Two and a half hours of music spanning two discs, Every Time I Feel the Spirit is, in Ishmael's words, "a hidden spiritual landscape, and had I not lived this long life, this region would have remained undiscovered."

Like The Hands of Grace, these pieces range from citational irony to arresting sincerity, but here we have the sense of looking through the composer's sketchbook, developing the ideas as they are being traced out of the piano by the "spirit" that compels Ishmael to play. Despite its seeming solitude as a self-recorded solo piano set, this music is full of other people, from the other luminaries of American literature to whom many of the pieces are dedicated, to the intimate connections of Reed's family, including his wife Carla, his children, and his niece Marquel, whose image graces the cover.

No other album so gracefully articulates the spirit of Reading Group. Electroacoustic abstraction, minimalist drones, and grimy ambience. Vasopressin's second installment of their dedicated series bringing Nurse With Wound's contemporary output to vinyl -- and it is, if anything, even more extraordinary than what came before. On the Edge of the Outside gathers three works previously issued as 3" CDs alongside literary editions published by the French imprint Lenka Lente, each "conceived in intimate response to literary texts -- yet entirely self-sufficient as autonomous sonic experiences": "Kafka's Parachute" (2017), composed in dialogue with Franz Kafka's "Rapport à une Académie"; "On the Edge of the Outside" (2020), drawn from Tristan Tzara's "Minuits pour Géants"; and "We Are the Dead Men" (2025), accompanying Xavier Forneret's "Le Diamant de l'Herb". To these is added "None and a Star Stand (Untitled Lament)", a piece whose origins remain close to the same Lenka lente orbit -- appearing here, as does the entire collection, in its vinyl debut. Across two sides, the record maps a vast and quietly staggering emotional and sonic terrain. "Kafka's Parachute" opens proceedings with howling recitations and a knotted palette of electroacoustic abstraction, channeling something close to concrete poetry in its most visceral, unsettling form. The second side then opens with "None And A Star Stand" -- a breath of grimy, luminous release -- eleven minutes of shifting textures that feel restless and alive without ever resolving into event, before "We Are The Dead Men" descends deeper still, unfurling at glacial pace through overlapping drones and harmonics of rare, disquieting beauty. The closing title track moves from ripping feedback through swirling resonances and sparse piano tones before dissolving back into abrasion, completing a journey that feels as much literary as sonic. Featuring Steven Stapleton alongside collaborators Colin Potter , Andrew Liles , Matt Waldron , James Worse , and Quentin Rollet , On the Edge of the Outside stands as proof that after nearly five decades, Nurse With Wound remains one of the few forces in music genuinely capable of making the world sound like somewhere you have never been before. Offering a rare glimpse of liberated creative spirit operating behind the Iron Curtain, this engrossing double-LP provides an unprecedented immersion into the work of one of the most celebrated composers from Uzbekistan, often described as the " Ennio Morricone of Central Asia". Comprising a startling range of electronic and electroacoustic experiments, evocative chamber works and orchestral works, and more discrete instrumental efforts -- all created to accompany moving image -- totaling an incredible 82 pieces in total, this remarkable sonic journey into Vildanov's inner world and towering talents. Beginning in 1964, when he was first asked by the director, Elyor Ishmuhamedov , to compose the music for one of his films, Vildanov became "obsessed with making music for cinema" and remained deeply connected to the field for the rest of his life -- collaborating with prominent filmmakers, including Eldor Urazbaev , Ali Khamraev , and Shukhrat Abbasov . It is Vildanov's sonic contributions to film, around which Kino Variants 1967-1986 narrows its focus, illuminating the composer's striking range and diverse touchstones. The collection begins with 29 "Abstract Variations" of various durations, rendered on a range of instruments -- synthesizer, harp, harpsichord, and timpani, among numerous others -- in solo and multi-instrumental combinations, utilizing both purely acoustic and electroacoustic approaches. The second side of the collection offers an immersion into Vildanov's "Orchestral Variations", which move between constrained and encompassing scales of instrumental combination. Retaining a strong sense of cohesive vision within their diversity, Vildanov elegantly moves between the use