Title: City of Straw
Format: CD
Label: Brah
Country: USA
Price: $15.00
"Crafting a lasting personal aesthetic in the midst of our ephemeral music culture is as rare as it is cause for celebration. With the release of City of Straw Brooklyns SIGHTINGS can be counted among the few contemporary bands who have forged a unique voice amongst the racket. Recorded over a number of months in 2009 at The Ocropolis (Oneidas Brooklyn, NY studio), the bands seventh studio album becomes the crucible from which their grandest and most coherent statement finally emerges. With a deep reach beyond the spirit of their influence from greats like Birthday Party, Dead C and Jesus Lizard, City of Straw finds Sightings working at the peak of their creative powers and is the perfect re-introduction to one of New Yorks most accomplished bands." - Brah.

Title: Amusers and Puzzlers
Format: LP
Label: Dais
Country: USA
Price: $17.00
"After the release of their well-received ninth studio album, Terribly Well, and their successful month long European tour in 2013, Sightings did the unexpected and quietly disbanded without notice or explanation. More than 15 years in the trenches and making a mess throughout New York City, the band made more of a polarizing impact to formalized underground music that most of their peers. Sightings would have been a national treasure if the whole country was laid to waste in Armageddon.

During the sessions that birthed Terribly Well, a complimentary album was recorded in tandem which, while not intended to be their final statement, produced the jaded epilogue from the mouth of experimental rocks most lasting monolith. Amusers and Puzzlers is the schizophrenic culmination of their brand of damaged rock. Isolated noise patterns shifted from Mark Morgans unorthodox guitar patterns sewn up from his nervous, scattered vocal phrasing. Richard Hoffmans stampede-like momentum on bass slammed against Jon Lockies drum triggers made the past couple decades crash into itself. Limited to 500 copies with cover art/design by Bill Nace (Body/Head) and comes with a MP3 download card." - Dais.

Title: Terribly Well
Format: LP
Label: Dais
Country: USA
Price: $18.00
"The noise rock parade that defies definition, set out on a mission of pure volume worship that is the post-decade pilgrimage of NY-based Sightings. After eight instinctive albums, the Sightings guys show no mercy with endless annihilation of their newest material on Terribly Well. All parts destruction measured against their abrasive songwriting. Jagged, collapsing rhythm based mayhem, guitars that can be mistaken for a freight train being ripped for scrap metal, only to be held together with panic stricken bass patterns that keep their voice from the edge of insanity. An accessible album for the unacceptable; their finest record to date. Each song saws through the humanity, taking no hostages with this hectic industrial rock masterpiece. Edition of 500. Includes download code." -Dais.

Title: Through The Panama
Format: LP
Label: Ecstatic Peace
Country: USA
Price: $16.00
"Bass, drum and guitars meshed together with a synthetic twine envisioned in future think tanks. Literally the sound of human progress darkened with a profound fidelity so loud the dark matter of the universe quivers in a deadly orgasm. Guitar, bass and drums reconfigured for a new purpose. This is the bands sixth album and takes the notch so much higher than previous efforts in terms of songwriting and production. With Andrew W.K. as a producer, some of the caustic curtains that swathed past albums have been parted to reveal a coldly pulsing artificial heart. And the beat of this heart sounds off in an alien tongue of bass and drums. Guitars descend like unforgiving sheets of napalm from the smoldering skyline. Songs pop out of this miasma that tick off icy coolness with piano and vocal stylings. Indeed, hot and cool. To accentuate the difference this album has versus previous Sightings records, a Scott Walker cover is included. This is a rock album, but a rock for times coming, a sound of future days. Break the chains from the days of past, listen to Sightings and evolve. Limited edition beautiful high gloss gatefold LP." - Load.

Title: End Times
Format: CD
Label: Fusetron
Country: USA
Price: $12.00
"Fiery phoenix, four horsemen, or just plain ferocious, Sightings is back with another free rock H-Bomb. Comprised primarily of improvisations and recorded for the price of cassette tape, they leave no doubt western civilization is coming to an end....But seriously folks, this CD is companion to a vinyl release on the EN/OF label. EN/OF is a series of releases from the Bottrop-Boy record label. Every release contains a 12" record & an art edition and is limited to 100 copies. Sightings is paired with the German painter Daniel Richter who contributed an exclusive piece, "Das Schönste Ist Geschichte", an offset print,30x90 cm, with hand-painted elements. The LP features three tracks from "End Times" as well as another exclusive track. Richter was kind enough to lend artwork for the CD as well. "End Times" is 56 minutes of head-rinsing to take the millennarian fever to the next level."

