"The World was formed in 1982 when Allen Meek of VACUUM, VICTOR DIMISICH BAND and THE BILDERS, wanted to play his own songs and asked Charles Heywood to sing them. They were joined by Bridget Mulcahy on bass, Andrea Cocks on violin and ex-Bilder Malcolm Grant on drums. The band performed to enthusiastic audiences in Christchurch and Dunedin in 1983 and recorded some songs at Nightshift studios that were played frequently on local student radio. With an EP set to be released by Flying Nun the band suddenly split up and the tapes lay buried for thirty years. Poised uneasily between Velvets-inspired melancholy, Scottish guitar strumming and the more frenetic Talking Heads, The World didnt quite find its niche in the still forming NZ scene of the early Eighties. After the bands dissolution Charles went on the perform with ROY MONTGOMERY, Andrea became a part time member of SCORCHED EARTH POLICY while Malcolm went on to a successful career with THE BATS. Three decades later Unwucht presents six selections from the 1983 recording sessions remastered from original tapes to great sound quality. The album comes in an embossed sleeve designed by Allen Meek, who had done artwork for such legendary records as the Victor Dimisich Band 12" and several early Bilders EPs. Edition: 250 copies." -Unwucht.