of avant-garde tonal dissonance and lush melodic sensibilities. The second LP of Kino Variants 1967-1986 is dedicated to two thematic groupings, "Rubab Variations" and "Titles Variations". The first stands among the most culturally revealing bodies of work in the collection; centering the focus upon Vildanov's compositions for the rubab, a lute-like stringed instrument played in parts of Central and South Asia. "Titles Variations", the collection's fourth and final side, comprises 19 pieces that expand and further illuminate the range of Vildanov's musical explorations, the majority of which date from the final decade of the composer's life. Elegantly performed and recorded by Reinier Van Houdt , this timeless composition from 1950-56 anticipates Minimalist by a decade as well as Concetual and Sytems-Based-Composition while intersecting the perspectives that would soon be developed by Fluxus , the group Chiari would join in 1962. Giuseppe Chiari's Intervalli for piano still retain the charm of a discovery, even when considered in the context of their historical perspective. Composed within a time frame that extends throughout the entire first half of the 1950s, they are striking for the precocity of their compositional conception based on a radical reduction of musical parameters on mathematical and rational grounds. One might also be surprised to discover that Chiari's early compositions follow such a rigorous logical approach in the organization of musical material, particularly in light of the subsequent direction his work took, which established him, within the Neo-Avant-Garde, as the most resolute and determined exponent of gestural music -- a genre thus free from any dogma or structural constraints. In Intervalli Chiari focuses on the idea of a rational "arrangement" of the sequence of sounds and/or their simultaneity through a more or less controlled system of repetitions of variants or invariants, defined by their interval features and duration. The systematic processes of limiting and repeating musical parameters are elements that, by analogy, later came to the fore with the birth of musical minimalism. It would, however, be a stretch to regard Chiari's Intervalli as a driving force that will have a direct impact on the emergence and establishment of this current. Whilst minimal music employs the systematic reduction of parameters and their repetition to guide unidirectional development as a gradual process, Chiari's Intervalli move towards an opposing concept that "explores the relationships between sounds without any temporal hierarchy" in order to achieve "music that strips succession of its discursive power." A clear indication of an objective, almost atomistic conception of sound, aimed at deconstructing its syntactic homologation. Hence its conceptual relevance, which cannot be equated with the canonical currents of minimalism: a nuance that would subsequently predispose Chiari to an informal openness towards the performative gesture. The Intervalli cycle thus marked Chiari's first point of arrival, but also a point of no return -- save for the final decade of his creative career, when a still surprising new recourse to musical writing was mediated precisely by a gestural instinctiveness. This first edition of complete Intervalli also includes liner notes by Gabriele Bonomo as well as the reproduction of some of the pages from the original score."

"In late September and early October 1969, John Tchicai toured throughout Denmark with a special quintet. The international band was a notable one, bringing together musicians from Denmark and Holland whose conceptual differences were as important as the musical values they held in common. Tchicai and two of his closest Danish collaborators -- trumpeter Hugh Steinmetz and guitarist Pierre Dørge -- embraced an international perspective that incorporated far flung influences from African music, contemporary classical, and jazz into a cool, yet playful and joyous, modernity. In this quintet they worked with two pillars of the Dutch Instant Composer's Pool, pianist Misha Mengelberg and Han Bennink . Ironic and subversive, they displayed a willingness, you might even say an eagerness, to disrupt accepted conventions of any kind. The music on this LP, recorded on October 9, 1969, at Danish Radio Studio 11 in Copenhagen, consists of compositions they'd played on the recently concluded tour plus a group improvisation. Of course, Tchicai's international collaborations extended beyond neighboring Holland. He was a most cosmopolitan musician, performing and recording with musicians in the U.S., Asia, Africa, and Europe. Perhaps surprisingly, one of his most sympathetic European partners was German bassist Peter Kowald . Tchicai did share some musical