Title: City Of Straw
Format: LP
Label: Jagjaguwar
Country: USA
Price: $14.00
"Crafting a lasting personal aesthetic in the midst of our ephemeral music culture is as rare as it is cause for celebration. With the release of City of Straw Brooklyns Sightings can be counted among the few contemporary bands who have forged a unique voice amongst the racket. Recorded over a number of months in 2009 at The Ocropolis (Oneidas Brooklyn, NY studio), the bands seventh studio album becomes the crucible from which their grandest and most coherent statement finally emerges. Sightings has never presented a particularly welcoming fa?e and their sui generis music has perhaps been passed over by less discerning listeners over the eleven years of their existence, but throughout this they have created a singular body of work appreciated and touted by the likes of Thurston Moore and Andrew WK. Sightings will insist (and we agree wholeheartedly) that at their core they are a rock band working within the context of pop song-craft. As bassist Richard Hoffman told us recently, "I think everyone in the band tries to remember the value of minimalism. Ultimately I think we try to write pop music, where theres no chaff and everything has a place." With a deep reach beyond the spirit of their influence from greats like Birthday Party, Dead C and Jesus Lizard, City of Straw finds Sightings working at the peak of their creative powers and is the perfect re-introduction to one of New Yorks most accomplished bands." - Jagjaguwar.

Title: Absolutes
Format: CD
Label: Load
Country: USA
Price: $13.50
"Eight songs that take apart rock music atom by atom so that you are left with a skeleton of sound. Sightings still use the tools of the trade -- guitar, bass and drums -- to take both rock and roll out of rock n roll. Reference weirdo deconstructo outfits like Einsturzende Neubauten, (mid-period) Black Dice, and Mainliner. This is the sound between the guitar strings, inside the bass amp, and within a drum stick. Yes, the truth. If punk rock used to mean fucking shit up and doing it your own way, this record erects a mile high middle finger facing the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame." - Load.

Title: Arrived in Gold
Format: CD
Label: Load
Country: USA
Price: $14.00
"Never before has a band managed to erase themselves. New York Citys Sightings have risen to the challenge of negation with this what the fuck of a record that rolls the twenty sided dice to dematerialize any trace of guitar, bass and drums into proton dust floating microns on top of the speaker cone. Minimal, yes. Previous records have gone from favorites at magazines as chocolate and peanut butter as the Wire and Terrorizer. Past records have been steaming knee burn befuddled by German technoid impulse and Yoko-damaged Beatles-busting intensity. A new icy coolness is added to the steaming soup this time allowing the sounds of mouth breathing to open up the record into a drug-fueled nightclub beast humping a bass bin as the sun rises." - Load.

"Total fried out rock from these NYC dirt merchants. Completely over-the-top trebled out production, with weekend pass outpatient rantings. Guitar, bass and drums - standard rock tools, but used to a decidedly more sinister effect. Fans of Mainliner and the Oblivians will understand, no-fi is the new Rufinol." - Load.

Title: Future Accidents
Format: LP
Label: Our Mouth
Country: USA
Price: $13.00
"Its kind of strange to think its been ten years since we first saw Sightings blowing minds and circuit breakers throughout the then fresh Brooklyn loft scene. Over the years, the band has taken that ball of blare they were initially known for and pulled it apart strand by strand and wire by wire to get to the transparent core of their sound while still retaining their disturbing qualities. Their past two full lengths, 2007s Through the Panama and 2010s City of Straw were obvious successful in this exploration, but Future Accidents really nails it in giving up the honest-to-god barebones goods. A rawer sprawl into the pregnant nowhere sound has yet to be waxed by these gents and ifn they ever do top this, Ill just utter the words I saw on the back of that pick-up truck the other day, HOT DAMN!" - Tony Rettman; Resident Blowhard, Truth or Consequences, New Mexico.

Title: Michigan Haters
Format: CD
Label: Psych-o-Path
Country: USA
Price: $12.00
"Rock is about danger, people. Sightings live shows sure as hell arent background music for a thrift-store fashion show. They bring the pain but good. Sightings second LP, Michigan Haters captures the sonic abandon that makes their performances such a liberating mindfuck. This Brooklyn by way of Motown trio pounds out an abrasive skronk that at first comes off as a pure denial. The primitivist, lurching rhythms, shuddery basslines and trebly guitar slashes seem conceived to prove that Sightings is more punk than you, and youre just not meant to understand. But then, wait a second. Youve been bruised, defeated, and suddenly youre floating in a river of psychedelic scree. Mark M. is yelping out some Lord of the Flies incantations. You cant pogo to it, but you can twitch all night. The violence of Michigan Haters flows in all directions; it destroys itself and the listener to reveal hidden conduits of sound, from the rubberized rumble of "Chili Dog" to the more bleached and angular "Guilty of Wrecking". Its a soundtrack for punching holes in walls and watching them bleed vital fluids. Sightings plays noise that hasnt been defused by aesthetic noodling; theyre not Sonic Youth and they dont want to be. Think DNA, Big Black, Keiji Haino if you have to think at all. Play it loud and watch the neighbors run for cover." - Psycho-o-Path. Remastered repress.

Title: Michigan Haters
Format: LP
Label: S-S
Country: USA
Price: $14.00
"Originally released on CD in 2002 by Psych-O-Path, Michigan Haters never got a proper vinyl release. So after years of Sightings and SS talking about doing a single, I finally said "Hey, Michigan Haters needs to be in vinyl. Let me do it!" The record being one of the bands favorites, they said "Certainly"...a combination of sounds which one reviewer likened to "a storm of knives." The overblown intensity was joined by abrasive twists and subtle unconventionalities. This is like listening to Terry Riley and Steve Reich though a Big Muff at 110 decibels. With Michigan Haters, Sightings started on what would become nearly a decade long reinvention of the rock & roll song." -S-S
