digipack, reproducing the impossible-to-find 3LP art gallery edition issued in Naples in 1977 for the Radiotaxi series. Including a 12-page folded insert with drawings and directions from the LP boxset original graphics. This edition also includes a 32-page shocking full color photo documentation of the aktion, for the first time available now. Edition of 1000 copies." - Alga Marghen.

Format: LP
Label: Cien Fuegos
Country: Austria
Price: $31.00
“Re-performance of 25. Action, March 1982 in the gallery Pakesch, Vienna. The premiere was in New York, in 1968. Hermann Nitsch, an Austrian painter, performance-artist and composer, was a crucial founding artist of "Viennese Actionism". He has held exhibitions and performed all over the world since the 60s. The idea of the very sensual and archaic Orgien Mysterien Theater was developed in the late 50s and has been performed in variations to this day. For this piece, Nitsch works out all settings of the rituals, the feast in great detail, precisely composes days of art, performance, food, wine and music, to celebrate the existence of mankind…” - Cien Fuegos.

Format: DVD/CD
Label: Edition Krothenhayn
Country: Germany
Price: $108.00
"Super deluxe DVD & CD set. The Action art of Hermann Nitsch from past to present Actions, 1962-2003 (1 DVD; this DVD is in European PAL format only and not compatible with some/many DVD players in the US) plus a CD with the recordings from the 2005 Burgtheater performance. Hand-numbered edition of 1000 copies. The packaging consists of a slip lid box with banderole, containing an 80-page book with photos and text. Disputed and celebrated: Hermann Nitsch, Actionist and painter, composer and stage designer. He is one of the most renowned Austrian artists of today and nevertheless still divides the art world as before. Nitsch belongs beside Günter Brus, Otto Mühl and Rudolf Schwarzkogler as one of the most important main actors of Viennese Actionism. At the beginning of the 60s he carried out his first "Actions" in Vienna, which involved several trials and three terms of imprisonment. His main work, "Orgy Mystery Theatre," the bloody, sacrilegious meat-play inspired by Greek mythology, Antonin Artaud and Sigmund Freud, was the defining work of his career, and has established and influenced Actionist performance representations in contemporary art ever since. On this DVD there is a 4-hour overview of all of Nitschs "Actions" from 1962-2003, as well as an interview from 2005. The 80-page book (German/English) which includes text by Florian Schreiner and numerous photos, explains the theoretical basis of Nitschs work. On the CD are recordings of the 122nd "Action" at the Burgtheater of Vienna in November of 2005. Package: box/book, 80 pages/DVD/CD; Edition: Limited to 1000 copies, hand-numbered; Content: main feature + interview; Running-time: approx. 4 hours; Audio-Language: German; Subtitles: German/English/French; Format: PAL, 4:3, color; Audio-Format: Stereo (MP2/AC3); Region: 0 (all regions)." - Edition Krothenhayn. 2006 release.

Title: Sinfonia Punta Campanella
Format: CD Box Set
Label: Fondazione Morra
Country: Italy
Price: $35.00
"Music plays a fundamental role in the life and work of Hermann Nitsch. It has always been one of the founding elements of his Orgien Misterien Theater (Theatre of Orgies and Mysteries). The initial use of music as purely functional to action was later replaced with a necessity for autonomous composition, in which music finds its own role, independent from the theatrical sphere. The Punta Campanella Symphony is a clear example of an expression of the autonomous activity of Nitsch the composer. Here, it is possible to see all the fundamental elements of his poetics. The aesthetic and Dionysian dimension are clearly announced by the continuous play of construction and destruction of musical forms. The highly dramatic dimension is rendered extreme by the extended crescendo and by a play of contrasts which go from chiarissimo to scurissimo. Performed by Orchestra Xenarmonica del Conservatorio di Palermo including more than 40 musicians plus local folk bands, this Symphony in four movements was recorded during the World Premiere on September 22, 2004 at Punta Campanella, Naples, in front of the Capri Island at sunset. Luxury full colour digipack and slipcase, including a 28-page booklet with photos from the event, scores, as well as two essays titled The O.M. Theaters Music and Punta Campanella Symphony. Privately issued by the art gallery that organised the performance in order to document the event."

Title: Orgelkonzert Berlin 2016
Format: CD
Label: Tochnit Aleph
Country: Germany
Price: $19.00
Recording of Hermann Nitschs pipe organ concert, Berlin, January 22, 2016. "Hermann Nitsch is looked upon as the true successor the great masters of symphony: Beethoven, Bruckner and Mahler. He draws from Scriabins, Schoenbergs and Weberns experience, however comes up with different conclusions than their (sanctioned) successors. That is to say: Nitsch disregards Weberns analysis of music. Unlike others he does not attempt to advance atonal music with methods that should be handed over to science and technical realms (e.g. Stockhausen). Nitsch ignores any attempt to investigate the core of the construction of Weberns music. He does know it well though and starts where others dont react at all; at lust, rot (disintegration) and death, poison and madness, fragrance and temperature, the fluid, the excess. To him the intricate structure of a symphony is not accidental play with traditional forms, its necessity. A symphony is s-o-u-n-d (and complete). Nitsch draws material from a number of epochs, mostly though from late romanticism and expressionism. Unlike those who dont want to let go of the past, Nitsch uses materials that pertain to todays interests rather than adhering to structures established before. Theater and music cannot be left in the hands of specialists only. A new generation has to grow. Nothing is gained by performances of some puny imbeciles. These warmed-up-versions of Dadaistic rage are no good if the goal is to leave the current stagnation in theater and music behind. The staging of a Nitsch performance require something that is completely missing in todays Karajans and Bernsteins: What is called for is rather exact knowledge of where liberation and expansion (really) take place? Few set out to work on Scriabins fragrance and color prophecies. I see a legitimate expansion of Scriabins mystery play in Nitschs symphonic and theatrical work. Nitsch does not make the mistake to turn Scriabins demands into dogma. He doesnt allow himself (run danger) to separate Scriabin from history like a fatherly patron the way it happened to Webern and his successors (epigons). Nitsch didnt run into Scriabin like a lost son but as somebody who clearly knew his own goals and was capable to integrate Scriabins visions into his own work." - Günter Brus, 1969 (translated from the Austrian by Hans J. Schacht) Mastered by Giuseppe Ielasi. Full color six-panel digipak. Edition of 300.