affinities with the German improvising scene. As Kowald and his compatriots, such as Peter Brötzmann and Alexander von Schlippenbach , took inspiration from the cathartic energy and the collective improvisation of free jazz, especially Albert Ayler . His appearance on John Coltrane 's Ascension , would have also earned him respect among the hard-blowing Germans. Tchicai and Kowald mutual openness to the sounds of other cultures and free improvisation made them quite compatible, so it's something of a shock that this is the only documentation of their work together. The two improvisors found themselves in Japan in 1983, when they recorded the astonishing duet contained on the second side of this LP. Their improvisation in Kyoto is an amazingly resourceful conversation a kind of improvisation which remains far from "world music," and with new textures expanding their musical vocabularies and allowing them to develop new ideas; qualities that allowed Tchicai to flourish in so many different settings. That this was to be the sole concert by Tchicai -- of New York Contemporary Five , New York Art Quartet , Coltrane 's Ascension fame -- was stupefyingly ridiculous so Anthony Barnett set about trying to organize a London concert. He traipsed the capital in search of an available venue without luck until, with no thought of a positive outcome, he entered Wigmore Hall. To his astonishment, with few questions asked, they said yes. Following that, there was the matter of work permits. Barnett visited the relevant office and they too said yes, probably because of the involvement of The Royal Danish Embassy and the Danish Cultural Ministry with the Manchester concert. Danmarks Radio asked the BBC to record the concert on its behalf. The arrangement was that Barnett would receive a small fee and a complete set of the tapes. Afterwards, it turned out that the BBC had edited the tapes down to what it sent to Danmarks Radio, as broadcast and now heard here for the first time since. Sadly, and quite true to form, the BBC had wiped the rest. And it was a struggle for Anthony Barnett to get back the tape that did remain. Possibly it shows how difficult things can be when one acts independently. Through his Xerxes label, he developed a style that is both extreme and meticulously constructed, balancing ferocity and precision with remarkable control. Even at its most chaotic, every sonic eruption feels carefully placed. Originally released on cassette in 1994, The Human Race Was Restored To Life Repeatedly captures a pivotal stage in Yoshida's artistic development. At this point, he was still refining his unique musical language. The album is raw, unstable, and charged with experimental energy, yet it already reveals the defining characteristics of his later work. These recordings reflect a deeply physical, hands-on approach to sound creation. Worn electronics, manipulated tapes, feedback, and metallic objects become sonic material, each noise bent, reshaped, and reassembled into new forms. It is harsh noise in a state of constant transformation, still free from rigid conventions. The album moves through continuous walls of distortion and corrosive frequencies. Beneath its abrasive surface lies a wealth of detail, pulse, and texture, where chaos is organized into shifting, layered structures. It is precisely this balance between violence and composition that defines Yoshida's work. This new vinyl edition, remastered by Lasse Marhaug , marks the first time the album appears on vinyl, bringing out every nuance of the original recording. The sound retains its rawness while gaining depth, clarity, and spatial presence. Today, the album stands as a landmark of harsh noise history, a vital work that transforms sonic destruction into musical architecture. Recorded at F23 Studio Tokyo, January 16-29 1994. He moved away from the tape collages and improvised circuitry of his earlier years. In their place arose monumental sound structures, dense and meticulously sculpted. Harsh noise, tribal rhythms, and corrosive textures merged into a single, overwhelming sonic body. Yoshinotsune emerged during this especially fertile period and stands as one of Masami Akita 's most evocative works. The album weaves together historical, mythological, and personal references, drawing inspiration from the figure of Minamoto no Yoshitsune . From the outset, bird calls, radio interference, and electronic signals create an enigmatic atmosphere. The result is an unsettling soundscape suspended between nature and technology. Throughout the album, the sound continually transforms, alternating between ominous beats, unearthly moans, and ritualistic pulses. These elements evoke tribal rhythms filtered through circuitry and digital distortion. The music drives