Title: A History of Every One
Format: LP
Label: Editions Mego
Country: Austria
Price: $21.00
"A History of Every One by Bill Orcutt is an album of songs: minstrel songs, holiday songs, hymns, marches, cowboy songs, Disney songs, work songs, Delta blues. The original tunes themselves are nothing special, well known, but not particularly well-regarded. Most would be filler on a mid-60s Doris Day or Burl Ives LP. What Orcutt does with them however is remarkable: expanding upon techniques developed on 2011s How the Thing Sings (EMEGO 128CD/LP) and incorporating ideas forged since his recording of "The Star Spangled Banner" during his 2012 tour, Orcutt interrogates the apparent banality of his material, subjecting it to discontinuity, disjuncture and a fractured repetition that is disturbing and revelatory. Titled after a line from Gertrude Steins The Making of Americans and inspired by the scholarship of Elijah Wald and Eric Lott, A History of Every One is a bold re-writing of an important historical thread, an interpretation of a lost text and a bewildering extension upon Orcutts already singular language." - Editions Mego.

Title: A New Way To Pay Old Debts
Format: CD
Label: Editions Mego
Country: Austria
Price: $16.00
"Editions Mego is suitably chuffed to announce a CD reissue of San Francisco guitarist Bill Orcutts acoustic hardcore blues stormer A New Way To Pay Old Debts, previously released on Palilalia in 2009, and for many, one of the highlights of recent years with its unique visionary take on solo guitar playing. At the heart of Orcutts sound is a vintage acoustic Kay guitar equipped with a DeArmond pickup. After the neck was broken and subsequently repaired, the guitar was downtuned so as to withstand the tension of the strings, and played with the A and D strings removed. This all lends itself to an intense set of raw, blues-influenced songs that sound heavier than most of the guitar records in your collection put together!! In addition to the original album, this CD reissue contain 2 tracks from the High Waisted 7" (also previously released on Palialia), as well as 4 unreleased tracks. Bill Orcutt: 4-string Kay, voice." -Editions Mego.

Title: How The Thing Sings
Format: LP
Label: Editions Mego
Country: Austria
Price: $19.00
"Gatefold LP version. Yet another essential, cracking new set of songs from Bill Orcutt, showcasing a further development of his unique, visceral acoustic style. The language that Orcutt uses looks familiar at first glance, but cuts deeper and its a myriad of twisted audio thats both full-on and drenched in melancholy, usually in the same gasping breath. While a lot of it is the classic face-melting style, some quieter segments counter balance on the title track as well the epic closer "A Line From OlMan River" and "Heaven Is Closed To Me Now." Recorded Spring 2011 in the Living Room, San Francisco." -Editions Mego.

Title: Turkey In The Straw
Format: 7
Label: Lucky Peach
Country: USA
Price: $7.00
One time pressing of 500. “Bill Orcutt plays “Turkey in the Straw” on a one-sided 45rpm 7-inch record in creamsicle-ish vinyl. (Some records are yellow, some are white, most are in between. We wont tell you what color(s) yours will be because that would ruin the surprise.) Full color jacket designed by John Gall. Orcutt is known for his work in Harry Pussy, a squall for which there was no precedent and to which there is no antecedent, or for his recent and often shoeless acoustic guitar work. On his record A History of Everyone (Editions Mego), Orcutt turns primordial tunes inside out on his four-string guitar. When Richard Parks proposed his essay about the minstrel show origins of the West Coasts ice cream truck song for theStreet Food issue, the idea to ask Orcutt to record it (as well as to start this record thing) was born.” - Lucky Peach.

“In a blender, stuck with your hand, while a heavy wooden table leans on your chest, yelling "keep it down and help, or at least unplug the blender and take that table away", while in the other room the whole family is dancing to "Square Cunts", the automatic acoustic guitar boomerang on the A side of this single, it took a swing in the kitchen and just flew back into the other room! Flipped around, the kitchen dried out when uncle Bill reads his stolen poetry!