forward with relentless force while maintaining a constant tension between motion and stillness. Rather than simply overwhelming, it invites the listener to become immersed in its intricate details. This new double-vinyl edition, mastered by Lasse Marhaug and limited to just 199 copies, greatly expands the original experience. The three tracks from the CD are spread across four sides, with the addition of two previously unreleased pieces. This format highlights the depth of the low end, the nuances of the digital processing, and even the acoustic guitar passages. As a result, the work gains a broader, more tactile, and more detailed physical presence. What makes Yoshinotsune so compelling is its perfect balance between technical precision and creative instinct. Though meticulously constructed, its structures retain a raw and immediate vitality. It documents the early vision of Solmania and the singular sonic approach of Masahiko Ohno . For years, it remained a cult artifact among collectors and underground enthusiasts. This vinyl edition renews its impact, feeling more like a rebirth than a simple reissue. Solmania was far more than a band; it was Masahiko Ohno's personal sound laboratory. At the heart of the album are his self-built guitars, transformed into extraordinary sound-generating machines. Their tones scrape, roar, and vibrate with an almost organic intensity. Alongside these, Ohno also employs tape, radio, turntable, and voice -- expanding the palette into a raw, multi-source field of sound, with drums and keyboard performed by Tomioka Akira . The album constructs noise as a complex, layered architecture. Distortion, feedback, metallic harmonics, and electrical abrasion intertwine into dense, evolving structures. Despite its industrial harshness, the sound remains deeply human. Every vibration carries the mark of touch, pressure, and spontaneous improvisation. Here, noise is not simply about volume or aggression, but about exploring texture, repetition, and transformation. The music exists in a thrilling balance between construction and controlled collapse. Its hypnotic passages take on an almost ritualistic, sculptural quality. Each moment seems poised to mutate into something new. The vinyl format fully reveals the richness of this work. Low-end resonance, harmonic detail, and the interplay between feedback and silence emerge with renewed clarity. Cherry had performed and recorded there with Archie Shepp in 1963, toured with Albert Ayler in the autumn of 1964, and would go on to have a residency at the hip Cafe Montmartre in 1966. These four pieces show Don Cherry in the midst of his transformation from pivotal sideman in New York's avant-garde jazz scene to leader of his own groups and world traveler. His endless curiosity, free-thinking openness to different cultures, and rejection of musical boundaries paved the way for future creators in jazz, world music, and beyond. "Hip as hell" - The Wire "It captures a really interesting period in his career... By 2023, the turbines had stopped. The plant was empty, silent -- a cathedral to obsolete energy with perfect acoustics and nothing left to say. Christian Marclay saw an instrument. For the inaugural Biennale Son in 2023, the artist who made his name destroying vinyl in 1980s New York turned the entire hydroelectric system into a playable object. The concept: open a manhole 4.5 kilometers uphill, drop something in, wait for sound to travel through the mountain. Steel bearings didn't work -- too heavy, wrong frequency. So Marclay used golf and tennis balls donated by local clubs. The Valais School of Art rigged the turbine hall with microphones. Then the balls dropped. Seconds of silence. Then: tumbling, bouncing, accelerating through kilometers of concrete. Not one ball but many, building into something between avalanche and applause as they hit the hall below. Marclay directed remotely, releasing volleys like a percussionist striking a drum the size of a small town. The pipe amplified everything -- pure mountain reverb, no processing, just 1934 engineering singing its swan song. The recording, mixed with Alain Renaud , is the Biennale Son's first vinyl release. Side A features fifteen minutes of cascading spheres, industrial archaeology as living sound. Side B features an engraved portrait of Marclay. Unplayable. The performance happened once. The pipe spoke. That's enough. This is quintessential Marclay -- the artist who built the Phonoguitar (1983), scattered records to be crushed underfoot ( Footsteps , 1989), won Venice's Golden Lion with The Clock (2011), collaborated with Sonic Youth and John Zorn , and has spent his career proving that everything is already an instrument. Mountains. Vinyl. Film. Time itself. You just need to know where to listen -- or where to drop the ball. Always the same question: what music do objects make when you know how to listen? Here, the answer is gravity plus concrete plus expired sporting goods equals something you've never heard before. Conduite forcée means "penstock" but translates as "forced conduct" -- water compelled through pipe, sound through space, music from infrastructure. Limited edition. One pressing. No digital. Just the grooves and the ghost of Switzerland's hydroelectric past, pressed into vinyl like water in a sealed pipe. Mountains as instruments. Golf balls as notes. Ça c'est le Blues was originally released in 1984 and marks nothing less than a milestone in F.S.K.'s already impressive discography. While numerous bands from the West German underground of the early 1980s, following the Summer of Pop of 1982 and the associated breakthrough of the Neue Deutsche Welle, either moved toward the mainstream or began singing in English, Justin Hoffmann , Thomas Meinecke , Michaela Melián , and Wilfried Petzi took a different path. The songs became more elaborate, the production -- influenced by bands like Gang of Four and Dexys Midnight Runners -- more opulent, and the instrumentation now included wind instruments for the first time, which have since become an integral part of F.S.K.'s sound. At the same time, the Munich-based band's music-historically motivated focus was directed more toward the US than was typical of the bands in the West German scene of that era. To their signature blend of post-punk and experimental music, as already evident on Stürmer , they now incorporated funk (on the opener "Faire Le Chicken") and jazz (on the heartbreaking cover version of "My Funny Valentine"). From then on, this "transatlantic feedback" was an essential component of F.S.K.'s musical practice. The discursive twists and turns, the incorporation of references, and the insistence on German lyrics would influence bands in the coming decades, not just those of the "Hamburg School." At the same time, the album features legendary hits by Freiwillige Selbstkontrolle which are still played at every concert to this day. Here is an unreleased 1974 studio album with another book of classics intertwined within, and if you've been following Tommy's hypnotic trajectory with Mike Rep, True Believers , and the Harrisburg Players over the years, it's another long-awaited reward for your faith in this underground system you're invested in. Pure Ohio Gold as they say, and as a recently unearthed recording, it is presented it for the first time anywhere, solidifying Tommy Jay's pillar-like influence in the sick and twisted Harrisburg underground. Forever underrated, Tommy shines hard here for the singer-songwriter era, keeping that creeping 'punk edge' just under the surface for extra tension, even in 1974. In another world Tommy Jay would be as well-known as Skip Spence or Ron House , but his star still rises, albeit slowly and surely. That's not totally wrong: When their guitars sawed noise, rhythms lurched heavy and words came in howls, listening could be a harrowing experience, as suffocating as any of their apocalyptic No Wave counterparts. But the quartet's work was also energetic, joyful and buoyantly melodic. After all, they started by jamming on tunes by the Velvet Underground , pretty much the ur-band when it comes to sounding both dark and bright. As much as Mars stretched and remade that model into new wiry shapes, the spark of brightness sustained. It's easy to hear when listening to this set recorded in the summer of 1977 at a series of shows put on by the late Terry Ork at the Village Gate, a renowned jazz club in Greenwich Village. All eight songs have an urgent bounce, which is clearest in the caffeinated energy of the vocals, usually delivered in the pungent wail of either Sumner Crane or Connie Burg . Mark Cunningham 's rubbery bass and the chopping guitars of Crane and Burg shoot flares as if they were running a fireworks display. Add Nancy Arlen 's nonstop drumming -- roughly echoing Mo Tucker if she had extra limbs and Live at the Village Gate becomes a dizzying rush of tunes that zooms by in a taut 24 minutes. Though Mars hadn't even recorded at this point, they were already what Burg called 'like a machine in a way -- a really out of control machine.' Most of these songs were honed when the band was called China, a name they changed a few months before this gig after discovering other, potentially litigious groups bearing that moniker. In fact these songs were so far along that when Mars did start recording, only '3E' would survive, none of the other seven would ever see the dank light of a studio." -- Marc Masters"

""Animo Computer is animator Mizuhiro's solo project. The story of Mar-Vista begins in northern France, in Lille, in the early 1970s, with the meeting of two music enthusiasts: Claude Cuvelier and Jean Skowron . They connected through Claude's brother. At that time, Jean was already standing out at blues concerts for his singular sonic approach: he placed microphones inside suitcases that he struck to produce raw, primitive sounds -- an experimental process that immediately impressed Claude. A shared vision quickly took shape: to create repetitive, atmospheric music, freed from traditional formats. In 1973, they gave birth to Mar-Vista, with the desire to compose long, immersive works, sometimes built around a single chord, in the spirit of Balinese music. The duo gradually equipped themselves: a Mini Korg in 1972, a Yamaha synthesizer, a Farfisa organ, and even a drum machine discovered by chance during a television appearance by Henri Salvador . The home studio became their creative sanctuary. Jean worked on a 4-track Teac tape recorder, Claude on a Philips model. Each freely composed their own side of the future album, while collaborating on each other's ideas. Side A, led by Jean, is more rooted in the progressive electronic music of the time, influenced by Heldon, Amon Düül , and Soft Machine . Side B, bearing more of Claude's imprint and his influences (Terry Riley, La Monte Young ), is far more experimental and consists of a 22-minute trippy instrumental piece. Despite its confidential release at the time, the album is now considered one of the most remarkable works of the genre ever released in France. A second album project inspired by the universe of H. P. Lovecraft was in progress, but family responsibilities slowed this creative momentum. The second vinyl of this reissue is composed of unreleased tracks, featuring improvised pieces without synthesizers, recorded live in August 1973 on a hill near Valence, in the garden of friends (Hervé and Martine). Psychedelic electronic music, experimental, and acid folk -- a collector's grail for fans of Klaus Schulze , Terry Riley , Neu , Heldon , and Silver Apples . Pianist, composer and bandleader Cecil Taylor's capacious and audacious originality reshaped twentieth-century music. In an astounding act of artistic forbearance spanning sixty years of performing and recording, Taylor didn't win over so much as wear down the jazz establishment through the force and brilliant execution of his ideas. His methodologies and language, if studied at all, remain unassimilated by the twenty-first century jazz mainstream and its institutions. Lincoln Center turned the house lights on during Taylor's first performance there (2007), a stark reminder that in spite of Guggenheim and MacArthur Fellowships and increased respect among some of his tradition-minded peers, the shock of his music had not diminished and he was still an outlier, if not an outlaw, presence. Live at the KiMo Theater Albuquerque 1979 captures Taylor on November 20, 1979, during a rare tour of the American West with a then newly reconstituted quintet formation of his Unit. An ensemble in regular flux from the mid-1970s onward, only two members of Taylor's 1978 Unit, violinist Ramsey Ameen (1945-2019) and alto saxophonist Jimmy Lyons (1931-1986) -- the bel canto voice of every Cecil Taylor band since 1961-- made the trip with Taylor to Albuquerque. Re-entering the fold on bass and cello after a decade-long absence was prime mover extraordinaire Alan Silva (1939-), with drummer Jerome Cooper (1946-2015) making his Cecil Taylor Unit performance debut. Each historical incarnation of the Cecil Taylor Unit emphasized the musicians' freedom to infuse the architectures of Taylor's music with their own personalities. Together with the Maestro in Albuquerque, this novel formation played a concert as unique and fascinating as its line-up and instrumentation suggests, with dynamics, textures and interactions that are quite different from the often in-the-red, sometimes gladiatorial 1978 Taylor bands. The addition of Sunny Murray to this ensemble in February 1980 for the recording of It Is In The Brewing Luminous (HatHut) would transform the music yet again. KUNM and New Mexico Symphony recording engineer Mike Wolff created a custom bandshell for the ensemble on the stage of the historic KiMo Theater, utilizing direct and indirect symphonic miking to capture the music for NPR's Jazz Alive program. Jazz Alive never broadcast the recording, and the tapes lay dormant for 40 years, until Tom Guralnick -- producer of the 1979 concert and director of the Outpost Performance Space (Albuquerque) -- brought the recording to the attention of Black Editions Archive. Released in direct cooperation with Guralnick, with the permission of the musicians of the 1979 Cecil Taylor Unit and their heirs, Live at the KiMo Theater Albuquerque 1979 is presented in a x2LP heavy tip-on gatefold jacket featuring ink pigment and metallic foil stamping as well as an illuminating and historically detailed 12-page listening guide by Taylor scholar Ben Young . Kevin Gray at Cohearent Audio cut the lacquers and Fidelity Record Pressing struck the audiophile-quality vinyl. This stellar production chain in combination with Wolff's symphonic recording approach has resulted in the most dynamic and natural sounding live recording in Cecil Taylor's discography. Listening to the music of Cecil Taylor is perhaps an even more radical act in 2026 than at any other time in the last half century. But Sulfur isn't simply a lost psych-rock record being dragged out of the vault because somebody noticed that old copies are expensive. There is something considerably more uncomfortable lurking beneath its surface and eight years after its original release Sulfur is every bit as relevant as it was in 2018. Firefriend have always understood psychedelia as more than a decorative filter to throw over a guitar. They turn up the amplifiers and let the noise do some of the talking. This is psychedelic music with its eyes open. Coming out of São Paulo, Firefriend make music that feels like it has been dragged through the city after midnight with psych rock, shoegaze, noise, darkwave and electronics all feeding into one another until the distinctions start to become meaningless. There are riffs, grooves and melodies, but also a constant sense of pressure, something is happening outside the room, something is burning, and pretending otherwise isn't really an option. The titles don't exactly offer much reassurance. Sulfur is full of little collisions between the cosmic and the catastrophic, outer space and environmental collapse, psychedelic escape and political reality. And that is perhaps where Firefriend's music really hits. There is a temptation with psychedelic music to imagine that you're escaping the world. Firefriend seem more interested in staring at the world until it starts to dissolve. The guitars smear into the horizon. The electronics buzz like malfunctioning infrastructure. The rhythm section keeps the machinery moving. Voices emerge from the fog like transmissions from a planet that may already have received its final warning. And yet there is beauty in it. Because resistance doesn't necessarily have to sound like marching drums and shouted slogans. Sometimes it sounds like a band plugging in, turning everything up, and refusing to make the apocalypse sound comfortable. Now Cardinal Fuzz (UK) and Feeding Tube Records (USA) are giving Sulfur another trip around the sun, finally bringing on vinyl."

"First copies on white vinyl. " High Cube is the beat-focused brainchild of Brian Foote ( Peak Oil, Leech ) and Paul Dickow ( Strategy, Community Library ), two legends of the US experimental underground. After some 30-odd years of making music separately and together, Foote and Dickow are collaborating in earnest for the first time as a duo. For this debut the pair enforced a simple, stringent set of rules: five instruments, a one-hour timer, and a total ban on overthinking. The result is the sound of two old friends unplugging the usual levers and letting the 'accident' of their chemistry take the wheel. It is drier, sparser, and decidedly 'chunky' -- a fictional band stepping into a suit to drive around for a while. It is neither dance nor chill-out, but a moody, complex trajectory defined not by the gear used to make it but by the narrative mood it compels. 'Volcano Snail' starts things off in a disheveled shuffle, locking into gear with blurred and bubbling effluence. The shimmering dimness is lit low, with a woozy gait that recalls the headiest highs and luminescent lows of Jan Jelinek . 'Underwater Welder' is a foggy, neon-lit cruise of skittering low-ends suspended in a permanent fall of color, while 'A Dragon's Treasure is its Soul' offers blown-apart, low-end city pop fragmented into an array of rhythmic detritus. Chordal textures hover in the air as a percussive loop takes its beguiling and frolicking shape. B-side opener 'Yonaguni' shapeshifts in real time, drifting with the grace of a glacier before bobbing in a frigid pool of vibrating clatter, static, and synth stabs. 'Ofid+wor' offers a tried and true blitz of braindance, nodding to an endless list of 20th and 21st-century electronic body music. Buoyant closer 'Mother of Thousands' holds a gravity-defying tenderness, pirouetting on a breeze with the elegance of effervescent longing. The six extended tracks of High Cube are tethered to nothing but the ether -- a giant sonic leap of peripheral absurdity from two artists with a lifetime of shared rhythm.""

"2026 restock, reduced price. " The Syd Barrett of the avant-jazz scene " British jazz composer, pianist, songwriter, Mike Taylor died tragically young, leaving just two albums as well as co-writes with Ginger Baker for Cream 's Wheels Of Fire album to his name. In the late 1980s, the prolific multi-instrumentalist -- who had collaborated with artists such as Miles Davis , Herbie Hancock , and Quincy Jones -- assembled the supergroup Milky Way for a recording project. The band's lineup was a veritable who's who of jazz-rock and fusion, featuring three-time Grammy Award winner Lenny White of Chick Corea 's Return to Forever ; bassist Victor Bailey of Weather Report ; guitarist Ray Gomez , known for his work with the Joachim Kühn Band ; trumpeter Randy Brecker of the Brecker Brothers , who had also performed with Blood, Sweat & Tears ; and vocalist Nicki Richards , whose credits include Stevie Wonder , Mary J. Blige , and Tina Turner . What more could a devoted fan ask for? In 1989, legendary German concert promoter and music entrepreneur Fritz Rau signed Milky Way and released the group's self-titled album on his Frankfurt-based label, L+R Records. In the United States, the album was issued by the California-based label Optimism, which was also home to fusion artists such as Stanley Clarke and Alphonse Mouzon . For years, Milky Way has been unavailable on both CD and vinyl, making it a highly sought-after collector's item among fusion enthusiasts. They had evolved into a heavy psychedelic rock group, with no metaphors and no compromises. Anarchists in a country that could barely utter the word without trembling. It was the final years of the 1960s. Their influences came from Iron Butterfly , Black Sabbath , Blue Cheer , Vanilla Fudge , and others. At times they also sounded like MC5 , the Detroit band they already knew through their records and with whom they shared an anarchist and anti-establishment spirit. Through their original music, they challenged a scene crowded with cover bands. They recorded five self-produced EPs, sold exclusively at their live performances, passed from hand to hand as if each record were a clandestine act. While MC5 stirred the streets of Detroit alongside the White Panthers , Antorcha was doing much the same in a Mexico that preferred to look the other way. The band operated as a cooperative: agreements were reached collectively, and income was shared equally. Antorcha became a forgotten band in their own country, overlooked even by Mexican rock experts. Werner "Zappi" Diermaier has spent decades channeling spontaneity into a unique rhythmic language; a direct, instinctive and vital beat born from the creative freedom which has long defined the spirit of Faust. This same intuitive approach is at the heart of his new LP Gugaruz , created in collaboration with Dirk Dresselhaus ( Schneider TM ) and Elke Drapatz , a record which grew organically from shared experiences, chance encounters and the energy of collective interaction. The project's unlikely starting point came in a Vietnamese restaurant, when Diermaier pointed to a piece of pickled baby corn and exclaimed "Gugaruz", an Austrian dialect word for maize. That small moment triggered a chain reaction of ideas that would eventually shape the album's imagery, titles and sound world. Popcorn cooking in a kitchen both became the source material for field recordings used on the opening track and inspired the cover artwork, establishing a process in which everyday sounds and environments became integral musical elements. Throughout the album, Diermaier's percussion serves as both foundation and driving force. His playing is entirely intuitive, developed in real time through improvisation and close interaction with the other musicians. Initial sessions as a trio, with Elke Drapatz operating the drum effects and trigger module and Dirk Dresselhaus on bass, were recorded in the latter's ZONE studio in Berlin over a day and a half, before Uwe Bastiansen and Ilpo Väisänen added overdubs in Hamburg and Kuopio, Finland. Shaped by the dialogue between Diermaier's intuitive rhythmic approach, the interplay between Dresselhaus, Drapatz, Bastiansen and Väisänen and the use of the studio as an instrument, the album captures inspiration at its source, preserving the immediacy, energy and unpredictability of the moment in which it was created."
